This is my favorite sushi restaurant! The quality is great, the best in the area. I love the sunflower roll and sweet potato roll. Their menu has a ton of options including hibachi, udon and ramen. UPDATE: Unfortunately, they no longer have the all you can eat menu. This is very disappointing as it was our favorite in the area with the best quality sushi. We loved being able to try so many new things without having to worry about paying for something we don't like. It was the main reason we would go, and sadly we need to find a new all you can eat restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I do LOVE this place. I've been coming since it opened and tell everyone I know about it, because it truly is the best quality sushi. Please bring back AYCE. I came to this place after a long run from training for a marathon, and this not only hit the spot, but it's easily the best quality AYCE Japanese food in town. I have been to many, many, many ayce sushi places in tampa and usually you are satisfied from quantity and variety alone. At this place you are satisfied from the quality of the dishes! It feels like this is a hack to have such good quality and unlimited sushi and sashimi! The ramen's are good, definitely great for getting a ramen fix, but they are basically full sized bowls, so don't fill up on it if you're looking to try and eat a lot of high-value food. The food comes out quickly and the servers are very attentive. The place is also huge and well decorated, this is a MUST try for sushi lovers. read more

Why did I choose this place? Because Takara is the company that makes Transformers in Japan! (Editor: This is why you don't have a girlfriend.) There was a Takara Sushi on Bruce B Downs from 2013-2018 close to my house, but apparently there is no relation like Babs and Buster Bunny. Anyway, Takara is in the same plaza off Van Dyke and Dale Mabry as Kohl's , Publix, Subway, and Panni's grill. The restaurant looks small from outside but is more spacious when you enter. Parking is easy due to being in a big plaza. The motif is black and white and dark brown with some Japanese artwork. There is a sushi bar section and regular booths/tables. Since it is relatively new, there was only one couple and me on a Sunday evening. The service was great. They even gave me a "Cheese and Cracker" appetizer sample for free which was a nice touch.. It was a cheese tempura item with some sauce. 4/5 I ordered 3 rolls and a soda. The presentation was great -served on a wooden board with some orange slices and some petals. I ordered a spicy tuna, eel and avocado, and a lobster roll. The prices were fair and the fish was fresh. The spicy tuna was a bit mushy, but good. I think Yoshi Sushi is my favorite of the Tampa places that I've been to , but Takara is pretty good with no major faults. 4/5 As of this review, they have no alcoholic drinks such as beer or sake. Hopefully, they consider it in the future. In other reviews, other folks kept talking about fried oreos , but I didn't see that on the menu. The desserts consist of various ice creams and fried cheesecake. Beverages include fountain sodas, Thai Thea, and Japanese sodas. It's also nice that it is open Sundays. My wife and I had heard about this new sushi place in Lutz and of course we had to try it. They are still in their soft opening. The menu is very good in terms of both kitchen prepared dishes and sushi. Their sushi selection is the the most extensive I have seen in awhile. My wife ordered the Spring salad which was large with a ginger dressing that was very good. She also ordered the Snoopy and Volcano rolls. The Snoopy roll was great! Loved it. The Volcano roll was just ok. I had the Sushi dinner which was 8 pieces of chef's choice and a California roll with choice of salad or Miso soup. The selections were good. They didn't give any of the super inexpensive sushi like Krab stick or Shrimp. 2 Tuna, 2 Salmon, 2 white fish, 1 Octopus and 1 Mackerel. All nice sizes, very fresh and the Miso soup was excellent. I had also ordered Smoke Salmon sushi and a Yellow Tail Jalapeño hand roll and asked that they add Massago to the roll, which they did. The hand roll was fantastic. While we waited for our order, they brought out a Krab and cream cheese tempura roll for us to share. It was good and a very nice gesture. The waiter came back and asked if we would be ok if they served the sushi on a single platter. Sure. What they did was put all the sushi on a boat which was was super impressive! Picture attached. Shrimp I covered in a thick panko crust not a light airy tempura batter one had expected and it arrived at the table luke warm as evidently it sat in the kitchen. Couldn't finish the six pieces of overcooked shrimp. Uninspired nigiri sushi. Ordered several nigiri sushi. Small pieces of fish on very cold sushi rice. Went for lunch with a bff, and I have to say, catching up with her was way better than the sushi. They gave us 2 complimentary avocado sushi pieces for their soft opening, very tasty. We ordered 6 rolls from the classic rolls menu, priced 3 for $16. It came with a choice of Miso soup, very good, or green salad. I was wondering if the lunch menu size sushi is smaller than regular menu size, because they appeared petite. Also because I normally can't finish 3 sushi rolls, but I actually did these. I hate to say this for a new business, but I've had better sushi at a buffet, and the salmon was pale and mushy, to me indicating a low grade (bottom far right in picture). It was just so mundanely okay and unmemorable. I enjoy an mmm, this is so good reaction with sushi. Service was good though, but sorry, I can't come back just for that. read more

This is a best kept secret in Lutz. The food is on point. I tried to salmon hibachi and I could have easily eaten the rice and vegetables by itself that's how well seasoned it was. The service was pretty good too. My wife said that the sushi was good. I would have given it a 5 but the ambiance was a little too quiet. They needed to have the music on a little louder. We had to try this new spot and it did not disappoint! Walking in, the place was simple but had an edge to it and a large random lobster-inspired banner that blocks out their kitchen. Which is still kind of fun..and random. We were seated immediately and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful throughout the duration of our meal. We took our 2 year old and he was...well.. a toddler in a restaurant. Haha they were SO kind and patient and treated our toddler very well. The food: Krab Cream Cheese Tempura App: I was confused because they also have krab Rangoon listed on the menu. The waitress explained the the krab Rangoon are the fried wontons that have krab and cream cheese in the center (your traditional krab Rangoon). The krab cream cheese tempura app is just that - sticks of krab on top of cream cheese lightly deep fried. This was DELICIOUS! We really enjoyed the lightness of the appetizer and fought over who was going to eat the last piece. Dynamite roll: traditional deep fried salmon roll. Delicous and pretty! Sushi taco: I ordered this appetizer as a meal because we were sharing everything. It comes with 2 tacos and I'd order this again and again and again. The lobster and krab salad was a perfect combination with the sauce and the mango. The "taco" shell was crispy adding that nice crunch. Chefs kiss! Grilled shrimp ramen: this was my husbands choice and he said it was delicious. The bowl of ramen was HUGE and he happily ate every bite. Big pieces of shrimp and just very well flavored. (His words - not mine). Kids chicken hibachi: just a really good sized portion. It was chicken hibachi..not too greasy..not too much..and had perfect hibachi flavor. I'd definitely recommend this place! It's just different where it offers more items than just sushi. Having the different types of appetizers and variety of hibachi to ramen makes something there for everyone. Got Food Poisoning Drink: I ordered the Rock & Roll, Sakura Roll, and a Thai Tea on a Saturday evening for take-out. The restaurant wasn't busy and there were still several hours until closing time. I took a sip of the Thai tea and was disgusted. The tea was both overly sweetened and strained poorly so I had a mouth full of black tea grounds. I sent it back immediately and explained how the drink was poorly made. They voided my order and charged again without the Thai Tea. Sushi: I became very sick with GI issues that same night after eating the sushi rolls. I was sick with food poisoning for 4-5 days. There is no excuse for the negligence, especially since the restaurant was empty. (3 of the staff members were having dinner in the dining area behind the front desk). It was a terrible experience. The sickness that resulted has genuinely scared me away from eating sushi again. Truly concerning, especially from a new restaurant. I DO NOT recommend eating here. read more

If you have not yet tried Takara Sushi Grill & Bar on Van Dyke Road in Lutz, you are missing out. My husband and I are foodies and kinda Sushi snobs and this place knocked our socks off. The menu is extensive and very creative and all of the food was even more delicious than we had hoped. Since they just opened a couple of weeks ago, they gave us a krab and cream cheese tempura appetizer to try. It was delicious! The tempura was very light and flaky and the krab and cream cheese were melted and gooey. It was topped with a sweeter sauce (eel sauce?) which complemented it perfectly. We each ordered an appetizer for us to share. I ordered that Avocado bomb and he ordered the jalapeño popper (both are pictured). Both were outstanding! We devoured both and did not come up for air until we were finished. For my entree, I ordered the Salmon Sensation Roll with salmon roe and eel sashimi (pictured). My husband ordered the American Dream roll with masago and salmon sashimi (pictured). Everything was amazing! It was delicious, fresh and perfectly plated. For dessert, the waiter. Andy (who was super nice, polite, and attentive) brought us tempura fried Oreos with whipped cream and chocolate sauce (pictured). This is not even on the menu yet. It was to die for! And it capped off a perfect meal. Needless to say we left the restaurant filled to the brim but super happy. This place is DISGUSTING and a complete ripoff. We decided to go here because of all the rave reviews. What a mistake! To start, I ordered a double Absolut in a tall glass with cran and lime. The waiter was clueless what I was ordering and he was the person who made my drink. Please see picture below. The picture is what it came out as NOT after I drank it. It was actually brought to me to the table like this. My daughter ordered a Mai tai. It came out BROWN with tons of pineapple pulp. We opted for the all-you-can eat for $29 per person. It was my daughter, my husband, and I. We ordered gyoza, crab Rangoon, and the jalapeño poppers. My daughter got the mushroom soup and my husband got the miso soup. We ordered four different sushi rolls, and then my daughter and husband ordered the chicken fried rice and I got the steak and shrimp. It states on their menu that basically if you don't eat it, then it changes to a la carte. Well, the steak was so chewy, I had to spit a piece out on a napkin because I could not chew it. As soon as the sushi came out, my daughter, who worked for a sushi place all throughout college, said this is not fresh. She took one bite of her sushi roll and my husband took one bite of his, and they both said it was minced meat. My husband actually said he needed to get home and lick the dog's ass to get the taste out of his mouth. He is a person that A, never complains, and B, normally would not say anything of this nature, so me and my daughter actually thought we were going to die laughing because it is so far out of his character. We told the waiter that we were full after our meal and that he could go ahead and charge us the a la carte prices. We didn't want to be rude and quite frankly, just wanted to get the hell out of there. My daughter and I left the restaurant and my husband stayed back to pay. When he got to the car, I was astonished. our bill was over $200. They had charged us for the all you can eat AND individually for most of our meals. We literally paid for almost everything twice. As a court reporter, I need to talk to someone because I can't imagine this is legal to do. I went back in to talk to the owner but literally after 10 minutes of my husband and daughter being in the car, I told her I wasn't going to sit there any longer. She tried to tell me that I was getting the better end of the deal but did I? We went to Ruth's Chris for an amazing meal with both my kids, my husband and I and paid $325 for all of us and we all had steak, appetizers and drinks. Now, I feel sick to my stomach from not only the food but from the horrifying screw I got from the price. Do yourself a favor, if you've made it this far...DON'T EAT HERE!! It's disgusting. REPLY: We ordered four apps, two soups, four rolls, and three meals. It was way too much for us. We were trying to taste as much as we could to hopefully come back. And you brought us our sushi rolls last, thank God because we probably couldn't have stomached the chewy steak after those rolls. I never yelled at you. There's no need to yell. I didn't stay there to wait because as you saw, we had my nine-month old granddaughter with us who has a strict bedtime. Remember that we had already paid the bill. I wasn't asking you to take anything off. What I came in and asked was why we got double charged for so many things per the receipt that I uploaded. I would have been fine with the upcharge of the sushi rolls as we were calling it a day but to say all you can eat and then charge again for the meals is quite ridiculous. You basically double charged us everything!! You charged once for the all you can eat and then again for the meals. The meals were huge which I would have thought would have been smaller since it was all you can eat. But I guess that's in your business plan just like sending the sushi rolls out last. As I said it was $270 lost. Not a big deal. What I'm trying to avoid is y'all scamming someone else. There's been a lot of sushi places in that particular spot. Amazing! Come here for some creative and great sushi rolls! I am very picky of my sushi spot and this has become one of my favorites and will be my go to spot! First off the overall appearance is very clean and modern contemporary . Staff is very friendly and quick to get your order. The best part was of course was the food! we had started with the tuna bonjour (no rice roll). It's was very delicate, the lobster salad with the tuna and the sauce went together extremely well! We started with the Krab cream cheese tempura app, lightly battered/fried and good amount of Krab and cream cheese. The Miso soup was a good portion and yummy. All the rolls we got (Sexy on the Beach, Yellowtail Jalapeño, Spicy Krab, Snow mountain) were some of the best rolls we've ever had. Ended the meal with fried Oreos which were also really good. We came here because we were shopping next door. They do have a pretty great menu. My sister ordered the sexy on the beach roll and she said it was extremely flavorful. I got the scallop hibachi with the intent of splitting it with her and thank goodness that was the plan because it was a huge portion! My scallops were also very thin and flat like someone else said but it was still very good-I asked for lo mein instead of rice and had to pay $2 extra but to me it was worth it and I wanted to eat all the lo mein it was soooo good!! The mushroom soup it came with was also very tasty! It came with a salad as well which seemed a little flooded with dressing. The only negative was the eggroll we ordered-which actually was 2 in the order which would have been great BUT...it was ice cold inside-nice and beautifully browned and crispy on the outside but obviously it must have previously been frozen-so we had him take it away and remove from the bill, he seemed hesitant to want to do that but he did. It's pretty far from where we live-we have a place closer to us that would probably be my preferred place but it was overall a good experience. read more

All of which should not be any close to that color. We opted for the all you can eat option. Appetizers were good, hibachi was okay, but the second I bit into the sushi, I knew I had messed up in suggesting this as the restaurant to eat at tonight. The meat on the Rock n Roll roll was comparable to biting into sausage... weird. I worked at a sushi restaurant in college and never had experienced anything like this and I lived in a landlocked state at the time. All this to say, save yourselves!!! Do not eat here. I can't figure out how to respond to the owners response; however, I stand by what I said previously. I worked at a sushi restaurant, served plenty of tables, saw thousands of rolls and never once was a fried tuna roll brown. Also, the napkins with a piece of a roll in it were from where I physically could not eat it and had to spit it out. I have never done that at a restaurant. The rolls were left on the table because after the first bite I refused to eat them. I did not want to end up in the hospital from eating old fish.
