We checked out Tamale Box's new Liberty Lake spot (their second location) and it's exactly what you want from an authentic Mexican tamale place. The inside is modern + cozy, maybe 5-6 tables, with some nice outdoor seating if the weather cooperates. The tamales? Absolutely killer. Full of flavor and perfectly balanced -- salt, savory, acid, spice -- all playing nice together. We got the 2-tamale rice and beans combo with shredded beef and cheese + jalapeño and both were 10/10. Available to buy by the half or full dozen if need be. If the Tamale Box crew happens to read this, my only feedback: serve those beauties a touch warmer (ours were barely warm). I was so impressed with this place. The tamales were absolutely perfect. I had the cheese and jalapeño combo with a Mexican Coke. I'll be thinking about at all week now, yum! The location is cozy and I really like the design - modern but warm and accessible. Staff were very friendly and helpful with recommendations. The menu is super simple, which I appreciate. I absolutely love the Tamale Box, and I am so excited for the new location in Liberty Lake. The quality is always top notch and I love the addition of combo plates. I added the side of guac for $1.50 which sets everything off. Literally the best guacamole in Spokane and the homemade sauces are delicious. A guest at my friend's house in Liberty Lake. My friend suggested tamales for dinner so we drove on over! We ordered chicken, black bean and cheese & jalapeño! We ordered the combo meal. The combo consist's of a tamale, Mexican rice and refried beans. The refried beans are black and they were delicious, the rice was flavorful less and my cheese/jalapeño tamale was wonderful!! Yummy! One can either eat in or take the food away. We took our order home. The shop is quaint. The shop has a nice array of drinks that include wine and beer. The staff were friendly. My friend wanted two black bean but they only had one, she was given two frozen black bean tamales to take home at no charge because she expressed disappointment they had only one. Great customer service! If to had this wonderful gem within a 5 minute walk from my house I would eat here weekly! If you like tamales I recommend this place! Delicious!! read more

damn good! I've always loved tamales and very often was disappointed with the masa to meat ratio from restaurants. These seem to have a better balance than most. 2 of them with a side or 2 is a good meal. Of course, I'd have no trouble with 3 or 4! Both green and red salsa were good, not hot, but spicy. The young man who was serving us was very nice, smiled, and had a good attitude. The place was spotless clean. My buddy who led me there gave me a hot tip I'll pass on to y'all. Buy a dozen to take home. They can be frozen with no issues. Put a very thin layer of olive oil or avo oil on them and air fry them so you get a nice crunchy crust. BOOM! read more

Holy tamale, Batman! These were the best tamales I've ever had! Drop your next meal plan and go straight over to Tamale Box for your next outing. Every single aspect of this lunch was so incredible, I failed to take pictures before I dove in. The combos are a bit on the pricier side ($18 for two 1/2lb tamales, beans and rice) but they are completely worth every penny, especially considering the amount of food you receive. I ordered the cheese/jalapeño and pork chile verde tamales and they were absolutely delicious! They were HUGE and the masa to filling ratio was perfect. Usually when you get tamales, you run the risk of getting mostly masa with a smattering of meat or cheese in the middle but not here! They weren't dry either - they had a great amount of moisture so they practically melted in my mouth. I was happily surprised by the refried black beans...they were really creamy and super flavorful. The rice was a bit dry but it was still nicely cooked so it wasn't crunchy or hard. The homemade salsas were a great addition as well! Lastly, the food was still piping hot when I snagged it up ten minutes past my original pick up time. Kudos to you, Tamale Box! This Hispanic, ex-Californian has had a lot of tamales and is highly impressed with what you've built here in Liberty Lake...a city sorely in need of healthy, flavorful options instead of fast food chains. Super clean, conveniently located off the main road, and the food is delicious. I was greeted with a warm smile and asked if I had any questions about the menu. The Tamales are larger than other restaurants and have plenty of meat. I met the Owner and his family before they opened - they're from the same area in CA that we lived. We ordered a shredded beef combo and cheese jalapeno combo. What surprised me was the size of the tamales. They are proper dinner size and they are loaded with meat/cheese. Normally, I don't get beans at restaurants but these looked and tasted delicious. The horchata was not too sweet and the salsa's were excellent. Nothing tasted greasy and I love that everything is gluten free. Our meal was fresh and tasted wonderful. The spice levels in the food were expertly managed and not too spicy. Great for us seniors. The restaurant itself was incredibly clean which I really appreciate and the staff is so kind and welcoming. The restaurant is a little hidden but easy to get too. Plenty of parking and indoor /outdoor seating. The value for $ is EXCELLENT. Do yourself a favor and give this restaurant a try. We will definitely be back. read more
