Very popular restaurant right in the main drag and in the heart of downtown. The menu is very extensive and they have a little bit of everything. I typically get the soup and salads and found that the gumbo is pretty nice. Though the restaurant is fairly large, it was always difficult to get seats for any size group as this is one of the most popular lunch spots in the area. Biggest complaints are 1) that the soda fountain was often not calibrated correctly and drinks came out flat or without enough syrup, and 2) that there isn't table service for ordering and so there was often a line 8-10 people deep running right through the middle of the restaurant next to tables which made it fed unnecessary cramped. read more

This was my first time going to Tallahatchie Gourmet after hearing so many good things about it. Due to COVID they were at half capacity, which I'm sure made things difficult for staff (considering how busy they were) but they handled it graciously. I was seated within 10 minutes of arriving at noon, and got my food within another 10 minutes. I ordered the shrimp and grits with a side salad. I don't usually like salads that don't have meat on them, but this was an exception to the rule. The salad had mixed greens, tomatoes, feta cheese, and an exquisite dressing. I was quite impressed with my visit here. I was passing through town and needed to find a place to eat. This is the first place that popped up so I drove here. We were surprised with how many people were in here. The place was busy. We sat at the bar and kept the bartender company. She was super sweet, helpful, and fun to talk to. I asked her about the shrimp and grits and she admires that shrimp and grits isn't her thing but that it was a very popular item and ordered by regulars all the time. I was willing to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. It was so good. The grits were creamy and smooth... almost like buttery mashed potatoes. The shrimp was also delicious. It came with 2 side. I chose wild rice and grilled veggies. The mayor suggested it (hard to pass it up). It's a quaint little meat + three place with home style vegetables and friendly folks. There were all sorts of folks in here today - young and old, casual and business. I had the bbq chicken with green beans, corn bread, and broccoli salad. The chicken was good and the bbq sauce was flavorful. However, the broccoli salad and green beans were off the chain!!! I'm always on the fence about this place. Nothing really outstanding or terribly bad. Quality really seems to depend on the time you're there and the dish you have. Service occasionally stellar, occasionally terrible. The stereotypical Southern foods (chicken, pork chops, chicken salad, etc.) have generally been decent. The fish and soups have tended to be bland for me. I find their pricing a bit high for what you get. To me a $10 po-boy is a half loaf of Gambino's holding a double handful of seafood. Not a Kroger bun with 5 or 6 popcorn shrimp, a leaf of lettuce and one tomato slice halved. read more

They worked with me on the phone (I live out of State) and via the Internet, helping me select a menu that included traditional Southern dishes, along with a variety of other dishes. Great find in New Albany. Food and service were outstanding. There were 4 of us. Fried pickles were a great way to get started. 2 had shrimp and grits, one had the filet (cooked perfectly) and one had the triple salad (pasta, fruit and chicken). No complaints at all. We decided to finish the meal with the brownie sundae. Yummy! Not only was our server helpful with selections but very attentive and personable. The management also came by the table and not only asked about our dinners but spent a few minutes just chatting about the area with us. Boring, boring food. We ordered salads with side of soup. The soup ended up being chicken gumbo. We expected a huge salad and a side cup of soup. Instead we got a small salad and a huge bowl of bland, uncooked rice gumbo, that had more rice than gumbo. I tried to put some hot sauce in it to have some type of creole/Cajun flavor but it was no help at all. For someone who's never eaten a bowl of real gumbo, this would be great. I work out of New Orleans so I'm a good judge. lol. Salad was ok, just tiny for $8.50. The menu said soup of the the day for 8.75 and $10.50 for gumbo. We asked for soup of the day but she said it was gumbo, and I asked if that was the soup of the day and she said yes. So I expected to pay $8.75. Instead, I was charged $10.50. Plus, one bowl of gumbo was cold and our rice was uncooked. Don't waste your time here. Not worth it. I gave it two stars because it was clean. read more

Never again... I don't think I've ever been angered when I've gone out to eat. We opted to sit at the bar to watch preseason football. Our bartender was nice and had a good personality, the food was ok, not great but not bad either, this is the reason I gave TWO stars. There wasn't a sole working in the front over 22 y/o, the two girls working were obnoxious, one more than the other. Their phones were charging in front of us and she spent more time texting, Facebook, snapchatting and taking selfies than she did working. She was oblivious to my wife and I trying to talk to each other and would even yell over to others. The place has potential, though I'll never see it. It needs adult supervision, those girls shouldn't have even been allowed behind the bar. read more
