I took my elderly mother to her eye appointment today; while I was waiting for her, someone brought a dog into the office. It had no markings saying it was any kind of service dog, so I assume it was someone's pet. The dog ran around loose for a while, and then it CRAPPED all over the floor! It stunk to high heaven, and I thought I was going to barf. The room was full of elderly people at the time. I would like to know why this was allowed to happen, and would like to know why I shouldn't report it to the board of health. read more

I came in for a second opinion, and I admit I wasn't aware that insurance only covers one per year, which is definitely my fault. despite that however, they allowed me to proceed through the appointment, numb and dilate my eyes just for the doctor to let me know we can't proceed with the appointment, without even giving a chance for me to ask how much the appointment would be. once again definitely partly my fault, but are there no systems in place to prevent any unnecessary procedures? that's why I rated it one star. the technicians were great, it's just that I slipped past the system so far to the point where I got my eyes dilated, just to then essentially get kicked out. read more

Shortly after my cataract surgery with Dr. Allen, instead of healing, my eye began to weep profusely and began to be painful. His office insisted that he was not available to see me; furthermore, NO ONE was available to see me that day or the next. I offered to go to any of several of their locations and was finally offered an appointment, out of town , two days later, which I immediately accepted. When I arrived I saw not an ophthalmologist, but an optometrist, who went ahead and misdiagnosed my condition. Two days later, I called again pleading for an appointment to see Dr Allen. I was told over the phone by another doctor to just continue my POST-OP meds. In desperation I sought treatment at MassEye and Ear Emergency for what turned out to be a serious infection. I did see Dr. Allen one time after that, while healing, to voice my outrage, and while he may not have been personally responsible for my post-surgical infection, he bears some blame for the dismissive attitude of the staff. We've been going to the one in Lawrence for years. Dr. Allen is excellent. My wife always asks for him. The optometry area is wonderful with a nice selection and friendly service. I do think there are a couple things Tallman Eye should consider. It's unclear from the outside how to get in the place. More adequate signage would be great. We realize, however, that the clinic IS in an old factory. The big negative sign in the waiting area about 'violent, rude behavior won't be tolerated' is off putting. Makes you feel like you're in a war zone. And you probably are-after all it IS Lawrence, MA. While I DO realize bad Lawrencians might have necesitated the need for such a sign; it makes Tallman Eye look like they are at war with their customers. Something like, "Courtesy is a Virtue" or "Let There Be Peace on Earth", "Love Thy Neighbor". "Be Patient, Be Kind""Be Kind, Be Courteous, Makes for a Better World". How about: "We keep an EYE on Our Patients so Be Patient." My wife and I come from Methuen, we're nice and we're being punished to have to look at that. I can't tell you how bad I think that sign is and I implore you to figure something else out. read more

I had cataract surgery done through Tallman Assoc. in Lawrence and I have to say some of the people I dealt with were rude, especially the woman at checkout desk. I also had a person who was examinging my eyes to be very rude and should not be working if she does not like dealing with the public. Overall, the office experience left a lot to be desired. Signs everywhere NO PHONES and most people were on their phones. They don't answer your questions about signing in they just point to kisosk. Very rude. read more

Most Unprofessional Practice I Ever Encountered! Booked a cataract consultant at the North Andover office with "Jose" at the call center. My surgeon was supposed to be Dr. Samuel Allen. I was told to bring my MASSHEALTH ID card, my prescription and a valid government-issued photo ID. Wife and I arrived yesterday afternoon for the appointment. First, we were told that the "consultation fee" was not covered, then told that the laser surgery evaluation was not covered, then told that we needed a detailed letter from a "primary care physician" which I do not currently have. Never told this by "Jose" at the call center. For what it's worth, I underwent major oral surgery under general anesthesia (sodium thiopental) for well over an hour versus a 15 minutes laser eye surgery under a local anesthetic. The rude Hispanic woman at the desk was telling me that I would have to be placed on an EKG! I laughed at her nonsense and walked out, taking wit me her photocopy of my driver's license and MASSHEALTH ID card. Thanks for wasting my time you losers! read more

I've been a patient at Tallmans for about 20 years. I called them today for an emergency appointment due to massive eye inflammation. They told me they couldn't take me until July for this emergency, but kept pushing me for my annual eye exam which was a couple months overdue. So, I went to Lahey ER, they took me right away and determined that I should see one of their optometrists. I met with 3 different doctors, never waited for more than 5 minutes to see any of them and was in and out in less than 2 hours. Tallman's has been going downhill since the day I became a patient. Time for a new optometrist. At Lahey. This practice is horrible. read more

Not sure why Tallman is treating there patients the way they do, and I run into these problems at all the Tallman locations. They can never give me my next appointment when I'm checking out. They say they will call in a couple of day but never do. I called 4 times in one week trying to schedule my next appointment, I explain to them my condition and inform them that doctor does not want me waiting so long. They put me on hold to talk to the office manager whom I am guessing never reached out to ask the Doctor, then I get pushed off for 4 weeks before my next appointment. My body is rejecting my transplant because the office waited 4 weeks to give me an appointment. If they scheduled me when the doctor said. I would have been put on medication to prevent the rejection. I pray they don't do this again or I may loose sight in that eye. I also had to wait over two hours to finally get to see the doctor. Not very happy with the office staff, as I mentioned you get treated the same at every location. They don't seem to care about the patience. I hope the Doctor takes time to read reviews to correct these problems. read more

I have had great memories made here and have developed very good relationships. Working in this fast-paced office can have days of chaos, but all medical office can. The people in the optical shop are incredible. My 3 year old son needed prescription glasses and was having a very hard time with cooperating. They were very patient, kind, and understanding. They also readjusted his glasses many times and eventually even ordered a new better pair that would be a better and more comfortable fit for him without charging me. Could hands down be the worst run business in the Merrimack Valley. Optical shop "manager", and I use that term very loosely, is 100% incompetent. Ordered my son's glasses in October. Told 2 weeks and it took 4, just to get the wrong frames. He ordered army green, and what we for back were fuschia and teal frames. Woman told me that my 15 year old son ordered them. Maybe if he was living in the 80's and part of the brat pack, not in 2019. I was there and saw what he ordered, and it was not what was delivered. Ordered new frames which took 6 maybe 8 weeks. Told they were ready, go to pick them up, and oops,, not ready. Frames at one location and lenses at another. "Manager" told me she would drive the frames to the other location and I could pick them up there. Went to pick them up, and told glasses at the other location. I just can't anymore. Keep the damn glasses and give me a refund. read more

I recently had a poor experience with Tallman Eye. My father, in his 80s and not easily mobile, wanted cataract surgery to be able to read again. They required two in-clinic visits, a primary Dr visit, cancelled the first surgery date to require another primary Dr visit, and finally cancelled his second surgery date on the day of the surgery (after all of the required prep) to require an additional Dr test. They simply did not show any adaptation to the patient's constraints. Their process for reviewing the submitted documents is broken. read more

These people focus on how to bilk your insurance first and foremost. Healthcare of your eyes is a very distant second. I had some reservations based on some of the negative reviews, but a local optometrist that I trust strongly recommended a surgeon at Tallman so I decided to go there for cataract surgery. Best decision in my life. My experience, over quite a number of visits in Lawrence, Salem and Nashua, was consistently positive. They carefully followed all of the Covid-19 protocols. All of the technicians were highly professional and very competent, and always willing to take the time to answer my questions and explain the exam results and the options I should consider. It's an experienced team and they clearly know what they're doing. My surgeon, Dr. DeAngelis, is nothing short of gifted. The attention she gave to getting it exactly right was so impressive. It has been 5 months since my surgeries and I could not be happier with the results. They call it 20-happy vs 20/20, and I completely agree. If you're getting cataract surgery, I strongly recommend making the investment to explore multi-focal IOLs. If I'd known the outcome was going to be so awesome I would have done this years ago. I have been going to Tallman Eye Associates on Merrimack Street for some time. I recently lost my only pair of special eye reading glasses. I went to the optical store at Tallman's and was told I needed another prescription and to make appointment with my eye doctor. When to the window to make an appointment and was told i couldn't see my doctor for over a month. I use my glasses for work and these are specially made for me. So I guess they do not care for people that loose or break there needed glasses. I would NEVER recommend this eye associates to anyone. read more

There are those places where a patient/client feels valued and comfortable because the doctors and staff are obviously invested in patient care and health. This place is not like that. You are a number or a dollar sign, or perhaps an animal on a conveyer belt. When after a recent cataract surgery I went back because my eye was uncomfortable, painful and constantly tearing (never mind the fact that my vision was blurry as well) I was told that maybe the other eye would compensate for the vision problems, and after checking my tear duct (which was clear) that the doctor didn't "know what to do". No suggestions about what I might do or whom I might see to solve the problems with my eye. I am still shaking my head - and looking for an ophthamologist that can help me. They are not being safe during covid. Machines are not being wiped between patients! When u ask why they get sassy and say come with me and watch me clean it. A girl confirmed to me that she doesn't clean the pressure machine in the eye section because it only touches people with long lashes. That is disgusting and they're being unsafe. Don't go to this place unless you have all day to wait. After an hour, I asked why we hadn't been seen yet and was told "the doctor is overbooked". I told the receptionist that this was unacceptable to which she responded "well that's how it is". They don't seem to understand that my time is as valuable as theirs! I am recently in the market for a new pair of prescription eyewear. After days of research and reading what others had to say, i decided to buy the frames online and get the lens installed at a Optometry office. I went ahead and asked for quotes at several places: Target Optical, Lenscrafter, Pearle Vision and several local businesses. I noticed there was one thing in common. Associates in each shop seemed happy to help at first but the smile disappeared quickly i mentioned that i only needed lenses. I had to pry the information out of them for the lenses and different options for the lens. As a last resort, i gave Tallman Eye Associates a shot despite the poor ratings. This was one of the better decisions i made in life. I walked in and was greeted promptly by Tricia. I went through the usual routine and explained that i only needed lenses fitted to my frames. I expected the same experience as i did with other shops but was happy when she treated me like a valued customer. She gave me a very detailed summary of what the lenses would cost, how much the insurance covered and different lens options i had. The experience was great and would definitely recommend my friends. read more

Very rude employees! I brought my daughter here to see a "specialist." The doctor came in and I am so serious, she didn't even look into her eyes!! Somehow they gathered that my daughter needed an extremely strong prescription. She literally cannot see with her glasses and has nearly fallen down the stairs many times. I seen the same Dr. Eagle at another office, to follow up 9 months later and she basically called me a liar and made sure to mention she is "not a regular doctor" she is a specialist. My child had cancer. I have dealt with so many medical professionals in so many fields of medicine..she really spoke to me as if I was an idiot and she was the smartest person in the world. She did even admit that the records dont seem to make sense and my daughter failed her eye exam with glasses on. Her reasoning? "Well, maybe her vision got better." Hahahaa. AWFUL. Front desk staff is beyond rude. I was told one pair was going to be $99 for just the lenses. I went back a few weeks later to order glasses and the new lenses. One pair was $150 and that was from their $99 section. Paid for new lenses in my old frames. I ended up paying over $300 for both glasses. Optical shop called me weeks ago, saying lenses are in and never made me an appt. Called the lawrence office and she told me they were having issues with their phones. That was the beginning of March BEFORE the COVID 19 pandemic. I was told the other glasses were in, and yet no one could make an appt to come in. Several calls to their office have not been returned. I need my glasses and now Im going to have to go some where else for my glasses that I need. I've had to call my credit card company to get my money back. Poor business practices leave patients unaware of policies that prevent them from entering the office. Two of the three people being screened for entrance were denied because they didn't have paperwork stating their Covid19 results. We weren't told we needed them....most people don't even get a copy...just a call. Their whole screening process is lacking. It didn't matter that I tested negative in March, have been working at the local hospital as an RN and it was now July 17th. Ridiculous policy. Management couldn't be reached by anything but voicemail. People & Dr's are swell, but business practices & policies require some patient advocates to speak up against them. read more

Took my mother in for her appointment as I always do. I understand all protocols in place what I am not understanding of is if the patient speaks no English and I am her PCA why can't my questions and concerns be followed up via a phone call. I waited over 2 hours for her appointment to be done and another 2 after to get a phone call and be told the doctor doesn't have any available appointments via phone until mid August to discuss my mother's appointments. I did not like how impersonal this location is. Appts and check ins are done by kioks even though there is a front desk personnel you are directed straight to the kioks. My appt (new patient) was at 1:10 and now it's 1:51 and I have not been called in or spoken to about the Dr. running late. Completely unacceptable. I had to go to the first desk to see what is going on because I was ready to walk out and that's when the receptionist called the doctor and he said he was running late, oh really SMH. This is my first and last time coming! Oh and just FYI. I got called in at 2:15 and that's when I found out that my eyes will be getting dilated with no noticed I was not able to plan ahead. I had an eye appointment scheduled for myself and my husband for our annual eye exam. Carter Tallman is retired and he is the doctor we always went to so I asked for another ophthamologist and was given one - nothing more was said about the doctor to me. Our exams were normal other than I needed long distance glasses and the doctor said my eyes were a bit dry. I received a bill for over $100 (my insurance covers my visits at 100%) and when I called to question this bill I was told that the doctor I saw was strictly a doctor for patients that call with a problem and want to be seen for that problem. I stated that no one told me this and I told the person I spoke with that I called for an annual eye exam and never mentioned a problem. I was then told, "you must have said you had a problem or you wouldn't have gotten an appointment with that doctor (so I am liar is what she was saying)"! I asked to speak to the doctor that examined my eyes but he never called me back. I eventually spoke with HR to voice my complaint but that quickly ended as I'm sure HR was told not to communicate with me. I always liked Tallman Eye (in particular Carter) but will never go back again. I told my story to friends and have heard more negative experiences with Tallman. I see from other reviews that I am far from the only patient with complaints. Tallman has lost 3 patients alone in my family. read more

I recently visited the Lawrence office and was very impressed with the customer service and professional care I received. Upon entering the office you are greeted by friendly faces who help you check in for your appointment. The Techs are amazing! They are very knowledgeable and explained the procedures they were performing. The doctors were caring and listened to my concern's. There attention to detail and up to date technology is a plus for this office. I felt I received top notch care and would trust my eye care to Tallman Eye. The optical dept was great. From helping me find the correct frames to getting the glasses just right. I would not trust my eye care any where else but Tallman Eye and their skilled team. read more

"Unacceptable Wait and Disappointed Experience" I like to read Physician's reviews before seen them, so I am providing feedback for my mother experience at Tallman Eye Associates. My mother is an octogenarian OLD lady having a recent open-heart surgery, besides of history of bilateral cataract surgery who was seen there last December 2018. Even though my mother have checked-in 15 minutes prior to the appointment time, my mother waited and waited to see Dr. Botero; then after ONE HOUR AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES of WAITING and after speaking for 3 occasions with an attendant at the front office, my mother was finally entered at the physician consultation. Upon completing the doctor visit, I spoke with the office manager who even though she was courteous and professional, but unable to give us a reasonable justification for the uncomfortable wait. I even mentioned our long wait to my mother's physician, Dr. Botero, who didn't express any concern or excuse. My mother left the office very tired and having a headache for the unacceptable long wait. read more

The Doctors are wonderful. Unfortunately the prescription refill process is terrible. My mail order pharmacy was unable to get an authorization from the Dr. At the end of January. I have called 4 times since then and it has been almost 2 months since and they still have not resolved the issue From what I. Terrible experience with this business! I called to make an appointment for an eye injury. Was on hold with a call-in center for 10 minutes. When she did pick up she was completely unprofessional. I explained the reason for an appointment and she actually laughed. When I asked her if she was acutally laughing at me she did not aplogize. I stated I was uncomfortable making an appointment with them and she said OK and hung up. I am so glad I never visited the office, based on my experience with them via phone. read more

Optical Shop in Lawrence is a damn zoo and they are way over-priced. Customer service is terrible; different story every time I call to get a status update on eyeglasses ordered 3+ weeks ago. Then the last girl I spoke with seemed annoyed-gee, sorry, am I inconveniencing YOU??. To think I actually thought I'd give them a shot and start seeing the doctors for exams. No way. Can't even provide decent service when making an eyeglass purchase. read more
