Extremely skilled surgeon, but total lack of compassion by and very unprofessional behavior of staff. This is my reply to the business's reply to my original review. I am writing this to clarify and provide additional information on my experience, both positive and negative. My original review was brief and provided both positive and negative comments. I received their"reply" via a threatening call from the practice manager, via email, and in Yelp. Most SHOCKINGLY, however, the practice manager called a board member of a rescue organization I've volunteered for since 2014 to complain about my review. Sadly, under any circumstance, this would be considered HARASSMENT. First and foremost, I'm forever THANKFUL to Dr Snyder for saving Bella's life. SHE'S EXCELLENT! She is a very skilled surgeon, and her treatment plan was conservative. Instead of performing surgery immediately, she kept Bella overnight, giving her fluids to see if the mass would pass through her GI system. There were absolutely no postoperative complications, and Bella is healthy again. In addition, the area where the pets are housed was immaculate, organized and well staffed. In addition, as I wrote in my original review, the reception staff is fantastic. Unfortunately the tech and management staff is extremely poor, to the point I was harassed and harangued. The following is the reply to my review with my reply comments in parentheses throughout: "Bella's case required emergency surgery to remove a significant amount of grass, fur, and rodent material from her stomach -- a painful condition that understandably made her reactive." (Bella was lost for 5 weeks and understandably terrified bc she had been surviving outside. Aside from the compassionate reception staff, the staff was unable to process and did not acknowledge this fact. This reflects a lack of sufficient training.) "Our team handled her carefully and safely, which sometimes means compassion looks more like caution than comfort." (Bc they lacked training to handle a pet in distress per their order that I not open the cage to comfort Bella prior to surgery and continued reference to her as very aggressive, I can only assume their interaction with Bella was minimal if at all when she wasn't anesthetized.) "Post-surgical care instructions were sent the same day and reviewed over the phone prior to discharge." (Post surgical care was NOT reviewed with me over the phone. The extent of the vet tech's interaction with me when she brought Bella to me following surgery was to tell me how aggressive she was. When I asked about the plastic bag in the carrier pocket filled with a blackish substance the size of a tennis ball, the tech said it was Bella's stomach contents, ordered me not to open it there, and commented that it smelled so bad they had to freeze it. When I returned to the vet to ask about after care, a member of the amazing reception staff took the time to retrieve and give me a copy of these instructions. During Bella's recheck appointment, the tech chastised me for using a surgery recovery suit and a pillow post-surgery collar instead of an Elizabethan one. In fact, she refused to touch the suit and instructed me to remove it bc Talega vet only uses Elizabethan collars.) read more

***UPDATING 1 star - Really disappointed with the sudden policy change We were happy clients and loved this clinic at first. In April, during our dog's first visit, the vet knew we were moving and recommended we fill his Simparica Trio and Trazodone prescriptions through Chewy to save money. So we did. Fast forward to July, our dog's healthy and up to date, but now the clinic refuses to approve prescriptions through Chewy--even though they still have access and could do it. They told me they won't, and their only options were to pay over 50% more through their new pharmacy or pay for a new vet visit, which is unnecessary. At first, they said they would price match, but when we gave them Chewy's price, they backpedaled and said they couldn't match it. I expressed that I understand their position, especially since missing a heartworm dose isn't an option, but it's frustrating how they went from trying to help us save money to wanting us to overpay. On top of that, we had a personal emergency during all this, but we've stayed ahead to ensure we don't miss any doses. They said this change happened in May, but they filled our Chewy order in May with the Trazodone they prescribed. When I pointed this out, they acted like it was my fault. No empathy, no flexibility, no real support. I find it hard to believe they didn't know in April or beginning of May that they were switching, why even recommend it? I also understand they send email blasts apparently but they end up in people's spam folders. Chewy has been great, offering to keep their discount and even cover mailing costs when I sent in the prescription myself. They're just making it that much more difficult for us to care for our dog. All we want is to fill our dog's prescriptions without the runaround and without being price gouged. Very disappointing. I hope they reconsider how they handle these changes so other pet owners aren't put in this position. It honestly is not that difficult. read more

I have been taking my dogs to Talega for the last 6 months and I've always had great experiences, especially with Dr Snyder and the way she handles and interacts with my dogs. I had an emergency with one of my dogs today and Dr Snyder and her team were able to take us in within an hour of calling, were very sweet with my dog who can be reactive, and provided me several tests and options for next steps. The facility is always very clean, calm, and never crowded. read more

I've been taking my pets to Talega Animal Hospital pretty much since it opened. It was great in the early years, had a turn for the worse and has now re-emerged with a new owner/vet and it couldn't be better. Staff is friendly and compassionate and Dr. Snyder is available and listens to your concerns, knowledgeable and most importantly is a great advocate for your animal. We've been with this establishment for about 8 years. Two different dogs have been patients here. Went in for a well visit because my dog needed a flu shot, now required by her groomer. After expressing concern about a cyst on my dog's back, vet began to squeeze it in front of me. The contents of the cyst went all over, which I felt was not only uncomfortable for me to witness (any type of procedure is typically done out of sight) but unsanitary. In the coming days my dog obsessively licked that area causing another visit to the vet for a now sizable open wound. Surgery was necessary and was expensive. Had to make another stop to the vet to pick up medicine they'd neglected to give me, but already charged me. My dog received an alarming number of staples. Not only did the vet not take the time to call and follow up after surgery that evening, as any vet/doctor I've ever experienced has done after a procedure of any type, my dog never received that flu shot which was the initial reason for the well visit. Not impressed at all. It seems they have no idea what they are doing there. We are definitely going to seek care elsewhere. read more

I always get great service here! My cattledog is a fiesty girl and they are so accommodating and I could not be more appreciative of their willingness to work with her despite her being spicy. They take her for boarding and give her calming meds to help ease her nerves. Dr. Snyder is great, super kind and always willing to hear the whole picture of what's going on and come up with a game plan together. I appreciate the mom and pop feel of this vet. It's a super clean facility but they also have a small town feel that calms my nerves when bringing my dog in. This place was amazing!! From the initial phone call to the visit itself. I found Talega because the Dr. who owns the practice posted an "ask me anything" on a Facebook group I'm in and I thought that was really cool of her. Long story short we drive 30minutes from home and we're not disappointed. Well worth the drive. The girl that checked us in was super sweet and great, happy and welcoming attitude. The Vet Tech was nice. The Dr. took her time, sat in the floor to help my dog warm up to her!! They don't pressure you to do a full work up and radiology before treatment, upon initial physical exam she could tell it wasn't anything serious and gave options. We definitely found where we will be taking our animals for care moving forward!! Side note: I cannot express enough how amazing the girl at the front was!! read more

Dr. Wood assisted us in having to let go of our very much loved boxer yesterday. She was more than empathetic and understanding, allowing as much time as we needed to be with Ginger before saying goodbye. Dr. Wood was very thorough in explaining what our dog was experiencing, allowing us to make the decision. The staff at the animal hospital were outstanding and attentive. They also handled my dog in a slightly aggressive way that I did not appreciate, while taking him to the back for gland expression, and put a muzzle on my dog without asking me or letting me know until after they had done it. They have a totally different staff now including front office. Dr. Whipple is no longer there. Dr. Caitlin Snyder is very pleasant, professional and very thorough. Lauren the groomer is wonderful! My issue is that they are very short staffed and not as responsive as I would like. It's very hard to get in promptly for an appointment also which is unacceptable when your pet is sick. The front office girls are not very efficient and do not follow through with tasks without prompting and phone calls from me. I have been wondering if they even care about my pet! I was told by one of the front office girls that they are short staffed and I should understand that. I told her that this is not my problem as I am paying for a service from them. My dog is rapidly loosing weight and I feel like they (front office girls) did not see the urgency in helping him. * In response to the message from Robyn, office manager, I would like to say that I have no complaints about Dr. Snyder. As I said, she was very pleasant, professional and very thorough in her treatment of my dog. The staff here are so gentle and friendly, my dog actually gets excited to go in when she recognises the building as we pull into the car park because she knows she'll get fusses from everyone :) My dog was a rescue and was originally boarded here by the rescue group. The level of care they gave her went above and beyond. I'll never forget how they went all out for out for adoption day, they even gave our new girl a bath so she smelt amazing and she was so happy I could tell she really trusted everyone at the clinic. They've always taken all our requests into consideration and have taken the time to show us how to use the medication. I can tell all the staff really care about the animals. read more

Talega animal hospital is the horror story vet. They commit to shady business transactions instead of caring for your pet. Avoid this place at all costs. Their attempt at sleight of hand to upsell me on treatment resulted in my dog getting a vaccine that it just received 4 months ago. I brought my dog to receive 4 injections to get them to date. They came back with a bill for 5 injections + 5 services I not the vet even brought up! After 3 iterations, I still didn't see that there was a 5th vaccine that THEIR RECORDS showed she didn't need. Like I said, they care more about the bill than the treatment. This is literally criminal. Imagine if it was a treatment that could have been harmful. read more

Tried out Talega for grooming my two dogs, convenient since they get their shots and it is best as a "one stop shopping" WOW, from making the appointments with the very professional receptionist to discussing the grooming with Lauren all went perfect. Lauren is new, she recommended some minor style adds as she has a lot of experience. We gave her the green light and it turned out very nice! My neighbors noticed the changes and asked if we are preparing to show my dogs. My wife loves the convenience and we are going to use this service always. A teeth cleaning when your pup is 14 is a little scary as they are put under. The Doctor was easily available before and after procedure to answer questions. My pup went through with flying colors. She had bone loss and bacteria was getting in around the gum line of 3 small teeth in the front so they were extracted. She also had a few warts removed also. Got a call as soon as they were done for a pupdate. I highly recommended them. read more

My dog jumped off a small retaining wall and landed wrong and was in obvious pain. I took her to Talega animal hospital mid day on a Wednesday. Not one car in the lot. I explained my situation and the response I got from the front desk receptionist was appalling. Well we can get her in to see a vet next Monday. HUH? Zero effort to get me in. Not one person was in the waiting area to see any one. After my second request, the receptionist said "well I guess I can go check and see if someone will see your dog". She came back a couple minutes later with a "nope, sorry, can't get you in" Guess they have so much business that they don't want new patients, although it sure doesn't look like it based On the empty waiting area I ended up taking my dog to another San Clemente vet who's staff recognized the situation and got me right in. read more

This place has gone down hill recently. Have been going there for years and am very disappointed with last visit. They did not even review dogs records as to what was current and what was needed before giving an estimate of services for visit. 1 Dog was current on everything except for vaccine and flea meds. They did not know that and were going to add on blood blood work. 2nd dog had to have full physical and vaccine. Vet said they thought heard heart murmurer and said needed to go to specialist to get eco and made it sound like life and death event. Knew she had a faint murmurer and have been watching her. They also no longer do non anesthesia dog teeth cleaning. Now only do with anesthesia, which my do has never had to do before. Am definitely looking for new vet since Dr, Whipple is no longer there. read more

Amazing staff. Dr Snyder keeps you informed and you're listened to the whole time. They help look through options that are affordable to the care that is needed. One of the workers named Jesse is phenomenal and very friendly along with another lady with short hair (can't remember name). Also got my dog groomed by Kayleen, I believe her name is, and she completely blew our minds. Our dog came from a shelter with anxiety and epilepsy and she was patient and worked with him when he got comfortable. He feels so much better after his bath and shave and looks even better. This animal hospital is excellent! I highly recommend them! We live in laguna niguel and there are some that are closer that I have been to but this one I fine is the very best ! The Veterinarian, Dr. Snyder and her staff are compassionate, knowledgeable and clearly love what they do. I have come in twice in the past 6 months, both in emergency situations and Dr.Snyder was amazing! She is highly knowledgeable and skilled at her profession. Most of all you can see she has a heartfelt passion to help animals, and their families. On a side note, this establishment does not gouge the pet owner, Dr.Snyder does what is necessary to help your pet get the care it needs without having a large cost to the owner. I took my puppy (11 lbs) for his first ever dog grooming. It was a horrible and traumatic experience for my dog and the family. They shaved him bold in some areas and left balls of hair In others. He looked like a sick / rescued animal. They did not trim his head and paws. They did not bath him afterwards, so he was full of hair at pick up. They did not cut his nails. I can go on for a long time. Additionally, they quoted me $65 to $75. They charged me $95 and only showed me my puppy after I paid. This was a HORRIBLE experience. The staff was demeaning and talking to my kids and I as if we are idiots. FYI, I am literally speaking a rocket scientist... I most definitely will never go back and do not recommend this place. read more

Dr. Woods seems very nice and competent, however, she recommended that I have my dogs teeth cleaned since she'd have to be under anesthetic for removal of several warts. When I was quoted the cost for the teeth cleaning, it would be nearly $2000....that in addition to a $400 charge for blood tests, and whatever they would charge for removing 3 warts. Way overpriced since my regular vet in Costa Mesa (Costa Mesa Animal Hospital) quoted $500). I do have to say that the facility in Talega is quite nice. After talking to several friends who quoted similar work being done at different vets for between $400 and $800. read more
