    Lemon Drop Martini

In town for a night on business, was looking for a nice dinner and a cocktail. The Shire Bar & Bistro did not disappoint. The Cajun salmon was delicious, and the lemon drop martini with fresh squeezed lemon juice was amazing. Great casual atmosphere. Will definitely return if I'm in area again.

Wow. Such a disappointment.... I always say Yelpers never lie, but I feel very misled... 1. Saturday night, 6:30, less than half full...that should have told us something. 2. Have a seat guys, it will be a little while til we can get to you. (One woman waiting and tending bar, training another, and the cook... that's all... did I mention it's a Saturday night?) 3. The "beer list" was pitiful. They have a gorgeous mahogany bar. On tap were two beers from Dick's (amber and porter), Stella, and Elysian Space Dust. Nothing interesting on the bottle list either. Really?? We both had the Dick's porter which is the only porter I have had that I can see through... tastes okay though. 4. The food was atrocious. He ordered the voodoo prawns. Looked like a $6 cafeteria plate. Basically shrimp (not prawns) with buffalo sauce on white rice, with a garnish of basil and slice of lemon. Buffalo with lemon and basil?? No sour cream, as in the description, but why would there be sour cream anyway??? Just plain white rice, like the boil in bag kind. But, he said it tasted "ok" and he was hungry so he ate it. I had the cornmeal catfish. It was a soggy disgusting slab of mushiness. And who serves pesto with catfish?? It was GROSS. It was served with "seasonal vegetables" - steamed, flavorless mushy piece of broccoli, two slices of carrot and 4 small slices of some other root vegetables. Also, it came with a "shire cake" which I think was like zucchini latke. Zero flavor and also mushy. I didn't even eat half of my food. 5. Waitress came and took our plates with no comment or question about the food left on my plate. When she brought the check, my husband volunteered that this was our worst food experience in years (since Lake Charles, LA in 2016). She said she was sorry and took the bill away and returned with a reduced total. So, good on her (that's why it is 2 stars and not 1). I had high expectations based on the reviews of this restaurant and its "sister" The Branch. God help Chehalis if those are the best restaurants in town. Will try the brewery next time.

They call it The Shire because the burgers are the size of a Hobit.

At first glance it seems dark and gloomy but the service was excellent and the food was fantastic! Come here, you won't regret it.

I had the Pesto Caprese pizza and it was amazing! The balsamic glaze added just the right amount of sweetness to bring together the different flavors. My husband had the NY steak and said it was delicious and cooked to perfection. Our server was very attentive and told us how all the ingredients were locally sourced, which is very good to hear because we like to support local businesses. Lastly, the building is quite beautiful with the exposed brick interior walls. I'm not familiar with the local history so I'm curious as to what this building was originally? We will definitely come back and also check out the market next time.

    ### So Bad It Was Almost Comical…read more My wife and I stopped here for lunch on our drive from Oregon to Seattle. The parking lot was completely full, so after circling around and eventually finding street parking, we figured the place must be popular. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the high point of the experience. The main restaurant was fairly full, so we were seated in a large, dark bar area in the back. And then... nothing happened. For more than 30 minutes. Eventually, a waiter appeared and took our order. Then another 30+ minutes passed before the food arrived. Somehow, even our iced tea didn't make it to the table until the food did. All told, we spent roughly an hour sitting at an empty table without so much as a beverage, and about 90 minutes from the time we arrived until we actually had food in front of us. At that point, the whole experience was becoming almost comical. We ordered a cod burger with fries, a Caesar salad, onion rings and an iced tea. The cod burger was okay. Nothing memorable, but edible. The Caesar salad was actually good. The fries, however, arrived cold, soggy and thoroughly greasy -- quite an accomplishment considering how long we waited for them. The onion rings apparently embarked on a separate journey altogether, because they never arrived. By then, we'd lost the will to ask about them and just gave up. The grand total for one cod burger with cold fries, a small Caesar salad and an iced tea? $40.00! We mentioned the long wait, forgotten food and other problems to our waiter. He was sympathetic and explained that they were short staffed, which we understand can make things difficult. But being short staffed doesn't make a 90-minute lunch, no drinks for an hour, cold soggy fries and forgotten food any less disappointing -- especially at those prices. By the end, we weren't even angry. The whole thing had crossed over into comedy. Needless to say, on future drives between Oregon and Seattle, we'll be finding a different midway lunch stop.

My boyfriend and I have been here once but only to check it out as we were coming up from Oregon…read more We have visited the Olympia location and have done trivia, ordered food and drinks and hung out at the location. We wanted to participate in the video game trivia that was hosted at the Centralia one and we decided to stop by 30ish minutes before they started at 7 which they did start on the dot. When you arrive, you go through the restaurant first and you are able to seat yourselves then wait until a server notices to drop off menus and take your order. The menu can be a bit confusing as they have some drink items on the regular menu and a secret menu and limited menu with food or dessert on the drink menu. It took a little bit to get noticed but we got a Hogwash potion and a Yoshi's Island for drinks as we had just had dinner elsewhere as the food prices here a bit much and not worth price but their video game or other nerdy themed drinks which some can be mocktails are fantastic. My boyfriend's Hogwash potion didn't take long and it was cool to see it opened with vapors coming out. My drink took much more time but it felt like it was more ice than anything as I felt like I had maybe four sips before it was all good. The trivia was great but they were having mic issues but it was also just hard to hear the host as we were sitting on the opposite end of where the host was. There are TVs that have the questions so that was very helpful. The service here is friendly but it would have been nice to be checked on more as I wanted to order another drink but their loss, I suppose. My boyfriend and I ended up getting first place but I'm also a little sad cause I didn't see a way to get points for our order today as I know they have a Toast reward system.

Spent the day browsing antique shops in Centralia and was looking for a place to get a bite to eat…read more This place came as a recommendation from one of the local shops. Being arcade it had a fun lively atmosphere. There's quite a few different menu options. We decided on a stuffed caramelized onion and provolone burger and a side of onion rings. It was really good. We chose a side of fries to go with the burger, as you get to choose one side and we ordered the onion rings separately. I'm not trying to be petty but when you order both fries and onion rings and you're asked if you want any sauce to go with it I don't think you should be charged. They both should come with at least 1 sauce per side. The cocktail menu looked really good with fun signature cocktails. The place was clean and friendly staff. Will come back.
