I had been looking for a new horse park to take my granddaughter when she visits. The last couple of times at other places it seemed more like a glorified pony ride. The horses did not seem very healthy either. I came across Tally Ho on Facebook. I was impressed by the owner's generous spirit and kindness to others. Marti does so much for Veterans and others. I figured that care would transfer to her horses and to her guests...and I was right. I was immediately struck by how warm and welcoming Marti was when she greeted us. Then when I saw the horses and facilities I knew I hit the jackpot. Very clean, very organized and gorgeous horses that are very well taken care of. Marti is all about teaching. This isn't " plop on a horse and get led around." You LEARN. And in a very fun way! By the end of our session my 6 year old granddaughter was off the lead and really riding! She was ecstatic. She also learned how to care for a horse (as did I) which is important. She LOVED it and can't stop talking about it. I rode too and I've never had anyone take the time to teach me. It was thrilling to be able to actually understand how a horse thinks and what I need to do to ride. It was a huge confidence boost and I am actually getting teary eyed writing this thinking of Marti and of course, my girl Maddie. Tally Ho is now my go to place. And it's not just for kids. I would have loved for this to be a great review for this business. And after our first visit, we had only good things to say about it. Our 8 year old son, wanted to learn how to ride horses. He is a small framed boy, that weights a little over 60 lb. Very good student in a GATE school. First lesson was nice. He observed and help in caring for the horse before and after ridding. There was almost no explanation on how to ride from an instructor, only a few remarks here and there, as corrections. We thought that for a first encounter was fair, we paid for a full month of lessons, and he left happy. The second lesson was not as "smooth". The owner expected him to be able to care for the horse alone before riding, including cleaning, harnessing, and so on. He was confused, she was raising the voice to him, and didn't allow me to help him, stating that this is the only way to learn. I agreed and stepped back. He started the riding, yet he had difficulties being alone on the horse in the arena. The owner continued to yell commends to him; commends that he didn't understand this being the second time he was on a horse. At one point. The owner asked me to go into the arena and correct his posture, because she was not feeling well. My son asked to end the class early because he was too upset crying. Next week, after having a discussion with a child about how he needs to approach the lesson in a serious way, we camo again for the third lesson. This time I decided to stay away from his sight, yet I was able to observe the lesson. He was asked again to tend for the horse alone, not guided at all, yet yelled at all the time that he is not doing things well. Again, this is an 8 year old, that is near a horse for the third time in his life. He has no idea yet on how to secure a saddle, let aside, he has no muscle strength to lift it on the horse. He was asked to lead the horse and mount it on his own. He was again confused and unsure. Once on the horse and on his way to the ring, the owner got upset, came to him and ask him to get off the horse. The child was not able to do it quick enough for her taste, so he was yanked off by her, brought back to me, when she stated that he is not listening, not following directions and she is not able to teach a child like this. Keep in mind this is a place that take pride in taking care of individuals with disabilities. The child was in a lot of distress, cried the entire drive home for over 40 minutes. To mention, during the second lesson there was another child of similar age, that was yelled at in the same way the entire lesson. During our first encounter the owner made sure to talk bad about other similar places, while emphasizing how good they are at Tally Ho. I will acknowledge that the owner offered money back when stating that she cannot teach him, money that I refused to take back. By all means, we want our son to learn how to ride and how to tend to all horse needs. However, this place has no understanding on how to tend for a child learning needs. read more

Marty runs a great operation . She is amazing with the kids ! Marty really teaches the kids what is is really like to care for a horse .

Marti is amazing what she does for her community and for the therapeutic community is such a blessing. She helps everyone she can whether it be non profits, local business. She is an angel. She knows her stuff and if you want someone who not only has a huge heart for animals, her horse kids, but who also is the safest and smartest instructor I know. I visited once and all the trainer did was smoke. One girl there was speaking innaproproetely while facetiming someone (probably her friend) around a younger small girl. I didn't see many older kids, so this is probably a place for beginners. Won't be bringing my children here. read more

My disabled son,Joel, started taking lessons from Marti Stevens in 2013. She always makes sure he is safe, comfortable, understood, and has a good time riding. After watching him ride for years, I decided to start taking lessons as an adult. Marti is a fabulous teacher! My son and I both look forward to our Friday lessons! I'm disappointed in our recent experience for my 8 year old daughter. Being an intermediate rider myself and having had my own share of lessons over the years (not from Tally Ho), I was excited to share my passion for horses. Lessons were her Christmas Gift, and her first close experience with horses. Over the past 4 weeks, my daughter had 3 lessons and attended 1 barn day without a lesson. At the 3rd lesson she had a difficult time remembering how to position the halter when placing over the horses head. She was expected to have remembered this after only having done it a few times one of which was the day before. Rather than patiently showing my 8 year how put on the halter again after she made it known that she had forgotten, my daughter was humiliated in front of other kids and another adult in the barn at the time and told to look at another horse to figure it out on her own. When she couldn't do that it seems Marti decided she's not a fast enough learner & called me to come get her. I had also witnessed this manner of "teaching" at other visits to the barn not only to my daughter but also to other students and chose to look past it since my daughter seemed to be enjoying time with the horses. I received a phone call to come and get my daughter 6 minutes after dropping her off. When I arrived to pick her up she was standing in the stall behind the horse waiting to be rescued from an embarrassing situation trying to do the same thing as when I left. I was given my check back for Feb lessons (which I had just paid) with no other explanation other than Marti thought my daughter would rather be someplace else & was acting like she'd never been there before. Nonsense, she absolutely loves horses & looked forward to going to lessons. She is however shy and doesn't respond well to humiliation as a learning tactic. I'm confused as to why rather than just stepping in & helping, Marti was stubborn and didn't want to deal with showing her again. This is her barn & she's free to run it a she pleases. It's clearly not for us. I'm not sure how this place handles disabled children, I'm guessing there must be another instructor but we never met one. I'm now waiting on a refund for my last lesson that was to be made up next week after being rained out. I would not recommend Marty for beginners unless you or your child has very thick skin. She may have been a patient teacher at one time however it appears her passion is for established riders now who don't need assistance step by step. Overall, this is a sink or swim environment that not everyone is cut out for. read more
