I'm only 25 and look relatively healthy which means that most doctors I have been referred to treated me like a pain pill addict. Dr. Chang is the first pain management doctor who took the time to see beyond my looks and into how my life has dramatically changed while dealing with excruciating, chronic pain. Dr. Chang gave me something that I had lost a long time ago and that was hope. He showed me my scans and not only explained what we were looking at but then pointed and pressed on the corresponding areas of my body to teach me why I'm having the pain in these areas. Dr. Chang understands the effects that long term, chronic pain can have not only on a persons body but their mental state as well. He attacks the issue of chronic pain from all sides instead of just writing more prescriptions for the physical symptoms. I don't normally write these reviews but after seeing over 25 doctors in the last 3 years for this issue and not gaining much ground against the problem I have to applaud Dr. Chang. He takes the time to let you know all the different ways chronic pain can effect your life and explain in understandable detail the different coping mechanisms that we can use to fight this. Hands down, I would recommend Dr. Chang to anyone who has lost hope of a fulfilling lifestyle due to chronic pain. He doesn't promise to stop the pain completely, because no one can honestly do that, but he gives you the skills and tools to take control of your life again and for that I am extremely grateful.

However, as soon as I was escorted through the first door by a tall, slender, older blonde staff member to apply an extended wear monitor, the experience changed. While the procedure was performed correctly, her demeaning behavior and lack of warmth made the interaction uncomfortable and upsetting. It was disappointing to encounter this level of unprofessionalism after a strong initial impression. I hope the institute addresses this, as the skill level of their staff is evident, but respectful and compassionate communication should be consistent throughout the patient experience.

Gave us pain killer and anti-inflammatory pills, told him to get physical therapy and send us back home. He told us that surgery was not necessary as " 50% of people are happy with it ". It seems that dr Hershey is either not willing or not able to update his skills because after a second opinion and several months lived in pain my husband is going to have a shoulder surgery that is given 90% success rate. The fifty fifty outcome might have been a realistic estimation 30 years ago but techniques have evolved. I would not recommend if your medical condition is serious and you feel like you might need surgery.
