If you want delicious greek food definitely go here. It is a far better choice than Stephos (it is more expensive but the food is 1000 times better here). I really love the Grilled Calamari, which you actually cannot get too many places in this city. The greek salad is great and top it off with a glass of wine you are good to go! Cozy, friendly, and tasty Greek restaurant. My boyfriend and I come here once a month and have never had a bad experience. I am a pescatarian so it's such a pleasure to be able to order the fresh salmon skewers and get the rest of the Greek platter. The tzatziki is amazing and the portions are huge. I was here a couple weeks ago on vacation from San Francisco. I have to say, was THE BEST Greek food I have ever eaten in my entire life, period!! I am coming back to Vancouver just for Takis. Not only is the food completely out of this world good, the service was great as well. We ordered the chicken livers in red wine sauce (to die for!), the mussls (soooo good), the grilled Calamaraki (fantastic and so juicy when I bit into it, heaven), and the braised lamb shank in red wine sauce (never had anything like this before, THE BEST). I'm not really a Greek food expert, but Taki's is the best place I've found in Vancouver. I generally just get the souvlaki meal with potatoes and rice. As someone who puts a large amount of emphasis on the deliciousness of potato products, I would say that their potatoes are one of the best I've had at a Greek resturant. The spanakopita is quite delicious, and I always enjoy the pita bread that they send around. Pricewise, it runs you from $15 on up, but I always get enough food from the main course that I often don't order anything else. Highly recommended. read more

On a busy Sunday afternoon we were craving Greek food but didn't want to stand in a line-up to get mediocre greek food...referring to the joint a couple of doors down. The decor is typical greek with flower pots separating tables which I thought was a great idea. I started off with the appetizer grilled Calamari, a great portion size. The BF and I were out after work on a Friday and could not decide if we wanted Japanese Teppanyaki or Greek food. Two extremely different choices, I know, so we took a walk to see what popped up first. We just happened to walk down Davie Street and come across this little Ma and Pa Greek restaurant. The decor was very traditional Greek. Lots of light blue, lace and fancy table cloths but still casual. Definitely family owned, which are the best. I actually liked that all the tables and chairs did not match, just thrown together. After all, they all do the same thing. I think it added more character. We ordered water because it was toasty warm and I wasn't in the mood to drink wine. Their beer and wine list was not the greatest but it had the basics. We ordered the lamb and salmon kebabs. Both came with the traditional potato wedge, rice pilaf and Greek salad sides. The lamb was arguably the best lamb I have ever had. Lightly seasoned and so tender that even the fat was edible. Yum. The salmon came cooked perfectly too. It was tender and juicy, with lightly crispy edges and just the right amount of char from the grill. The potatoes were melt in your mouth and I wouldn't change a thing about the Greek salad. I was even super-impressed with the rice pilaf. As a rule, I never eat a lot of the rice but this time I ate more than normal. Takis is the best Greek food I had.'ve I recommend it to anyone. I would like to think that even right-off-the-boat Greeks would agree. The prices are reasonable, the service is quick and the food is incredible. A must try! read more

Takis Taverna is my absolute favourite Greek restaurant. I have been enjoying the food, ambience, and great service for over 15yrs. The food is always fresh and delicious. When you walk in you feel like your in Greece. The furniture,colours and music are very balanced. The staff are very friendly, and attentive to the customers needs. If I could suggest one thing to change it would be please get air conditioner, or at least more fans to reach all customers. Enjoy! read more

One of the best mousakka I've had here in Vancouver. Go for the veggie as it's tastier than the meat version,which is good too. Lamb is super tender and tasty with excellent flavours. Never really cared for Stepho's nor did I get why ppl chose to wait there. The service has always been impeccable and they have made sure that our dining experience is up to par. The good : delicious dishes that leave you full. The bad: not as cheap as Stepho's, but don't even think about it... The ugly : mousakka is too darn tasty that I usually only eat that when I go. read more

Best Greek in Vancouver so far!! I love Greek food, and eat it often so I guess you could say I'm a bit of a snob about it. Takis Taverna has the traditional dishes that I love; ie: feta & olives, spanikopita which you can have as a dinner and lamb. I haven't been to Stephos so I cannot comment on the difference in taste, but I have eaten Greek food all around the world and Takis was good in comparison to other places I have had it around Vancouver. It is not a fancy place, but just has good, simple Greek food just what I was hoping for and expecting. read more

I had gone here with my wife for dinner and we thought let's try a place we have never been. A very small and cozy restaurant with a very romantic atmosphere and soothing Colors and comfortable seating. We had started with a shared dip platter with eggplant and hummus and for our main courses my wife and I shared the lamb shank and the seafood combo. I can't stress enough the size and quality of the portions we left completely satisfied and left with a new favourite restaurant. I will recommend to any friends seeking a fabulous dinner. read more

Great spot!! The welcome seemed heartfelt and warm, clearly a family business that was an essential part of the neighborhood. Our server, Christopher was an absolute gem. Friendly,welcoming and really quite endearing. We had a mish mash of items for our meal- meatballs, prawns and squid, Greek salad, house salad and spanakopita, all of which were very good. Following the meal,we each had a small shot of retsina, which was the perfect finish to a Greek meal. Then the fun began. Takis Taverna is a great little greek restaurant is you don't want to wait in line at Stephos. It is a bit more expensive but worth it. The food comes out quickly and the service is always amazing and friendly. I really love this little gem in the west end. I love the lamb dishes I have tried both of them and was extremely satisfied. There was more than enough food on the table. I ordered Saganaki and was not very impressed by the time it came to our table it was a bit cold. I usually like it when they light it up at our table, they did not have such showman ship here. But otherwise it's a great quick and easy meal if you don't want to make dinner. read more

Take out review only. I am a major Greek food fanatic. So much so, that after a nice dinner out Saturday night at Maria's we decided to order in the next day for a late lunch/ early dinner. Maria's wasn't open till five so we went with Takis via Door Dash. Was very excited to stuff my face with Tadziki but it just wasn't that great. The Tadziki lacked flavor and love. It pretty much tasted like yogurt. Needed garlic in a big way! The Greek salad was also not so great. It was very vinegary, almost lemon tasting/bitter. Most of the food had a heavy citrus zing the mask/overpowered the other flavors. The pita was basic pita but it was fresh and warm and a generous proportion. The meatballs were huge and good. Not mind blowing or anything but probably the best item out of our whole order. Even the spanakopita was a little bland. Spanikopita was a good size and the phylo pastry crust was cooked quite Nicely but it wasn't as good as I had hoped. I have ordered take out from Takis before and thought it it was decent. Two couples abandoned the check-in station after being unattended for long periods. Hostess came across as indifferent or annoyed at being over-worked, difficult to tell which. ...The one over-worked waiter was intelligent, uncommonly kind and attentive; but the expectations placed on him were unrealistic. The food was satisfactory, but unremarkable; an example, the souvlakis was overdone, but well-seasoned. Prices had seemingly increased, as they are now as high or higher than Stepho's, next door. Summary: Okay if you can't get in next door. In some respects better - quieter, certainly less crowded. Nice prospect of the street, pleasant waiter. read more

Too hungry for the Line up at Stepho's? here is a good Option, Stepho's Is well priced, you get good food but my feeling is they focused a little more on sides than the actual main food on the plate. (not bad don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Stepho's) BUT if you looking for a quaint, scrumptious -hole in the wall- kind of, place. Takis Taverna is the way forward. The food was seasoned perfectly, not a long wait for the food. The service was not too bad, friendly people just a little under the whip I found (it was an active night we went) the atmosphere was nice, a lot more private than that of the other Greek spot a few doors down. Price was so so. After I ate my meal I felt the price was justified. Its a place I would take advantage if any deals came up. read more

Worst Greek food I've ever had. In fact, this is the only Greek restaurant I will NEVER return to. Beyond disappointing. Lamb was so tough I couldn't cut into it. Rice was sloppy & swimming in sauce. Potatoes & carrots were bland & tasteless as though boiled. Hummus lacked flavor & tasted like plain, minced chick peas with no hint of tahini, garlic or lemon. Salad was mostly cucumber chunks & again, flavorless. Baklava was inedible: mushy, soaked in syrup, & I still cannot identify the type of nuts in it, maybe because one single nibble turned me completely off. My husband and I ordered Dolmathes ($19.95) and Lamb Souvlaki ($19.95) via Foodora. His Souvlaki was satisfactory, but my Dolmathes was a major disappointment. First of all, I didn't get any rice pilaf, roast potatoes, or vegetables, all of which are clearly stated on the menu as accompanying sides. All I got was literally a piece each of tomato, olive, and cucumber. (Was that supposed to be Greek salad???) Dolmathes themselves were extremely salty. This is the best Greek I have found in Vancouver. Better than higher end place on mainland st. This place is fairly casual and cozy. My favourites here include tarama: this is not served at every Greek restaurant and it's even harder to find a restaurant that does it well. not the best I've ever had but still really good. spanakopita: super authentic tasting. Extremely crispy with lots of cheese and herbs yum!! moussaka: good size portion and one of the best I've had. kleftiko: You won't find a better kleftiko in town. A friend and I were looking for a Greek place, saw the 50+ min line down the block and decided to enter into this somewhat of a small restaurant on Davie. Oh boy was it worth it. Now I am a fairly big eater, usually eat my meal and the scraps from the rest of the people eating with me, but this roast lamb almost, yes I say almost go the best of me. We started by trying to order a Greek beer, unfortunately they were out of it, but the server (possible owner) quickly told us they had a better one, now this could have been more expensive beer, I don't really know, the way she pitched the up sale was incredible. Was with there with 2 friends, we ordered the roast lamb (which was tender) and calamari dinner (which wasn't overly battered or greasy). The dishes are a really healthy size & was above average. All your regular greek sides of rice, potatoes, greek salad, etc. Prices are about $5 more a dinner platter than Stephos, but worth the extra cost. Today, on a hot & rushed summer day, I remembered the recommendation of a friend for a calamari lunch special in the Village. So I stopped and was treated to a window seat, a cold draught beer, and calamari so tender that I swear they melted in my mouth. A generous scoop of tzatiki and a fresh Greek salad were presented quickly and immediately appreciated. The space was quiet and clean, affording me a pleasant view of passing pedestrians! The food was excellent, I had the lamb shank and that was so good. Athough, the service was bad. I had to wait for a few minutes to be seated, and when I was, everything was so slow. What really bothered me is that when I ordered a bottled drink, it took very long even though there were only 3-4 other tables, and when I looked the waitress was just chatting with someone at the back, why couldn't she just grab the bottle and then go back to continuing her conversation! During the meal, she never came to ask how the food was or if I wanted any other thing. Gotta update based on my last ekmek tasting (today). Don't know what went wrong today. There was no detectable rum or grand marnier (or any alcohol for that matter), no hint of cloves or honey, and it was covered in canned whipped cream. I was so disappointed!
