We came here for dinner on a Friday and it was pretty empty. We ordered the sushi sashimi set and the small set which included udon, tonkatsu, inari, salad. Most of the fish were good. Salmon was the best, but I did eat a fishy piece. It's a hit or miss I guess. The rice didn't have that nice fluffy texture or rice vinegar flavor most other sushi restaurants have. The udon soup was nice and light. The tonkatsu was probably the best part. It was battered and fried perfectly without being oily. The service was good and ambiance is casual.
My husband and I were impressed with the amazing food! This place is what you'd expect from an izakaya, minus the yakitori: a great selection of beer and food at a fair and affordable price! We went for lunch on a Sunday but it was pretty empty, so service was quick and the staff was friendly. It was nothing fancy, but the furniture was old (table and high chair were sticky), although I did appreciate some of the decor hanging on the walls. We've already decided we'd come back! They also validate for free parking in the garage.
Cheap sushi!! It won't be the most mind blowing sushi but if you're looking to satisfy a craving, this is the place to go. Sushi is $1.50 a piece and you fill out a paper menu of what sushi you want and how many pieces! You can also pick from their menu and predetermined sets. The people who work here are extremely nice and the place is decorated quite homey. This is a great cheap place for japanese food.
My husband and I have been visiting Takohachi for the past couple of years, and it's a consistently lovely and relaxing spot to enjoy genuinely satisfying Japanese food. While we often choose the ramen, which is always excellent, I recently had the bento set again--one of my favorites on the menu that offers great variety. The service is always dependable and superb. There is a kind gentleman who usually serves us and makes the dining experience pleasant and attentive every time.
To start the service is amazing. They are so kind and welcoming. The environment is so cute, it's lower lighting but still can see things very well. And the food is absolutely amazing, priced great and tastes great too. It's right below an apartment building and parking tickets are validated. Absolutely love this place. And to add really quick food service.
I've come here twice and at most currently it's about average for me, nothing bad and considering the price I paid for a whole meal and some change to take away for under $30 (which now a days feels like a steal)! There are multiple menus but I went for nigiri pieces, their small curry udon special, and croquettes. With the curry udon special it came with udon, curry, and a salad. The food was average - but I will say for the price getting sushi pieces for $1.50 is honestly unbeatable. I do love how cute the menus are with their drawings! If their food quality increases this spot will definitely end up more popular :) Service is good- every time I've come here it's always been pretty casual, quiet, and not busy at all! They did upgrade their interior recently to a new design but still feels like a pretty hole in the wall, mom/pop shop at times.
Food: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10 First off I love sushi and one thing about Arlington, VA is that they have a lot of good sushi options. This place is in my top 10 when it comes to sushi. We started off with dumplings and tempura appetizers. The dumplings had great flavor and the soy sauce based sauce complimented it very well. The tempura was light and airy. Sometimes with fried foods you get that mouth feel of grease. But that wasn't the case for this. In the tempura appetizer you get: shrimp and an assortment of vegetables that are tempura fried. All is delicious and nothing was too heavy. My friend got the tonkatsu pork. She enjoyed it very much. I other hand got sushi. The sushi was very fresh and well prepared. I like that they have an assortment of regular rolls and signature rolls to choose from. Lastly we rounded off our dinner with dango!!! It was light, chewy and warm. Very delicious and not overly sweet. It also paired nicely with the vanilla ice cream!
This sushi is so delicious - and one of my favorite things is that the portion sizes are wonderful for to-go orders (check out my photos)! Everything tasted flavorful and fresh. Although I've only ordered to-go, the ambiance of the interior is cute and clean, and at some point I'm sure I will dine in. I've also never had an issue with service, at least for take out orders. Can't wait to keep ordering sushi from here!
Our waitress was awesome, and I really appreciate her recommendations. Our food was very good-- especially the meat wrapped scallions. I would not say this is the best restaurant on my vacation, but it was a good experience and I would go back and try other dishes. That's definitely a win.
I was having serious withdrawals from eating delicious Japanese food often in Hawaii and needed a fix. Takohachi has been on my radar for ages so figured I'd try an order to go of the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura dish with udon noodles. It was very good, not the best I've had, but hit the spot. Service was so nice when I arrived, she actually asked me how my day was going so far with a kind smile. I was so thrown off because customer service these days are usually so cold and automated, I felt sad that it was a weekday and the restaurant was totally empty. The ambiance is really cute and cozy and it's unexpectedly very large inside. Next time I look forward to trying the Japanese curry rice dish!
Micro Delivery Review - ordered food through Uber Eats. The packaging was fine on the outside. I really enjoyed the sushi and I liked that it came with a good portion of wasabi, but I will say I was disappointed that my tempura sauce had leaked before I even had the chance to use it, it had soaked into the vegetables, unsure if this was the restaurant or Uber eats fault. I did want to leave this review though because I actually enjoyed the food and I enjoyed the price for the fish to rice rice ratio.
I was visiting DC and had to make the visit out here for the $1.50/piece sushi. It's actually not too far from DC and we ended up finding street parking but apparently you can park in the plaza's garage and get the parking waived for dining here. The menu for $1.50/piece nigiri is so worth it. They have a good variety ranging from tuna to salmon belly to sweet shrimp and raw scallop, which is my absolute favorite. They even have uni for $2.50 and salmon roe for $2. Although the photos on this page looked good, I was still skeptical at whether the quality of the fish would actually be good considering the price and somehow, they managed to keep the quality pretty good. I was actually surprised at the quality of the pieces I got. Of course, it's not going to be omakase level or anything, but it was still fresh and at a decent size. After our first round, both my fiancé and I ended up putting in another order for more! We enjoyed almost all the pieces that we got, and we tried a good variety from the menu too. The crawfish salad was surprisingly tasty, something I've never had in sushi before. And the uni was nice and creamy, not grimy. The only one that we both agreed wasn't the best was the salmon roe, which was a bit saltier than what we prefer. In my opinion, I think it's 100% worth the visit. For only $1.50 a piece (and $2.50 at most), it's so affordable and they have a selection that I've never seen elsewhere at such a good price. Also, they offer this ALL DAY!
I've been meaning to try Takohachi for ages because of their $1 nigiri deal and even thought it's been raised to $1.50 (understandable due to inflation), the sushi's quality still exceeds the price. For the most part, we got reasonably portioned fresh fish that tasted amazing with well-seasoned rice. I appreciated that the menu even included options, such as salmon belly and yellowtail belly, that I don't often see at other places. The only one I would not recommend is their uni. Although uni is one of my all-time favorite foods, theirs tastes like bad seawater and is a testament to receiving high caliber ingredients for an extremely low price. I will definitely be back though and am looking forward to try more of their numerous items, such as their mackerel and masago.
I think this place is still experiencing growing pains, and I do intend to come back in a couple weeks to see if they've worked out the kinks. Three of us came on a Friday night. It was reasonably packed. It may have been a combination of that and some short-staffing issues, but it took more than 15 minutes for anyone to come by our table to ask if we needed anything. Hungry pregnant lady (me) started getting a bit hangry. It didn't help my mood when I saw someone else who arrived after us get their order taken before us. We were also placed at a table close to the door, which during this time of year was uncomfortable every time the door opened. One thing that drew us into trying the restaurant out was others' reviews about all day $1 nigiri. That's an amazing deal. Unfortunately I can't have raw sushi right now due to the pregnancy, but I ordered tamago and a seared salmon roll. Additionally, we had chicken karage, tonkotsu ramen, and a tonkatsu dish. Sushi: It was a good sized piece of tamago, but both that and the seared salmon tasted warm as opposed to the cool refreshing sushi you hope for. BUT, for the price, it will do the trick. Ramen: it was a giant bowl of pretty adequate but not remarkable ramen. The chashu wasn't the best I've ever had. Tonkatsu: My husband was pleased that it came with a potato salad, but he wished it came with a sauce like tonkatsu sauce. Karage: Not greasy and very good. In all, this is a middle of the road Japanese restaurant. Prices are very reasonable for the area. You're not going to get 'fake' Japanese food, but you also won't necessarily get the most exquisite cuisine ever. Perhaps the food quality and service will change as they get their groove going. read more

There's a parking lot underneath this tunnel looking area where Starbucks, some gym, and Giant are. When we left the gentleman asked us if we drove so he could validate our parking. That day the gates were up so we didn't need it. Food was pretty good. Yummy takoyaki, and nigiri ($1.50). Husband didn't like uni and I thought it didn't taste the most fresh either. Scallop nigiri had no taste but eh. The rolls were pretty good. We definitely liked sweetheart better than the wasabi roll. My husband liked his udon, but didn't think the broth was amazing so he didn't drink it. I got the spicy miso ramen which definitely had a little kick to it. The egg was just an egg sadly. It wasn't seasoned and it wasn't soft boiled. Huge portion though and lots of noodles. Interesting tasting broth. Different from any other spicy miso ramen broth I've had. I probably wouldn't get it again next time. Had 2.5 small pieces of pork. The dango was pretty disappointing as the sauce was cold/firm and not liquidy like it should be. Matcha ice cream was nice. Attentive server and clean place. I would go back for the $1.50 nigiri and rolls! read more
This review is for the $1 nigiri only - honestly what more can you ask for when paying that price?! Definitely can't complain with the $1 deal which is available every day. Great variety to choose from and overall very filling. The quality of the nigiri is well worth it for $1 a piece - if you're expecting more then this is not the place for you :-) I haven't tried anything else from this place yet but don't intend to do so since you're better off spending most of your money on the nigiri. Overall the service was great (was pretty light on a Wednesday around 7) and $1 nigiri deal is unmatched. read more
What can I say for $1 sushi?!?! I'm not even dead. Sure it's run by Thai folks, but they do a good job. I enjoyed all of the sushi but was impressed with the FRESH WASABI. That's so hard to come by. Their salmon jaw and barracuda was on point. Their rice was a little chewy and not quite short grain enough, but definitely still good. Will be back! read more

I came here for happy hour with a friend and I wish I knew about this place sooner! They have a great menu of $1 nigiri. I'm obsessed with uni and quail eggs and that was on their dollar menu! $1 uni, $1 quail egg = $2 total - you bet I was ordering that all night long. I also tried their Sashimi Regular, which came with miso soup and rice, and although the uni and quail egg nigiri got more of my attention, this dish wasn't bad. The restaurant is small, I would estimate about 30 seats total? It got kind of busy when we were there as people trickled in for dinner and the service started slacking because there was only 1 waiter working. But that's ok! I would definitely come back for their $1 nigiri menu! read more

Nice little Japanese restaurant in my neighborhood. This was my first visit and was recommended by several neighbors on our list serve. The service was fast, the sushi was was fresh and sized perfectly. I really dislike nigiri that is so large that you gave to bite it. The meal was a bargain, with the nigiri at $1 per piece. This is going to be our go-to dinner out place. read more

The best nigiri deal in town! Dollar nigiri all day every day. And they are regular sized unlike other places that have dollar nigiri specials. My bf and I come here often and just order a ton of nigiri pieces and have a sushi feast. Also just found out they have a $7 poke bowl that looks really good. The small braised pork belly rice bowl at $4 is also a great deal and super delicious. I have to minus a star because a couple of other items on the menu that I've tried such as the udon have not been good. The restaurant is also not the cleanest. read more

The sushi and nigiri was pretty tasty. My rice dish was okay I probably wouldn't order again but it was very savory with lotssss of rice. Very filling for the great lunch special deals. The service was subpar. Waitresses ignore people not sure why. Maybe you get better service at the bar who knows. read more

More of a 3.5 but I rounded up because you gotta admit, $1 nigiri is WORTH. That being said, I did overall enjoy the experience! Service was friendly and fast, and the food came out fast as well. The nigiri was a good portion and tasted actually quite good! My bf said it wasn't the absolute freshest fish you'll ever eat, but it was still delicious and they had great variety! You could totally just order a shitton of nigiri and that'd be your meal, but since it was my first time I wanted to try some other items on the entree menu. My bf got the chicken teriyaki and I got the shrimp and vegetable tempura. Teriyaki sauce was what'd you'd expect, sweet, delicious, and quite addicting not gonna lie. My tempura though...I was very pleasantly surprised by how authentic the tempura batter was. It was perfectly crispy and coated on the shrimp/veggies lightly. I hate seeing tempura that was drowned in the batter and end ups becoming thick, chewing, and honestly just greasy and gross. This did not disappoint! Ok now for the stars off, that was because of the spider roll. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT ORDER IT. Unless you actually like mushy crabs with a slight fishy scent??? It didn't taste the freshest and soft shell fried crab was supposed to be slightly crisp...but it was just super soggy and tasted really off. Maybe it was a bad day, but I couldn't eat more than 2 rolls before I felt sick looking at it. Anywho, I really loved everything else and I left the restaurant super full and happy, swinging my bag of leftovers on my way back to the car (the portions are quite generous here! Now I have lunch for tomorrow hehe). I live in Fairfax and it was definitely worth the drive out! I would definitely come back to try the lunch bento deal Bc it looked worth the money and the nigiri was satisfying! read more

I try to keep it as a hidden gem but I must share it! I LOVE this place. $1 nigiri and the quality is awesome! I highly recommend getting the salmon belly, eel, and the sea urchin! The staff here is really nice and the appetizers are great as well! Agedashi tofu and takoyaki is a must try! Noted that they're relocated sometime soon closer to DC. They also do takeout on the $1 nigiri :) read more
Like all the reviews say, $1 nigiri all day everyday but no Happy Hour specials. I have been here several times to dine in and yes, because the nigiri is so cheap the portions are a bit smaller than normal sushi restaurants. I wouldn't say it's half the portion, but it is noticeably smaller. I didn't notice how small they were until I ordered nigiri to go. At the restaurant it doesn't seem so small because they are spaced out on a plate. But in a to-go container? 16 pieces of nigiri fit inside 1 container. Even with the small pieces it's still the best deal in the area for cheap nigiri :) read more

Dollar nigiri? What's not to love? Actually, there's so much more to love. The prices are really affordable here so it's easy to get carried away trying the specials. My sushi order usually includes uni, surf clam, a mix of salmons and tunas, the grilled eel rice bowl, agedashi tofu, takoyaki, the meatball soup... And I had never tried dango before coming here, but that was delicious too. It's like sweet balls of mochi served with ice cream.. I guess I just love it all! This place is simple and isn't fancy, so its an easy (casual) dinner whenever I'm craving some sushi! read more

Let me start off with this....$1 NIGIRI. ALL DAY. EVERY DAY. When I heard about the $1 nigiri special, I was skeptical. Was it only during lunch? Was this a special that ended? Do they only have a few options? Nopers to all. We went on a Wednesday night for dinner and were able to get seated right away for a table of 3. We ordered all types of nigiri..salmon, salmon belly, eel, white tuna, different fish eggs, and UNI.. i mean.. come on, Uni for $1?! Yes, the pieces are slightly smaller than what you'd get for paying $2.50+ a piece at other places.. but not by much. It's nice to have the option of variety without having to pay for like a boat of sushi. Our table also ordered a few other things: - Slow cooked pork knuckle appetizer (I don't remember the exact name): Soo tender! It got a little too salty after a few bites, but it was still good. - Grilled pork skewer: I didn't try this.. it looked good, but everyone that tried it says it was mostly fat. - Paratha with green tea ice cream: Delish!! The green tea ice cream tasted better/slightly different than most green tea ice creams I tried. The paratha bread was like a crunchier, flakier version of a roti.. really crispy and light. Also had red beans with the paratha. The service was also really good. So glad I stopped by here and I hope they continue the $1 nigiri special. Highly recommend! read more

Loveee their dollar nigiri!! My boyfriend and I are regulars and we're never disappointed! The sushi always satisfies our cravings (especially uni cravings!) and the price can't be beat! You MUST try their meatball soup! Who knew such simple cabbage soup could taste so good! Don't forget the takoyaki and fried tofu app! If you love uni too, try it with the quail egg yolk! Yummm! As for the staff, they're always quick and very nice! I've been here a lot and I never have anything to complain about. read more
$1 nigiri all day every day. Not a typo. Not for HH. All day. The price as well as the fact that it's tucked away in a little hole in the wall off Columbia pike had me a little sketched out on the quality of the fish but every time I've gone I've been very happy with how surprisingly fresh it is. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 star rating is because the service is hit or miss, but I would definitely recommend for anyone living in the Arlington area. I've even made the trek over since moving to dc on a lazy Sunday. You can't really go wrong with any of the selections but one thing to note with the specialty rolls is that unless noted with an asterisk, they only come with 5 pieces! The rolls marked with asterisk come with 8, and the regular rolls are 6. read more
You can't go wrong with $1 nigiri sushi that's available all day - yes, ALL DAY! Takohachi is a fairly new restaurant that offers a spectacular deal for sushi lovers. The restaurant is very simple and located in a small shopping strip. My friend and I stopped by for dinner during the weekday. Our server was pleasant and took our first order pretty quickly. With the awesome deal, I took advantage of trying out their nigiri menu including salmon, yellowtail, salmon belly, yellowtail belly, squid, octopus, sweet shrimp, and more! While the nigiri sizes were smaller compared to other sushi restaurants, the fish was actually quite fresh and tasty! Definitely a deal that can't be beat. My favorites included their yellowtail belly and salmon belly. The restaurant got busier after we placed our first order and unfortunately, the service slowed down tremendously. My friend and I placed our second order and after about 30 minutes of waiting, were informed that it would take much longer than expected. We ended up cancelling the order to save ourselves the time and energy of waiting. Overall, Takohachi has some areas to work on, but that is expected of every new restaurant. I stress the fact that their deal is almost too good to be true! Take advantage of it while it's available! read more

We've been here a few times now and I'm really getting into it. They have an expansive dollar sushi menu to pick from, so you can enjoy most of your favorites. They also have some good rice bowls. We got the unagi bowl which is small, but a tasty inexpensive snack. Overall, this is a great neighborhood sushi joint. It's not the best, but that isn't what it's trying to be. It's an approachable and reasonably priced sushi restaurant, I can't wait to return. read more

They have increased the price of the nigiri to $1.50 from $1. I think this happened about a year ago.
