Wish I lived here in Nova for places like Sho! Elegant place that is all deserving of praise. Love their plating and every dish we had was delicious. The fish, skewers, sushi, all great. One notable thing was that I had an odd tendon/piece in one of my karaage pieces. But other than that, everything else was perfect. Oh and also reasonably priced! Highly recommended!

Is a very sleek and modern design when you walk in suitable for either date nights or casual gatherings. The parking lot is pretty small and shared by a couple of other restaurants in the area, but there is a garage parking close by and street parking if you can find some. The wait staff was friendly and kind and sent us to our table and we were attended to pretty quickly. The service was pretty good with our waters topped off and questions answered! Service 4/5! Yakitori platter: The pork belly was pretty salty and a little bit tough, my least favorite of the platter. Seasoning was okay. The problem, I think, that it was over a marinated which made it super salty, it wasn't balanced. I would recommend adding something to balance out the saltines and not marinate it for so long. 2/5 The steak was just okay, it was pretty tough and gristly, not my favorite either, the seasoning and marinade were decent but couldn't save the toughness. Overall, 2/5 Chicken meatball, chicken thigh, chicken breast were all great! Good marinade and moist and juicy! They were the most enjoyable! 4/5 for all of them! The mushrooms wrapped in bacon was interesting, not my thing but interesting, not horrible but not good? I'd probably pass on it next time. 1/5 Overall, disappointed with the steak and pork belly and wouldn't spend your money on them, while chicken was good, dunno if you'd go out of the way to order it if that makes sense. Gyoza: meh, not much there with flavor or taste, not memorable at all, just mid. 2.5/5 SUSHI: Hamachi and scallion Temaki, this is served open like a "taco style" I found this to be enjoyable! The yellowtail was marinated with a subtile flavor that added to the flavor! 3.5/5 Med fatty tuna, chutoro, nigiri was great with flavor and tenderness but my only problem was that there was too mush membrane in the cut where it's hard to chew and where you need to spit it out. Just wish that wasn't there tbh, 3.5/5 The salmon and tuna flight were all great! If I were to nitpick, the rice seasoning was a bit too much, taking away from the flavor of the salmon and tuna. But overall it was enjoyable, 3.8/5 Overall, the food was good, but it is very expensive for what you get, nothing stood out to be amazing that would set this place over the many sushi places in the area. Service is good and ambiance is very pleasant just not sure if it's completely worth it Might go back but with the many options there it's hard to decide.

What a cute little spot and a hidden gem! I truly enjoyed my experience here. The staff were very personable and friendly. This was our first outing post baby so definitely an experience. We started off with the drinks off the cocktail menu- beware they are nice and strong! The quality of the fish was impeccable. Not pictured: hamachi jalapeño (5/5), Shotoro roll (4/5), Kiku sake roll (4/5).

Solid spot for good sushi! They also go Demon Slayer themed drinks. I've seen people in Demon Slayer gear come in her for dinner time. The Nezuko and the Love Hashira are pretty similar with the Love Hashira cocktail being more yuzu-y but the guava taste shines through. For appetizers, we got the karaage and truffle fries. The karaage was fried pieces of chicken thigh so it was juicy and came out hot. Not too oily compare to most other fried chicken appetizers. We also got the truffle fries (not on the menu) but they were dry and not very truffle-flavored so they were somewhat disappointing. The aki has a sweet honey mayo on top with relatively thick torched salmon pieces. The shorin is a bit hard to see since it is covered by the seaweed, but it was creamy from the fresh uni. The tuna flights were really good with relatively thick various pieces of tuna fish. The otoro was fatty and rich, but I prefer the firmness from the akami. Their black sesame dessert is SO GOOD. Rich black and thick ice cream that melts. I didn't love the panna cotta as the ube flavor was too strong and sweet for me, but I think if you love ube you would love this dessert.

I have always wanted to try this spot for the longest time and glad to have finally been able to and it was a tremendous experience! Right upon entry, we were greeted with a warm friendly smile and the eagerness to assist. The overall ambiance has a premium feel with trendy lighting and decorations perfect for family, friends, or a nice romantic meal. They import their sushi and it was fresh! They have a lot of options with different menus for their lunch, specials, and all specialize drinks. I opted for the Chirashi and Shosake roll and both were fulfilling and delicious. I may have found my new favorite spot and will definitely be back again. They have about 10+ tables, so a reservation on weekends or special holidays may be recommended. Parking is available in the garage or outdoor lot, which can be limited as it is shared with the surrounding establishments. Enjoy!

A cozy hidden gem in McLean, VA. The sushi are all fresh (seafood from Japan flown in daily). Their grilled tuna collar is excellent as well as the yuzu miso butter clams. We enjoyed the salmon platter and the Temaki. We will definitely come back to explore other menu items.

Enjoyed this place! Seemed to give off more premium, upscale vibes but did not come dressed like that unfortunately. Still had a comfortable experience though. Started off with some of their Demon Slayer themed drinks which were tasty and fun. My only question is why did they not use the Love Hashira's real name for her drink! :P Got five sushi rolls, one of the newer hot dishes, and the matcha tiramisu. Initially got three rolls but still felt hungry after, so had to order more. The pork sweet potato puree dish was nice and interesting with its flavours, but definitely not filling. I'd say the experience ended up being a bit more pricier than expected to be fully satisfied but still a good meal I'd recommend. But the matcha tiramisu was truly addictive, I wanted to order a second one! Service was nice and attentive I'd say. A spot worth trying out for sushi and Japanese food but be aware of the price point; I'd come back to try other stuff and get the tiramisu again.

From the moment you walk into SHō Sushi & Izakaya, the tone is set with a genuine "irashaimase" that immediately makes you feel welcome. That warmth carries throughout the entire experience, all the way to the "arigato" as you leave. The ambiance is modern, clean, and inviting--elevated without feeling formal. The drink menu is a standout, especially the mocktails, which are just as thoughtfully crafted and beautifully presented as everything else. Service was exceptional. Polly was attentive and warm without ever hovering, and Patty, the owner, made a point to personally introduce the restaurant, which added a really special touch. The food absolutely delivered. The yakitori platter was flavorful and perfectly grilled, and the shrimp tempura roll was fresh, light, and beautifully presented. What really sets SHō apart is how intentional everything feels--from the hospitality to the food to the overall atmosphere. It's the kind of place you look forward to returning to!

More of a 3.5 but considering it's quite new, I'll leave it at a 4. It's in a weird little nook area in the middle of downtown McLean, a short walk for me. When you enter, the decor and ambiance is quiet, chilled, and dark. So, probably good for date night. The table arrangement made the already small space even smaller. It just looked very crowded, which wasn't comfortable. We didn't have reservations but we were seated right away as we busted in considerably before dinner time. The sake was good. The list was extensive but the prices were noticeably higher in comparison to other similar restaurants. Service was good but we wouldn't mind if they left the bottle near our table. The food was good. Flavor was deep. The sushi was fresh and well presented. We mostly enjoyed the experience but haven't made it into our regular rounds yet.

The highlight of the meal was the lunch special of squid ink linguini and scallops. It was flavored with a lovely yuzu sauce paired with juicy Hokkaido scallops. It was creamy, rich, but the yuzu shone through as citrusy. The Shomakase was highly anticipated, but a little underwhelming for the price. We expected more of a variety of fish but there were a few repeats and both the appetizer and the sushi hand roll at the end were salmon. The quality of the fish was great, and each flavor pairing was unique and innovative. Restaurant has limited free parking out front in a lot. Recommend making a reservation. Restaurant ambiance is lovely for a lunch or dinner for two as it's a bit on the smaller side. Formal atmosphere but not fine dining.

Tried Sho Sushi & Izakaya and had a solid experience overall. The fact that both the chef and server are Japanese definitely adds authenticity, and you can taste it in the food--everything felt fresh and well-prepared. The sushi quality stood out, especially the fish freshness and clean presentation. Service was attentive without being overbearing, which made the meal feel relaxed and enjoyable. That said, the pricing runs a bit high for what you get. It's good, but not quite at a level where the cost feels fully justified. Overall: 4 -- great quality and authentic vibe, just slightly overpriced.

Literally the best sushi restaurant in Northern VA! I can't speak to the hot dishes since I only got the sushi. The fish in the sushi was so fresh and delicious. The sushi melts in your mouth. I talked to the owner and he said they import the fish from Japan. The service was outstanding! Multiple waiters checked on me frequently, they provided me great recommendations, and they were extremely friendly. The atmosphere was the best part! The decor is modern, the lightening is dim, and the area is quaint. Since the restaurant is small, I would suggest making a reservation. The wine glasses and water glasses were very upscale and delicate! The only downside was there's no bar area.

Well, you got my vote and my loyalty. Place itself is not impressive and service is nice, but not superb. So,I thought on 4 stars, but this food... Wasabi - made in the house, soy sauce- made in the house by chef recipes. Soy sauce is home made!!!! Thick ,complex, tangy and not salty, amazing!!! I ordered sashimi combo this time and it's served with not white lousy rice, but takikomi gohan( please try it). This is one of the most complex flavor combinations in rice I ever had. I felt dashi broth, mirin, tons of veggies and even beans. Sooo nicely served with fish cake flowers on top. Sashimi itself was outstanding, fish selection was excellent, with scallops, squid and freshest cuts of fishes. Previous times I tried rolls and it was amazing as well. So,prices are high, this is not sushi eatery where you can casually grab your lunch. Parking was easy they had some right in the front of the restaurant reserved for customers as well as a garage for more parking spaces if it got crowded. Walking inside it is a small cozy space and because I was by myself I was seated at the sushi bar. I told the sushi maker my food order and the waitress my order for wine. Because you know, they are serving raw fish and those fish are caught by fishermen. If you love sushi, I'm fairly certain you cannot go wrong at Tachibana McLean. It's hard to believe the years I spent here might have been a part of the glory days at Tachibana. When they lost their Itamae and were weathered by covid lockdowns, I think the pace of service changed. But the quality of food never has and I've enjoyed every meal here before and since. This is a classic sushi restaurant so you will not get any sort of innovative fusion rolls here. What you will get is a strict adherence to old school tradition and a focus on quality that is worth a visit. It's hard to say favorite dishes because there are so many delicious choices here. If you are sitting at the main sushi bar, you first may enjoy a free gift of whatever the Ittamae is featuring. If you like that fish, then order more of it. For sushi and sashimi, get what you enjoy here because it's fresh and lovely. Do not miss the Philadelphia rolls here because they are extra creamy and the scallions make them a real delight. I also love the New York roll and the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. Back in the day, my go-to was a spicy, crunchy salmon roll. This was always a special request but they humored me since I was a regular. I was also forever asking for a very thin slice of jalapeño in my tuna roll but you could only get that in the less-friendly and ambient sushi cafe down the street. Years later, times have changed and you can now order jalapeños, as well as tempura crumbs and spicy mayo on any roll. They have so many vegetarian rolls here, as well, so that is a whole experience if choose. You can order Japanese pickles, fermented soybean and scallion rolls, a plum and shiso roll, a gourd roll, a cucumber roll and an avocado roll. I so enjoy a big plate of veggie and shrimp tempura here. The tempura batter is not thick and just right. I also have very much liked the katsu's here: either crispy Berkshire pork loin or crispy chicken. It's an old familiar taste which you should not miss out on. The bento dinner boxes are also awesome. I usually get salmon, beef negimake, shrimp and veggie tempura, shumai dumplings and salmon sashimi. A delightful treat. The buckwheat noodles and udon soups are a bit plain and while they are classically good, i more enjoy the sushi. As for the cold sake, I recommend: the Shochikubai Nigori, the Junmai Ginjo and the cloudy pearl junmai if it's on hand. They also have Choya plum wine and a beer and wine list. You will love the green tea presentation in the gorgeous pottery, as well as that they are diligent on tea refills. Their desserts are nice but make sure you at least taste green tea ice cream once. You can get it here! It's not easy to find this at restaurants, even sushi restaurants, recently.

Fellow Yelpers did not steer us wrong! We ordered Otoro (fatty tuna) and sake belly (salmon belly) sashimi, listed as 3 pieces each. We also ordered tempura udon, a shrimp tempura roll*, takoyaki, and mentaiko butter udon (off the specials menu). Let me begin by saying the space is clean, roomy, and well-decorated. We enjoyed looking at the artwork and figurines, which included anime figures that we recognized. There were many tables, and though they may be physically close together, there is enough separation to be comfortable without being on top of each other or feeling cramped. There was a family of five that was seated next to us partway through the meal, and I never felt like the noise level changed or that we suddenly felt as if there were more people around. The takoyaki came out covered in bonito flakes. The sauce was a perfect blend of tempered spicy mayo as my adventurous eater enjoyed it without being overwhelmed by heat. The bites were well-sized as not to be too large, but we were able to bite in without burning our tongues our with the right balance of batter and octopus, and we both enjoyed it greatly. The sashimi came out with the shrimp tempura roll on a beautifully arranged boat - 4 pieces each! We each tried two pieces of otoro and sake belly, and the pieces just melted into our mouth. The otoro was garnished with what appeared to be hint of wasabi and maybe chopped jalapeño, which was too much for my adventurous eater to try, so I gently scraped it off. Neither of us were able to taste anything but the well-chosen slices of fatty tuna, which were a hit. We then tried the sake belly which were garnished with a sliver of fried garlic and garlic paste. Again, I scraped it off for the adventurous eater, who then raved about how delicious it was! I tried it with the garlic and agreed. The garlic was perfectly fried, and was the right amount not to overwhelm the delicate buttery texture and flavor of the salmon belly. Although, I will admit - while it's a nice flavor to add, the sashimi itself didn't need anything to be added. The tempura udon came out, with perfectly battered pieces - 2 shrimp, an asparagus, an onion ring, a slice of sweet potato, and a slice of eggplant. My adventurous eater attacked the shrimp while I munched on veggies. The batter was crispy, light, and not greasy. My mentaiko butter udon came out and I am so glad I ordered it! There was a little nest of noodles, with two halves of a soft-boiled egg, and plenty of creamy sauce. The menu described the dish as buttery and umami and it did not deceive. The udon was perfectly chewy and slurpable, coated with delicious creamy sauce. I debating mixing in the eggs because they looked so perfect, so I dipped one half in the sauce instead and ate that whole, before mixing in the other half into my bowl. Even my adventurous eater tried a little bit of my udon and agreed that it was delicious! Not having had mentaiko butter before, I looked it up before writing this review. The dish is described as being a spicy-fish roe butter sauce, but what we are talking about is a very mild heat. The dish was warming, tasty, and very comforting. It was also surprisingly light considering the buttery richness of the flavors. I finished every last bit of the noodles in my bowl and drank the rest of the sauce, with all the fish roe stirred in. I may have also commented a couple of times on how phenomenal the dish was. That was when our server shared that it was the first day it had been on the menu, so they were looking for feedback. I would say that the dish alone is worth checking out, but I feel like you will keep coming back due to the quality of everything else. I think this place is a gem and I will definitely look for excuses to return to Oakton to eat there again. Between the friendly service, the cheerful ambiance, and the amazing food, this is hitting all the right notes! * My adventurous eater filled up on everything else before even getting to the shrimp tempura roll, so we ended up packing up the rest of the udon and the shrimp tempura roll to bring home. Due to life, the roll never made it into the fridge, so we tragically had to toss it without trying it. I wish I could tell you how it was, but I can say the roll was beautifully formed and served and looked absolutely delicious. This is where I wish I had taken pictures of everything.

I came here for iftar and honestly had such a great experience at Sushi Koji. We ordered the Sushi…read morefor 2, which came out as a full sushi boat with around 12 different types of sushi and nigiri, and it was way more food than we expected in a good way. I initially thought it would be mostly rolls, but it leaned more toward nigiri. That said, everything was super fresh and really well prepared, so no complaints there. I recently started eating seafood again after years of avoiding it, so I have been easing into it, and this was actually a really good place to do that. The fish tasted fresh, clean, and not overly fishy, which made it a lot easier to enjoy. The Osaka roll, which our server recommended, was really good, but my favorite was definitely the paradise roll from the sushi boat. Anything with shrimp tempura is a win for me, and this one hit the spot. The ambiance is cute, cozy, and on the smaller side, which made the whole experience feel more quiet and intimate. It did not feel rushed at all, which I appreciated, especially since we were breaking our fast. We ended up taking a lot of food to go because the portions were so generous, and surprisingly, everything still tasted fresh and delicious even the next two days. The only downside is that it is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, portions, and overall experience helped justify it. Overall, great quality sushi, generous portions, and a calm, intimate vibe. Definitely a spot I would come back to, especially if I am in the mood for fresh sushi without a loud or hectic atmosphere.

Not as much as parking available (just street or parallel in McLean Metro Station Kiss and Ride lot). It's not a super big place, and was chilly (good for sushi!). I recommend coming for lunch for all the specials! We came on a Friday and got the Salmon Lover (3 salmon nigiri with 2 different salmon rolls [6 pieces each]) for only $19! It came with miso soup and salad. We also tried the 3 sampler special: comes with a wagyu beef nigiri, o-toro, and uni. All of the cuts were refreshing and delicious!! The Taste of Umi is truly AMAZING!!!!! This omakase in a box is very worth it. It can definitely be split between 2 people if you get other items. It come with miso soup and salad. The homemade Umi soy sauce is to DIE FOR!!!! It only comes with the Taste of Umi... it's less salty and more sweet than typical soy sauce. Lunch comes with 6 items versus dinner is 9 items (double the price of lunch).
