Stopped here after doing a quick search for sushi. Walked in, we were seated pretty quickly. Waitress was nice and pleasant. Negative - something floating in my drink, was given a replacement drink but not comped. (It was fountain ginger ale, for the prices we were paying on the food any decent restaurant would come the ginger ale) Anyways - food comes out. We had ordered spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. Out come Hand rolls (there are 3 of us eating, so we can't pass around a hand roll) I got up to use the bathroom, being my first time there I try to make eye contact with a waiter (not our waitress) to ask where the bathroom is. He looked through me and ignored me. I have never seen that in my entire life. Check comes and we are charged for a seaweed salad that we had ordered but never received. We are never disappointed with our experience at Takumi. Whether for lunch or dinner, it's always great service and excellent food! My wife is native to Taiwan, and she lived in Japan for several years. So finding an authentic, high-quality Chinese / Japanese Restaurant in Delaware region isn't easy. But the Miso soup, sushi and other selections all rate very high with her. Soup with your entree is a small cup; the wonton soup has just one, lonely wonton ...disappointing if you're like me and prefer multiple wontons. Entree portions are a decent size, but not as generous as other restaurants. Efficient, friendly service. The atmosphere lends itself to a quieter dining experience especially in the evening. I'll be honest this has no flavor, and was SO tiny- maybe 2 bites each. We ordered sushi for dinner- the rolls we chose were the Philly cream roll, the dragon roll and the danger roll. Awful experience start to finish. Do not waste your money here. Arrived to pick up my order and had to stand outside in the cold (along with about 8 others) for about 15 minutes before i could even speak to the person "running the takeout orders" only to be told they did not have my order. I showed my confirmation text and email and provided my order number and was told okay well it'll be about 10 mins. About 25 minutes later I'm given my order, almost an hour and a half after ordering. Okay they looked busy, accidents happen, I'll cut them some slack. Well, we get home and open our sushi up and to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Honestly I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves. The "spider roll" had this dried out discolored foul smelling meat and had this yellow mush that you see when you pick crabs. It was inedible. Moving on, "Shrimp tempura" was soggy and we all laughed out loud because I felt like we were being punked. The size of the shrimp in the roll was literally smaller than my pinky nail. Had zero flavor and was just gross. We didn't even finish a lot of the other rolls out of legitimate fear we were going to get sick, it was that bad. Surely this experience can't get worse right? Wrong. I call and speak with the manager and explain our experience offer up photos of the rolls and request a refund for just the rolls that we found to be inedible. She in turn tells me I'm lying, says well we were busy as if that's an excuse to sell a bad product and has the nerve to say "well it's COVID times and so what's $100 out of your pocket, we're struggling!! " Excuse me, what?? She offers to give us a complimentary spider and shrimp tempura roll next time. I say no thank you i will not be coming back i would simply like a refund for those items. She refuses say no it's impossible to refund because my cards already been charged. I ask if she's able to issue a cash refund and that I'd be willing to drive back out to pick it up. At this point she's screaming over me insinuating I'm lying and says "yeah right how about if it was so bad you bring it all in and I'll give you double your money back". So they forced us to pack the sushi up pick stuff out of the trash to drive back out at 9:00 at night and show it to them. We get there and she calls all the chefs over and we simply ask them if this was in fact an order that they were proud of, seeing it all in front of them to which they say yes. He insists the stinky mushy crab guts are supposed to be in there. All this hassle they have now put us through to only get refunded for the 4 rolls we couldn't eat. It was honestly one of the most wild experiences and sorry for the saga post but there was a lot to recap. She kept saying we've been never had anyone ever complain and we noticed that there were also about 5 other people who wrote negative reviews last night alone, so it definitely seems we were not an isolated incident. I'm giving this restaurant a two-part review the first part has to do with the hostess. In this case I would give 0 Stars. mother and I went here for Christmas dinner. She made reservations over 2 weeks ago and when we arrived the hostess attempted to see this at a four-top table right by the bathroom. There were three other four top tables available. I asked her if we could be seated at one of the other tables further in the restaurant( more desirable to us). She told me no because they were reserved for 4 people. I asked what was the difference, she was seating the two of us at a four-top. I had to run to the bathroom when I return my mother was sitting at one of the more desirable tables. She simply asked a waitress if we could move to another table and the waitress accommodated us. From that moment until we left I will give the experience 4 stars. The waitress was attentive, explain things well, made recommendations. We will return. It's unfortunate that the hostess wasn't more hospitable. Went to Takumi for the first time at the recommendation of a friend. Although soup is not on the menu, we asked about them and was told they DO have soup, so my husband decided to order a small wonton soup. It came with ONE wonton, which was about the size of a rubber ball. We asked the server and she said, Yes, a small comes with one wonton (a large comes with 5). They have to realize that putting one tiny wonton in their soup is offputting. Although the sushi was relatively good (although a bit high priced), it put the restaurant in such a bad light, I will not go back. Poor customer-facing decision! read more

This business was formerly called Utage. I stopped into Takumi last night with my best friend and his folks. To start with, the staff was helpful and friendly. The prices were reasonable, though not exactly cheap. Then again, I felt like we received quite a value for the money. I had the Curry Udon, which I found delicious, and shared a Black Dragon Roll and another roll - the name of which I'm forgetting, but I remember it being tasty. I also tried a Ramune soda which was fun, though not exactly to my personal taste. Overall, I got the impression that everyone left well filled, happy, and more than willing to return again in the future. I'm totally cheating on Sushi Sumo but Takumi is about 2 miles up the road from my job and their happy hour conveniently falls during my lunch break (shhhh! Don't tell anyone about my martini lunches). I actually came here for dinner with my brother the other night. Decor is nice but as a rule of thumb we always sit at the sushi bar whenever we go for sushi. I enjoy watching them make my sushi and it ensures you get better service. We both had two sushi roles, and of course I can't remember the names of them. I do remember the Volcano roll, because I thought it had too much sauce on it but was very good otherwise. Everything else was good good good. We then ordered the house made dumplings and ya know I love me some dumplings though I'm use to the $1 variety of LES, NYC. The skin on the dumplings was perfection...like no seriously, the last thing you want is to bite in a dumping with a thick skin.This dumpling had a thin skin that was nice and crispy and held together the contents, only downside was they were a bit on the greasy side. I prefer mine lightly fried, just enough oil on the bottom of the pan.These seemed to have been steeped in the frying oil. Oh yes, I also had a cocktail (or two) one that was made with the pear sake and the mochatini. Drinks here are made well (as in strong) and tasty. They will be seeing me again. read more

This place is THE most authentic ive had in all of Wilmington, our table ordered approx 8 dishes and all of them were absolutely delicious. FOOD: The chicken w/hot dry peppers was the biggest hit, honorable mentions include the beef fried udon, the string beans dish, broccoli with garlic sauce, and shredded pork. PRICE: the chic decor and quality of the food made me expect a large bill. our party of 10 left with stuffed tummies for less than $10 ea. insane. the only beef i have with this place are the small rice portions (everyone in the table had to order 2 bowls), and it the service was slightly slower than normal (possibly being there was only one waitress serving at the time?) They are apparently under new management and have made major improvements. - Decor: Big windows and open. No longer feels like you are eating in a submarine. (Although the bar closest to the door is closed off and dark, but I am there to eat so I stick to the dining room). - Food/Value: They now serve both Japanese and Chinese cuisine. Bottom line, very good sushi at reasonable prices. "Little Mermaid". Stupid name, great roll! If you like that other sushi place in the city of Wilmington then odds are you will like Takumi. I have had the best Sushi that can be found in Washington, DC, San Francisco and San Jose, CA, and just about anywhere else in the country you can find good Sushi. I have also had excellent Sushi in Tokyo and Kyoto Japan. I have had my share of mediocre and poor Sushi too, so I know what I am talking about here. This place was incredible. It is, by a long shot, the best Sushi I have ever had. It was so good that we canceled our plans to eat somewhere else the second night of our trip and went back for more. The fish was incredibly fresh and the finest cuts (the Tuna was so translucent you could tell from the top which of the pair had more wasabi). The Toro (which was on special) was as good as the best I have had and was only $5 per piece (I have easily spent 3 times as much for Toro that was not as good). The small plate appetizers were also amazing (we had the Tuna Takaki and the "Smokee 2" the first night, ordered "Smokee 2" again the second night and the Sashimi Spring roll. I would eat any again every day, but the Smokee 2 was incredible. Hand smoked salmon and yellow tail, layered on glass noodles and each piece had a different kind of fish egg on top and a delicious sauce that was just there enough to taste, but not overpowering. The other amazing dish was the salmon skin salad. This was a nice green salad with a subtle ginger dressing topped with pieces of grilled salmon skin that were sliced with just enough meat to give a little soft texture to contrast with the crispy skin. It was like Salmon Bacon. It was not inexpensive, but for the quality I would say it was priced correctly (2 people, with Sake and ordering more than we should have for ~$100. You could certainly spend less with a little more care, but it was a celebration dinner, so we threw caution to the wind). Although I am raving about the Sushi, this would also be a good place to take friends who don't like (or are afraid of eating) Sushi. They have a small number of Chinese and Korean items on the menu as well. Menu is on their web site. Decor was pleasant, and the staff were friendly and attentive. We went here for dinner last night. It was surprisingly not too busy for a Saturday night. The waitresses were very pleasant and attentive. We really only came for sushi, so I can't comment about the other dishes. Our meal started with seaweed salad which was your standard seaweed salad. The sushi in general was quite yummy. Good proportion of rice to fillers and the prices weren't bad either. Our sushi rolls by rank: 1. Orange Blossom: This roll was our favorite and it was packed full of yummy goodness. Highly recommended! 2. Little Mermaid: this roll was interesting with shrimp tempura and avocado inside and topped with a crabstick-spicy mayo-tobiko combo. Overall, very yummy. 3. Sweet potato: this one was ok. The sweet potato was a little undercooked and overall it was a little plain. 4. Spangle: This was out least favorite roll. I don't even remember what was on the inside, but the top was dusted with this dried powdered seaweed that was just so salty that it was somewhat unpleasant. This is probably one of the most extensive menus I've seen for a Japanese restaurant as they have all sorts of dishes and rolls I haven't seen at other places. Apparantely the owners are from Japan and incorporated more Japanese dishes and appetizers that for some reason, all sound fun to try. The sushi was pretty good, but the entrees that I tried were about okay. The food is noce, but I can honestly say that I have had better. In fact, Jasmine's, which is maybe about five miles further down Route 202 is better. The sushi rolls were delicious. The Volcano had nice kick to it. The Crispy Chicken was definitely the most spiciest dish on our table. While I enjoyed it, it was pretty dry. I expected something with sauce. The food was decent, nothing memorable really (thus the three-star review), pretty much what I would expect from a restaurant in the corner of a strip mall. After reading all of the reviews about the sushi here on Yelp, I returned a few months later and gave it a try. I do not doubt that it is one the best, if not the best sushi places in Delaware (I've not heard good things about Mikimoto's) but it was average at best, and more expensive than comparable places I have had in Los Angeles (lack of competition in DE no doubt places a role in the higher prices).
