Maydeline at the Spa was very helpful and very in touch with guest needs. One step ahead everytime. Colin really saved the day with making sure we had everything we needed. Brennan was also really helpful at breakfast and bringing us water all the way to the retreat pool. There was a minor hiccup with requesting ice while we were there but they did take care of it and apologized the next day for it not being done promptly, the acknowledgement was great and it really was such a minor thing. They have lots of activities everyday that are included and they also have experiences you can pay for.

The property is beautiful to walk around, with all the landscaping, flowers and trees; some of them are marked with what kind of plant they are. There are century plants and aloe and various cacti. The fitness center is located at the spa. It has windows which open up onto the pool, which is a more private pool than the main pool. The staff is outstanding. Savannah, who ran the front desk on my most recent visit, is absolutely amazing and really helped with any questions or small issues with my stay. The restaurant is wonderful for the hotel breakfast. I recommend having cocktails there too. You can see a beautiful sunset from the bar. I love the open design of this hotel resort because it makes you feel like you're in the countryside and you can admire the beautiful views of Camelback as you walk around the grounds and hear birds chirping. It's so relaxing. Parking is easy and you can usually find a spot right outside your casita room as the parking circles the hotel. Toiletries in the room smell so good! Lavender with sea salt. It's really like staying in a spa! One of my favorite experiences at this hotel was taking a late afternoon outdoor class at the spa/gym on the large lawn where we did stretching/light resistance training with the the sunset behind Camelback Mountain as the backdrop. It was glorious. I definitely recommend trying one of the classes or "experiences" if you stay here. Some of them you have to pay extra for, but a few of them are included with your room rate. At first glance the hotel interiors and architecture seem extremely simple and minimal, but then you realize it's actually all a piece of mid-century modern inspired art. But I liked the tranquility that it provided.

Only down side is that there's barely any light and the deck around the pool is uneven in places. We had room service the first night. Young man that delivered was very nice. The chicken fingers and veg paste was good. The albondigas was terrible. Two meat balls With some chipotle sauce. We ate breakfast every morning and it was good. The hostess and some of the other people acted like this was their first time being busy so it was entertaining to watch them scurry around like they were lost. We ate one night at Prado and the food had no flavor. Loved the smell of the restaurant like mesquite wood burning. The waiter was very nice and friendly. I posted that review on here as well. The entire staff were very friendly and helpful when asked. Never understood what was included in the $45/night resort fee and the parking was $35/night for valet and 30 for self park. So be forewarned add the $80 a night to your room rate. Plus the distance to your room can be quite a trek. Anyways would we stay here again?? Not sure. For the money we might try one of the other resorts around the area. So can't say either way right now.

Unfortunately, after spending four days at the property, I can confidently say this was one of the most disappointing luxury hotel experiences I've ever had. The problems started at check-in. The front desk associate barely engaged with me, offered no overview of the property, amenities, or resort experience, and didn't ask whether it was my first visit. When I mentioned I was celebrating my birthday, there wasn't even a simple "Happy Birthday." I was handed a key and what turned out to be a property map, with no explanation whatsoever. My next stop was the concierge desk to inquire about pool cabanas. I was simply told they were sold out. No alternatives were offered, no waitlist was mentioned, and no effort was made to assist. Instead, I was told to look at an outside website myself. At a luxury resort, isn't the concierge's role to help guests find solutions and make arrangements? When I later asked if the resort did anything special for birthday guests, the concierge emailed me a list of items I could purchase. That response perfectly summarized the level of hospitality we experienced. The room itself was another disappointment. It felt outdated and in need of renovation, hardly what one would expect from a luxury property. Ironically, when I later visited the pool and asked an attendant about cabanas, she immediately offered to place me on a waitlist in case of cancellations--an option the concierge never bothered to mention. The following morning, I spoke with a manager, Alley, about my experience. She apologized and offered a $100 food and beverage credit, which I appreciated. However, when I returned to my room, I discovered something far more concerning: one of the pillows had visible mold on it. Since I don't sleep with pillows, I hadn't noticed it the first night. As I looked closer, I found stains on the bedding, pillows, lampshade, and even areas of the room that clearly had not been properly cleaned. Housekeeping came and changed the sheets and pillowcases, but shockingly left behind the actual moldy pillow. At that point, this had moved far beyond a service issue and into a cleanliness and health concern. I reported everything again to management. The additional response was a $50 credit. At this point, the property had failed in virtually every area that defines a luxury hotel: guest service, concierge support, cleanliness, attention to detail, and problem resolution. My friends who booked rooms experienced similar frustrations with both customer service and housekeeping. We ultimately spent much of our time dining at restaurants off property and even rented a cabana at another resort because our experience at The Phoenician was so disappointing. For a stay that cost me over $2,000, offering a total of $150 in credits felt completely out of touch with the severity of the issues. The amount wasn't the problem, it was the lack of accountability and genuine concern. I rarely leave negative reviews, but travelers should know that this property did not deliver anything close to the luxury experience it advertises. Between the poor service, moldy pillow, cleanliness concerns, and overall lack of hospitality, I cannot recommend The Phoenician. I will also be filing a complaint through Marriott Bonvoy regarding my experience. Luxury hotels are defined by service, attention to detail, and how they handle problems when they arise. Unfortunately, The Phoenician failed on all three.

The staff was constantly around and friendly, and the service was quicker than expected. The fruit platter that came with the daybed was much better than we have received at other resorts with the add in, and the meal and drink cost was on par. What we really enjoyed was that the music was at a relaxing volume, we were given free drinks as the resort wanted all guests to get into the holiday. Having the day bed from 10-6 was more than enough...we used 5 or 6 of the hours. Will definitely come back! Two knocks/challenges - figuring out where the pool actually was posed a challenge. We ended up walking around the massive property for a bit as the front desk was busy when we walked in and there wasn't good signage. When we found the pool all the entrances are locked and need a key card. Fortunately a staff memeber had walked near the gate and let us in.

From my experiences, I would not say that this hotel meets the JW Marriott standards. First of all, the rooms: As an ambassador we do not feel that we were upgraded during our stay. Mind you the hotel was not too busy, as still summertime, so we felt there was an opportunity. We were informed that we were provided a recently updated hotel room when we checked in. From my perspective the hotel room is due for another update or perhaps some touch ups-- when you review my picture, you will see behind the toilet paper roll, a piece of wallpaper was cut out in square and replaced with another square. Furniture is scratched or ruff in the bathroom as well as the living quarters. The sofa has seen better days. The quality of this room is more at a Marriott level. Given the quality of the room for a JW hotel, I knocked some stars off. Plus, the room does not give off high-quality comfort-- the bathroom had a very small shower. The shower door opening inwards, makes it feel even smaller. The bathtub in the bathroom, is a stand tub-- and perhaps even smaller that standard. I would expect a luxurious tub for this hotel. The patio furniture is basic and not comfortable to enjoy the views. Also, some better pillows would be nice. As for amenities-- the hotel only has one pool open for all guests. If you attend the SPA, there is an additional pool. As we were at the hotel during an off-season period the pool was not too busy. Given the number of chairs at the pool, I can imagine the pool being very busy during high season. The hotel's main gym is connected with the SPA. The gym offers a great amount of equipment. There is also a small gym at the pool. There is also a hiking trail at the back of the property which is a great feature to enjoy the mountains. Near the mountains, there is an event space. It looks like a wild west scene which could be great for parties and bbq. To get around the property- you can call a golf cart. Plan ahead as you may have to wait for service. During cooler times, you can definitely walk around the property. If in the back of the property, you do have to walk up hill from the lobby. You can also drive around the property- parking is included in your resort fee. As for restaurants- there are several restaurants on the property. During the summertime, the higher end restaurant, The Lincoln, was closed. Given the closure this restaurant we ate at their more causal restaurant-- the food was good and the service was excellent. This restaurant provides an excellent breakfast buffet- where the food is fresh. This property is place you come to relax, not too work. The rooms don't even provide a desk. The hotel is nestled among the desert scene with view of the mountains and access to trails. You could easily unwind here. Overall, the service was great at the hotel. The staff at check-in, around the pool and at the restaurants. The level of service we experience does match the JW quality.

Though, you will have to wheel them through the parking lot so chose which works best for you. Our Room: - King Bed + sofa - 4th Floor (highest) - Pool view + balcony (very spacious and would book a pool view in the future again) - Balmain Paris shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and lotion which were fabulous! Dining Options (separate reviews if dined there): - Two pool bars (H2Oasis and Sandbar) - Canyon Market - Mesa Centrale - Grand Vista Lounge - La Zazonna - Tiki Taka - Room Service: I believe this is serviced by Canyon Marketplace or Mesa Centrale. A bit pricey, but enjoyed a burger to our room one night. Actually ended up preferring that one to the one served at H2Oasis. 4th of July Fireworks: - Our room had a balcony on the fourth level, and ended up being perfect for fireworks as they shoot off from behind the pool. If your room is not situated to see, there is reserved spot for hotel guests, but we chose to view from our balcony. 4th of July Festivities: DJs, live music, games, curated menus, a bald eagle in the lobby, resort specific fireworks, and more! If you are looking for a destination for your next 4th of July, I'd highly recommend this! The pool was nice enough, but surprisingly small, crowded, and the water was hot. For a Scottsdale hotel with the reputation Valley Ho carries, the entire pool experience just felt a little dated and cheaper than I expected. We also paid $400+ for our cabana, only to discover the safe didn't work. At that price point, I expect every amenity included with the cabana to function properly. Now for the absolute bright spot of our pool experience: Alex! Alex was THE MAN. This dude strutted around that pool serving patrons with a smile and a full heart. My wife, our friends, and I were genuinely excited every time we saw him coming our way because his customer service was impeccable. He was personable, attentive, funny, and made us feel like he genuinely wanted us to have a great time. Give that man his flowers. Overall, I understand why Hotel Valley Ho is such a Scottsdale institution. There's history, character, and plenty to like about the property. But between the struggling A/C, questionable soundproofing, small and overcrowded pool, hot water, and malfunctioning cabana amenities, the experience didn't quite live up to the reputation. We could see and hear the entire ceremony. In my reservation I requested a quiet room, and I have quiet room in my Hyatt profile. I don't think that much forethought is put into guest placement. Yes, we are paying pennies compared to this wedding BUT they are not fostering relationships with Hyatt members. (I did mention this to reception and they offered bonus points. Great BUT this is an awful last night.) The room: King Casita is an excellent size! We have a king bed and a rollaway bed and we still have space! The bathroom space is large too! I don't care for a stocked fridge and snacks. It's useless nowadays. We had to ask for a fridge to be brought in. The room is very clean, however there were a few moths flying around the room, which was odd. Pool: the pool is wonderful! We are here on spring break (a very popular travel week) and always found spots at the pool. The servers are the pool are awesome 5/5 stars! Attentive and professional. The food at the pool was great (the burger was the restaurant burger and the whipped ricotta and fruit was yummy). The location is great! We did rent a car but never had to drive far! The valet team is speedy but it's an odd service as the parking spaces are super close. (I was ready to give this place 4 stars but this last night is a stinky way to end the trip.)

I spent the morning at the pool but when I went back to my room (after 12) I couldn't get in so I'm locked out in my wet suit. Apparently my key only worked until 11 or 12 but no one informed me I'd need to reset my key (even tho this was confirmed prior to and upon arrival). It was annoying having to wait bc it also ended up taking up the rest of my time and my peaceful weekend ended in me rushing to get cleaned up and out of the room on time for the turnover. In addition, I was trying to make a latte before I left but since the room is slightly sloped (really lol!) the glass under the machine shook off and spilled everyone (for the second time). It was annoying and just added to the hurried checkout. After getting ready to head out I called to see if I could get help with my bags again and they said they were sending someone up and hung up before I could also request my car. I called right back and they got my car # and took care of it, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. Someone was there very quickly with a cart to help and from there it was smooth and friendly -- just as it was getting help to the room. All in all there are some areas I'd give 5 stars to, some 4, and others a 3. I am big on the service component, so the less desirable interactions leave me wanting to give 3 stars, especially given the cost of staying. I'm being generous because overall I had a good time in my room and by the pool... I will go again on a non-holiday and hopefully be able to update to 5 stars.
