I've been coming here for 10 years. We sit on the orient side, down below. It's the quietest and softest ambiance there (also, normally where families are - weird combo). The sushi is expensive. It's also my favorite in town. The rice is perfect, the flavors are simple and complimentary. I normally get an eel roll and a spicy yellowtail roll, or the curry. The first thing I noticed when I entered - it looks more like a bar, and not a sushi restaurant. The server came by and started asking if we wanted any drinks to start, or appetizers. He looked pretty deflated when we didn't order either. For my lunch, I got the Surf & Turf. The steak was a bit tough, but the salmon was prepared impressively well (not overcooked). The sushi wasn't bad. Back to the server, he was pretty bad the rest of the service. He basically tossed our plates on our table. He didn't smile, or attempt to be nice. A neat place in Main Street. Friendly, polite and efficient staff. Our food came out within minutes! We both ordered salads. I had the lobster salad which was delicious. The greens were fresh. I had a lobster tail with a lobster salad mix within my salad. This was served with a wasabi dressing, a soy dressing and a ginger dressing. All were delicious. The restaurant is surprisingly large inside and nicely decorated. It's very clean. A great spot to get your Japanese fix! read more

This is my first negative review on a restaurant, but I feel it is important to share this experience. A customer made a rude comment about my friend's physical appearance. It was very hurtful, embarrassing & completely inappropriate. What was even more disappointing was the response from staff & management. After speaking with the manager, I hoped there would be concern, accountability or even a sincere apology. Instead, they joked with the rude customer. I left feeling that our concerns were mocked. No one should have to worry about being ridiculed like that. Restaurants should be places where people feel welcomed, respected & valued regardless of their appearance, age, size or background. As women, we should be supporting & uplifting one another, not tolerating environments where people are shamed or mocked. If you are looking for a place where you can relax & feel comfortable being yourself, this is not the place. Women standing strong together can make a difference. We can change the world for the better. I will not be back and will be spreading the word to my friends and others. We dine here when we're in town which used to be several times a year, but has now been about 2 years ago. They've changed a lot since we were last here in staff and atmosphere, but it's still a great culinary experience. Clean and spacious enough. There's also a bar area and an adjoining Chinese restaurant (The Orient on Main). Our waitress was reserved but polite and checked on us enough. My order of Chirashi was still expertly prepared. I also ordered sweet shrimp sashimi with a request to fry the shrimp heads. Two come with the order and the heads were perfectly fried yet light and so crispy. My husband's order of Ikura Nigiri, Mackerel Nigiri, and Yellowtail roll were as expertly prepared and everything was fresh. We will definitely return next time we're in town. read more

This used to be our go to for sushi in Greenville. Over the last couple years it has declined in quality. On our most recent visit the edamame was so mushy and room temperature. The Nigiri tuna was also mushy and room temperature. My husband's rainbow roll was skimpy on the fish and the rolls themselves have gotten smaller. There are many other better sushi places around. Initial welcome treatment was weak, even though I had booked a table I was told to go wait in a line with no one in charge. Then was led to one of the worst tables by the kitchen but spoke up and got a better one. Deluxe sushi roll was poorly presented and sloppy, with little attention to aesthetics. A small 8 piece item. Service was subpar. Bartender had bad attitude out the gate with my party and the party next to us. It continued, had to ask for chop sticks and napkins after food was served. I also had to ask three times to make a to go order since she kept ignoring me. Then to top it off the cheek yellowtail served with ponzu is fried. Me and a friend were out roaming Greenville for our birthday weekend and decided to eat here for dinner tonight. My friend decided to get the dumplings and when she opened the lid, a roach came running out of the bowl and crawled all over the table. After everyone around us saw what was happening, the nice ladies sitting behind us returned their food as they were grossed out by what they had witnessed. The nice lady beside us decided she was no longer going to eat because she no longer had an appetite either. After flagging down a waitress and my friend killing the bug with a napkin and showing the waitress, the person in charge came out to speak but instead of speaking to us, they spoke to the ladies behind us. After a 5 minute spill about how it happens and saying it was due to the building being old and telling them their bill will be compensated, he walked away and never came to speak to us. He then proceeded to come back to the table behind us and ask them to not tell anyone what they had saw, they then proceeded to tell him that the roach came out of our food not theirs. He walks over, he doesn't say anything other than hey. We tell him we've already paid and he said he would be right back and then never came back. So therefore our bill was NOT compensated but that ladies behind us were when we were the ones that had the roach in the food. So we decide to get up and leave and he hardly made any eye contact and threw his hands up and shrugged his shoulder and all he had to say was "Sorry guys". It is REALLY sad we had to receive this kind of service. We use to come here every Friday and it was one of our favorite places to eat. We've raved about this place to everyone we know for years. So to receive this kind of service and lack of caring was disgusting. We will never be back and after today, we will never recommend anyone to come here. The roach is one thing but the way the situation was handled is another. Very very disappointing. read more

Spare yourself the worst sushi you'll ever have. I may not be "elite" (who are you people?) but I've eaten a lot of sushi in a lot of different places and Murasaki was the only time we couldn't finish the plate. It was the worst sushi I've ever had, and I'm not sure I've said that about anything before. Maybe we ordered the wrong rolls, maybe the sushi chef was having an off night, or maybe this place just sucks. Save your money, do your stomach a favor and go anywhere else for dinner. The rolls had about an inch of rice and little meat inside. They also call a roll a Philadelphia roll, though instead of smoked salmon it has imitation crab. How do you get away with redefining roll names? Read the menu closely folks! Nothing is normal at Murasaki. Even the ambience is partial sports bar, partial local watering hole, part bad sushi restaurant. Few redeeming qualities here. After complaining to the manager, he offered 50% off our bill but didn't offer to make the food right or anything else. We left hungry. Avoid! read more

FRESH SUSHI!! Some of the freshest we have had! Love the atmosphere here with plenty of menu options. But sushi being are favorite we can't imagine not enjoying sushi here. They also have a very nice cocktail menu with a large variety of sake option available. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. We had a nice long enjoyable meal and never felt rushed. Grocery store sushi is better. The worst sushi of my life. What is worse, the owner did not care. Offered us 50% off as a solution. The owner did not offer us something else on the menu, which is very telling. The head "chef" was there and I have zero confidence for someone who cannot even make proper sushi rice.... There's so much rice on the rolls and hardly any fish/filling. Then there's no flavor to compensate for it. No amount of spicy mayo and soy sauce could make this "sushi" taste good.
