    Pork Gyoza.
    Karmen L.

The ambiance is good for couples and small groups. The service was very adequate and efficient. The gyoza didn't taste ordinary at all. It has its distinct, standout flavor. The takoyaki was legit as it did have octopus. The veggie fried rice tasted as if the butter used has some secret recipe. We were also craving for eggs that day, and since we haven't tried a yakisoba omelette, we tried the omusoba. It's a perfect dish for someone that's a sucker for noodles like me. The sauce, the thickness of the noodles blended well with the eggs. The xiao long bao's soup was flavorful and at the same time blends well with the ginger toppings - and vinegar. And finally, the ramen. We always order tonkotsu black, but of course we also have to try their special version of black ramen. Both were tasty with flavorful broths. I like how the black Tajima's broth was very garlicky. Overall, they serve the food flavorful, with fresh tender meats, and just warm enough for the tastebuds and tummy.

I came for a visit with some friends. As expected since it's a popular location, the parking was a little difficult to find and there was quite a wait. The staff provided great service and offered plenty of recommendations. Inside the restaurant, it's very spacious and warm with wood accents and a full bar. For appetizers, we ordered the Takoyaki, Karaage, and Pork Gyoza. The Takoyaki was very hot and incredibly soft and gooey it practically melts into your mouth. The kaarage was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and paired nicely with the sauce. A hint of lemon made it taste so much better. The Pork Gyoza was a good starter and a great way to begin a meal. For our main dishes, we had the Traditional Tonkotsu Ramen, Carnitas Ramen, the Chicken Ramen, and the Chicken Katsu Curry. The Tonkotsu Ramen stood out the most. It's very flavorful and balanced nicely without an overly rich or heavy taste. The Carnitas Ramen was very interesting since it's a unique fusion-style dish which surprisingly works well. The Chicken Ramen on the other hand was decent. The chicken itself was a bit dry and salty, making it the least favorite out of the three we tried. As for the Chicken Katsu Curry, the katsu is crunchy, soft and was great to have. It's not overpowering and the curry flavor was spot on. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying bowl of ramen. It's a great spot for friends, family, and groups. Only downside is having to deal with the wait and limited parking so plan accordingly.

Kool little spot with a nice vibe inside. Had the curry ramen which was very good. Had rich smooth flavor and the right amount of spice. And they had a beer tower special for 20 bucks. Definitely will go back to try other options...service was solid, they were attentive enough. Parking is terrible in the area so b mindful of that

My friend and I came during their anniversary special. The server was friendly, and explained the specials and answered all our questions. The garlic edamame was yummy, I was not a huge fan of their chicken ramen, I felt it was missing something... idk maybe more veggies, we were suppose to have extra noodles but mine didn't seem to have that. My friends seem to have all the noodles and their ramen seemed balanced. Maybe I just made the wrong choice.... I'd probably comeback to give them another try.

The price to proportion ratio is so worth it. Each ramen bowl has so much noodles. The broth is also extremely flavorful but a lil oily

    Jenifer B.

I really wanted to like this place, especially given the reviews but the food fell short. My broth felt bland while the edamame were too salty. Staff was nice and the place is cute; there was a short wait when we got there on a weekend night.

Ordered the Tajima Black ramen, and had a great balance to the broth, not too oily and heavy, anf the garlic flavor was nice. The pork had a great flavor and texture, and the egg was yummy, not too runny but still soft and slightly sweet! The noodles were thin and chewy, which is my preference, so I enjoyed them a lot! Friendly and attentive staff, and the interior was very warm and inviting yet cool vibe to it.

Pretty good spicy sesame ramen. I do wish it had some more noodle. If I came here again, I'd probably order a noodle refill, but I don't see it on the menu. In my not humble, entitled opinion, the cultured customer should ask for more noodles rather than more toppings. After all, that's ubiquitous in Japan, but you rarely see it here. I don't think I can downvote them for it since I didn't ask, but if I had asked for extra noodle, and they said my only option was to order a second bowl, I probably would've subtracted a star. Lol Broth had a nice meaty flavor and the mix was good. I definitely like the kikurage. I kinda wish there was more meat of some kind, but this style is closer to a tantanmen, which normally doesn't have the chashu, so that complaint is also invalid. If I have to find justification to subtract a star, it's mostly for the curry, which is more of an "extra" on the menu when compared to the ramen. Even then, while the curry was mediocre, partly due to the lack of spice, I thought the texture of the cutlet was quite good, probably better than the fake Coco Ichibanya down the street. As a further nitpick, I thought the cutlet pieces were way too big, quite unwieldy to eat with the spoon.

We came here for our last dinner in San Diego. I wasn't sure how authentic the ramen would be, but the reviews looked good, so we decided to try it. We waited about 15 minutes and were seated at a large communal table. Orders were taken quickly, and everything seemed fine at first. Our first ramen arrived about 20 minutes later, followed by fried rice and another ramen. We were a party of six, and my daughter's ramen didn't arrive until roughly 40 minutes after we ordered--long after most of us had already finished. Guests who arrived well after us were served much faster, so I'm not sure what happened, but the pacing of service was definitely slow. The ramen itself was decent--not amazing, but not bad either. Nothing particularly memorable. We still enjoyed our conversation and time together, but if all of our dishes had come out around the same time, the experience would have been much better.

Stopped by Tajima Ramen in Convoy for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. *Entire party must be present to be seated* I checked in before hand so the host already had our table set up and even let us pre-order so the food would be ready - saving us from hangry kids (and adults). Service was excellent throughout, with friendly and attentive staff. While the food itself landed around 3.5/4 stars, the strong service pushed the overall experience up. Karaage ($8): Seasoned, deep-fried chicken served with a side of mayo. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the mayo paired well. Each order came with about five small pieces. Pork Chashu Fried Rice ($14.50): Stir-fried rice with egg, onion, green peas, carrots, corn, chashu, and baby bok choy, served with chili oil on the side. The fried rice was okay on its own and definitely needed the chili oil for added flavor. Carnitas Ramen ($17): Egg noodles in a spicy pork bone broth topped with carnitas, half a ramen egg, diced onions, radish, and a lime wedge. Tasted similar to birria ramen, with decent flavor and a noticeable kick in the broth. Portions were on the smaller side. Like most plazas in Convoy, parking is a challenge. The lot is limited, so street parking may be necessary, especially during peak hours.

This was a cool spot to visit if you want to winsome fusion ramen. I got the carnitas ramen in the last visit. It was a blend of carnitas flavor with broth of ramen. The staff were friendly and attentive. They offered the holiday special to get some discount of ordering their gift card. The ramen shop was busy and packed when we visited. The store was decorated in holiday decor. One down side about this location was the parking was limited. I was barely able to find a spot which was also super tight. Good luck to all who are trying to find parking there.

Will the creamy chicken ramen come back rather than the current one that's more like chicken stock?

We love rotating our specials, so it’s possible! Let your server know which version you liked. Your feedback helps shape future menu updates.

Is there a noodle option that does not contain egg? I see they have a vegan ramen but no mention of whether they use different noodles

Hello! They indeed do have a different type of noodle, it's the green spinach noodles. It's an…

Do they still have the option for fat noodles? I used to come here for that

Hello, They don't have an option for fat noodles, it is only their regular noodles or spinach!

What gluten-free options do they have on the menu?

While we don’t offer gluten-free noodles, some rice bowls and small plates can be modified for gluten sensitivity. Please talk to your server about your needs and we’ll help guide you.

    Does Tajima take reservations?

No they do not take reservations

    Do you take apple pay?

They take tap to pay so yes Apple Pay

When will you bring back the Takoyaki Happy Hour again? Yum yum

That one’s a favorite! Keep an eye on our social media or ask your server. Specials rotate regularly and might just make a comeback. In the meantime you can visit here for our current happy hour: https://tajimaramen.com/happy-hour/

Are there a separate line to pickup an online order?

Yes there is an illuminated sign above a second entrance to pick up take out orders

Is Tajima Under new management? We saw a bunch of new items on their menu and tried some. Some were okay. But the real reason I'm asking is because the ramen was not as good as it usually is... maybe too many locations? Or because of covid?

That's the same experience we had on 10/24/20. MSG in ramen and caused my daughter and I to have a very bad reaction as we both have heart issues. The food was absolutely gross. We were told new owners or manager.

Is the Ramen dairy and soy free?

Our ramen bowls are made without dairy ingredients, and the Vegan Ramen uses a soy-based broth. However, recipes and toppings can change, so always confirm with your server if you have dietary restrictions.

Is the new hot chicken sandwich chicken breast or chicken thigh?

It’s made with juicy chicken thigh for maximum flavor and tenderness.

    How is the carnitas ramen?

Great! Amazing use of hispanic flavors

Do they have gluten free noodles?

    No they stopped using them

What time does your kitchen close?

The kitchen closes at the same time as the restaurant. Currently, we’re open until 10pm but we recommend to check our hours online before visiting.

    Do they have gluten free?

I was told today that they are discontinuing their gluten free noodles at all locations.

Where do you park here? Lot is full! Do you let your employees use up all of the available spots?

All the Tajima employees park on the street. There is usually street parking, especially at night as most 9 -5 businesses are closed.

Why do you put butter in your fried rice? That's so Benihana.

    That's so raven

Reminds me of Japan. The art work is awesome as well, the music choice is great, and I really enjoyed the Curry show that they had playing on TV. Service and Ambiance 5/5 Ok for the Curry. I Ordered a Chicken Cutlet curry with Mozzarella cheese and an egg. The rice is on point!!! The egg was cooked exactly how I like my eggs with the crispy edges and runny yolk. The mozzarella cheese is a must, mix it in with the curry and let it melt . For the curry, wow this is so far the best curry I've ever had. It had a nice sweetness to it but not over powering sweet! Wow! 5/5 The Pork Cutlet Udon was also amazing! Thick and creamy also the pickled ginger is soooo good!

The curry base coats every udon noodle and thick enough that every bite carries the right amount of curry. It's savory with a hint of sweetness from the stewed onion slices. I'm not a fan of ginger in general but loved the pickled ginger they had on the side, tasted more like radish honestly. Last curry udon I had was from coco ichibanya, and in comparison, I will choose the curry club over it 100%. Really yum! Ambiance 5/5 -Air conditioned interior makes any weather curry enjoying weather, love the wooden booths and the homey touch of interior design. The photo shows their pork loin to be made up of majority fat with less than 30% lean meat. All of the opaque white areas you see are indeed fat, not connective tissue. That is an excessive amount of fat for something labeled as pork loin and priced at $26. I hope this is informative for others who may be misled by their incorrect claim of "top meat quality."

One star, and it pains me to write it because we've been a loyal regular customer here for years…read morebut the service has just gone down the hill and the staff was so rude to us. We came in at 7:30 pm and the person at the counter rushed us through our order like we were a nuisance for being there. When the food came out, they brought my 8-year-old son a bowl of raw salmon. We had ordered baked. When I asked them to exchange for baked salmon she refused saying "once it leaves the kitchen, no refunds". I was really startled because the tone and brashness of the refusal was something I have never experienced at any restaurant. I told them I didn't want a refund. I just wanted the baked salmon which I thought we had actually ordered. She still refused but offered to get us a baked salmon plate if we paid for it. To the owner: please take a look at your night staff. Loyal customers shouldn't be treated like a nuisance, and a simple fix shouldn't turn into a standoff over policy.

Very pleasant service and no line greeted me today at Katsu Cafe. I was happy to see that I could…read moreorder a dual beef + chicken teriyaki plate so I could try both, and subbed the rice for extra salad. The food arrived quickly and was a large portion for the price. Unfortunately, the salad was bland - while expected to an extent with Japanese salads, the dressing is supposed to deliver but instead it was meek and watery. I also didn't enjoy the pasta-infused potato salad flavor. As for the meats, the beef was tastier to me than the chicken. Both were cut in very large strips which was a bit hard to manage since no knife was provided. Chicken was fairly stringy, and the teriyaki sauce was mid.

This Japanese restaurant is SOO cute and worth the wait!!! The wait can be VERY long though. We…read morecame on a Tuesday at 720pm and got seated around 810pm (one table ahead of us) and got our food by 8:40pm - we had a party of 3 and there's just a few tables that seat over 2. There's indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. The service here was excellent. Everyone was super friendly and checked in on us and apologized for the wait. Interior of the restaurant is very cute - it's small and gives off a modern/charming Japanese cafe vibe with wooden accents. The food was AMAZINGGGG - my favorite was the Napolita pasta - I love the flavor of the tomato sauce they use for this pasta and the ham was amazing. I also highly enjoyed the omurice, which was the best I've had - it was so flavorful and egg was soft and creamy. The chicken karaage was very fresh and crispy on the outside. The mango shaved snow was also phenomenal - I love the mango puree they used on the shaved snow and the mangos were super sweet!! There's some street parking nearby right in front of restauraunt and within nearby neighborhoods. Highly recommend!!

Such a cute little pink decor Japanese based restaurant, really reminded me of Japan not just for…read morethe food but the overall vibe. Even the bathroom had a heated toilet lol that's very Japan like. The food was pretty good. We got the omurice which my husband ate so fast, it's on the sweeter side, the egg could've been a little more runny but it was still good overall. We got the karage chicken, it was very flavorful and the breading was light which I liked and it didn't taste too oily. The curry was super good, the meat was tender and the curry sauce itself had a little spicy kick in it but still super flavorful. Also we got that huge tuna mayo onigiri which was like super sized but it was $8 so yea. It had a lot of tuna and it was packed really well. I was so full but the dessert looked amazing. We tried the matcha latte it was good but tasted just like sugar and milk lol There is no parking, u have to find street parking and there's no cross walk so u basically gotta jay walk if u park on the other side. Also the place isn't that big so it's not great for big parties, maybe for a family of 6 is the most you can accommodate. There is bar seating and limited outdoor seating. The service was great tho, and it's such a cute spot.
