This will be quick and to the point. They make an appointment for you 3 months in advance and you drive 25 miles and walk in and they tell you that they rescheduled you and claim the called your cell a week ago which obviously they did not. Then they come out with we will get you an appt in our office down the street in 30 minutes. Then you drive down there and 2 mins before getting there you get a call saying can we move you out 2 hours? I said no thank you. I would never go back there and the strange thing is Mass General recommended them. I'll call Mass General to tell them how bad they are but then look at their reviews here on Yelp. read more

I had an unfortunate experience during my recent visit. When I arrived for my appointment, I was told there was no record of it. After some investigation, the staff member assisting me discovered that the appointment had been mistakenly scheduled for 2025 instead of 2024. Unfortunately, rather than addressing me directly with an explanation or an apology, she only mentioned this to her coworker. Throughout the interaction, she made minimal eye contact and offered no apology, which made me feel dismissed and undervalued. I was handed a supervisor's contact information but left without a resolution or any reassurance. If this staff member is indeed a manager, as she claimed, I expected a higher level of customer service and professionalism. Mistakes happen, and I understand that, but a simple apology and acknowledgment would have gone a long way. Because of this experience, I don't plan to return. DON'T GO TO THIS OFFICE IN NORTH ANDOVER! The most unprofessional office I have ever dealt with. My fiancé showed up for his first appointment that he waited several months for to have the very rude receptionist tell him that the provider was out because she just had a baby. When he asked why he didn't get a call or email to reschedule etc, she IGNORED HIM, with no apology or anything, and without any eye contact asked if he wanted to make another appt. So they let every patient show up to the office that day knowing well before that their provider was not going to be there???? For the next appointment, we waited to check in while standing at the front desk (as directed by the sign when you walked in), the receptionist picked up the phone and made a call, finally with the phone in her hand, she looked at us and asked if we had an appointment. At that time she told us it was going to be self-pay because they were not contracted with his insurance which was not true because we found them through our insurance but she didn't care or want to hear anything about it. Why was this not mentioned when the first appointment was made when they took all the insurance information? That would have been the time to say "I am sorry, we don't take this insurance, so you will have to pay, do you still want to make the appointment". But they are not professional. I have worked in Healthcare for over 20 years and I have never worked at or been to an office that operates this way or has such rude, useless, and unprofessional employees. I wish I had seen these reviews before I suggested this office to my fiancé. I have never posted a bad review of any company but this is justified and I want to warm others like I wish I was. I had a lump removed from my eyelid on 8/8/24 at 12:00 ish. They said they would call eye drops in at my pharmacy to pick up later that day. At 5:20 p.m. I went to pharmacy and no prescription was sent. I called 8/9/24 at 9:05 a.m. and was on hold for over 10 Minutes. Called back and someone answered and transfered my call to Dr. North's nurse. She did not answer phone so I left a message. No call. I have yet to hear from them it is now 4:45 p.m. I called phamacy and still no prescription for me. I called Tallman again and got the answering service, left another message with them. These are the most unprofessional people I have ever met. I had to wait over 4 months for this appointment to be treated this way, my dog gets better treatment, and if i call someone at least calls me back. read more

Ever wonder how an Eye Doctor can have such a low rating on Yelp? Look no further than the front desk staff. They ask, via email, for your insurance info a month + ahead of time. Yet after I take a day off from work and sit in the waiting room for 20 minutes, I'm told I cannot be able seen because the insurance website is down so either pay out of pocket or reschedule. What did you all do with my insurance info for the last month? Why wait until I got to the office to see if I was covered? Then I'm told it was somehow my fault. You should have verified your insurance. Excuse me, what? I am 100% sure I am covered. The problem is supposedly with the website being down but thanks for trying to pass the blame on to me. I requested an early appointment for my 24hr after surgery check-up. The front desk people were nice and the person that brought me in the room was pleasant. The Eye Doctor was 25minutes late. He never introduced himself or apologized for being late. I was the only person in the office at 7:30am. He began giving me a new schedule for the recovery process verbalizing the instruction for taking the drops. Totally confusing me. I asked him if he was going to examine my eye? He seemed more interest giving me the new schedule. I will never come back to that office again. Have been going here for awhile now. I see Dr. Pappavasilio for my eye care. I have found him to be very thorough & explains things to me in a way I can understand. He always has time to answer my many questions & will listen to my concerns & address them as needed. He will always try to find a solution to any concern I have. I feel totally at ease with my eye care from Dr. Pappavasilio. I also have to commend his assistant Stephanie who also goes out of her way to help . During this Covid-19 issue, she coordinated mine & my husbands care, so we could speak to the doctor at the same time. I wouldnt go anywhere else !! read more

Glasses are overpriced, good selection, but overpriced, and when I brought back my son's glasses that should have a 1 year warranty, they kept saying that we didn't buy them there, even though WE ABSOLUTELY got them there. Proceeded to "try" to fix them, broke them further and then said that we should check with where we bought them. Also, after going home and checking my long receipt from the purchase of the glasses, they don't give you enough information to actually verify that they were purchased there...good system, way to screw regular people out of their money. read more

There is basically an assembly line for patients. You check in via computer, sit down and hope that they have your check in. No human contact till you get into the room. Then it's more or less routine. Nothing spectacular. Oh if you order glasses and cash pay be prepared to wait months. Yes months. I kept calling to see if they were done but the person at the optical shop was never there. Then when i finally had enough and said cancel and refund. Miraculously they found them but the were not finished. So again i wait. read more

They took my insurance information when I first booked our appointments and then again when we arrived but never once did anyone say they charge $100 over the going insurance rates. Long waiting!! First time i went there they made me wait for AN HOUR before seeing the doctor! The second visit was early in the morning and i thought waiting would be better this time. I got there on time and found out there were TWO other patients with the same doctor at the same appointment time!! How can you schedule three at the same time?? Again...i waited for 50 MINS. And yet they told me my insurance doesnt cover the visit while it actally does! I had to wait for them to figure that out before I pay even though I told them my coverage twice when making and confirming the appointment!! WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE!!!! My husband had an appointment today and it was awesome. His appointment was at 9:10 with Dr. McCann and we were all done by 10:15 am (including the purchase of a new pair of glasses.) At first he was a little confused with the check in Kiosk but it was actually faster than filling out a form or providing his personal information to a receptionist. We went to the optical shop to browse at the glasses as we waited. The optical manager, Patricia, was extremely helpful! She noticed he was wearing a pair of Nike frames and she was able to quickly find similar frames that he might like. She was very knowledgeable about the frames and styles that would look good on him. The technician, Cathy S, was really friendly and attentive. We were pleasantly surprised that the wait time was less than 5 minutes after we were in the exam room. The doctor was very thorough with the exam. She even took the time to answer some questions he had. The check out staff was friendly and scheduled his follow up appointment to fit his very busy schedule. I was so impressed that I scheduled an appointment for myself. Finally, we went back to the optical shop to order his glasses and we couldn't believe the selection of frames the optician had pulled for him. She had 6-8 frames and they all looked great! We finally selected a pair of Náutica frames that we probably would have never even looked at. He looked so HANDSOME So much better than a retail shop! read more

Worst Optical facility I have ever encountered. I ordered my glasses 4 weeks ago and I am still waiting for them to arrive. I cannot even get through to the optical shop to ask if they have arrived. The front desk which is 2 feet away from the optical shop (same facility) cannot handle this difficult question and will only transfer me to sit listening to elevator music on the phone. Their eye glass selection is minimal and has no glasses with the option for the clip on sun glass clips. The lady I worked with in the optical department to select and order my glasses worked hard to get a good price with VSP, but that was the only good part about Tallman Eye. Unfortunately because they are under staffed I had to wait for 3 other customers to be served before I could be seen to select my glasses. read more

I feel like I am doing the community a service by providing this feedback. I went to their website to find I am not alone. The staff is incredibly curt and rude. Customer service is not in their vocabulary. I am speaking about the North Andover office specifically but it appears it is not the only problematic office. Although, the widespread consensus around town concurs with my belief. It is mind boggling with so many negative reviews that things still remain the same which leads one to believe that management and the doctors themselves simply don't care. The most stupid people in the world work for the Billing Department at Tallmans. I have been receiving a bill from them since January 2019. I call and explain my insurance policies and directives and they say they understand and will correct the situation. They don't - the bills keep coming. Horrible. After several fittings ( which you are charged each time you have one) and 6 months later I am finally getting a refund so I can go somewhere else. It's very impersonal. You need to check yourself in at a kiosk.They were unable to get contacts that fit me correctly. Phone calls went unanswered. I have been wearing contacts for over 15 years and I have never had a issue until I went to Tallman. The doctor was nice, but that's about it. The North Andover front desk staff was nice, Amesbury not so much. I am going to be going elsewhere for now on. read more

Be aware of big payment after you done your exam, they wouldn't notify you how much the eye exam it will cost you, and wouldn't tell you what your insurance covers and what will not. And the staff are very rude. I will never go there again and definitely wouldn't recommend it. read more

A new system for checkin. It's a computer you sign in and register, not personal that's ok. Great Doctor really liked him, he was pleasant and friendly. I am happy the see the eye doctors there. I need new glasses, I was going to try on glasses at their optical store and see what would look good, the woman I spoke with was cold and unfriendly, not very helpful, and really was not interested in helping me. I would say her behavior was rude. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. You should talk to her, that's her job, to help people. she is part of your business and should be friendly and helpful and if not why would you want someone like that to spoil the overall experience. I would have rated you higher as I liked the doctor and my experience with the doctor, but the optic center woman, she leaves much to be desired. read more

After a 30 minute wait, I was served. I stopped the appointment when I discovered that the technician was entering my personal data into a Windows XP PC. Windows XP was deemed insecure by Microsoft in April 2014. The staff seems to know nothing about safeguarding patient data. This is by far the worst customer service experience that I have ever had! It doesn't matter if the doctors are qualified, good and caring. You will never get past the rude, disorganized and frightfully incompetent front desk staff (this goes for both the Salem and Lawrence locations). You don't need to look any further than all of the other 1 star reviews to see that there is a trend toward terrible customer service and patient care at Tallman Eye Associates. PURE MISERY!!! This was such an awful experience. I called the day before the appointment to learn what to expect for my 2 year old son's check-up (recommended by his pedi). They told me it would take 2 hours (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) when I asked what was going to be done they said the dr. or nurse would call back. No one did. So when I arrived and they told me they would need to dilate my sons eyes and he'd have sensitive and blurry vision all day we had to leave as I hadn't arranged to be home with him for the day and he needed to go to daycare. HE IS GREAT, wonderful dr and terrific human being, kind, compassionate, and remembers everyone. I came to your practice about a year ago after my insurance changed. Everyone there has been great to deal with, but someone that goes above and beyond is Andrea D (mostly at the N. Andover Shop). I just picked up my forth pair of glasses, I have never had that many current scripts at one time! Andrea has me enthused about my eye wear and she works so hard to make sure my glasses come in PERFECT. My latest pair that I ordered, Andrea actually had to send hers to the lab to show them the EXACT color tint that I wanted. You rock Andrea! read more

I brought my 7-year-old daughter because she failed a school eye exam and needed to get glasses for the first time.The front desk receptionist, optometrist, and technician were all fine and very nice. My complaint is with the optical shop. First, they refused to give me the ocular distance -- which they are required by law to provide-- so I can take my prescription elsewhere. Their selection of frames for girls was pitiful, but we managed to find a halfway decent pair. Then, it took more than 2 weeks for the glasses to come in, and they never even called me when they arrived! I've been wearing glasses for 30 years and have never waited more than a week for a complicated prescription. Making a kid wait 18 days is unaccaptable. read more

This review is for the optical shop. Was in today with broken frames, the day before Thanksgiving. Have Trisha a call right at 8AM, she said to come in and see if she could match the lens to a frame. Once I arrived Trisha was right there to help. She spent about 30 minutes searching for and configuring a frame that fit the existing lens. The service was outstanding and Trisha was the nicest person I've dealt with in a long time. I wasn't a current customer but will be when it's time for my next eye exam.
