I love Greek food, and I've dined here twice now. My son is quite picky, but this has become his favourite spot lately - which says a lot. It's looks renovated and fresh so we decided to try it as it brought back the Memories of the movie My Greek wedding . ... which essentially made the Greeks progressing as invisible minority to a visible minority , hiding in the shadows if ashamed of their heritage as Greek influence as declined these last 2000 or more years ... I came to the Sfinaki Taverna for dinner. This restaurant has an amazing Greek decor, it seems that you are in Greece. Their customer service is fabulous, the waitress was wonderful and she was super helpful. We ordered the calamari as a starter. The calamari was delicious, the spices were really good and it was fresh. The chicken gyro as the main dish was incredible delicious and it came with fries as a perfect combination. It was so really good. I wish to see more options but the options that they have, it was really good. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

The customer service was great, food was ok. I truly enjoyed the pita, it came out hot and buttery. I ordered the lamb, calamari which was bland and combo seafood skewers. Scallops and shrimp were delicious but the veggies were tasteless. I'd give them another try. It's a very intimate spot. Pretty clean from what I could tell and walking distance from my hotel. The food is amazing!! The service is great, staff is friendly and helpful. New location is bright and lovely.... except.... The noise level is just too high. I think there was not enough sound absorption material factored into the new location construction. It is clean and lean, with high ceilings, but there's nothing that helps damper the incredibly high noise. People cannot speak with others sitting across the same table without shouting. Pretty good! I was surprised how their mains were quite pricey but glad I came for dinner! The Lamb souvlaki was delicious! The 2 skewers of meat were not overdone at all like some other places. The rice and potato were cooked and seasoned to perfect The portions are not as big at other Greek places but I would say the quality is there! Loved both dishes - the lamb skewer and the prawns, although my friend thought the butter sauce the prawns were in was a little too salty, I had a glass of retsina too, just house variety but very nice - not too woody. People seem to like Socrates, about 6 blocks east of Sfinaki but as of today I'd give the nod to Sfinaki and want to return for a full meal. read more

So far, this has to be the best Greek Restaurant I have ever been to. I have been to quite a few Greek Restaurants in and around Vancouver or near Vancouver. I tried their Moussaka. I'm always on the go and work long hours so I usually just make simple foods at home and it never feels like a home cooked meal. Like you make food at home but it's not always that "home cooked meal" feel. It felt like the comfort of a home cooked meal. I ordered the Moussaka at other Restaurants. I really don't know what I was eating at those other places. Whatever I was eating was not Moussaka but at Sfinaki, now that was Moussaka. The Presentation of food was amazing. I really liked that they served the Greek Salad prior to the main dish so the wait time for the food was not long. By the time I finished my Greek Salad they were serving my Moussaka. Now for the Moussaka. The perfect portion, the perfect balance and blend of spices. It truly tasted like authentic Greek Moussaka. I cannot have Moussaka anywhere else. If there is some kind of award that be given I'd call the award "Home of the best Moussaka" and that award rightfully belongs to Sfinaki. read more

Post lockdown review: I quite enjoy the $10 gyro and fries lunch special to go. These guys have really been trying hard to adapt to this lock down and pandemic and they have new specials posted. And I do commend them for it. For a few months they were just take out and it seems that they have now reopened the dining room. They have a large dine in room so it is easier to socially distance. You can see their specials posted everyday in a big board at the front. For $10 you can't beat their Happy Hour/Lunch Special Gyro with fries. read more

I came because i had an entertainment coupon but was sad to find out that they didn't accept the online/phone redemption so ended up paying full price which was quite high for lunch. At 15 dollars an entree, we tried their moussaka and the chicken souvlaki. Both came with rice pilaf, greek salad and potatoes with some pita bread on the side. Everything was pretty good especially the chicken (nice and tender) and the moussaka (very creamy and tasted great) but the portions were way too small for the prices they charge. I'm always a sucker for decent Greek food. Add this place to my list. Parking is available along Hastings as well as the side streets. The inside looks like some mythical garden, with plenty of plants everywhere. The waitress was very friendly and professional. Special mention here. Lunch is a bit on the pricey side, at $14 or so for most platters. Nothing too surprising though. Our lunch platters came with pita bread, which were nice and shiny (read: oil). A bit bland, but nothing some tzatziki couldn't fix. Overall my lamb souvlaki was quite tasty. The greek salad was heavier on the tomatoes than other places, but this is not a bad thing. Great choice in Burnaby Heights. We were a group of 12 coming from all parts of Lower Mainland. Our server was excellent. Food choices included lamb shoulder roast, gyros, lamb and chicken souvlaki were enjoyed by all. Greek salad could do with some improvement and Gyro lamb meat was disappointing but still enjoyed. My first time there... service was not great, had to ask for plates, ice for the warm water served, they ran out of glasses.. the tiniest side salad served in a finger bowl and it was mushy. The worst part though was the attitude from staff because my dinner date did not like their calamari ... she did not ask for a refund or a fuss . Don't know why the server ran back to get the manager.... she did not help. They did take it off the bill but it was so awkward. She felt embarrassed after that. It's a solid pass for me. Fresh, full pieces of almonds, and home-made. Went for to go and smart how they packed the honey separately. But the real favourite, a new one, is the Bougatsa: a flakey filo with a solid vanilla custard. Add the white frosting & whipped cream, now I'm hooked. The decor itself is gorgeous: definitively date material or celebration. Liked the private table right at the front as per pic. Pretty romantic. Saw a sign celebrating their 20th anniversary. My Experience: The first time me and a couple of people tried to go here we left after twenty minutes of not being seated (three tables occupied out of like twenty and they had four waitresses). The second time me and another person tried to go here we were seated in a reasonable time. I had ordered the grilled chicken breast ($20) and the other person ordered the lamb-chops meal ($23); in addition we ordered the Calamari dinner to go ($19). We all got a greek salad; nothing special and fairly average. We got a pita to share between our two meals but for some reason the takeout calamari got a whole pita to itself. The lamb-chops meal came with fractional pieces of lamb-chops, half a potato and a cup of rice. Meal was cooked to perfection; however it was a smaller than normal portion. The grilled chicken breast meal came with a half-of-chicken-breast (like sliced in half), half a potato and a cup of rice. Meal was cooked to perfection; however it was a smaller than normal portion. The calamari dinner meal came with an amazing amount of fried squid, a full potato and about two cups of rice. The calamari even though was tasty, unfortunately was cooked with a long piece of hair that connected four calamari pieces together. While dinning inside I noticed that none of the cooking staff had any hair-nets on; which probably explains the long hair in the calamari. The decor was nice but filthy with dust. I would suggest on cutting down on the decor if cleanliness cannot be bothered with. Like other yelpers have noted; your arms do stick to the tables. My fiancé and I were craving Greek food and wanted to use a coupon from our Entertainment Book before it expired, so we decided on Sfinaki. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we felt it would be a good experience. The restaurant gives you a very authentic Greek vibe. We waited just under a minute to be seated and sat at the table by the front window. It was freezing there! I kept my jacket on the whole time. We didn't take long to decide what we wanted but we waited a long time to be asked if we were ready to order. I timed it: we waited a whole 6 minutes. As we waited for our order to be taken, I swatted away fruit flies. I wasn't impressed. After our order was finally taken (we both ordered the Chicken Souvlaki), it didn't take too long for our Greek salad to come. It was alright, nothing impressive. When our main came, we noticed that our server was someone new. Not sure why we ended up with a new server but our previous one never came back. As for the food, the main was fine. Again, nothing out of this world. The mains were $18 each. Without the coupon, it wouldn't have been worth it. Thanks to the slow service and just mediocre food, we won't be back. read more

When someone mentions Greek cuisine, this is one of those restaurants that comes to mind. I have been coming for years, all due to the help of the Entertainment book. The place has, from what one of the servers said, been around for 15 years, and has always had good food. The service has always been very personable, and true, as it is a family run business. The food is the star of the show, everything from their roast lamb, their baked chicken (this thing keeps me coming back), and the mousaka (if I am spelling this right) is done right. Nothing over sized, but a plenty in portion, and on the menu, variety. The place is cozy, with some newer furniture from the chairs, to the candles on the table, but it does have that family classic feel, like sitting at the table, noticing that the candle lit at our table was being held by a classic Cambpell's soup mug from way back in my time was a nice touch. The prices are reasonable, the setting is nice with your friends or your date, the service is great, and the food is top notch, this place has my stamp of approval! read more

The Bad: restaurant is dirty (the bathrooms are a horror show of germs and health code violations), the service was truly awful, (every table in the place was left piled with dirty dishes despite two staff members and three active tables), and the food was gross. Day old chicken souvlaki, rancid tzatziki, cold rice, and lamb that tasted like it had been dragged behind a rusty old car for a week. The Ugly: both my dinner companion and I were very, very ill the same evening and all through the next day. Based on a friend's recommendation, I tried this place out. Upon stepping inside, the layout and decor reminded me of Stepho's. I had their regular Gyro (which I always mispronounce) which came with greek salad, rice, and other stuff I can't remember. The Gyro was sizeable and was a mix of beef and lamb and had a ton of taziki sauce (a bit too much), but It was satisfying. Based on food alone I would have given it 3 stars as it is decent Greek food, but not spectacularly unique. I give it 4 stars as they have probably some of the best (and most attractive) servers I've had in ages. One recommended that I try Loukoumades (Greek Honey Balls). But according to her no one makes them in town, except at the Greek Festival on W 4th. read more
