Terrible. Queso was so salty it was inedible. Chilaquiles were barely warm. Tacos with carnitas were basically the same as Chipotle, which is to say not very good. Margaritas were ok, but very expensive for a small size with no noticeable alcohol. The outdoor seating is pleasant, and might be a good spot for Happy Hour when drinks are cheaper. They weren't very busy on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Pgh, which leads me to believe the word might already be out on this poorly conceived spot in Bakery Square. read more

I wanted to give no stars but I couldn't. I went to Tako Tôrtä for happy hour this evening and had the worst experience. I used to go to Tako Torta every Friday. I haven't been there in a while. The last time I was there was a month ago and the bartenders had changed and were not as good as the old crew. Tonight my margarita was fine, but not great. I ordered guacamole and after 15 minutes I asked for it and finally got it. I had ordered nachos at the same time and after 25 minutes of waiting I asked about them. I then said I wanted to cancel the nacho order because I would be leaving soon. I said to the bartender that I didn't expect it to take so long and she said "neither did I" but no apology or saying she would see what was going on. After a little bit I asked for my check and my friend asked why others got their food so quickly when we never got ours. She said that the nachos had just come out and the order said it was put in at 4:55 but she put it in earlier. I was so surprised that the nachos came out and we were not asked if we wanted them. She said that we had cancelled them so she sent them back. I said that I would have taken them home with me if I knew. She finally said Sorry but that did not make anything better. I was planning on going there tomorrow night for my birthday but I will not return. So sad that all the great bartenders have moved on and the service has gone downhill. There should be more training of staff to know how to treat a customer. read more

This review pains me to leave, but as a top-fan of the downtown location (e.g. bring out of town guests there, celebrate milestones there) and a neighbor to Bakery Square, Tako Torta falls flat. Pros: The space is great, the outdoor patio is an asset to Bakery Square, the happy hour is pretty good and the bar staff is attentive. Cons: The prices parallel that of the downtown location, but the quality does not. For instance, $15+ for two tacos where the main ingredients are continually cold (is criminal), $7 for a Corona Lite (why?!), and paying $12+ for cocktails and shots in plastic (is absolutely infuriating and offensive). read more

I was unimpressed with the addition of Tako Torta to Bakery Square. First I had no idea that there were no servers and you had to order your food at a window and pick it up. Then there is a separate bar area for drinks. People coming in where standing around for a hostess to seat them. Then there was confusion if we clean our trays off the table. I also found the food not to be as good as the original. The chips that came with the guacamole were in a bag and stale. And you're still paying high prices. Have been eagerly waiting for Tako Bakery Square to open as I have a been a fan of their original location! Came here on a Friday night and no reservations are needed which is a nice change from the downtown location. This Tako has a much more fast casual vibe as you order at the counter, get a text when food is ready to pick up, and seat yourself. The location is great with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Even on a Friday evening we were still able to get seats. My friend and I both ordered the bowls. I had a rice bowl with chorizo, patatas bravas, street corn, black beans, cabbage slaw, serrano peppers, pico, and cilantro lime vinaigrette. They text you when your food is ready. We then got drinks at the bar area. The bowl was delicious! The cilantro lime vinaigrette went well with the bowl. It felt like an elevated chipotle bowl as the individual components were well made. Price is on the higher side as the bowls start at $20. The drinks were great as well. Overall, a nice addition to the Bakery Square area. Pros of this location are that no reservations are needed and there is free parking in the bakery square garage for the first 2-3 hours. Cons are prices are on the higher side for a fast casual style restaurant. read more

I stopped by Torta to enjoy a celebratory drink after a great day at work. Unfortunately none of my friends could join but you wouldn't know that based off of my experience at the bar. Alex the bartender was so quick to be attentive and ask me about my day. He made me the best margarita I've ever had and I think the service was the best ingredient. Manon the manager was absolutely incredible. She explained the menu and the drinks with such enthusiasm and detail that it was clear she was describing her favorite things. I was going to give this place a lower rating after our first visit, but our second visit turned things around so hear me out. It was refreshing to see a business actually take constructive feedback and make changes for the better. Our first visit we were told that they could make chicken and cheese tacos for kids- no problem. Upon ordering tacos with literally JUST chicken and cheese for our 2 year old, they charged me $18! I think the manager felt bad because when I questioned it he took off $3, but still, $15 for a meal that my toddler will likely take two bites of is too much. The regular prices for everything else were on par with the tako downtown, however tako Torta doesn't provide wait staff for the tables and is a more casual "order at the counter" sort of deal. In my opinion, the prices needed to better reflect the more informal atmosphere. The second time we came back, they had lowered prices and had a full on kids menu. Win-win. Drinks are great, the bowls are tasty and have amazing options for customization (think chipotle bowl but 100x better), and the chips and salsa are always excellent. We especially love that they offer heated outdoor seating that's Covid friendly. read more

Not the biggest fan! Second time here. Set up a little weird. Queso was very thick. Almost glue like. No flavor! Chips are fried old tortillas that were very hard. Salsa left a lot to be desired. Very thick (tomato paste?) in appearance and taste. Maragaritas very run of the mill. Not scratch made with fresh ingredients. Tacos pricey and a bit boring. Lots of other establishments around the city that serve great Mexican food. Don't waste your time here. read more

Spent $32 (including tip) for 2 fish tacos & a side of street corn, which to start was just a really poor value. Each taco included a tiny sliver of fish breaded to hell & back to make it look like a chunk of fish, then fried & topped with a handful of chopped cabbage & a spoon of sauce. The freshly-made taco shell itself was the best part of this dish. The street corn was made with tough, gummy yellow corn that didn't appear to be grilled at all & was barely edible. This is a Mexican food place for people who don't know what Mexican food really is. Hugely disappointed in the taste, the quality and even the service. And the prices are just out of sight for Mexican food... Let's try $14 for two tacos, and if you want extra salsa it's going to cost you another seven dollars! We tried a torta, an order of mushroom tacos and an order of Carnitas tacos, and some chili con queso. None of us were doing cartwheels over anything. The tortillas have too much oil in them, leaving them with sort of a pasty texture. They only give you one tortilla for each taco, but we would advise not buying extra tortillas because they simply don't taste very good. We would advise passing on the chili con queso as well. They use something called EZ-Melt in it, and rather than being creamy, the queso tastes like it has cream cheese in it... But they said it doesn't have any cream cheese in it. Of course it doesn't seem to have any tomatoes, or fresh peppers in it either. All one big disappointment. Save yourself some money and grief: Chipotle is better. read more

I have eaten at the Tako on 6th street downtown which was excellent; good service, a nice variety of items on the menu & great service. This location is the total opposite. The menu has a limited selection & some items such as the daily specials on the white board, were not available. Service, if you want to call it that, is similar to McDonald's. You order at the counter from a disinterested person with no knowledge of the menu items, then you have a seat and they text you when your order is ready for pick up from a numbered box next to the kitchen. The food was not that great, very little flavor. In fact the only flavor came from the sauces. Their definition of Mexican street corn is unlike any I have ever had before and it was not that good. My wrap was even worse. Flavorless chicken in a tortilla that had the taste and consistency of construction paper. The queso was not bad. Their tagline of "authentic Mexican food " is an insult to the country. Save your money & eat elsewhere. read more
