Updating this review because my experience with their custom cupcakes for my gender reveal was HORRIBLE. I was pregnant and literally cried over it. I could have very easily went to Small Cakes and spent less money. Going forward I will never buy cupcakes elsewhere. I'm giving them 1 star fact that the design was beautiful and they placed the edible stars I supplied perfectly. The second star is for their customer service when placing my order. I deducted 3 stars because the price, the fact that the cupcakes tasted plain/spongy, they didn't provide a protective box to get the cupcakes home literally less than 2 miles away AND because they were so top heavy they fell over. I opened the box and half the cupcakes were damaged. read more

I was looking for a tres leches cake. After not finding what I was looking for, I decided to try Take the Cake. It was a good decision! The cakes are very large, so I decided to try their slabs of cake ( actually large slices). I bought a hummingbird cake and a German chocolate cake. Both were good, but the hummingbird cake was gone so quickly that I only got a tiny bite. Both cakes were good, but the hummingbird was really really good. Got a cake made here for my son's 1st bday and asked for a simple blue frosted cake with sprinkles (we opted to use our own decorations). I was so happy when I picked up the cake it was exactly how I wanted it. In addition, the cake was delicious! We ordered a 12 inch vanilla cake and it was super moist and not too sweet. I always come here to get a slice of cake and cupcakes when I want to indulge in guilty pleasures lol.... This time I ordered an 8" Italian cream cheese cake for my moms bday! Look how beautiful it turned out. So pretty! Ordering online was easy and swift. They called to confirm and took payment over the phone. My cake was ready for pickup on the day and time requested. The cake was flavorful however, it crumbled upon cutting :-( and my sister complained that it had a "refrigerator" taste. Mom said she like it but didn't eat much of it after the initial slice. I was in n charge of ordering the cake for my sweet sister and brother in laws baby sprinkle for my sweet 3rd niece that's due next month. My sister wanted a beautiful classic cake and sent us a picture of what she wanted. I looked online and found Take the Cake and was happy to see it was close to my sisters home and amazing reviews. This is the only place I go when I need a quick dessert. They usually not quick to respond at the drive thru, so I would suggest to just knock on the windows to get their attention or go inside. I usually get the Hummingbird. Absolutely love it read more

Referred by a friend. I reviewed the website and found a lot of valuable information and pictures. I called to order my fiancee's 50th birthday cake. My intention was to go chocolate with some of the fancy signature decorations. But, I was informed the carrot cake was their best seller. I was actually torn between the two, so changing direction was not an issue whatsoever. I order the 6 inch, 3 layer cake with soft pink pouf decor. I was fone, or so I thought. During the night I got to thinking of the coloring (red dye) in the pink frosting. I knew she wouldn't have anything to do with it. I called the next afternoon and requested a change to a standard carrot cake. No problem, they gladly made the change. The only issue I incurred was the pricing of the cakes. The information was apparently outdated and the prices were several dollars more. The day came to pickup. I couldn't wait to see it and to see my fiancee response. The cake was very beautiful. Tall, white and trimmed with chopped nuts. We waited the suggested time for the cake to warm up (as it was previously stored in the cooler). She cut into the cake and expose three layers of moist carrots, pineapple goodness surrounded by silky cream cheese. We each took a bite. It was one of the best carrot cakes I've ever had. It was so good, I immediately picked up the phone to call Take the Cake and thank them. I wish I would have taken a picture to share. The experience overall was great and I will be back. read more

If you want delicious cakes and other tasty treats this is a wonderful local business to support. We started here a year after moving to Cypress and have used them for birthdays, graduation and holidays. The tres leches is one of our favorites and the confetti cake was a hit in January for a birthday. I met someone in line last visit getting a cake for their daughter who was heading to the peace corp. She said they have been coming here longer than my family and we started in 2012. So it's pretty dang solid as far as this goes. 100% recommend. read more

This is the second cake that I have gotten from this place. One last year for my daughters birthday and one this year for the same thing! Both were great! But this years cake was especially good! I got compliments on it as a really good cake. Last years presentation of the cake was better but this years flavor was better in my opinion. Both years were still amazing though. Ordered a cake for my sons birthday from here based on a rock band, it was ok. I wouldn't say it was great. The design was cool, I did like it but I wish they wouldn't have copied the picture to the t. I asked them to make it look different but they did not. I also got half a dozen cupcakes from here, they were quite hard and stale. The cake was only $100 so I didn't expect the best in the world. Cool little location and I would recommend for basic cakes just not custom cakes. read more

Take the Cake started with one wholesale account and a few Special Occasion Cake orders. Since then, we have changed grown from a 100 square foot kitchen to a 3,500 square foot kitchen with several bakers and cake decorators. What I love: how the building looks on the outside and inside; the owner is very kind, friendly and eager to converse with visitors; and the idea that you can purchase an album by The Jungle Brothers, David Axelrod, Andre 3000, De La Soul or D'Angelo along with sweet treats from the bakery is just so cool. As a cratedigger who loves buying records, this is just so impressive to me. The great artwork hanging on the walls is another plus. A family member bought a delicious strawberry cake for my birthday a few years back, and that was my first introduction to Crumbville. The owner's decision to offer vegan and gluten free desserts was a smart decision, but she also offers regular baked goods. During my first visit recently, I purchased a strawberry cupcake, which had a lime-flavored cookie base. It was sublime and reminded me so much of the birthday cake from years ago. Service was great here. Overall, I just love this place. It makes me smile, and I will be very sad to see it go.

My name is Demetrius Bryan, and this was one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I have ever had. I spent over $300 on a custom cake for my son's birthday. While the cake looked nice and tasted good, the most important detail--the name of the birthday child--was completely wrong. My son's name was not misspelled; it was simply incorrect. Unfortunately, I did not discover the mistake until the day of his birthday. At that point, there was nothing I could do. We needed a cake for the celebration, so I had no choice but to use it and address the issue afterward. What should have been a special moment became frustrating and embarrassing because a centerpiece of the celebration displayed the wrong name. When I contacted the company after the event, I expected them to take accountability and make a genuine effort to correct the situation. Instead, I was offered $20 in compensation for a mistake on a cake that cost more than $300. Frankly, I found that offer insulting. After expressing my disappointment, the offer was increased to $30, but the company remained firm that this was all they were willing to do. What bothered me even more than the compensation was the complete lack of empathy. During my conversation with a supervisor, I asked how they would feel if their own child's name had been incorrectly placed on a birthday cake and there was no opportunity to fix it before the celebration. The response I received was to "keep it pushing." That statement alone told me everything I needed to know about how this company values its customers once a problem arises. Mistakes happen in every business. What separates great companies from poor ones is how they respond when those mistakes affect their customers. Instead of taking ownership, showing empathy, or making a meaningful effort to resolve the issue, this company chose to minimize the situation and act as though it was not a big deal. To put things into perspective, their cake tasting fee is $25. They believed that a mistake involving the wrong name on a custom birthday cake was worth only a few dollars more than the cost of a tasting appointment. That speaks volumes. The unfortunate part is that I genuinely wanted to support this business. This was my first order, and I was excited to recommend them to friends and family. However, after this experience, I cannot recommend them in good conscience. If they are willing to make a mistake this significant on a child's birthday cake and then dismiss the customer's concerns afterward, potential customers should think carefully before trusting them with an important celebration. Ordered custom cake and cupcakes for a baby shower I was hosting and I can't tell you how AMAZING they were! Everyone was blown away by all of the intricate details on the cake and cupcakes. I had emailed them a picture of what exactly I wanted and they matched it perfectly. I ordered 2 dozen cupcakes and I didn't have a design for them so I gave them free reign and just told them I wanted it to go with the cake and they knocked it out of the park. They were STUNNING. I received compliments all night for how yummy the cake was. Very buttery, taste similar to a wedding cake. The cupcakes were HUGE! They are like double the size of a regular cupcake.
