    Garlic Naan
    Renée M.

Decided to check this restaurant out since we wanted Indian Food after church. The option was either India Oven or this since we've passed it a few times when we've been driving thru Hwy 46. We read mostly good reviews so we gave it a shot. We arrived shortly before noon & waited til then. An East Indian family arrived first so we went in after. There were a few booths on each side of the walls & tables thru the middle. There was also an adjoining wall to pass thru to the Thai restaurant which is owned & operated by the owners. We found out that's been open for 13 years & customers were asking them when they'd open an Indian restaurant so they decided to open one which has been operating for the last 2 years. We sat down & were given menus & asked what we wanted to drink so we ordered Chai Tea & iced water. Our waiter was a very polite & pleasant male whom I'm assuming a family run business? We received a pot of the Chai tea which was uncharacteristically very sweet but rich(waitress said it was pre-made). It was a big pot for 2 people & was different because you could serve yourself vs. refills coming from the kitchen. We decided to order Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan & Lamb Biryani. The Naan bread was brought out first without the entrees but we were hungry so we started eating it. It was nice & buttery with garlic powder & some minced garlic but not too heavy. We were excited to try the Butter Chicken as it's a good gauge for an Indian restaurant, IMO. Well, the sauce was uncharacteristically sweet??and disappointingly flat in depth, not complex & it contained long, sliced chicken breast pieces vs chunks. It needed salt at least as the Jasmine rice(not Basmati) served on the side wasn't going to redeem it. The Garlic Naan at least added flavor when you topped off the Naan & ate it like a wrap. We've never ever had sweet Butter Chicken. The Lamb Biryani was ordered as mild but it had some spice & a lemony note. At least it had more flavor. The yogurt sauce given on the side had an onion-herb fenugreek flavor which I thought was given to cool down your palate but had some spice to it again. When we paid our bill & the waitress asked if we wanted more tea? We said it was too sweet & only if she had something less sweet. She said it was pre-made so we declined. We told her we've had Chai Tea before but we usually have to sweeten it ourselves with the packets of sugar on the table. We paid our bill, packed up our leftover Biryani & chalked it up to another Indian food restaurant experience & celebrating AAPI Month. Maybe we'll try the Thai place next door next time. To note, we've had great Indian food all over the Bay Area, Arizona, Austin & they've all been amazing.

I give the food 5 stars because that's what matters most. The service was good and the dining room was clean and new. rice. Husband had lamb botti (pictured) I had the shrimp Marsala but destroyed my plate before remembering to take a pic. And the garlic naan was the bomb!

Thai beer and the Indian menu. They don't carry any Indian beer.

The food was average in taste but not bad by any means. You can get better by going into San Antonio but if you prefer to stay local then this is a good trade off and decent food. Service was also on the average. The male server was reserved and quiet and seemed like he would rather not be there. To that I say find a different job where you don't have to interact with people. The female was very engaging and all smiles. The seating and tables are bit dated and sterile but it is an Indian restaurant in a strip mall so I guess that is what I should have expected. Finally, the beer. How are you going to have an Indian restaurant but not server Indian beer? Why do you go next door and get Thai beer from the Thai restaurant? Something is not right like they share ownership AND share one liquor license but that is pure speculation.

Food was amazing! Best Indian food I've had in San Antonio area. Definitely don't miss out on their garlic naan. My husband and I shared the chicken korma curry with rice and naan. It was awesome!

Enjoyed my meal, very fresh, great flavors. Loved the iced tea as well. Would love it if they had a lunch buffet, I like a little of everything and the portion are large for one person, so it got a little pricey for me. Great service.

The outside of the building shows its age with some faded menu advertisements, but once inside the restaurant opens up more than I expected. At first it feels small, but past the bar there's a comfortable-sized dining room. Every TV was tuned to the World Cup, which gave the restaurant a fun, energetic atmosphere during my visit. Service was prompt and friendly. My waiter recommended the pork for the momo dumplings and also suggested pairing the meal with one of their Himalayan beers. After reading several Yelp reviews, I ordered the sizzling pork momo, naan, and chicken vindaloo. I also took the beer recommendation, which ended up being a good decision considering I ordered the vindaloo at a 4 out of 5 spice level. The sizzling momo was the standout of the meal. The dumplings were excellent, and the accompanying sauce was flavorful enough that I found myself dipping almost everything into it. The basmati rice was perfectly cooked, and the chicken vindaloo had a nice level of heat without overwhelming the other flavors. The chicken itself was tender and cooked well. Portions were generous, and I ended up with more food than I could comfortably finish by myself. Overall, this was a great first visit. Next time I'll bring my wife so we can share a few different dishes and explore more of the menu.

Had a Saturday night craving for Indian cuisine and Lion Indian was our choice. It has been a few…read moreyears back when we visited India, but the food is usually not a distant memory. The dinner options were either a buffet, or order straight from the menu. Since the buffet was only $15 per person and included some items we wanted to have anyways, we chose the buffet. The choices were limited in number, but enough for us. Buffet included some traditional entrees like Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Masala and several different kinds of Curry dishes. The rice and nan complimented the dish. Wifey enjoyed her meal and felt like the spice level was good enough, but I wanted something a bit more spicy. If my taste buds don't burn a little, then I feel like it is too Americanized. I understand that a buffet is prepared for the average person, but since San Antonio is already known for spicy foods, then a dish or two of a higher heat level would suffice for me. The restaurant is tucked away in a shopping center and it not real visible from the street so luckily Yelp got us here. It is however, close to Loop 1604, so it is an easy drive after exiting. Waitstaff is friendly and on point so it made the small, but comfortable indoor dining a pleasant experience. The wait for the delivery was only about an hour. That was fine with me, as I had plenty of things I needed to get done before I sat down to dine. When I lifted the bundle that was left at my door, I was shocked by the weight! I don't feel like I ordered all that much, but they sure sent a lot of food. I ordered lamb vindaloo, garlic, naan, rice, and samosas. All of it was truly delicious. The large pieces of lamb meat in the vindaloo were tender and soaked with the delicious flavor of the spicy sauce. There were not as many potato chunks as meat chunks, which I consider a good thing in vindaloo. The garlic naan was some of the best I have ever had. I ordered two of them, but really didn't need the second one. They were huge. By themselves, they tasted delicious, but when you dipped it into the vindaloo sauce, it was absolutely amazing. The very first Indian food I ever had was at a dinner party in 1973 when my family was living in Taiwan. The most memorable item for me was the samosas. The ones from this restaurant we're almost exactly like I remembered. I have to also comment on how well everything was packaged. All of the containers were shrink wrapped for extra precaution. I don't think anything could've leaked even if the driver put it upside down. I am anxious to go and try eating at the actual restaurant. Somehow it was off my radar. Supposedly, it's only 4.5 miles from my home who knew?
