We were craving Greek food and have been to other places near us so we decided to go a little further. This place has lots of room, even a dance floor and live band/music. We got there around 6pm and a band came on stage around 7pm. The staff are great, they are energetic, looks like they enjoy working there and friendly. We haven't had calamari for a while so we ordered that as an appy. I ordered the roast lamb and my wife ordered the beef souvlaki. The lamb was tender and well seasoned. The potato and rice were a little bland, not the usual tangy/lemony flavor for the potato. The beef was a little dry but still good. The main dishes came with potato, rice, salad. The pita bread was so soft and moist. It was probably the best one I've had at a greek restaurant. We wanted to eat it all but we had to save room for our food. This is the cutest Greek restaurant in New West! We stopped by for a late dinner (~8:30pm) and were promptly seated. I'm pretty sure we just missed the dinner rush as there were still an influx of customers waiting to be seated and the restaurant looked quite full. On Friday and Saturday nights, Stefanos has a live band starting at 7pm. We were seated right in front of the band and was able to enjoy the music! The atmosphere was lively and the restaurant had patrons from all walks of life who weren't afraid of showing off their moves on the dance floor. Between the 3 of us, we ordered a Dinner Platter #1 ($59) and a Kalamaria Entrée ($24). Each came with rice pilaf, potatoes, and Greek/Caesar salad. For the dinner platter, the highlights for me were the meatballs and moussaka. I'm not usually a fan of ground meat but this was delicious. The chicken souvlaki was on the charred side and was seasoned well. The shrimp was also quite juicy but standard. For the Kalamaria entrée (Calamari), it came with just the body of the squid (no tentacles) - I personally like calamari that have both the body and tentacles, but it wasn't that big of a deal. The squid wasn't tough at all and the batter was thin. The potatoes was flavourful and had more of a lemon-y taste. Out of all the meats, I think the lamb was my least favourite as it had a strong gamey taste. I found that the dishes were super reasonably priced as well -- the three of us were super full after the meal. Waiters were super nice and constantly came around to refill our water. I would definitely revisit this restaurant if I am in New West again! Lastly, if you're not too into loud music, I would recommend sitting further away from the band as it did get quite loud and was hard to hold a conversation. My most recent experience at Stefanos was unfortunaly disappointing. We went there for a company dinner, and for $55-$60 a person, you'd expect a decent sized portion. I wish I took photos but we were so hungry after waiting a good while for our food to come out. The servers were pleasant, but there weren't enough for the amount of people at the restaurant. The food was very disappointing- the appetizer medley was greasy and some of the pastries were burnt. The entrees were delicious, but very small portion. My partner and I use to go to Stefanos 15 to 20 years ago. Six years ago he had a bad fall and now has a brain injury and is in a nursing home. I decided to come for dinner tonight unfortunately on my own but it is exactly how I remember it. The only sad part is he isn't with me but as soon as I walked in it is how I remember it. I came here for lunch and it was quiet on a weekday. The place is huge with a lounge on the ground level and the restaurant above stairs. There is an elevator if you need it. There is also a small area for the band and probably dancing too if you are inclined. Food wise, the lunch menu is definitely much more affordable. I had the prawns and scallops which cost $15 on the lunch menu but $28 for dinner. That is quite a big difference if you are budget conscious. The prawns and scallops tasted ok, not as sweet or flavorful as I would have liked. But then again I noticed most places in Vancouver had this same issue for seafood. The highlight of the meal would be the potato and pita. The potato was amazing - fluffy soft and full of flavor with the lemon. The pita was wonderfully fluffy too, perfect with the tzatziki. I would come back again, but likely for lunch as it is just so much more economical compared to dinner. read more

I'm suprised Stefanos is averaging only 3 stars out of 5. I was pretty impressed by this place. The food itself was delicious. I would give it 4 stars for the food. The roast lamb was tender, moist and seasoned well. The roast potato was cooked well and flavorful. Now the atmosphere and staff is what boosted this place to 5 stars. My friend had her wedding lunch at Stefanos and everything was handled wonderfully. The staff were personable, helpful and full of smiles. They accomodated our group quite at the last minute as well, but everything went smoothly. The wedding took up a little more than half the restaurant on the second floor. We had microphones for speeches and a dance floor for people who want to let loose. Everybody that attended the wedding had a great time. Not a complaint from anyone. read more

Came here for a birthday party. (disclaimer: we had a set menu) Parking is available all the way along Columbia. The restaurant is located on upstairs of the building, so you do have to climb 2 flights of stairs. Something to keep in mind. The interior is quite spacious, the the exposed roof and skylights. Makes the place look quite nice actually. I liked it. The night I was there, they had a live band who played rock classics. They were pretty decent. I had the prawn dinner. These were nice and buttery, but unfortunately the prawns weren't fresh - they tasted like something out of the supermarket. My friends were raving about the quality of the lamb and I tried a piece - this was decent as the meat was nice and tender, and they didn't go crazy with the seasoning. I would recommend the lamb. The feta salad on my plate was decent though. It's nice to know that there are some decent food options in New West. But you may want to think twice about ordering the shrimp here. read more

This restaurant was pretty good - I ordered the lamb chops and it was tasty but my coworkers fish tasted like it was previously frozen. The food is good but not the best greek food I have had. I would have given 5 stars had my coworker not been disappointed. I found the bread not very good either - having just been in greece I expected a little different. Went here once with my boyfriend as we were in the area and wanted to grab a quick bite. We got the Roast Lamb and the Lamb Souvlaki. The lamb on both dishes tasted gamey and was way too tough and chewy. I ate a bite or two before I couldn't stand it anymore. The rest of the food tasted like it was frozen food from the grocery store. Nothing tasted fresh aside from the salad. Came here for dinner ouple of days before Christmas. If you love antique homey decorations, you'll enjoy this place! The ambiance was quite the show. Dim lights, with many props and dolls surrounding the dining area. They also had a dance floor/stage area with disco lights! I had their appetizer platter: spanakopita, meatballs, calamari, and deep fried zucchini. The deep fried zucchini was the best in my opinion, crisp on the outside.m, juicy on the inside. It also came with pits bread and hummus and tzatziki. I then tried the roast lamb. As usually, Greek servings are huge! The rice pilaf is unique, it's tomato based! Frankly, I don't understand some of the critical reviews, but that may be because I never have ordered anything other than their Monday souvlaki specials. At least one Monday a month I get a souvlaki special with extra tzatziki; I've tried their lamb, beef, and chicken, and all are always perfectly cooked and seasoned! The platter that goes with it is fantastic! I always get mine to go since I live so close to the restaurant. The meat, potato, and tzatziki are my favourite parts - everything tastes fresh and vibrant! The portions are consistently generous, and I also really enjoy their rice pilaf and fresh feta in their salad. The only thing I am not wild about is their pitas. I would personally prefer an extra half a potato over plainish pita, but that could be personal preference too. The staff and owner have always been so kind and efficient with getting my orders ready. I've never had to wait more than 15-20 minutes to pick them up or be served in the restaurant the times my friends and I have eaten in. I'll be loyal to this place either as long as they're around or as long as I am. I highly recommend going there on a Monday for their souvlaki especially. ...and ya always gotta get that extra tzatziki! It's the best of the best! I only wish they sold it in bulk ha. read more

Had a great dining experience !! We had dinner with a couple of our friends last night. It was a busy Friday night but we made reservations and we're seated right away. Between 5 of us we had 2 appetizers and 2 dinner platters. The calamari was yummy and wasn't greasy. The mussels were with a simple tomato sauce but sooo good. The platters were huge with a variety of meats, seafood and lots more. The kitchen made a mistake on one of the platters and sure made up for it with an entire plate of goodies. Our 7 year old also gave this place a thumbs up! The most memorable would be the live band, they were amazing. After a long night at work I really felt like having a couple of beers. On my walk home from the skytrain station I passed this restaurant/lounge that I've seen on my daily commute and decided I'd try quenching my thirst there. Finding a seat and a drink was easy, finding someone to stop the loud clingy drunk at the end of the bar was another thing. Out of annoyance I put on my headphones to drown out "Mr I can't hold my liquor", this strategy worked for a short time. When I removed my headphones I was fortunate enough to hear the waitress and bartender regale tales of fights they had with other women. My favorite part was how proud the bartender was when she said "Oh Yeah, I've punched another woman in the back". CLASSY! I'm aware that I'm not Stephanos target audience but listening to the staff talk about their street cred and aggressive behavior accomplishments kinda turns me off from this establishment. What I'm trying to put into words here (very badly I admit) is this place might look classy but looks are not what they always appear. I went here with a friend after she raved about it and how great it was. I ordered the Seafood Linguini which boasted shrimp and scallops in a white sauce. I'm not really sure what I was expecting. Perhaps a little ummmph?!! It was flat, dull, and like many ''alfredo'' or ''white'' sauces it tasted like something cranked open and dumped out of a can. I did not taste fresh pasta or a burst of flavour. There was no dill, no twist of lemon, NO SOMETHING SOMETHING ANYTHING that made me think: WOW, this plate is worth the $20+ with tax and tip that I'm paying! The seafood ''morsels'' were also lacking and seemed heated in a microwave or just boiled unamusingly, unlovingly cast into this forsaken pool of dull white mess. Looking for a late night option with good quality food, look no further. During Friday/Saturdays they have love music so make sure to book ahead. Draft off the tap is cold and carbonated (slower places have horrible lines that alter the flavour and quality). Ordered the mixed souvlaki about an hour before they closed. I have to say that the roast lamb was extremely tender and had a great flavor to it. I also got to try the calamari and it was also crispy and not at all rubbery! and for a party of 60, the food came out quickly and smoothly after all that was said and done :) The band played some of my favorite old school jams. We were a fairly large group, but from the time we sat down to the time the food arrived was over 90 minutes. We had a reservation several weeks in advance. The food was ok, although the rice was not very appealing. The portion size was decent for the price. Parking is limited, but there is pay parking on the street. The salad and the pita bead were good, but the tzatziki was not as good as store bought. The server was impatient and condescending to one of my colleagues while she was explaining her dietary restrictions. However, the Christmas decorations were very nice. I have been going to this restaurant for the last few years during work functions and it always has been consistently good. I would not call it an awesome restaurant but they delivery a good product. I typically get either the Roast Lamb or Chicken Souvlaki and have left satisfied every time. Even at this hour, we had to wait for a table; however, we got to wait downstairs in the bar and the server called us up when our table was ready. I got the salmon and my boyfriend got the rib and chicken combo. Everything was good. The portions were huge for the price, and we will be having leftovers for breakfast. Service was awesome.
