Number #14. Turkey, Salami and Cheese

Honestly incredible food and even better customer service. We loved our interactions and were given free samples of their house meat and recommendations out the wazoo. Subs are huge and we ordered full subs - we'll be eating these for several meals. We chose to go rogue and that definitely upped the sandwich to another level. Very sad we don't live around here or we would be regulars!

The best sub in the world!!!!
    Bernard J.

I thought the reviews were great and gave the place a shot, holy hell!!!!! The best damm sub I ever ate!!!! Hands down, bar none. I loved it so much I had it for dinner 2 nights in a row! And I recommend going ROUGE version highly I mean stratospherically high! I travel around and love a good sub, but after this one......... nothing will compare and I feel I will have none meet or exceed it's quality or taste. Like the old saying goes "When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer." Plutarch. Did you ever feel like Alexander the Great, after you reached a goal in life and saw no new one? And I feel like Alexander for the place is 3 hours away drive time one way. And I can never find that in my area, so as I close out this review with tears forming in my eyes, if your travels takes you to Grand Rapids, Michigan, like Shia LaBeouf stated so eloquently" Just Do It"!!!!!!! The #19 With pickles and tomatoes ,light lettuce and have it made ROUGE!! I guarantee you will love it!

#8 rogue style (half of the 18")

*Note: The following review is from a pre-COVID-19 visit; however they are still open during the stay at home order for curbside pickup and delivery via Uber Eats and Grub Hub. I tried a small sample of a Boardwalk sub during the Uptown Shop Hop this winter and loved it! They had coupons out for a buy one sandwich combo, get one sandwich free, so my boyfriend and I went to this location to grab lunch. Walking in, you order at the left of the counter and watch as they build your sandwich with fresh ingredients. We were asked if it was our first time in and the girl making sandwiches gave us some samples of their capicola and prostitini! She was super helpful and polite. I ordered the #8, which is their most popular sandwich and comes with ham, capicola, salami, prostitini, pepperoni & cheese. My boyfriend got the Italian (#4): Ham, capicola, salami & cheese. You can choose white or wheat bread, and then you can get it toasted, untoasted, or Rogue style, which is where they flip the bread inside out, add a special blend of oil and spices to it, and grill it to perfection. We both opted for Rogue style. Once it's toasted you can add veggies, sauces, and spices. They have lots of great mayo options including chipotle mayo, roasted bell pepper mayo, and roasted garlic mayo! I added spinach, tomato, banana pepper, and roasted garlic mayo to mine. The sandwiches are MASSIVE 18" subs - definitely enough to split (and we got TWO because of the coupon). We got our order to go and they cut the sandwiches into halves, wrapped one half in paper and plastic wrap, and then cut the other half into three pieces. This is so genius and wonderful as it made it super convenient to save half for later. Everyone working at Boardwalk Subs was super friendly and polite and it was clear to me how they have won the Celebrated Service award in the past. The sandwich had great flavor and wasn't too messy to eat. All the toppings were as fresh as you can get and really delicious. I would definitely go back and split a sandwich next time.

    #8 (Rogue style)

One of the better sandwiches I've had in Grand Rapids area! I would HIGHLY recommend getting the sub 'rogue' style where they turn the buns upside down, season it with spices and Parmesan and toast it, extremely tasty! One thing you should know is that a normal sub is 15 inches so unless you have an non-human like appetite, would suggest getting a half or splitting it with someone. I got the #8 which I was told is by far the most popular sandwich and was not disappointed! It's a little out of the way for me but would definitely recommend if you're in the area! Super friendly workers as well so if you're not sure what to order, then just ask!!

Pieces of turkey I couldn't choke down.
    Brett V.

I often visit this location as it is near my place of work. Lately, I've been disappointed in the quality of turkey they are using. I am almost alway ordering between the #10, #11, and #13. Recently, the turkey on those sandwiches is dry, chewy, and clearly includes artificial coloring. This never used to be the case about 6 months ago. Please fix this! Or talk to your supplier about the quality of turkey they are selling you.

Asked for Turkey instead of ham...got ham...
    Melissa R.

This is hands down the worst place to get a sub. While they are normally good subs, the first two times we tried Boardwalk, there was ONE person in front of us. We each ordered two things the first time, 2.5 the 2nd. It took THIRTY MINUTES each time, & both times the staff was SO confused. If you ask for something different than what's on the menu (I wanted Turkey instead of ham) it turns into an impossible job for the staff...we decided to give it one more shot since the subs are good, so this time we ordered over the phone for pick up. My husband made sure to tell them multiple times I wanted TURKEY instead of HAM...guess what I got on my sub. Yup! HAM....we have given this place THREE tries and every time have been disappointed. We are done with Boardwalk Subs-at least this location. Get employees that can actually take an order...and make a sub in less than 30 minutes...ridiculous.

#14 with little to no toppings. Ordered 5 different veggies, can you spot anything but lettuce & spinach?
    Kim W.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was because we showed up 20 minutes before closing. My sub, #15, usually comes loaded with my choice of veggie toppings. I ordered lettuce, spinach, onion, black olives & jalapeno. I usually get tomato too, but they were out. Get home to find basically a cheese & lettuce sub (see picture). My husband's #4 was also very skimpy on the toppings, besides the meat. Very disappointed in the 45min. round trip we took to get these subs.

    Enjoying our lunch.

Stopped by for a quick/late lunch on our way through town with my daughter. This is a small place in a non-descript strip mall and a very bland/plain interior, definitely nothing special to look at. However, the service and food were excellent! We were offered samples of their various meats and even told about how they were made (I definitely recommend the capicola, it had just the right spice/kick). The subs were very large (15"), fresh, with really good bread and the meat/cheese were great! Positives: Really good meat, cheese and bread. Excellent service and value. Negatives: Nothing really. (decor if anything)

Butt ends of tomato !?!? So now we are an asshat and a little punk and a coward!!!!!!

Super impressed by Apple Spice!…read more I usually hate catered lunches because the sandwiches are all pre made with mayo, mustard, pickles, or other condiments I won't eat. Or the pickle is on the side, but the sandwich bread soaks up all the pickle juice - gross! We had a large lunch meeting today, and we all received a link a few days in advance to the Apple Spice menu. You Everett your name and email, and get to actually pick what you want to eat! They had a really large variety of sandwiches, salads, wraps, and even soups. The meals also come with a bag of chips and a cookie, and you can pick your additional side. I picked fresh fruit, but they also had a pasta salad option and a few other similar offerings. I was also able to customize my wrap to not include ranch (which would have been automatically on it if just standard pre-made), and I was able to deselect pickle so it wasn't even in my box. Though one of my coworkers got one and I noticed the pickle was wrapped in it's own little Ziploc, so it probably wouldn't have gotten all over everything. Everything in the box is a pretty standard size. I was full off half a wrap, which is normal for lunch. I also ate half my chocolate chunk cookie, which was really good! Like a nice soft batch cookie. One of my coworkers is gluten free, and she even said how nice it was that so many GF options were available. She generally can't even eat catered lunches! Overall very impressed, and would definitely recommend them to anyone needing to cater a lunch!

For a guy who hates cheddar biscuits, I've got to say I'm blown away. My wife ordered the steak with fingerling potatoes and carrots. It was on the pricier side, but yet again well worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the veggies were pretty good too. They had live music playing as well tonight. It was a jazzy kind of vibe and it didn't over power anyone talking or anything. The guy had some serious skill too. To top it off, we had some pretty killer service from everyone there. From the hostess taking our names, random servers walking around, and our fantastic server (I forget her name but she was blonde and worked upstairs and had a a really great attitude. The expo or food runner dropping our food off anticipated us possibly needing an extra plate and brought one without asking which was super awesome and ended up coming in handy ( I knew my wife wouldn't finish that steak alone) and she brought it without asking and was ready with a smile to get more. I used to be a GM (I hate when people use this saying but...) truly I know how hard it is to find good workers and the folks running it here seem to have it down. I come from a place where you have to drive 100 mi or more for average service. So seeing exceptional service is really almost too good to be true. I'd definitely stop in for a bite. I dined at TOG today for a business lunch and, unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing…read more At the end of our meal, I asked for a to-go box because I had barely touched my food. My guest and I spent most of our lunch talking, and I left with nearly an entire meal. About 20 minutes after leaving, I realized I had forgotten my box and immediately called the restaurant to see if it was still there. The young lady who answered the phone asked where I had been seated. I explained that I was at the very first table at the front of the restaurant. Within seconds, she told me there was nothing there. Her tone made it clear that assisting me was not a priority. Given that the hostess stand is located at the back of the restaurant and I was seated at the front, I do not believe there was enough time for her to actually check before dismissing my concern. After I sent an email regarding the situation, the hostess responded that she had walked through the restaurant looking for the box. Based on the timing of our phone conversation, I find that difficult to believe. In her response, she also stated that she checked with the servers after our call had ended, which suggests that no real effort was made while I was on the phone. What is most disappointing is that I am a regular customer. Today, I paid $56.00 for lunch for myself and my business guest. Between a server who was largely absent throughout the meal and the dismissive interaction when I called about my forgotten food, the level of service fell far below what I have come to expect. Everyone has an occasional bad day, but customer service is often defined by how issues are handled after something goes wrong. In this case, I felt dismissed rather than helped. Unfortunately, after today's experience, I do not plan to return.

I came in around 5:30 to pick up some banh mi for dinner. I think bc of the time, the bread must have been stale from when they baked it in the morning... to give you an idea, I didn't have them toast it, and when I ate it in the car on the drive home, it was crumbly, there were big pieces of crumbs everywhere. The meat portion was also little in comparison to the baguette. I also got a few snacks from the fridge: the coconut jelly, flan, and yogurt. The coconut jelly was bad, the white part (coconut milk gelatin) had gone sour. The clear part was still good - which I took a chance at bc it was $5... The flan did not taste fresh, the texture was that of a yogurt that had solidified and kind of liquidy... The yogurt was actually good, probably bc yogurt can't go bad... I also got the banh cuon and com chay, both of those were fortunately good.
