Popped into Taki last night for the first time after finding it on Yelp. The combo of fantastic reviews, great prices, and a health score of 100 convinced us that we needed to try it! We started out with the yellowtail jalapeño appetizer, which was out of this world. It came with four thick pieces of fish, topped with black tobiko, jalapeño, and ponzu. It was so unique and delicious that I could've ordered several more orders! We ordered a couple of cut rolls as well, including the spicy salmon and spicy tuna. We preferred the spicy salmon over the tuna, but both were still solid performers. The red snapper nigiri was delicious, although I think I would ask for some yuzu and lemon to go on it next time (my guilty pleasure). Last but not least, we decided to try the volcano roll which was perfectly done with eel sauce and spicy mayo. Overall, Taki was a great find. We will definitely be back! read more

I'm in shock of how many good reviews this place has considering how terrible the sushi was. I will never return. The shrimp tempura was thick and heavy. The rolls were mushy and fell apart. The fish did not taste fresh at all. If Gordon Ramsey's kitchen nightmares was still around I'd nominate this place. Everything we ordered should have been returned to the kitchen, it was gross. I wanted my husband to leave the inedible food so that the server or manager would notice we were not satisfied but he insisted we take it to go and find a homeless person on the way home. Very friendly, from the host, to our server, and even the kitchen all greeted us as we walked to our table. This place is amazing. It does get pretty busy in the evening so be prepared to have to wait a couple of min for a table. Don't worry it's worth the wait. Small but yet not too small it's prefect for a sushi restaurant. It does look like a hole in the wall but it's the best hole in Denver you will find. Sushi & Veggie Sushi (To-Go) I don't like seafood so my go is a vegetable tempura roll and edamame. The vegetable tempura roll I got was really good with spicy mayo on the side. I docked a star because they don't have garlic edamame and I really didn't care for the spicy edamame I got. I knocked another star because of the short ribs I ordered. The sauce just isn't great, they need to fix it. The meat had a lot of sauce but it was kind of watery and did not have a lot of flavor. Ironically with all the sauce the meat was still kind of dry and chewy. I'd pass on the short ribs. Gyoza and spring rolls were both good.. I've had better but still good. For the seafood items my husband loved the volcano roll and king crab special. Maybe this spot brings it home with the seafood, not so much non seafood items. Definitely a return if I am in the neighborhood. Service is prompt. When I talk to the staff about our group wanting to pay separate checks, they are willing to do it. First of all the service is amazing. You get a server and then TWO busgirls who ensure your water is filled throughout the meal! We got the spicy super white tuna to start. Delicious. Fresh chunks of fish with sweet and salty sauce! Then we shared the New york roll (love that they used soybean wrapper instead of the traditional nori) and the pearl roll. Everything tasted so fresh and the rolls weren't chock full of rice. Did I mention the rolls were less than $13 each?! Such a steal for good service, fresh sushi, no wait time, and no frills! This little hole in the wall joint is a lovely place to come for an affordable sushi dinner. Just keep in mind that while the quality is not necessarily bad it wasn't of high quality, either. Our biggest peeve was the skimp on the rice. As you can see in our photos, the rice layer is so thin on our sushi they're practically falling apart. We LOVED the gyoza so much we got two orders. This is a dish where you can really taste the quality. Our server was so so nice and polite and checked on us frequently. While it wasn't a bad experience. We probably won't come back when we can get a less sloppily made plate of sushi elsewhere. read more
