Takoi was alright. It's not some pace I'd go running back to but if I found myself there again, I wouldn't be upset about it. I wouldn't mind trying more things on the menu. I got a nice little mocktail and the Kusy Tewo PET Tuun duck noodle dish. The vibes were nice, the staff were friendly.

When I've eaten farm-to-table food in the past, I've found that the flavor is somehow lost on the way to the table. I am happy to report that Takoi is a notable exception. First of all: the thai iced tea was DELICIOUS. So creamy, the perfect balance of tea and cream...it was probably my favorite part of the meal (which is no insult to the food, the tea was just that good). The Khanom Krok is a definite order on the appetizer list. Very coconut-forward, with a slight spicy tang at the end, we downed the delicate little pancake-style confections immediately. The cauliflower curry was lovely (the cauliflower really was crunchy compared to the sad frozen variety I frequent, so I guess the farm was doing its thing). The mapo tofu was great as well, although I'll note I didn't taste any Szechuan flavor, much more of a Thai slant. Last note, if you get the steamed rice, it comes in a cute little saran-wrapped package, not a bowl. The jasmine rice does come in a bowl, though (and is $3, which isn't crazy in today's economy).

Takoi is a great time always! I come here quite often and the menu never disappoints; it's a rotating menu so every visit is a different experience. Service is always excellent and staff is very welcoming. The atmosphere is 10/10!

Came for a friends birthday. Vibey spot, good for a drink. My friend got the new bloom - highly recommend if you like a bit lighter and tart cocktail. Unfortunately the food was pretty average. Sticky ribs were sweet but not a very complex flavor, meat was a bit dry as well. I had high hopes for the Khao soi but it was just average. Papaya salad was super spicy!

The staff was super friendly and patient. The set up was beautiful! Not very big inside so make reservations. Everything is served family style and burst with flavors! The tomato salad was fresh and delicious. I enjoy the bread and the coconut curry dish with noodles and chicken. I will definitely be back to try the other dishes. The drinks were just as delicious and strong!

Don't be fulled by discreet "run down" outside look of this place. It's urban-chic inside and amazing food will bring you back! Great friendly staff - from hostess to wait staff makes you feel welcome. The menu looked interesting and looking at tables around us, the plates on the tables - we wanted to try everything. And everything we tried ;) and it was delicious! Mushroom plates - the best I've ever had! Ribs - amazing! Stir fry chicken bowl - fantastic! So, basically, bring your foodie self to Takoi and enjoy

Great food and atmosphere. The dry noodles were nice and soft and the crispy ribs had a lot of flavor to them. Would definitely come here again!

Wow such a unique tasting menu experience. It was 6 courses, 4-5 appetizers-ish dishes and one main entree. Flavors were something I have never had before. Salad which was mango and snap peas had all the core tastes (sweet salty sour spicy umami) except bitter. Beef soup main ingredient was 1) fall off bone beef and 2) turmeric which I didn't know you could make taste so good. The chive squares were fried and a bit dim-sum like but sauce was great - not too sweet or salty. Fish main entree was fried well, not too heavy especially with with leaves as a wrapper. Service was great. Thor was attentive. Knew the dishes well. Refilled water. Served next entree quickly. Ambiance was club-like inside with the lighting and dark atmosphere otherwise. Underground feel. Outside is like you're entering an old metal garage. However the feel I'm sure was well intended to be like this. Would be back.

Takoi is a great place to go for bold thai flavors served up with a contemporary flare. The ambiance makes it hard to talk to your dinner dates due to the loud music, and as seen in the photos, you can't necessarily see what you're eating due to the lighting. Regardless, the appetizers were excellent. Salads were fresh, punchy, and unique. The main noodle dishes fell quite flat. We were left wanting more flavor. Portion sizes were very generous and the service was quite fast and friendly. There are some unforgettable dishes on the menu that I would come back for (winter and papaya salads) but I think there is room for improving the entrees and making the atmosphere more inviting.

Not bad at all! We arrived around 7:30 p.m. and were pleasantly surprised--it wasn't too busy. The food was delicious. The tables were a bit small, but we made it work. At first, we considered the tasting menu, but ended up ordering a variety of dishes instead, which turned out great. We tried to order table shots for a birthday celebration--first asked for a white tea shot, then a green tea, but neither was available. Eventually, the bartender picked one for us (a purple one), and it was strong and tasty. Later, I asked for a vodka and Sprite--wasn't available. Tried an apple martini--also unavailable. So I just went with a Jack and Coke to keep it simple. My wife got a mocktail, which she loved--she even ordered a few more throughout the night. Overall, the food was solid, and the company made it even better. The room was a bit warm--probably around 78-80 degrees--but we managed. One thing I didn't appreciate was the automatic gratuity. As someone who's worked in the restaurant industry and knows how things work, I believe our server would've made even more from our table without it. We're foodies who frequent some of the best restaurants in the country. I also ran into an issue when I tried to cover the birthday shots. I asked to have them placed on my tab, but was told it couldn't be done due to how they split checks. They use the Toast POS system--which I'm familiar with--and it definitely allows for that flexibility. Instead, the server asked me to pay more upfront and then they'd split the remainder across the other cards. A bit disappointing, especially given that we're all professionals and just wanted the evening to go smoothly. I like the restaurant overall, but was turned off by the lack of attentiveness and the auto-gratuity policy. Just a reminder: know the room. Treat your guests with respect and warmth--it makes all the difference. Good luck!

We scanned a q.r. code to see the menu. We got a salad, the chicken and the pho. The asparagus salad was probably my favorite. Super bright. Lime forward. There was a giant pile of limes in the kitchen. My friend was in town and I wanted to treat her to the amazing detroit food scene. She had some food restrictions and they kindly brought a menu of things she could eat. The restaurant is giving edgy cinderblock vibes. The nook between the booths and wall that held the l.e.d. strip was quite dirty and I imagine, super hard to clean. Perhaps they should rethink that. Cool skylight windows.

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.

They could have been upfront about this, but our waiter didn't tell us until after bringing us drinks, letting us see the menus, and after he started to take our orders. We essentially had to ask---what *do* you have? One pet peeve of mine is that they give everyone low ball glasses for water with no ice and a single, narrow carafe of water for the entire table. We had to continuously ask for more water. I tried the espresso no-tini ($11), a mocktail. It was good, but came in cordial glass and was essentially just a shot of chilled espresso. The setas ($14) were listed as a local wild mushroom blend with garlic and lemon. It was probably about a half cup of mushrooms, grilled, and served in a saucer. Finally, the charcuterie y queso ($21) was meat, cheese, sourdough, mustard, pickles, and honey. Everything was very salty and with no variation. It needed balance with a soft cheese, spice, or more sweetness. My charcuterie plate didn't come out until about an hour plus after we ordered, after multiple asks. It's hard to justify the delay when it's just hard cheese and meat, they didn't have to cook, and there were few other customers. (Essentially, we forgot). I still had a wonderful time with my friends in a beautiful space, but I wouldn't come here to eat again.
