On the recommendation of a local shopowner, we ate lunch at Tamara's Downtown and found it top notch. The Alaskan salmon BLT was delicious, with a large piece of succulent salmon topped with several slices of bacon, lettuce and tomatoes. Really flavorful! Same goes for the classic Caesar salad with blackened chicken. You can tell it's popular when every table is filled for lunch on a random Wednesday. Service and atmosphere were great. Husband and I went for a date night. We started with oysters Rockefeller which were great. He ordered the prime rib, with mashed potatoes and grits. Flavor was good but the prime rib was a little overcooked. I had the "fresh lump crab cakes" with mango slaw asparagus and potatoes. This was highly disappointing. The crab meat was 100% not lump meat. There was not a single piece of lump meat and honestly just looked and tasted like it came out of the can. So sad because there was so much potential. First time visiting this restaurant during my vacation. I'm so happy I did. The food and service were EXCELLENT. I ordered the Cesar salad with anchovies and the seafood risotto. I must say, the Cesar salad was the best I've had. The risotto was full of seafood and fully flavored! My cousin ordered the crab cakes; mostly delicious crab meat and very little fillers. The food was great - however , my friend and I drove 45 mins in traffic specifically for happy hour which is advertised all over their social media to run until 5:30. We were seated at 5:22 and tried to order happy hour apps only to be told that it ended at 5:15. On the menu in incredibly small print, it says last call for happy hour is 5:15. Who does that? My wife/I have been frequenting Tamara's for several years & have noticed a decline in quality of food & service over the past year; unsure of reason but a fact. Current staff are just not friendly, no greeting @ the door, wait staff just walks by w/out a word. If wait staff is not directly waiting on your specific table, you don't exist. Tamara needs to dress for success as well; she runs around in jeans & a dirty t-shirt, bad look for a supposed "fine dining" restaurant. Tamara's was our go to, but no longer. So nice to find something like duck breast on a coastal menu with perfect execution. Also had the delicious soft shell crab. Tamara's never disappoints! The Bloody Mary Bar is such a great way to start a meal. And gracious, the meals they serve! The softshell crab BLT is the best spider sandwich I've ever had. Service is amazing. Our waiter remembered us after only one visit. Of course, since we went for happy hour one night and then returned for brunch the next day, I guess we made it easy. Our wait time for a Friday night was only about 15 minutes so all in all we highly recommend. It is crowded and there is noise but the food outweighs all that. My husband had the Tamaras Chicken Breast stuffed and I had crab cakes which were delish. I'm a picky crab cake eater because some have too much filling besides crab- these did not. Tamara's WE had a very bad incident turn into a renewal in the quality and honesty of people. We had Happy Hour Friday Halloween at your restaurant with a group of six. Food was great as was the service. My wife of 55 + year noticed her wedding ring (a special gift I purchased for her at Harold's when 25 years ago) in England was not on her finger. We were sure that she forgot to put it back on after her shower. When we got home and she searched for her ring it was no where to be found. My wife was so upset! She went to bed early and was very upset the next morning. I called Tamara's and drove to the restaurant but it was closed. The next morning I drove to the restaurant before it opened. The staff was setting up and I asked if any one found a gold and diamond wedding ring . The member of staff checked the draw but no ring. She called out to staff and low and behold a voice from the bar called out that Noah found it and it was in the register at the bar. My wife was so happy! Sunday was our first night in Fairhope and many restaurants are closed on Sundays and Mondays. The reviews for Tamara's looked pretty good so we decided to give it a try. We sat at the bar which was pretty packed, luckily we snagged a couple seats. The bartenders were very busy which caused a bit of service delays. We ordered oysters 2 ways, 1/2lb of crab claws in a garlic butter sauce and BBQ shrimp. We have had BBQ shrimp in New Orleans and it was fantastic. This dish was overwhelmed by the amount of Worcestershire they used. The oysters were good and the crabs were great but pretty pricey. The guests around us were all having service issues - forgotten items and drink refills. Again, they were pretty busy so maybe that was the issue. The worst part of visiting Tamara's was the smell of our clothes once we left. The ventilation system is obviously not very good because our clothing smelled terrible. read more

Jax and karma were our bartenders, karma was very knowledgeable about the cocktails and Jax was so funny and made our experience exciting for our anniversary. I normally am not this critical. This Sunday was a perfect day weather and planet alignment wise. For everyone involved in a marriage or relationship. You just look forward to spending quality time, having great conversation, great dinner and a spontaneous evening. We chose to sit at a high topper, by the window. However, the bar tender closed the shutters because of the glare he was experiencing at the bar. Not taking into account, that was the whole point of choosing that specific table. But shiggdy happy and you move forward. Still we made the best. We had it all with the exception of a great dinner. I had the chef's special fish and my wife ordered the ribeye. The ribeye was tough. It's a ribeye steak you allow it to marinate hopefully overnight, but this wasn't edible. The server did come back and brought back out her second choice, the seafood platter. Meanwhile I continued to eat my dinner but in the process I completed my dinner before her second bite. Kudos to our waiter. He was very attentive. He was very professional and super nice. We are looking forward to returning for Sunday brunch in the near future. read more

The food was great! The service, not so much (will comment on that below). I had a lobster Benedict and gouda grits. Uh-mazing! The hollandaise sauce had capers in it that complimented the dish perfectly. The grits were great. Husband had steak and sweet potatoes fries. He was 100% pleased with his steak. And the sweet potato fries were the best I've EVER had. I had to restrain myself from stealing *all* of his fries! Absolutely delicious food! The service was another story. We were greeted by a hostess who never smiled. Odd. And to make it worse, our waitress never cracked a smile and then charged us for an extra side that we never received. Had we not caught it, she would have charged us for something she forgot to serve. It was uncomfortable! We were friendly and tried to "win her over" with kindness, which one should never have to do with a server. At one point, we needed something (extra to-die-for hollandaise sauce) and another incredibly friendly server helped us. We were so thankful she happened by. I was watching other servers to see if the they were all grumpy (as in, poor management?) and it didn't appear to be the case. Others seemed lovely, so I don't believe that reflects the management. It was Christmas Eve (lunch) and I realize that Christmas can be a difficult time for some. And maybe our hostess and server were sad for personal reasons, so I will not add their names, plus I don't publicly shame people. But if the management cares to contact me, please feel free, I do remember the server's name. All that said, the food was absolutely delicious. My wife and I enjoyed a delicious lunch today at Tamara's Downtown. This is not our first time and surely will not be our last. We were seated by the hostess that turned out to be our waitress. She was pleasant yet somewhat formal. I highly recommend the avocado fries as an appetizer; they are always spectacular. Another outstanding choice is the She Crab Soup. Amazing is an understatement. My Texas Burger was huge and cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed the Fried Green Tomatoes. All in all another outstanding trip to Tamara's. read more
