    Starting with a tall Sapporo!
    Erik S.

This place is a treasure. I hope the people of the DC area know the gem they've got in Takumi. This place punches way above it's weight in terms of fish quality and value, and they focus on what they are best at... fresh and unique sushi. I had the pleasure of coming here from out of town while visiting friends that discovered this place. Knowing how much I like good sushi, even better if it doesn't leave me broke, they suggested this place. Looking at the menu on Yelp, I knew already that I was in for a treat. Started the evening off with a nice tall cold Sapporo, and ordered the sushi sampler 2 with toppings, as well as an order of seared Otoro tuna nigiri, and a Negitoro roll as well. My friend had never had the premium Otoro before, and we were both exceptionally happy with the naturally buttery flavor of the tuna, along with the flavor imparted by the quick sear. This really got things going on the right food. The Negitoro roll was pretty good, maybe just a bit off on the ratio of rice to fish. But still very much enjoyed it. The sushi sampler was great, all chef's choice. Each piece of nigiri was a different fish, and again, some more unusual finds here. My favorites of the less typical were the arctic char and Japanese snapper. The Saba was quite good too, and I'm not usually a mackerel fan. Each piece was topped with a complimentary spice or flavor, like yuzu, wasabi, black pepper, or even old bay in one case. It all worked. It was all delicious. I'm going to be asking for this place on a return trip without a doubt. Would also point out the service was informative and prompt, and was able to advise one of my friends on allergy requirements. The ambiance is intimate and modern, but comfortable. Will be back!

I always enjoy going to Takumi, especially for the lunch specials, which are really a great deal. The sushi is fresh and it's also creative. The menu is large and varieThe place is very calm and relaxed and the service is always on point.

Takumi has the best Nigiri in the area. I have frequented this restaurant three times in the last 4 months and I will ALWAYS have a meal at Takumi whenever I am in the area for work. My favorite nigiri was the Seared Salmon Belly. Hamachi Belly w Lime Zest, Fatty Tuna, Suzuki, and Mackerel were also very good. The RICE was phenomenal. It melted like the fatty tuna. My only negative was the roll. It was cut too large and not flavorful. I ordered it once and never again.

The best omakase I've had and the price was such a steal for the amount we were served! 2 appetizers and 14 pieces (last 4 were cooked). The chef and waitresses were so sweet and conversational. The food was memorable and will absolutely go again!! I'm mad that I never came here sooner. PS: omakase is reservation only and not on the menu -- you'll need to call and ask.

I chose to go here since people had talked about how it's pretty good quality sushi for a decent price. I had really high hopes. Walking into the restaurant, it smelled very fishy in a bad way. I understand that there's fish but I know what fresh fish smells like vs borderline rotting fish. I ordered the salmon and avocado as well as the spicy salmon. My partner got the crunchy eel roll, soft shell crab roll, and salmon and avocado. Service was very slow and the place was pretty small so it's difficult to get a seat. Overall, the sushi was disappointing because the rice was mushy and lacked seasoning. Fish portion sizes were pretty small. I tried a bit of the crab roll and the crab was very fishy tasting. The other fish tasted fine though.

We live a few blocks from here and have always wanted to try this place. Located in a center next to Pupuseria La Familiar and Lee's Thai along South Washing Street. A small location with a handful of tables and booth dine-in seating. There is also a few front-row seats at the sushi bar. For weekend dinners, there is a wait of 30 minutes or more (from what I would be quoted from the staff when I call in). Now for the food - the dishes were prepared fresh and to order. The service was very quick and friendly and the experience from ordering to checkout. The restaurant is very clean and parking can be a challenge as the spaces are limited within the center. Nonetheless, we will be back to try other options. Enjoy!

Ambience - it's not a fancy place located in an ugly block of retail next to a pupuseria. Restaurant decor is minimal. Definitely not a fancy date night place. There was a slight fishy smell when we first entered which was concerning but it didn't impact the quality of the food. Parking is a nightmare because spots are very limited and often taken by customers of the pupuseria. If you don't immediately find parking by circling to the back in a driveway only wide enough to fit one car at a time you have to get back onto the road and circle around again. There is no offstreeet parking. You may also just want to park at the Dunkin' Donuts across the street they appear to be pretty empty on a Saturday night. Service is extremely nice and attentive. It seems the servers share responsibility of all the tables so there's always someone around to help you. Food: we mostly eat sashimi and we compare quality across different price points and this place is on the lower end of the price point but equal if not better quality than Modan in Tyson's which just opened 1. Salmon - I don't like salmon but my husband said it was equivalent to modan 2. Tuna - good texture and I felt was better than modan 3. Fatty tuna - significantly better than modan I would get this one again 4. Live scallop - on their specials and you should definitely get it if they have it available but it was expensive 5. Fatty hamachi - very good and buttery 6. Uni - they have both the Hokkaido variety and the ones from ME. I dont recommend getting either bc the Hokkaido ones are tiny little pieces so very unsatisfying for what you're paying and the ME ones just aren't good 7. Scallops- very good but they should slice thinner instead of just presenting as one big chunk Sushi - my husband liked their house roll. I always get an eel and avocado hand roll to compare to other restaurants and I find theirs to have too much eel skin on it. I'll pass next time. 5 star rating based on exceptional sashimi at a very point price point

Takumi is a cute little shop situated on the corner. The interior is super fun with art fixtures and little fish lanterns hanging from the walls and ceilings. The staff was super friendly and helped us out a ton during our visit. Unfortunately, the sushi was pretty average, and a few of the pieces we got noticeably lacked quality. The tuna did not taste that fresh, and our fatty tuna with scallion roll didn't really have much flavor other than the scallion and seaweed.

Honestly, I was not expecting much as it seems like a small local sushi shop but Takumi exceeded my expectations! The calamari pasta was super unique and yummy--I see why it's a popular dish. I also got the special sushi set, spicy scallop roll, and the negitoro roll. The fish were all super fresh and prepared so well. There were no fishy smell or taste. The server was super friendly and prompt as well. She had the type of smile that makes others smile. I will definitely be back for more!

Sushi Set 3 (9 Pcs Nigiri)

Takumi is a fairly new sushi restaurant in the Falls Church NoVA area and it is very... decent. The sushi is cheap for the quality, it's good, just not stellar. I think it hits the spot in the right moments but it has a couple of flaws in my opinion. I came in for a casual lunch in the middle of the week. The space is small and I was hit with a very slightly smell of fishy brininess that had me initially worried. The decor is small yet comfortable, on the warmer side with 2 and 4 tops spread down the space and a sushi bar with maybe 6 seats in the back. Their servers were nice and attentive, did the job solidly. I just got a Sushi Set 3(9 pc Nigiri). This came along with a Miso soup & a House Salad as additional add-ons which was nice. The soup had a very light dashi smell, large quantity of Wakame and less Cubed Tofu. The earthy umami from the Miso I found slightly lacking. I wish there was more tofu instead of Wakame but that is just my personal tastes. The House salad was the standard Sesame Oil + Sweet Soy dressing and a variety of greens. The greens were fresh still retaining their crunch and a nice texture. Though I did wish there was slightly more dressing but all of these nitpicks are a simple fix. Good and meet standards overall. The Sushi had come after a 15 minute wait, really reasonable time. In order from left to right, top to bottom, from my photo. Suzuki w/ Lime Zest - in my opinion, it's better without the lime zest, especially for such a nice-quality fish. The fish had a great texture and a very mild flavor Maguro Akami - Very standard akami with a clean smell and meaty chew, solid highlight. Walu w/ Wasabi Pickle - This might be a first for me, but like most white fish, the flavors are very subtle but the texture was more Hamachi kind of meaty instead of chewy/firmer like most white fish. The Wasabi adds a nice acid and spice to brighten the fish. Salmon - I think the salmon was slightly warm because there was a bit of that briny smell but not enough to make the flavor mute. The texture was the expected buttery meaty feel of salmon. Tai - This fish was chilled nicely for some reason and had a nice texture, very clean subtle flavors, this was likely a highlight for me. Walu - Same notes as the one w/ Wasabi Pickle but just more mild and subtle without other garnish. Iwana w/ Lemon Zest - I like this piece a lot because of the stronger yet still palatable fish scent because it was balanced with the lemon zest. The Iwana had a similar meaty buttery texture to salmon, great piece. Hamachi w/ Lime Zest - Like the Iwana, a proper use of the acidic zest atop a piece of fish that mute any briny notes and accentuate the fatty aromatic ones. Hokkaido Hotate - The most buttery piece! The scallop was of a clear high quality with how clean it tasted and how smooth the texture was. Something I noticed from the Akami that's true among all the pieces was that the rice was slightly cold & a bit loose If the rice was warmer and molded tighter with the fish chilled slightly colder, then the sushi would have a noticeable improvement. Maybe this was caused sitting at the table instead of the bar, but it made up a big difference for me. Also, the use of the acidic toppings is a great idea but could be placed more thoughtfully. I liked the zest on top of the Iwana & Hamachi a lot because they balance the stronger aroma of the fish more and accentuate's the clean flavors. But on the more mild white fishes like the Suzuki, it would be better without it or adjust the flavors of the topping so it doesn't mute the fish but highlights it more, maybe adding some salt atop. Over all, I think Takumi sushi has the potential and great ingredients to make sushi that truly lives up to the local acclaim, but so far they just fall off with a few marks. I would consider returning again to see if they have grown and improved, maybe show up for dinner to try their Omakase, beyond that I have no desire to return.

I'd recommend getting the chili oil to complete the taste if you are ok with a little spicy. The marinated beef was cooked to perfection in the Sukiyaki. I also tried their seaweed salad which tasted fresh and had the right amount of seasoning. And their Takoyaki was cooked perfectly and had a good amount of octopus inside. Restaurant inside is bit on the small side but they do have bar counter-style seating too. Tables have been on the cleaner side compared to other restaurants of this price range. For the uninitiated, abura soba is a brothless ramen where the magic happens at the bottom of the bowl. A savory aromatic oil and tare base sit beneath springy, chewy noodles, topped with a silky poached egg and classic ramen accoutrements. The key is to mix thoroughly -- really commit -- until the egg emulsifies with the oil and sauce, coating every strand in glossy, umami-packed richness. The texture is the standout. The noodles have a satisfying chew that holds up against the weight of the oil without becoming heavy. It's indulgent but not cloying. The customization element elevates the experience: a drizzle of chili oil adds warmth and depth, while a splash of vinegar cuts through the richness with bright acidity. Dial it in to your preference and the bowl transforms in real time. If you're a fan of Chinese scallion oil noodles or Korean jajangmyeon, you'll recognize the comfort-food DNA here -- but abura soba feels more refined and layered. The flavor is concentrated, savory, and deeply satisfying without relying on broth. This is the kind of spot that knows exactly what it is and executes with confidence. A refreshing change from the ramen norm and absolutely worth the visit. Bonus points for the casual kid friendly atmosphere and also offering traditional soup ramen and donburi for less adventurous dining companions.

I was really excited for the beef ramen, but it was a massive letdown. The beef itself was super tough and lacked flavor.
