The food was SO GOOD! We had sushi, edamame, fried pot stickers, and egg rolls. The place is setup kinda like a pizza joint. It had a couple TVs on with college ball on. Captions were on as to not interfere with the contemporary music playing at just the right volume. The restaurant was clean and the drink and condiment section was very organized. You order at the register and your food is served and takeout containers. This restaurant was rated #1 but I'm confused as to why. It's not a sit down so you order at the front and then sit or takeout. The guy taking our order looked bothered we took him away from his phone. I've never not loved or even liked sushi before. This one wasn't horrible for the sushi roll for taste And cost is unbeatable so I gave it a 3-star. Miso was also good. But their egg rolls were mushy inside and the shrimp tempura was a batter not a tempura and not a good batter at that. We didn't eat either. read more

We used to come to Mikoshi on a regular basis when coming to Lake Keowee but haven't been here in about a year. We used to love the food and recommended it to many folks we know in the area. No more... We ate there at lunch today and had the worse Japanese meal we have EVER had. We ordered the Hibachi Triple with beef, chicken and shrimp which was advertised as being served with fried rice and veggies. Upon picking it up at the counter - yes this is self serve - and opening up the plastic container box we were disappointed in seeing that there was no fried rice - just plain bland brown rice. The hibachi sauce had absolutely no flavor - absolutely none - and tasted like a bitter brown sauce. I don't even know how it could be called hibachi sauce. The meats were all under cooked and the veggies over cooked. No amount of soy sauce helped! And don't even get us started on how rude the guy at the counter was and how you have to go fishing for your plastic utensils to eat. Disgusting! read more

It is a walk up to the counter & order your meal, get your own sauces, drinks, plastic ware, etc. kind of place... With that being said my husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time today. We were pleasantly surprised with both the amazing prices & amount of food we received. Each sushi roll had 10 (small) pieces, every roll is under $5.00. We each had the miso soup which was delicious (& under $2.00)! We also each ordered a hibachi which both were very well prepared, cooked and flavored...& since we were trying out a variety of things (since it was our first time) we ordered the fried pork dumplings too! I really like the location and how easy it is to order what you need and get everything ready. The food here is fresh, delicious, and well prepared. Food is okay. I'd eat it again but preferably take it out. It wasn't anything special or memorable. I got the hibachi triple and everything seemed the taste the same and was pretty drowned in the sauce they used. The inside of the restaurant needs a remodel and didn't even smell like food which seemed strange. Instead it smelled like a combination of multiple horrible bathroom fresheners and gave me a pretty bad headache. It seems like they don't want people dining in with how things were set up (needing to grab everything by the counter). So happy to finally have a place to get some good hibachi and simple sushi rolls in Pickens! I've ordered from them in person and over door dash and I've never been dissatisfied. 4 years ago, Mikoshi was great, especially for a little town like Pickens. Today, I actively avoid it. They have changed their hibachi and started using some gross sauce that is sticky and sweet--that is not hibachi. I thought maybe they messed up my order, but several people have noticed it, too. It's not good. There is a smell in the whole place that is off-putting. The way they store utensils, straws, and condiments has always been weird, in drawers, where you get a fork out of a pile that everyone has been fishing through with their hands. It's a gross concept, I don't know why DHEC let's them do it, or why they think it's a good or even acceptable idea. read more

Overall, a great place for Pickens. Some pointers for this place are bigger quantities or more modest prices. The steak is top par, well cooked, and a good cut of steak, possibly top sirloin cuts as it nearly melts in your mouth. The interior is nice and service is hit or miss, as some of the wait staff seem to be working their first server gig. The menu is limited - don't come here unless you're ready to eat your typical hibachi and teriyaki or sushi japanese quick serve fare. I can only give it 4 stars because my meal was small for the price. I will honestly say that the quantities are among the smallest I've seen offered compared to competitors, but the steak really is superlative. read more

Great addition to the variety of restaurants in Pickens. Moderately priced and overall acceptable portions. Decor is suitable for most, although don't expect much. Menu size and variety is like any other hibachi restaurant. Vegetables are surprising cooked usually well and are loaded with flavor. The sushi wasn't up to par, although I've only had it once. The hibachi is always a safe bet, although the chicken is usually dry. Great place if you are looking for a change in your usual type of restaurants. read more

They're sushi and hibachi grill are just out of this world, and I'd recommend this restaurant who wants good Japanese food.
