I've never posted a food review but felt like this was needed. After having a really good day, I craved sushi and I called up Takohachi for the first time and asked them if they could make me a platter for $35. For just $35 they gave me 25 pieces of Nigiri, one 6 piece california roll, one serving of Chicken Karage, miso soup and matcha Mochi. The food was fantastic with the biggest highlight being the Karage. The sushi was delicious and fresh. However my favorite part of the meal was their customer service. After I told them I had a great day, I was met with cheerfulness on the other end and surprised with a fantastic meal and a little message on the Mochi box. Will definitely be coming back here soon and you should definitely check this place out. read more

Yes, this place is appealing for their $1 nigiri. Don't expect fat cuts of fish, but for its price, I think it tastes great! The first time I was here, they were out of uni. I was happy that I could order some last night! You won't find any advertisement for the $1 nigiri deal on their website. When you go in, there is a slip of paper to order from the $1 nigiri menu. It does take a while for them to prepare the nigiri so be mindful of that, or order an appetizer while you wait. This time around, we did order some appetizers the chicken karaage and negima (pork belly skewers). The chicken karaage was fine... but there was no sauce for it? Surprisingly wasn't busy on a Saturday night?? The $1 nigiri is such a great deal. Better than eating at a sushi buffet like Sushi King!! Service was excellent. They made sure we were okay. Sushi takes a while if you order a lot, but you can always order more later. Started off with the takoyaki and tuna tartar with kale tempura which both were SO GOOD. And cheap!!! The nigiri were a little smaller than usual. They tasted good but you can tell they're not the BEST quality but makes sense for $1 nigiri. The one I didn't enjoy as much is the uni (sea urchin) which is usually my fav. It was a little fishy. I'm not surprised since it's so cheap when it's usually like $3-4 a piece. Others were seated after us and ordered before us. Our food came out fairly quickly though so that's good! When it got time to pay for the bill, I didn't feel inclined to tip. Service and food didn't wow me. With the price increase, I feel no reason to have to fork over even more money. Takohachi is definitely my favorite place to go when craving sushi. While I've never tried their plate offerings, or their rolls, you just cannot beat the $1 nigari! When I first heard of their deal, I thought there had to be a catch. Subpar fish? Thinly sliced fish? A mountain of rice? No, no, and no. Their fish is seemingly fresh and generously cut and portioned with rice! Such a great deal IMO! I've eaten here a number of times and have never been unsatisfied with the nigari quality. The only downside is that if you're dining in your food may time awhile due to the amount of call-in orders they receive. But good for them for also allowing the $1 nigari deal for to-go orders! Sushi rolls - better than many other places! Takoyaki - fresh and hot with lots of octopus! Gyoza - good Tempura vegs - perfect! Eggplant - superb!! After being struck with serious sushi withdrawal; I decided to check out this sushi spot nearest my job. The reviews are decent, so I had high hopes. This place is located in a very small shopping center, very easy to miss. I arrived around 30 minutes before their midday closure. As soon I as walked in, I was greeted by a staff member who asked me what I wanted. Being a first timer, I had no idea. She told me how to fill out the menu and to let her know when I was done. I ordered 2 $1 nigiri and a Washington roll. My food came out in about 5 minutes. I understand $1 nigiri is cool an all, however, the pieces were the width of my pink finger and otherwise underwhelming. For $1, I guess I can't expect much, but I was expecting more. The roll I ordered was made with real crab meat, which was a huge plus--the roll however was also pretty underwhelming. It wasn't $12.20 well spent. While there was no bad flavors, nothing about my sushi/nigiri really blew me away. The portions were small, so not only were my taste buds underwhelmed, I was left feeling as though I hadn't eaten. Hands down to Takohachi! I have been to many many sushi places but Takohachi is by far the best sushi for the price. Fish is fresh and nice thick cuts for nigiri. The $1 Nigiri is unbeatable and I believe most people come for that, the Maki is also great, they don't have the fancy names and plates but excellent rolls. The place was decent and clean but don't expect the high decor, fancy and boogie scene. The service was also great, we went on a very rush time but the waitress and hostess took good care of us. I ordered my order of various nigiri over the phone for pick-up. It was a simple process. Parking was fine since it is located in a shopping center. They are also open for dine-in too. Overall, my nigiri order was really good. They use fresh ingredients. Although the nigiri is a little smaller than other places, you just can't beat price of the $1 sushi all day everyday special. Takohachi is DEFINITELY my new go to sushi restaurant. If you're into those fancy crazy sized specialty rolls covered in thick sauces, this isn't the place for you. They serve simple rolls and a whole lot of delicious nigiri! The $1 nigiri is an such amazing deal especially looking at the size of those pieces of fish! The deal is even available for takeout/delivery during COVID times so you don't have to dine in. The fish is fresh and the rice is very well seasoned. They have such a nice wide variety of fish too. Came to Takohachi after a recommendation from a business partner who had mentions she got $1 nigiri at a place off columbia pike....uM HELLO unheard of unless the quality is meh...But she was ranting and raving that she spent a pretty penny on a decent amount and she left full. So magically the BF and I rolled in on a Friday Evening around 6:30 upon arrival the place was packed we were told it would be about a 30-45 min wait. Its a small place so you cant really go anywhere and we did not want to wander too far that they may give our table away because we were further out. Wait wasn't horrible since there was a group of 3 tables that left about the same time. Now the goal was to only order nigiri...however there are a lot of menu distractions...so we got an order of Pork gyoza (5)pieces $5.50 , takoyaki (5)pieces $4.00, Grilled Eel Rice Bowl $4.00. If your in the mood for dumplings just to satisfy a quick craving these will do...overall flavor is good...but doesn't have that panfried edge most dumplings do. Takoyaki...was surpisingly good...airy crisp and fluffy center with a decent amount of chew from the octopus piece in side. Normally they are huge spheres of mush so these were an improvement from what I've had. Grilled Eel rice bowl was good...it just need a bit more eel then 3 large chunks and a few pickled daikon radish. Sushi... we decided to limit ourselves 2 one Chef Maki Roll..because normally we overdo it...plus like I said the goal was to order $1 nigiri...so we decided on the Sweet Heart Roll (8 pieces) $14 which is shrimp tempura, avocado and spicy tuna inside and fresh tuna outside with spicy mayo. Uni was not the greatest uni I've ever had but it is a $1. Overall...foodwise takohachi has such a steal for $1 nigiri and I probably would return just for that instead of paying the same amount on rolls elsewhere or more for mediocre nigiri. May have to return back to try ramen...but with a deal on nigiri...it will be difficult to not order a few. Looks like Arlington has a hidden gem.. $1 sushi nigiri! All day everyday! Their lunch prices are pretty good as well! Came here one rainy Sunday with my brother getting our umami fix. Plenty of place to sit down and enjoy your meal. We were immediately seated. Started off with hot tea was I think a very simple barley tea. The real catch is that they offer some pretty sweet lunch deals. Filled our selves with the lunch veggie tempura($8.95), tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet-$10.95) and took sweet advantage of the all-day-$1 nigiri! Some of the food was a little over cooked and dry. The lunch options also come with a side salad and miso soup. For $1 nigiri it's a good deal and what is kind of expected of $1, they are decent sized nigiri, unfortunately when we went the salmon belly (sake harasu) and the yellow tail belly (sake harasu) weren't available. However, their white tuna and tuna were pretty good and all were decent cuts of fish. I would give the food a 3.5/5. Come here for good prices, good times, and good Japanese food. read more

Hands down my new favorite sushi place. Their sashimi and other fish in general is super fresh, the staff is so sweet and the service is so quick. I always get the salmon avo and Godzilla rolls and sometimes salmon sashimi. These rolls are to die for. It's not hard to see why 1$ nigiri enticing. What's even better, is that Takohachi does it right, with a wide selection of sushi and at a decent quality. On an absolute scale, the sushi here is average, but given the 1$ deal, it's well worth it all. The fish pieces are pretty fresh, and not that small either! They also have fatty fish selections, which was a great delight and awesome for my meal. As for other food, I wasn't a big fan. Takohachi is a solid sushi/Japanese restaurant located on Columbia Pike. It has a good number of tables and the menu contains not only sushi (special rolls, hand rolls, nigiri, etc.) but also a selection of Japanese soups, rice bowls, cooked fish, etc. I've never really faced much of a wait coming here with a group of 6-8 people, but maybe we come at the right times. What really makes Takohachi stand out from the other sushi restaurants in the area is it's $1 nigiri deal. It is $1 for any one piece of nigiri (small rice ball with raw fish on top) and they offer a variety of about 20+ options: salmon, tuna, uni, eel, egg, squid, yellowtail, etc. They are decent cuts of fish and of pretty decent size for the price. The only issue is that the nigiri takes awhile to prepare sometimes when you order a lot on the sheet (I've ordered like 50-60 at a time with my friends). Sushi: I usually order a couple different nigiri which I enjoy, including salmon, salmon belly, tuna, tuna belly, yellowtail, yellowtail belly, eel, tamago (egg), and inari. Nothing too crazy and it is all pretty solid quality. Food: Eel bowl - Decent size small eel bowl for $4 with a good amount of rice and cooked eel. Pork bowl - Also another small bowl with braised pork instead of eel for $4 as well. Yellowtail jaw - Delicious and perfectly broiled. Crispy skin and tender meat inside. One of my favorite Japanese dishes because its packed with so much flavor. Chazuke - Rice bowl with seaweed and other small toppings and broiled salmon with a side of tea/broth that you pore over the rice to eat like a soup. When I ordered this, it unfortunately was inedible because of the amount of salt inside of it. I should've sent it back, but I just thought the flavoring was off. Turns out, it was just a ton of salt. I've had pretty decent service every time that I have come and the servers are always very nice. I like asking for hot tea and water whenever I sit down too. Overall, Takohachi has essentially become a staple for my friend group. It has cheap, good sushi and good options for vegetarians or people who don't like raw fish. It's always fun to get a gigantic platter of sushi and not have to pay a fortune for it, so it's one of our go-to restaurants. read more

We made the mistake of placing our initial small order followed by another round of nigiri but ended up waiting an eternity for everything. To keep it short and sweet, highlights of the sushi included the scallop, salmon, salmon belly, yellowtail, and yellowtail belly. Skip the uni... One dollar per piece uni sounds as mediocre as you may imagine... The seaweed salad, tofu appetizer, and green tea pudding were all great as starters and enders, respectively. $1 nigiri - need I say more? I didn't expect very high quality considering the price, but I was pleasantly surprised! Though each piece was a little small, the rice to fish ratio was perfect and everything tasted very fresh. I was surprised that even uni (sea urchin) was so cheap, so of course I had to take advantage of the price, but I would probably skip this in the future and stick to my usual unagi and salmon. My friend and I finished the meal with green tea ice cream, which was topped with whipped cream and not overly sweet. Service was very slow, but they only had two chefs making nigiri, which is what everyone was ordering, so it's understandable. Our server came over to apologize for the wait, and I'm sure that they'll improve as they work out the kinks of running a new restaurant. You don't beat the deal and quality this place offers. $1 high quality nigiri pieces and only about a 10 minute drive from Arlington Ballston, you won't find the balance of quality and value anywhere else nearby. I've been here pre virus but recently got takeout here after having a sushi craving. The place continues to uphold it's premium quality and still packages everything very nicely. Takohachi also provides good side plates, including $4 chashu rice and unagi rice, which are great additions to your meal. I honestly have nothing bad to say about this place. It's homey, the sushi staff friendly, and just great food for an even greater value. If you are ever craving sushi and 10 minutes out of Arlington isn't bad, come here. When we dine in, it does take a while for the food to come out since they're individually making nigiri. Keep this in mind when you order nigiri (try to order all your nigiri in one go). Remember: you get what you pay for so the quality is not top-notch, but such value for $1. Personally, I really like the salmon nigiri here for its price. The tuna is ok. If you like uni, it WILL taste like they just fished it from the ocean for you 5 min ago (hey, uni is expensive!). Honestly such a bizzare service experience. Only still getting 3 stars because the sushi was pretty fresh and unbeatable for $1 nigiri. Our friend who doesn't love nigiri got a rice dish and after 45 mins it still wasn't delivered but they brought by two dishes we hadn't order and the sushi already came. We inquired about it and the hostess assured they would put it in. An hour has past and still nothing but they brought by yet ANOTHER dish that we hadn't ordered. We inquired AGAIN about the rice dish and she said they the kitchen hadn't known and if we still wanted it. I said obviously because our friend has not eaten anything.1.5 hours in we finally got the rice dish really bizzare because they kept checking in to see if it arrived but when we said it hadn't apparently they still did not put the order in three separate times. I decided to get takeout on a lazy Friday night and good thing because it was pretty packed inside. There is parking since it's located in a little strip center off of Columbia Pike. They are famous for their $1 nigiri so I had to give it a try. I went with the salmon, yellowtail, eel, and tuna. They were all fresh tasting with a good rice to fish ratio! I also decided to try a Red Dragon roll (California with spicy tuna on top) which was tasty. I would love to come back with a group and try their other items.
