Stay far away. If I could give zero stars I would. I filed a complaint with the state against Tallman Eye for fraudulent billing practices. I booked an annual eye exam, which is covered in full by my vision insurance. I received a bill months later for a "medical exam" which they billed to my medical insurance. I spoke with billing several times, each time explaining the situation. I was told on several occasions that someone would speak to a manager and get back to me about correcting the issue. I also provided the information for my vision insurance several times. Some of the people I spoke with were helpful and agreed it was an error made on their end; however, I still never received a call back. It's now been months. When I called in today, the woman I spoke with said there's no record of my calls, that they don't have a record of my vision insurance, that she couldn't take my vision insurance because the claim was already filed as medical, and that there's nothing they can do. Tallman is billing my medical insurance, and costing me out of pocket costs, for something that should be fully covered by vision insurance. read more

There is one doctor on sight. At any given time, there are 10+ people in the waiting room. Apparently they schedule people 10 at a time and they simply have to wait. I had a 9:00 appointment today and I saw the doctor at 10:15. I expect backups later in the day, but first thing in the morning? Their work is OK. The staff and doctor are nice. But I think it's a bit disrespectful to the patients to have them waiting so long. This is an eye doctor, not the emergency room. read more

I have my eye exams here by Dr Johnson and he is excellent, very thorough. I have never had a bad experience and want to be sure to share that. I'm sure there could be bad days at the office but in my experience have not had trouble, the ladies up front are lovely and I have never had any issues. would recommend. read more

The person making the appointment over the phone is so rude!! I was giving the information she was asking and you can hear that she's just annoyed. Then in the end I said "thank you very much, I appreciate your help" she said "yup. I know" LOL she needs some customer service training! Everyone else is very nice! read more

I recently had to have eye surgery here at Tallman Eye Associates. It's not like me at all to just come out and badmouth businesses, services, or especially medical practices or clinics, but I'm going to make a brief exception here. The coordination of my care was atrocious throughout. From start to finish, horrid. Two of my follow-up appointments were assigned to me with poor notice. One was provided to me on a blue appointment card that was inserted into a folder, but no one ever verbally told me the day, time, or the doctor I'd be seeing on that day. I found out about it when I got a robo call to confirm the appointment, then found the blue card in the folder later. The other follow-up appointment was made at another Tallman Eye Clinic with another type of doctor or clinician, and I didn't find out about that one until I received a robo call to confirm a few days before it was set. In general, most medical support staff as well as support clinicians had a very bad attitude, were sometimes pushy and even condescending. Then, throughout my visits for care, only some clinicians and medical staff would have the equipment cleaned and sanitized beforehand, others did not. Some clinicians would clean the testing or measuring apparatus right in front of me, others would rush me into the chair and put my head and face onto a machine or device that clearly had skin oil smudges on it from the person (or persons) who used it before me, or I entered an exam room immediately following another patient or client without the attending clinician or doctor taking the time to sanitize for me. Bad attitudes all over Tallman. I don't know if the holiday season was stressing workers out, or if flat-out burnout or toxic work peers caused everyone there to be in such sour moods. But they were in a collective negative funk most every time I had an appointment regardless of location. Overall, Tallman Eye Associates made me feel as though I was less of a person going through a necessary medical intervention and more like a widget on a slow moving, unstable, and coarse assembly belt. read more

I want to state. My Eye Dr. is the best doctor and this isn't a reflection on him. My prescription expired back on 1/23/25. Paperwork sent over from Tallman to my insurance incomplete. Blue Cross kicked back and said to complete form. Tallman never responded. I called Tallman, my insurance company called them and left several messages. I gave the from desk lady (I think Angelia) who was the sweetest young lady and so helpful. she send emails to the so called person wo does the renewals. Again, nothing. I finally got a email for the person who handles these and told her this is stupid as it it is now 3/11. she finally response and said she is handling now. I have been without my prescription for over 2 months. All the work done for my dry eyes was a waste of time as my eyes feel exactly the way they felt when I started this journey a while ago. Stay away from them. They misdiagnosed my eye bleed as something to watch instead of treating it right away and it destroyed my macula and I will never have any useful vision out of my right eye. Went to Mass Eye and Ear and they said I should have received a shot of eyelia right away to control the bleeding and I would be able to see today. Still receiving care at ME&E 5 years later. My husband went to Tallman over a year ago (probably closer to 2 years ago) for an exam with an issue with his eye. Now we are getting bills for thousands of dollars for a surgery he never had. It seems perhaps they submitted it on the wrong person's file, but we have been trying to resolve this for a couple of months to no avail. Hoping this review will get their attention to fix the problem. I truly hope it was a mistake, and not fraud. I have been a patient at Tallman for over 20 years. This is the Best of the BEST in eye care. I travel from Boston now, as I would never go else where. Highly recommend these doctors. I have some very complicated eye issues and this practice has been able to tackle them and always knows when to refer to a specialist. I take my children and never hesitate to recommend! read more

Tallman Eye Associates have very incompetent people in their office and billing. They supposedly check with your insurance before percorming cataract surgery and tell you it's approved. They obviously did not check for you but thought you had insurance in a state you DID NOT live in. consequently because of their error you now have to pay thousands because your insurance did not cover the surgery. so now you owe thousands because of their incompetence. Do not have them do anything for you. They do not use common sense and it will definitely cost you. What a place that does this to those living in a fixed income. read more

I was a long-time patient of Tallman, but as of early 2021, I decided to call it quits with Tallman. Dr. Yanni is an awesome doctor, but the office mgr, Claudia, is likened to Medusa. You go into the office and the entire place has changed, not necessarily for the betterment. Staffing is different too. Once I walked in there and saw Dr. Yanni & Maureen, their longtime receptionist, I was good. but during my exit, dealing with Claudia, ya can't wait to get away from her. She rarely smiles and has the personality of a tank in a glass shop. She's long overdue for retiring. read more

I had an eye exam last week at the Salem location, and , reading the reviews here I am very surprised. The doctor I saw was lovely ( a young lady), the desk staff were helpful and kind ( 2 ladies up front) and the process was so smooth! I had a bit of a wait but that isn't suprising at a doctors office, and they do ask everyone wear a mask but that felt very safe and clean to me. Would recommend them to anyone! read more

This is NOT concerning any of the doctors there. This is regarding their telephone (Appointment makers) personnel. I called to make a change to my appt. and was on hold for 7 minutes until I decided to hang up and call back. This happened 6 times til I finally waited it out for someone to answer. This group knows the meaning of "Patient Care". The surgical coordinator, Maria Gonzalez, was incredible. Accessible, responsive, and organized. I felt as though the whole experience was smooth and great. Dr. Sam Allen was professional and very calming and responsive. My results for lens replacement for a cataract was immediately better than expected. Well done. The Andover surgical center was organized and professional. I highly recommend this group. read more

To preface this, I have never needed eye glasses before so I was new to the eye exam process. Pros: -Office and waiting area is nice. -The technician that did some initial tests on my eyes was informative and explained everything. Cons: -I felt rushed through the whole process. -poor communication skills from Dr Burkhart and the office staff -poor customer service skills from Dr Burkhart and the office staff Dr Burkhart didn't explain anything he was doing. He told me that I have an astigmatism. I asked him "what is that?" He replied "Wait!" He proceeded to put on a video and then left the room saying "watch this". After watching the video explain an astigmatism, I waited for about five minutes while he was working on another patient. He then came back and said "you get it?". He handed me my prescription and showed me to the check out receptionist. No conversation, no time for my questions, just poor customer service. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I bet the other review with 4 stars is someone who works there. Oh yeah, and when I went to talk to their guy who sells the frames and lenses, he said he couldn't help he because he had to go to Nashua (4:40pm....prob wanted to go home). If you want to wait for 45 min to 2 hours past your appointment time AND get bad service and wrong percription, Tallman (Waitforeverman) is the place for you. The Staff at reception is both ignorant and rude. They will claim "you are next" as person after person are called in ahead of you, even though their appointment was 30-45 min AFTER you. We literally were asking people as they were being called up "What time is your appointment" and it was over half an hour past ours. This just happened today, so all the other 1 stars were right, I wish we had checked yelp first. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Can't even get the prescription right either, so it isn't worth the extended wait. read more

Huge, clean waiting room. Large plasma TV. Large friendly staff. Prompt service. The Dr I saw did a thorough exam while being friendly & down to earth at the same time. Best of all, far prices and no hidden fee's I had made my appointment for N. Andover location, but I was able to change it to a Saturday appointment in the Salem NH location. I recently went in for a yearly contact lens exam and they were extremely rude, I waited for an hour and when my service was over checking out was a nightmare. The receptionist skipped me and help the lady standing behind me because she told me I would take longer to check out which makes absolutely no sense. They told me to always expect appointments to last about 2 hours. I overheard them tell another man, this same thing, as well. The appointments DO NOT take that long, but they do keep you waiting for an hour after your appt time, to even be seen. The "specialist" Dr. Eagle, is rude and snobby and the other employees are very unprofessional. I had to say something because my 5 year old daughter started thinking she was messing up the eye exam. The lady was like, "no, try harder." It's not a guessing game! I was livid. Then Dr. Eagle refused to take responsibilty for my daughter's very wrong prescription and said, after 9 months, that "maybe her vision got better." No. She just never actually looked into her eyes. She kept mentioning that she wasn't a regular doctor but a specialist. She spoke to me like I was not intelligent. Bad experience. I left there quite angry! read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. The Dr was good but the time with her was only about 5% of the visit (not worth the one star). The check in process is through a computer (even though there are two woman sitting in the front desk area), it was kind of a pain and nearly impossible for Seniors. I waited a full 30 min after my appointed time to be seen by the Dr (and I was 15 min early to the appt). Dr experience was good... check out was brutal... nothing was explained. I thought a contact order that I discussed with the dr was processed because the charge at check out was more than just my copay and the receipts have ZERO external detail on them (internal line items with numbers only). A week and a half later, I find out the order was never placed, so I then ask them to place it and I'm told they need my prescription...????? They are the ones who issued the prescription!!! The woman I spoke with had no idea what she was doing or how to do anything at all, worst customer service I've ever experienced. The order gets delivered and it's not what I wanted them to order and they charged me $75 for something I can get elsewhere for $40, everything overpriced!!! Needless to say, I returned the order (again a hassle of a process) and will NEVER DO BUSINESS THERE AGAIN! My husband had a similar experience with the glasses dept. Was told if he got progressives he'd have 30 days to return them if he didn't like them. He didn't like them, called to return them for single lens glasses and when he asked about the refund (progressives are more expensive then single lens by 100's of dollars) he was told it was "industry standard" that they don't refund... ?!?!?! He made a few other phone calls and was finally able to get a refund. I would never recommend this office, in fact, I'd do just the opposite... keeping looking if you're thinking of using Tallman in Salem!!!!! They are awful! read more

Went for an annual eye exam. They have gone to a computer to check in. Highly impersonal. I didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen. However, the doctor that saw me seemed extremely rushed. He did a quick vision check (which one looks better). I let him know of an issue I was having and he dismissed it as not knowing the cause, but not being concerned. I had to bring it up again for him to even look at my eyes. Apparently looking at the patient's eye is no longer part of the exam. It was only then that he noticed what was causing the problem I was having. There are so many places that are better. My husbands new primary care physician set him up with an appointment here for a routine eye exam. Our insurance covers eye exams in full. Imagine my surprise when we received a bill for $125.00 for his exam. At first I thought the insurance had been submitted wrong. This was not the case. Their bill was for $438.00!!!!!!!! I can't blame my insurance company for not paying it in full!! A regular eye exam averages $150.00! I asked him if he had been picked up in a limo, given champagne and caviar, and treated to a massage while he waited (a very long time) for his scheduled appointment. Sadly, he was not. I would never send anyone to this over-rated, over-priced, poorly run establishment!! read more

Called and left a message to make an appointment. Got a call back and was given the option of Salem, Haverhill, Lawrence or N. Andover. Opted for Salem as that is the closest office. Show up for the appointment and the technician who did the initial check was fine and the eye doctor was good. Go to check out and to see my options for purchasing new glasses (my prescription changed) and the receptionist was rude and unhelpful (asked for a pen so I could sign my credit card slip and the pen was practically thrown at me). Was only then advised that the optical shop in Salem is closed for the entire week (had I known this upfront I would have gone to one of the other locations with with an open optical shop to save an extra step). Okay, fine. I'm told I will need to make another appointment with one of the other offices to be fitted for new glasses. I get home and call back to make the second appointment to get glasses and am told by the receptionist that I can get an appointment the next day in Haverhill or a few days out in Lawrence. I book the appointment for 2PM the next day in Haverhill. When I show up (on time) for the appointment in Haverhill I am told by the woman in the optical shop that I am not on the schedule and that my appointment was set for the following day. They don't send any type of appointment confirmation text, email or call. The customer service here sucks. This will be my first and last time using Tallman eye. read more

I should have listened to all the negative reviews. How do you tell a patient that they don't have vision coverage when they actually do, then try to charge $110.00 out-of-pocket expense. I left work early to go to this appointment, just to be told I didn't have vision coverage under my BCBS insurance. This should have been told to me prior to me walking through those doors, not when I'm standing at the counter. I called my insurance company and was told I absolutely DO have insurance. I called Tallman back and the staff said, oh yeah you do have insurance, we just don't take that kind. Hello, you can't do that to people...making them think they don't have coverage. Then telling them they can pay over $100 in out-of-pocket expense. I should have listened to all the negative reviews Tallman has, they are deserved! read more

I will never ever step foot in this office again. After waiting 40 minutes in the waiting room, I approached the receptionist to inquire about how much more time I would be waiting. The receptionist was abrupt and rude while informing me I was next. Another 20 minutes later, I was finally called. The assistant was even ruder than the receptionist. The optometrist came in after 15 minutes, never introduced himself and began my eye exam. To say he seemed annoyed by my presence is an understatement! Once he finished my exam he got up and left the room without saying anything. He came back in with my script and showed me out. I waited a long time for someone to help with picking out frames. The receptionist at the Salem office is an absolute troll. I've been going to Tallman Eye for over ten years and have never been spoken to the way this woman spoke to me. She could not figure out my insurance and this resulted in me waiting over an hour and missing my appointment when I was dealing with swollen eyelids and inflammation. The way she spoke to myself and other patients was completely disrespectful, unprofessional, and out of line. I will never return to the Salem office. read more

This is by far the worst customer service experience that I have ever had! It doesn't matter if the doctors are qualified, good and caring. You will never get past the rude, disorganized and frightfully incompetent front desk staff (this goes for both the Salem and Lawrence locations). You don't need to look any further than all of the other 1 star reviews to see that there is a trend toward terrible customer service and patient care at Tallman Eye Associates. My 88 year old Mother went to the Salem office to have her eye measured for surgery. The employee was verbally abusive to her because she did not understand what she wanted her to do during the procedure. My Mother left in tears. NOT OK. I am very frustrated with my eye problems and am not happy with the treatment I am getting at Tallman Eye Associates. I feel like it is a conveyor belt, out quickly, andmy doctor did not spend any time to diagnose the problem. just assumed it was age and winter. Maybe ok for the first visit, but the steroid drops and otc drops I was given did not help at all, and I reported increasingly severe pain, there was still the same assumption. He gave me a prescription for Ristasis on the second visit, and a coupon for eye drops that expired 6 months before. The prescription is not helping, so if I go back again it will be three times they get to bill my insurance and another copay for me before I even find out what is wrong. I have talked to some people who had this problem with eye doctors, and were able to find doctors who spent some time tring to figure out why this is happening, I will be searching for that option myself. read more

If I could give this negative stars, I would. Made an appointment with Dr. Eagle for my daughter at 11 am. Got a call the day before asking if I would bring my daughter in at 9:50. We checked in, got called to the desk and was told her appointment was for 8:30. Was told the doctor was leaving at 11 and wouldn't see her for her original appointment even though the office made a scheduling error and then proceeded to tell me they wouldn't see my daughter at all that day. Doctors that don't see their patient's time as important as theirs will absolutely NOT be getting my business. read more

The optometrist is used to see there is good, however, the office has gone downhill otherwise. Check-in is done at an electronic kiosk, good luck to elderly with vision problems. The check-out staff can be surly and I don't know why they would be. They used to have an excellent optician but he left and those that remain are OK but not the best. They dilate your eyes with drops because they don't have the latest machine that eliminates the need for dilation. I left the practice after being a patient for many years. read more

The staff here is great but the doctor-specifically valenti-seems to be ver inconsiderate, and the office hours are very limited. Las time I was here valenti was canceling an appointment 2 hours before it started bc he wanted to go home early that day and the woman could not get out of work any earlier than 4pm. Today I had an appointment at 8 the doctor didn't make to the office until 820. I am here for a "contact fitting" an appointment I made almost 3 weeks ago, but the don't have the correct prescription lenses so I am supposed to wear these for a few weeks and let them know how I like them. I can't see so how am I supposed to know if these are a good match? And really you couldn't do this "fitting" aka putting one pair of contacts in my eyes during my evaluation 3 weeks ago? I needed to take more time off of work to pay $150 to put the wrong pair of contacts in my own eyes and wait for the doctor? read more

My first time here was 5 years ago and the receptionist was awful and terribly rude to me (I was 15 at the time) because I was asking questions that "she didn't have time or want to answer" and then started an argument with my mother in a waiting room full of people over something the receptionist did, then we had an all around unpleasant experience with the eye doctor. I went back today for my yearly check up, obviously nervous it would be awful, and was completely blown away at how caring and awesome the staff were!!! The new receptionist was lovely and so friendly! My new eye doctor is the best and Will, the man in the glasses shop was the icing on the cake! He spent 20 minutes with me as i tried on a dozen glasses and gave me honest opinions on each, which was awesome because I was by myself and I haven't picked out new glasses in years. I really appreciate his commitment to helping his customers without being too pushy and over your shoulder. Everyone was so helpful and it was awesome to have a great experience. I only rate this a 4 because of my past experience. read more

When I got a new script the gentlemen in the area where you purchase glasses was very detached, no help at all, went and checked his cell phone while I was waiting to try on glasses. He lacks people skills, which I would think you would want someone to have to help patients pick out glasses, very gruff at times. He is the reason I'm not purchasing my glasses at Tallsman. read more
