Going down I-5 S and found Talking Cedar Brewing in Gran Mound, WA. The staff is friendly and inviting. Ordered the cheeseburger. The burger was good and worth returning for. The french fries were stone cold. When I told the server about the fries, his only comment was "yeah, they come out like that, I'll let the kitchen know." The server offered to replace the fries but I refused. Why would I ask for another order of fries when the server admits that all fries coming out are cold? I may return and IF I do, I will ask if I can substitute the fries for something else, like a salad or something. read more

Our first time here was spectacular! We ordered the blackened salmon Sammie & the fried chicken Sammie with poutine. We weren't aware the sammies we got came with fries so it was a bit much. Luckily we have an air fryer so the fries didn't go to waste. We also got a growler with a raspberry blonde which officially trumps my previous fave brew from a place out in Tacoma. Service was great. We had a pupper so we asked if the patio was open to sit at, unfortunately at the time (1040am) they weren't servicing that area yet. I walked around outside with our pup while my husband went in to place the order to go. After he placed the order the host said we could sit on the patio while we wait as lunch doesn't start until 11am. While we chilled on the patio, the host was sweet enough to bring us our drinks, much appreciated. She kept apologizing that we weren't going to be getting service on the patio. We assured her it was okay, we were more than happy just chillin while we wait. It was a beautiful day so being outside felt great. Once our meals got to us we headed back to the car, drove to the back of the parking lot (because we live in Oly so there was no taking the meal home or anything) and had a moment with our meals. I got the blackened salmon mentioned above. I typically always go for a burger, most like with shrooms on it, or fish & chips at places like this. I was feeling a little spicy so I opted for the fish Sammie. You simply do not care about yourself if you do not order this at least once. My husband got the fried chicken Sammie, he was very happy with it. The chicken wasn't dry or anything. Nicely done. We came back the following weekend. This time we got the pulled pork Sammie & the chicken melt. I'll admit, both of them would not have been a good first impression. The chicken melt was dry, the pulled pork while really good and very tender itself, it was entirely missing the apply coleslaw that was mentioned in the description. It's affordable, the drinks are strong, the staff is really nice and on the ball, and the music is at an ambience level rather than having to yell to hear someone sitting two feet from you. Really good sized restaurant fitted in a huge parking lot. Hard to miss from the road. Really cool entrance that is surrounded numerous racks of unique hard alcohol bottles and other knicks and knacks. Lots of spacious seating and booths in an atmosphere that resembles a modern log cabin. Food wise, the beer cheddar soup we started with was nice and thick, cheesy, with a little bite and texture from the bacon and green onions. I think I could drink a gallon of it if my stomach could handle it. We also ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer. I honestly don't like pickles but for what it was, it was well made. The pickles were all evenly sliced and well coated with a good amount of seasoning. The sauce tasted like it had a sour cream base. Really enjoyed it and ended up pouring what was left on our other food. The kids had the Mac and cheese with slice pears. It was bland but presentation was nice. The showstopper was the chicken fried steak I had. Really moist and crispy with a small kick. There was a generous amount of savory gravy. Husband had a few beers and enjoyed them all. This place may be our staple the next time we stay at Great Wolf Lodge and need a good lunch/dinner! read more

This place is close to the hotel we were staying at so decided to give it a try. Gluten free buns available for all burgers and sandwiches. I had a gluten feee French dip and it was very good. We were a large group 4 adults and 2 toddlers. Never been to the restaurant prior to this visit. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable on beer when asked regarding a lite not heavy beer. Her recommendation was very enjoyable and we bought a six pack to go. Everyone enjoyed their meals fish and chips, pork chops, pulled pork and mashed potatoes, pasta and kids loved chicken strips and fries. The fries were awesome. Talking Cedar is tough to review. I really like the alcohol, but find the food very hit or miss. When it comes to the actual entrees, they are priced ok, not too expensive, not under priced. The issue with the entrees is they are inconsistent. Some are ok, some are just bad. I find their appetizers pretty good. The pickle chips are really one of my favorite things to eat there. And we have had a few other apps to were ok to good. The reason to stop by honestly is the alcohol. They have excellent beer and serve Heritage liquor. They make pretty solid mixed drinks with it. Plus I would recommend grabbing a growler fill of liquor. Its a bit more expensive the first time around, but a lot cheaper the subsequent visits. Its a cool spot and we will be back for sure, but we will most likely stick to the apps. read more

Ambiance is nice and server was polite but service was slow and we were 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it was a very thin piece of chicken that wasn't seasoned and over cooked. I could also taste the old oil and fish on the chicken. The meal comes with fries but it it is all served on a plastic slate made to look like a piece of stone, so the fries were falling off and you had nowhere to put ketchup. Once the food was out, we didn't see the server until we were done and ready for the check, so we never got refills on our drinks. After the hour you think just a little longer. Extra long wait watching others who came after going, eating and leaving. We had the rehearsal dinner for our daughter's wedding here and it was a great event. They gave us our own section of the patio and a dedicated server named Daniel who was AMAZING. I had reserved space for 30 people but somehow a few more were invited along and we ended up with a much larger group, more than any one server should have to be responsible for. People arrived at various times over the course of an hour, they were meeting and greeting and milling around so it was VERY chaotic. Daniel stayed calm, kept track of who was who, got all of the orders straight and somehow managed to get food delivered to everyone at almost all the same time with very little waiting. On top of all that he was very attentive to details and checked in on everyone throughout the meal. At one point I finished my drink and set it down on the table, then looked again a minute later and it was full! He was like a stealth waiter! Thank you, Daniel, for making our family event great! This is a fairly regular stop for me, every Sunday or so, in their restaurant/brewery that's next to the Travel Lodge. They have a good food selection and also a good inventory of brews and hard liquor to try. I especially like their big garden salad. It's got a variety of greens and other fresh vegetables, a far cry from your typical "salad mix". Their Pacific Northwest IPA is especially good as well. The service is friendly and attentive, just what you want when eating out. Though some of the other food items, while also very good, are rather expensive, I rate this diner a good four stars. read more

This was disappointing. We were seated quickly and our waiter was quick to tell us he'd be with us as soon as he could. My friend and I split a French dip with fries and each got a cup of beer cheese soup. The French dip and fries were yummy but the soup was gross. Not even lukewarm which made the texture grainy. After clearly indicating we were done eating with napkins and credit cards on the table it took another 15 minutes to catch our waiter's eye so we could cash out. Would love to give this restaurant 5 stars. We tried the fried chicken dinner last night in the form of carry out. The green beans were done properly, mashed potatoes very good and the chicken had an excellent flavor and texture. The problem was how it was boxed up. The beans were tossed into the box then mashed potato and gravy. The chicken was put on top of this then drizzled with gravy. The effect was much like a KFC bowl. A mess covered in gravy. I think they should come up with proper packaging and the food would be better for it. Presentation is important. read more

YESSS!!!! What a great spot! We are huge fans of all things Heritage Distillery with many stops to the Gig Harbor location. This place is awesome. Super friendly staff, fantastic drink, well thought menu, great food.. Couldn't say enough great things about this stop on our adventure. Only thing I'd recommend is when you order a peach 75 change from vodka to gin. A traditional French 75 is a gin drink and the switch stood up to the peach a little better. First I have to say the food was very good, nice menu with variety. I had a cup of tomato soup and a wedge salad and my husband had the Cubano sandwich. Both meals were very good. We ate in the bar, good atmosphere. COVID related, they could have done a lot better. The wait staff in the bar were all wearing their masks incorrectly. The bartenders top lip was showing and his mask was useless. They were seating people at the bar which is a no no at this time. The customers wore their masks in the front door and then they were removed, didn't even wait until they sat down. I have lived in Thurston County my entire life, I know this is tribal land and they don't have to abide by state laws but if you are not confortable with a very lax policies on masks this might not be the place for you right now. read more
