The least impressive wonton wrapper rellenos (which in itself is disappointing) I've sampled in Colorado. Weak tomato sauce with some green chile in it being served as their "green chile" smothering. Only impressive thing about the sauce was how un-green chile like it was! I'd skip this place unless you are stuck on foot in the burbs. We tried Tamale Kitchen on Kipling for the first time last night, after my kids were indecisive as to what they wanted at another fast food place nearby. The chili and salsa were spicy. The Mexican hamburger burrito was okay, although I did not like the seasoning on the patty. The egg and potato smothered burrito my wife had was pretty good. The prices were decent for fast Mexican style food. I have never been to the Original location, but would like to if their food is allegedly better. The food was fast. The cashiers were smiling at least. It looks like things have changed some since many Reviewers made negative comments on the staff. I got the combo #1 in a take out box to eat in the restaurant. The employee handed it to me in a tied up grocery bag- the red sauce in the styrofoam container had already spilled out into the bag before it was handed off to me. Needless to say when I sat down at their table, it was really messy to open. Then the food itself honestly just tasted really bad. It was just a red mess of bad food. My sister swears by this place so, staying with her in Littleton and fiending for tacos, we gave them a whirl. We weren't disappointed, but I will have to try them again to get a better feel for their service. The food was very good. The steak and shredded beef in the tacos was well-seasoned, but there needed to be fixings (although in their defense the cashier had never heard of "street-style tacos."). My brother in law's burrito was great but seemed spicier than he expected haha I'm still on the fence about the service. The cashier, who I hear is either an owner or co-owner, was a bit laconic and in repose the look on his face seemed a bit pissed off at my existence. That said he accommodated our order changes and whatever else so he was effective, just ... a bit sinister? We aren't in that area often, but the food was good enough that we're willing to give them another shot, perhaps inserting some more requests into the order to get it just right. The only thing I have eaten so far has been a "special" breakfast burrito with bacon. Specials have the green chili inside. You can also get plain and smothered. I stopped in this morning with $10 in ones and bought a buritto and a bunch of drinks for the kids. Gave the guy my 10 ones and told him I had a lot of ones because I'm a male stripper. I love the original Tamale Kitchen at Morrison Rd and Sheridan. At Christmas time, I buy a mess of tamales, green chile, and all the fixings for a family Christmas Eve fiesta. When this store opened in my neighborhood, I jumped for joy. Joy didn't particularly like that, so I stopped jumping. ;o) Boy, was I surprised! Everything costs at least a buck more than the Morrison and Sheridan store, from burritos to combination plates. For example, a Pork Special burrito (meaning with green chile inside) is $5.00. Smothered, it is over $6.00. For ONE burrito. I don't recall paying more than $4.00 for the same item at the other store. Don't even try to buy your tamales here for Christmas, not unless you want to take out a loan. Though they taste the same (everything does, thankfully), they're easily twice the price of those sold at the original store. This is a tiny cantina. If you're a big guy like me, get it to go. There's no place to sit for the "big boned." The wait staff is usually depressed and disinterested in helping customers. In the few years I've stopped in, usually with a coupon, I have yet to receive a thank you for my business. If you don't want to drive over to Morrison and Sheridan and have a coupon, stop in. For any other reason, especially if you're ordering a few items, it's less expensive to drive to the original. And, that's a shame! read more

Really hard to continue giving this business my dollars. I try to support local eateries. Food is Ok, not authentic at all but gets the job done when you are craving Mexican. Just know not to expect great. Service is soooooo disappointing. Not sure if it's the owner but gentleman running the cash register and taking orders is so incredibly rude. I was so close to walking out after asking questions on a few items and he was clearly irritated. No customer service or kindness to customers. I'm sorry - am I bugging you? I can find closer Mexican food with great service and appreciation for customers. I ordered a family pack #2. Such a waste of time and money. Not enough food to feed barely two people for $40 bucks. They have a menu variety that will keep anyone happy and the quality is pretty good. Their consistency is reliable and it's not a bad deal for quick Mexican take out. The few times I have eaten there, the restaurant and kitchen appear to be clean and presentable. The staff could stand to be a little nicer. I will eat there again. read more

I keep going back here. The hot green chili is great. But, you have to ask for hot. When the food is good, it's Awesome! And when the food is bad, it's still pretty good. Sometimes it seems like the tortillas are fresher than others. Which is the only real complaint I have. It can be hit or miss in that regard. read more

I went to Tamale Kitchen to pick up some breakfast around 11:00 on New Year's Day. They get props for being open on New Year's Day because quite a few places are closed. Also, they get extra points for serving breakfast all day. We ordered four burritos. One was smothered, two had chili and cheese on the inside, and one was just a regular burrito. My order took between 20 and 30 minutes to prepare which seemed like quite a while for four breakfast burritos, but they were quite busy, so this may be an unusually long wait. The smothered burrito did not travel well. I had no idea which side was up, and the bag was soaked with chili when I got home. I recommend just ordering with a side of green chili to smother with when you get home. The burrito that stood out as a winner was the sausage. It was packed with little bits of sausage, and the cheese and chili melded into the egg and potato perfectly. The bacon seemed "carelessly" wrapped, and the steak burrito was quite salty. I'd stop by Tamale Kitchen again to check out the non-breakfast fare, but I'll be sure to phone in my order to avoid the long wait. read more

I called the restaurant to ask about the coronavirus precautions the employees were taking. Was told that the cooks wear gloves like usual. I asked if they were wearing masks for food prep/cooking and was told no. Then I asked if the people at the register were wearing any sort of protection at all and was told no. Also no curbside pickup. The man I spoke to was rather rude during the entire exchange. In our efforts to support local businesses, we will not be returning to a restaurant that does not consider the health and safety of their employees and customers....EVER. read more

Well, the Mexican hamburger my friend ordered was inedible. The meat was pre made and then reheated in the microwave. Ground beef does not take well to this abuse, neither do customers. Something worse than you might make a frat pledge eat. Clearly serving tasty delicious fresh food is not the plan, here. Crank out the slop, might me more descriptive. If you like to enjoy your food. To start, I'm reviewing this place for their breakfast burritos. While the green chile makes my top 5 (depending on my craving for that day), the ratio of potatoes to eggs/meat leaned towards the potatoes, which is not to my liking. Also, the bacon was nearly-burnt-beyond-crunch. (Can you call that un-American?) It is a great place to grab breakfast on most holidays. They are super quick with the food and they have to be with the amount of people I see going in and out in the morning to get there quick breakfast burrito fix. There tamales are pretty decent too. I really enjoyed their food. I was scared that the taco plate would have store bought Taco Bell shells but they were just like mine corn fried tortillas and delicious. Someone note I am calling it sauce and not green chile please? I don't know what it is BUT it was greasy, runny, and HHHHHOOOOOOTTTTTTT. I made a very last minute call to have it on the side instead of smothered, and am happy to have listened to my instinct. The burrito was okay, but truthfully, a couple of bites I swear tasted like the tortilla had been previously frozen, and there wasn't much sausage. It was not greasy though, which is good. The place is clean, and my order was prepared quickly. I am questioning why my kids love this place. OH wait! They are all in college. Of course they love it. Cheap and filling. Yikes, might have been an off day, but I remember the smothered breakfast burrito being much better than our latest visit to the Kipling location this last weekend. Very disappointed... We have been coming here since they opened and have always thought their food was just ok at best - a few steps above Casa Bonita. However it was close and generally had quick service so we came back again and again. However, after our last visit on 12/26/16, we will not ever be back again and will drive the long treck to Santiagos. When we got there around 11am, there was a line to order, which is not uncommon. We waited in line and finally ordered. Our order was not complicated; 4 tacos and a burrito. The guy behind me ordered a pint of green chili. My order was about 5 numbers away so I expected to wait for about 10-15 minutes. They called the number before mine, 72, then called 75. Ok... I realize some things take less time to make so I wasn't upset. When over 30 minutes passed (as I'm sitting at the bar counter directly in front of the cash registers) and they called 85, I then went to the counter and asked what was up. Edgar, the guy who took my order said he didn't know what happened but would get my order going. I guess that was his idea of an apology for a terribly long wait for essentially fast food. I told him the guy behind me ordered a pint of green chili and couldn't imagine it took over 30 minutes to scoop green chili into a Styrofoam container. They got on his green chili right away. Another 10 minutes passed, THAT'S OVER A 40 MINUTE WAIT IF YOU ARE KEEPING TRACK, they finally had my simple order. I never got an apology for the very long wait. I realize it wasn't the cashier's fault but an apology goes a long way in terms of customer service. They didn't offer my a free drink while I continued to wait or to comp any part of my order. Essentially my order just got lost in space... not necessarily anyone's fault but in terms of customer service - this was one of the worst. Again, we will not be back. read more

Really? Whose hours are until 7:50? Clearly they did not want my business and I was insulted by their attitude. I give tamale kitchen 2 stars for a few reasons. #1 Customer service could be much better and employees could be much more friendly. #2 the food is good and reasonably priced but it is excruciatingly spicy! I ate only a few bites and my mouth was on fire! I get the fact that lots of people love spicy food but there are plenty of people out there that enjoy mild food. If I want my food to be incredibly spicy, I will tell you! Don't just serve me insanely spicy food if I do not ask for it. For these reasons, tamale kitchen will lose business. read more

The food here is great but the customer service and the many times they will get your order wrong brings it down to a generous two stars. If you get someone's order wrong try to take fault at it rather then throw blame at the customers. We have had the breakfast burritos here for many years but this last time was the final straw.
