Excellent experience the other day. Moved to SC and needed a vet. Of course I found him on Yelp. My dog was urinating every 10 minutes and drinking water about as often I knew most likely it was a UTI, but was concerned mind you my dog doesn't go to the vet. I treat her like I treat my children. The modern medical system is a trashcan and we are not a part of it, including our dog. I digress. The doctor was very friendly, the nurse was wonderful and he suspected the same thing. We did a quick urine test, which I dropped off later that day and he gave us antibiotics on the spot. Easy Peezy. And all for under $200. There's a reason this place has good reviews. We're very used to a more modern looking veterinary animal office, however, that's a culture and concept we've been used to at our previous clinic. But the thing I've realised is that it's not so important; the care of our dog is of utmost importance. We changed clinics due to a big move from Hawaii, and we actually prefer Avenida over our veterinary clinic there, as our dog is always under the care of one vet, Dr Amin, and that feels very comforting. Dr Amin is a freakin genius! My 12 year old pug was so sick last week he was on his deathbed. My only question was whether to put him to sleep or let him die at home. I took him to Dr Amin who gave him all the necessary tests. He diagnosed him with severe liver problems, enlarged spleen , enlarged gallbladder and infection. I had a great experience at this vet a few days ago. I feel compelled to share because I read the bad reviews before visiting and I have to say they can't be true. Dr. Amin was very kind and gentle with my dog who is typically afraid of men and he wasn't uncomfortable with Dr Amin at all! We have had to leave a male vet in the past because my dog wouldn't let him near him. Besides that making me happy, he went through each of my previous vet records one by one with me to try and pinpoint why this skin problem my dog has keeps coming back. I have taken him for this same issue at least 10 times in his 4 years of life and every vet has done the exact same regime and then it comes back about 6 months after healing. Dr Amin took a completely different approach and I felt like he was the first vet to step outside of the cookie cutter treatment for this skin condition (which obviously hasn't worked). Lastly, I wanted to share that although this has nothing to do with how pleased I am, I saw multiple reviews that said he wont give you medication until you pay. I was given everything I needed in the exam room before checking out, and even if I wasn't, I don't think there's anything wrong with expecting payment before prescription medication is given to a patient. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR DOGS SKIN TO FALL OFF AND GET INFECTED!! This place sucked the life out of my dog. I wish we could leave 0 stars. This is so disappointing as we are people who feel like our dog is apart of our family, so if this was a human this would be medical malpractice. Our dog received surgery over a month ago because we were concerned that the fatty lumps he had were cancerous. The vet removed the lumps surgically, and the incision on his hind leg was done horizontally not vertically, going against the natural movement of the leg. we trusted this doctor, and a month later our dog is still stuck in a cone, his stitches have not healed and he's on so many medications he can't walk properly and his eyes droop. our dog is high energy, happy and playful and over the last month we have watched him became sad and depressed, as if this has aged him 15 years. After returning to this vet for him to fix his mistake, his stitches have continued to come out, even while my dog is on pain medicine to the point where he doesn't greet me when i come home like he usually does. Now, over a month later, his stitches are infected, swollen and it looks like his skin is falling off. We have gotten several second opinions and the vets said that this doctor should never have done this surgery, and instead should've aspirated the lumps using a needle and biopsied them and then decide whether surgery was necessary or not. other doctors have also said that this dr shouldn't have done a horizontal incision due to the nature of the leg. This is absolutely disgusting treatment and i couldn't image doing inadequate work that left an animal miserable for extended periods of time. everyone at this office should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this treatment to occur. they took advantage of us when we came to them seeking expert advice and we will never be returning here and we advice you don't either. read more

After going from vet to vet looking for the appropriate treatment for my dog's intestinal issues without having to hear the only options to treat his diagnosis was going to cost me over 5k I found Dr Amin. Dr. Amin at Avenida Animal Hospital totally saved the day with our cat. Our cat is 4 years old and had really bad teeth, apparently a genetic issue. We had noticed he was a little more sluggish than normal and had real bad breath. I didn't think it was a big deal, but thankfully my wife was more attune to how our cat was feeling. We got a few assessments and the first couple local places were super high. Probably more than I've spent on dental in my lifetime. I found another local place that was reasonable, but they actually cancelled last minute-both times! By then we had waited a while and so my wife found Avenida Animal Hospital and they were able to see us right away. Dr. Amin was very friendly and caring with our cat. He assessed our cat while we watched and our poor kitty had severely decayed teeth and one broke off by slightly touching it. I had no idea it was that bad, but I knew for sure we needed to get this done "today". He prepared the estimate and I braced myself for the worst. Well, the price was the lowest than all the other available places and Dr. Amin was able to do it same day. This meant so much to us because we were in a vulnerable situation yet totally felt Dr. Amin understood our situation and helped us. We are so appreciative of Dr. Amin and his staff for their support and care of our cat. We have definitely found our go-to vet in San Clemente and will be bringing our other cat as well. We have been going to Dr Amin for over 10 years. With every dog we have had he takes genuine care. Just recently we got home and my dog was lethargic and had a fever I called right before closing and he said he would see our dog and waited for us to arrive, even though the front desk already went home. He gave us some antibiotics and a by Monday he was feeling better. If he had not stayed for us we would have ended up in Urgent care on a Friday Night. Pet owners beware! We had a horrible experience at Avenida Animal Hospital. We were told they accept our animal insurance (in advance) then told it was not good for vaccines. Fair enough, right? It wasn't until our fourth visit at the end of January when we presented the card for another service that they magically "didn't take it anymore since the first of the year". This didn't seem accurate. Being between a rock and a hard place with my puppy in pain for a severe ear infection, I paid and decided to verify this when I got home. Long story short, according the insurance company, they have been part of this insurance group for several years and it wasn't until after I spoke to them about the disputed charges/experience that they canceled the service the next day. Upon digging into this, the insurance company also confirmed that it DOES cover vaccines and they blatantly lied and stole extra money from us in not honoring the insurance discount required. Lastly, our puppy was itching his ears for 5 weeks. After one week we had the doc check the ears and he said they were all clear, a month later he was still itching more than normal and again this doctor said no problem with his ears. About a week and a half later (week 5) he was in even more pain and we took him back in. Now, because he didn't swab and check for bacteria the last two times, my puppy had a severe and horrible bacteria infection that required 3 medications and a strict cleaning regiment. The insurance company is mortified and has been very accommodating to us. I tried to resolve this with them directly to no avail. He even promised to make it right with a partial refund and when I showed up to collect the check, he said he would not be returning the agreed upon amount. The worst part of all this is that my puppy was suffering for 5 weeks because in our opinion was not thoroughly examined. Please be aware of this place and if your dogs ears are itching for weeks, there probably is a problem and get a second opinion. Lesson learned for us.
