This place was deserted when I went in for lunch, and after eating here, I know why. Service was so...weird. The man serving was not friendly at all and he basically just stared at me, not saying anything. Eventually he did speak though, asking me where I was "from." I said Maryland, and apparently that wasn't what he was looking for, because then he asked my PARENTS are from...and when I answered he just walked away again. ??????? Those were literally the only words he spoke to me the whole time I was there. The worst part was definitely the sanitation. There was a squished dead fly on my table, and I found multiple white hairs in my food. I pointed it out and all my server did was bring out a scraping tool and scrape the dead fly off the table... As for the food, I got the chicken tikka masala lunch special and it was so OILY. If I tilted the dish, SO much oil collected in a corner. I understand that it's necessary to cook the dish, but I've never seen so much oil in my food at any other Indian restaurant I've been at. And the samosa was hard as a rock. Taj has been a staple in my diet since it opened. I really love the fact that serve late. After a healthy yoga class late in the city, it's great to come here. BYOB. The place is small but inviting with beautiful pictures on the wall. TKK has really improved it's service since the last time I ate in the restaurant. The waiter was concerned that we liked the food and he made sure we had enough water. I got the veggie thali combo which I think they call something else like diner option 4. I usually get one spicy curry and one non spicy, such as the veggie vindaloo and veggie korma. If you eat meat, try vindaloo for spice and korma for creamy almond flavors. The vindaloo can be with anything but I definately think meat choice with korma should be lamb. Breads to use like a scoop instead of a fork are very good here. I love the Puri (which is included in a thali meal) and butter paratha. Nan is always delish as well. My boy friend swears by the cheese nan. He will order Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka appitiser, (Paneer Tikka is also a fav of mine), Sheik Kabab, and Chicken Vindaloo. Make sure you ask for 3 chutneys per main course when your get delivery or you may have to fight over the sauce you like! :) Remember to ask for no utensils and save the planet man! I am honestly shocked this is so low on the recommended list and not with 5 stars! This indian food is BOMB and so reasonably priced. They always complete your order so quick and deliver the best foods. They have a special with an entree, appetizer, and naan. (with rice) how can you beat that?! I just moved down the street from here and decided I wanted to try the food on my way home yesterday. The restaurant was empty when I got there, and (I'm assuming) the owner took care of me. The restaurant itself is nice and has nice silverware and plates. It was quiet inside since no one was dining in. The owner was very sweet! He did a great job taking my order, checking up, and gave me a free appetizer. I ordered a beef keema curry and garlic naan. I'm not familiar with Indian food, but I absolutely loved it!! It was perfectly spiced and a touch on the sweet side (which I love). The garlic naan was fluffy and flavorful. There's garlic chips on the top that add crunch. I'll definitely be back here again!! I was surprised to see seamless saying that this particular restaurent was going to deliver to queens all the way from astoria. So i wanted to make sure and called the restaurent. The guy who answerd the phone was super rude and when i asked him that i saw them on seamless and wanted to make sure that of they deliver his exact words were " motherfucker this is america. Saw the place walking past, decided to check it out. Not inviting enough for a sit down so ordered a take-away. Chicken Bhindi, mixed vegetable curry and naan. The standard of cleanliness didn't inspire much confidence and I was hoping the food would be good. On opening the package, it looked real bad. Oil floating, could not make out if the box contained vegetable or chicken, poor masala and the naan seemed to be out of a packing. There were two Indian restaurants near me and I decided to go with King taj because it had the same star reviews as the other one on Seamless. I should have checked Yelp first but I was in a rush. So the order got to me fairly quickly and the prices of the food were reasonable. So I sat down and opened up my order. I ordered a Chana masala, garlic naan, and a chicken samosa... Let me start with the samosa. It was burned, very oily and greasy, the chicken was yellow and looked like dark ground beef, and tasted like pure vegetable oil burned... So I open the naan and it is thicker than a pizza crust, very gooey, and burned. It was the texture of rubber and tasted fully microwaved. The Chana masala was a complete disaster. The chickpeas were overcooked and mushed... The sauce was like ketchup and still doesn't come off my fingers after I washed my hands multiple times. I never thought Indian food can be done so bad... I love indian food; I consider it to be one of my favorite cuisines; and I can say: this place does it right. At least in their vindaloo, saag, samosas, etc. - everything I've tried has been spot on. Third, the value: specifically, the value of their dinner specials. Don't rip off customers especially on matters that amount to little cost for your business , a little service goes a long way, meanwhile 1 chutney doesn't go very far.... (do a cost benefit analysis pleeeaaase) I also called today question why my mixed veggie bhaji was only about 2/3 full and was told they intend to give only 8oz - that's a tiny amount for the cost and should be posted in interest of transparency on the Grubhub menu so customers know. If it looks the place and I can smell it from outside we might be dealing with good Indian. Well I found myself hungry that night and took and placed a delivery order via seamless. I ordered the Lamb Taj Karahi. Never heard of it before but I said screw it, I am going different. Order came quickly in under the estimated time. The food was great, well spiced but not overdone. The lamb was cooked perfectly and was tender. The rice was standard fair and everything arrived hot. Small nitpick - no plastic utensils or napkins. I ordered to a bar and thankfully they had some or that would have been very aggravating. Total price via seamless with tax and tip was $16. Most people who tell you they love Indian food in these areas probs order Chicken Tikka and can't take spice. Queens is pretty good but that being said, this Brooklyn spot is my go-to for really good Indian food that tastes somewhat similar to what I grew up eating. The portions are large, the spice level is on point, and everything I've had has been good. It's not the best thing ever but the most solid I've found in the city so far. The people are all really nice and they do have pretty fantastic samosas. Don't bother in Manhattan, but if you're looking for Indian food in Brooklyn, this is the spot. read more

This was my Seamless review for this restaurant, but because the food was so good I'm repeating it here. This is actually one of the best Indian deliveries I have ever had. I have never been in the physical restaurant. This was really quite good. I was surprised. The restaurant is in Brooklyn and I'm in Lower Manhattan. Delivery came in about 45 minutes and I got a call with the ETA from the deliveryman. The food was very well spiced, very large portions. I had Keema, which was excellent. I had Shrimp with Poori and Shrimp Korma. There were huge fresh shrimps, not the usual tiny frozen ones. It was all delicious. The poori was still hot, and everything was well wrapped. This was one of the better Indian deliveries I have had on Seamless. Gigantic portion of chicken. I asked for extra raw onion and chili and got a lot of it wrapped well. I really have no complaints about this food. The delivery charge of $5 and the tax and tip added about 25% to the bill, but that is to be expected. I liked this food. My kids liked it, and there was plenty left over for tomorrow. As an Indian food aficionado, I highly recommend. I will order again. Quite tasty and well spiced, ample portions, and fast delivery. I ordered a $12.95 lamb dinner (Sheek Kabab -- cooked in a clay oven) from Taj Kabob, but instead I got Tikhi Ghost Sheek -- lamb on a bed of iceberg lettuce with pieces of raw tomato, carrot and cucumber - also on their menu, for $5 less. Easy to make a mistake, I wanted a refund or else a credit towards my next meal there. I called and the manager insisted I got what I ordered. There won't be another next meal there. I've never had Indian take-out this greasy and flavorless before. We ordered a salmon tikki masala dish, and the small salmon pieces were drenched in sauce and there was about 1 inch (and I'm not exaggerating!) of oil floating on the top. Absolutely disgusting. I ordered an okra dish which also had a thick layer of oil on the top, not quite the inch of oil, but at least a half inch. I could only take two bites after I poured the oil off, because the sauce was really lacking seasoning/spices. Perhaps you'll have a better experience eating there, but I do not recommend this at all for take-out! read more

I'd recommend ordering directly through the restaurant, as I think they don't have a $5 surcharge for delivery when you go directly through them. Food is great, delivery is punctual. Very veg/an friendly. I encountered one small issue with a delivery once upon a time (they 15-25 minutes late but Seamless said the food had already been delivered, which it hadn't been) I called the restaurant and they course corrected & got my stuff in minutes, called me back, apologized profusely and offered me some free stuff on my next order. Went in late after coming back from JFK. We were the only ones in the restaurant (other than the many delivery guys coming in and out). My boyfriend and I have received delivery from them many many many times and this was our first time going in. We ordered Taj Kabab King for dinner when staying late at work. The portions are larger than you think I had the dinner special which comes with an appetizer enter rice and naan bread. When the food comes you think wow this container is small but halfway through you realize it's actually a lot of food. You get a Big Bang for your buck and we have an Indian coworker who said the flavors are pretty authentic. They did forget our dessert which we were looking forward to which is why they get three stars instead of four. read more

The vegetable soup was amazing! There were so many spices and seasoning, absolutely delicious. It paired nicely with the naan bread as well. The soup was definitely my favorite. I also had the vegetable samosas and then baklava for dessert. Both were very, very good. The baklava has the perfect amount of syrup. I originally wanted to give 4 stars due to one dish alone. The banana pokora was quite disappointing. It didn't taste like anything, not even like fried banana which it's made out of. It was cold and very firm.
