I was having a Ramen Night at home, but I felt like I was missing some so I looked up my Favorite Ramen Spot to see what appetizers I could get... O M G was my choice on the chili wontons the perfect match. I have been here many of times and had never tried the Chili Wontons. I typically order Carnitas Ramen which never disappoints me, but I just ordered the Chili Wontons. The wontons are filled with Shrimp and Pork. It was flavorful goodness with a hint of spice finish at the end. It was very delicious. I ordered this through UberEats for pick up for $11. As usual, the host was great. We kicked things off with three appetizers: the garlic edamame, which was good and garlicky; the pork gyoza, where you could really taste the freshness in every bite; and the karaage, which easily takes the crown as the best seasoned deep-fried chicken I've tried in San Diego. For the mains, we caught the Naruto Ramen on its absolute last day as a special. It was okay, just a little bland for my taste. We also went with the Tajima Red--spicy tonkotsu pork bone broth loaded with egg noodles, pork chashu, half a ramen egg, corn, baby bok choy, green onions, and sesame seeds. That one hit the spot and was really good. Honestly, though, the biggest highlight of the night was the service, which was topnotch. Jacey, the manager, was super friendly and helpful. Love this place! The ramen is so good. Tried this one and it was really good. My friend I both agree that the ramen was not salty at all which was excellent. We also got the spicy wontons which were really good and the crispy chicken and those were delicious with the lemon juice on them. (Chefs kiss). Honestly anything from he's is so tasty!! The service was just okay. It was not busy in there and our server didn't check up on us often which wasn't great because there were times when we needed more water, needed something for our food or ready to pay. We started to ask other servers for items because we couldn't find our own and then eventually he would show up. I guess it's just a hit or miss depending on who your server is. The inside is nice. I like how they decorated the place. The inside is big and they have plenty of seating. Depending on the day/evening you don't have to wait long. But the parking lot does get full fast and it's not very big. But the good thing is that you can park on the streets or other parking lots and just walk on over. read more

Came in on a Sunday afternoon & it was pretty empty! Very open floor plan, booths & tables & even a little bar in the middle of the room. Everyone was very kind & helpful. We were helped right away. I ordered their July special called "The Naruto" ramen which was delicious! Everything from the broth, the noodles, everything was cooked perfectly. I also ordered a Lycheetini which was sweet, but very good! This place is great! The only problem is their very extremely limited parking. For starters, I am not a ramen guy, so this is a little biased. I ordered the chicken wings. 4 wings for $9 is pretty expensive. The wings were nice and crispy, but lacked flavor. The server was really nice told me they weren't very spicy and suggested I use the chili paste and powder if I wanted them spicier. I didn't expect to have to use the entire thing of chili paste. They were not spicy and they were not flavorful. They were just meh. I tried my wife's ramen. The broth was flavorful, but I'm still not a ramen guy. This is totally a review for the wings. Last night in SD and we went for Ramen. This place so far for me was best Ramen I've had in SD. Everything we order was so good. We started with karage and garlic edamame. Karage was hot out of fryer and nice and crunchy and moist. I liked that it didn't have lots of seasoning on it. The edamame yum love the garlic sauce on it. The garlic nice and crisp and sauce not over powering salty or sweet great balance if only they can bottle that up I'd take some home. The gyoza yummy as well love that the wonton wrap is so thin and lots of filling. Then we had the chili wonton. That tow was good just to spicy for me. Or ramen finally arrived. My friend and I came during their anniversary special. The server was friendly, and explained the specials and answered all our questions. The garlic edamame was yummy, I was not a huge fan of their chicken ramen, I felt it was missing something... idk maybe more veggies, we were suppose to have extra noodles but mine didn't seem to have that. Pretty good spicy sesame ramen. I do wish it had some more noodle. If I came here again, I'd probably order a noodle refill, but I don't see it on the menu. In my not humble, entitled opinion, the cultured customer should ask for more noodles rather than more toppings. After all, that's ubiquitous in Japan, but you rarely see it here. I don't think I can downvote them for it since I didn't ask, but if I had asked for extra noodle, and they said my only option was to order a second bowl, I probably would've subtracted a star. Lol Broth had a nice meaty flavor and the mix was good. I definitely like the kikurage. I kinda wish there was more meat of some kind, but this style is closer to a tantanmen, which normally doesn't have the chashu, so that complaint is also invalid. If I have to find justification to subtract a star, it's mostly for the curry, which is more of an "extra" on the menu when compared to the ramen. Even then, while the curry was mediocre, partly due to the lack of spice, I thought the texture of the cutlet was quite good, probably better than the fake Coco Ichibanya down the street. I came for a visit with some friends. As expected since it's a popular location, the parking was a little difficult to find and there was quite a wait. The staff provided great service and offered plenty of recommendations. Inside the restaurant, it's very spacious and warm with wood accents and a full bar. For appetizers, we ordered the Takoyaki, Karaage, and Pork Gyoza. The Takoyaki was very hot and incredibly soft and gooey it practically melts into your mouth. The kaarage was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and paired nicely with the sauce. A hint of lemon made it taste so much better. The Pork Gyoza was a good starter and a great way to begin a meal. For our main dishes, we had the Traditional Tonkotsu Ramen, Carnitas Ramen, the Chicken Ramen, and the Chicken Katsu Curry. The Tonkotsu Ramen stood out the most. It's very flavorful and balanced nicely without an overly rich or heavy taste. The Carnitas Ramen was very interesting since it's a unique fusion-style dish which surprisingly works well. The Chicken Ramen on the other hand was decent. The chicken itself was a bit dry and salty, making it the least favorite out of the three we tried. As for the Chicken Katsu Curry, the katsu is crunchy, soft and was great to have. It's not overpowering and the curry flavor was spot on. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying bowl of ramen. It's a great spot for friends, family, and groups. Stopped by Tajima Ramen in Convoy for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. *Entire party must be present to be seated* I checked in before hand so the host already had our table set up and even let us pre-order so the food would be ready - saving us from hangry kids (and adults). Service was excellent throughout, with friendly and attentive staff. While the food itself landed around 3.5/4 stars, the strong service pushed the overall experience up. Karaage ($8): Seasoned, deep-fried chicken served with a side of mayo. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the mayo paired well. Each order came with about five small pieces. Pork Chashu Fried Rice ($14.50): Stir-fried rice with egg, onion, green peas, carrots, corn, chashu, and baby bok choy, served with chili oil on the side. The fried rice was okay on its own and definitely needed the chili oil for added flavor. Carnitas Ramen ($17): Egg noodles in a spicy pork bone broth topped with carnitas, half a ramen egg, diced onions, radish, and a lime wedge. Tasted similar to birria ramen, with decent flavor and a noticeable kick in the broth. Portions were on the smaller side. Like most plazas in Convoy, parking is a challenge. Tajima has a lot of cool fusion flavors and the ambience is very hip and trendy. We got the carnitas ramen which was very flavorful and Hispanic flavor profile which was different from the usual Japanese ramen style. The truffle ribeye ramen was also a very interesting concept. One of my favorite spots in San Diego!! The carnitas ramen piqued my interest when reading the menu, and it was recommended by my server!! I was genuinely pleased by the taste of the carnitas and it paired with the ramen so well!!! The carnitas was soooo soft and tender and I loved the addition of onion and cilantro. The chicken karaage is always a hit here as well! Seating options are a little limited, we had a group of 6 and we sat at the table in the middle which was a little awkward. The takoyaki was legit as it did have octopus. The veggie fried rice tasted as if the butter used has some secret recipe. We were also craving for eggs that day, and since we haven't tried a yakisoba omelette, we tried the omusoba. It's a perfect dish for someone that's a sucker for noodles like me. The sauce, the thickness of the noodles blended well with the eggs. The xiao long bao's soup was flavorful and at the same time blends well with the ginger toppings - and vinegar. Came on a late Friday night, and they were still quite busy. The parking lot is kind of small and it's usually hard to find an open spot. They serve more than ramen here but not many dishes for vegetarians, vegans or ones that doesn't eat pork. Our order didn't take long to arrive to the table. Each person ordered a different type of ramen bowl: traditional Tonkatsu, spicy sesame, chicken, and vegan. The broth were light but enjoyable. The chashu were thinly sliced, easier to eat than having it overwhelming fatty and thick cut. It's all personal preference. The only downfall was I thought the servings were quite small. The customer service was awful. I asked for the food to go after waiting 25 minutes it was not busy. I asked for chop sticks he only put one pair in the bag & there's two of us. Wtf. No soy sauce, no ginger, no wasabi for our two sushi rolls we ordered. No receipt. When we got back to our hotel to discover we're stuck with dry sushi I called to complain. Luckily the bf and I scored a coveted parking spot in the lot and since it was an earlier dinner (around 6:30pm), we also got seated pretty quickly. I spotted a new item that I haven't before, the shrimp wonton ramen and decided to give it a try. It has a chicken based broth, with bok choy, wood ear mushrooms and a few shrimp wontons. The bf got the traditional ramen with extra char su. I decided to get a half egg. For appetizers we got the kaarage and the spicy tuna on crispy rice. The chicken was a bit tough and was somewhat difficult to eat. It had a good flavor but I ended eating it by hand so that I could separate it. The crispy rice tuna was indeed crispy. The tuna was masked by the mixture and wasn't as fresh as I expected. I think I'll skip on both those apps next time. The ramens were good though. I hadn't had their chicken broth before and it has a very nice and clean flavor. The bok choy was tender with a good bite. The egg was nice well. The service was very good. Once we got our order in, food came at a good pace and they were all friendly and helpful. They told us that if you provide a review on Yelp before you leave, you can get a free ice cream. We were a party of six, and my daughter's ramen didn't arrive until roughly 40 minutes after we ordered--long after most of us had already finished. Sat inside (no outside dining area), the friendly server told me about all the specials but I chose their traditional Tajima Ramen with their traditional white pork bone broth even though I love Black Garlic oil. It came quickly and it was simply amazing. The broth has this creamy texture and amazing taste, the pork belly was not dry like in many other places, it just melted on your mouth. We've been on a ramen kick lately. We headed out to one of our favorite spots Ajisen. When we showed up it was completely/permanently closed . Our quest for ramen would not be stopped! We ended up at Tajima. This place did not disappoint. The atmosphere was laid back with fun music playing. The servers were friendly and helpful. The meal was served at a leisurely pace. The crunchy cucumber salad was cool and refreshing. I had the traditional tonkotsu Ramen. It was awesome. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the broth was flavorful, and the pork was tender with a hint of sweetness. Don't be confused by my picture LOL...I asked for no mushrooms ‍. I had corn and black garlic oil on the side. They really rounded out the ramen. My husband had the spicy sesame ramen. He loved it. It had just the right amount of heat to have him sweating a bit. The only drawback to this place is the parking lot. It's pretty small. We were able to find parking out of the lot pretty close. It made for a nice little walk after lunch. The worst service ever. Came in and waited some time at the front to even be seated but in the meantime we got the chance to look over the menu and decide what we wanted. There were 2 of us and we were sat at a 4 seater by the window. After seating us, two other groups of people were sat and they were BOTH served before we were. After 15 minutes have passed by someone finally came to ask if we wanted any DRINKS and after that he tried to leave but we said we were actually ready to order food. Took another 10-15 minutes to bring out the two ramens we bought; traditional tonkatsu ramen and chicken ramen. The other two groups that got sat after us got their food already and one of the groups even finished and LEFT before we even started eating. Upon receiving the food, I got my tonkatsu ramen first and it was very small and plain considering the amount of time it took to come out. The chicken ramen we got was also about the same but it didn't come with the extra 1/2 egg we ordered so we had to ask for that again. The broth was okay with 2 or 3 pieces of meat. We also got the strawberry matcha refresher and it looked like dookie water and the taste followed. Meal was alright for just under $40. Did not tip for the terrible service. read more

We came in around 3:30pm, so it was pretty quiet -- which I actually loved because this location can get pretty busy. Our waiter, I believe his name was Brayden, was so sweet and told us we could sit anywhere. Right away, the service felt warm and welcoming. Honestly, every time I've come here, the staff has always been super friendly. The service was awesome from start to finish. They checked on us multiple times and were really attentive without being overbearing. We didn't need to ask for anything because they were already on top of it. As for the food -- sooo good. Ramen just always hits when you're craving it. I ordered the Carnitas ramen, edamame, and a katsu bun, and everything was delicious. The googie egg is amazing (seriously so good), but I do wish the ramen came with two instead of one. That's my only tiny complaint!
