"Kids not welcome." should be a sign hung high on their door. I have never seen a waitress, apparently the owner, behave so disgusting towards children. We were a table of 8 adults and 2 young children, which we shared when making our reservation. When we arrived, there were no high chairs, which is okay, but of course can a bit difficult with two children under two. Although it was raining, we took the two little ones outside (where no one was dining) to walk around and burn some energy while waiting on our meal to be served. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful and so kind, but another woman kept glaring at our two children, rolling her eyes at them, and intentionally almost running into them when we stood up to walk outside or when they would walk close to our table to be held by another adult in our party... almost as if to prove a point. Turns out, this very unkind lady was the owner. After coming back inside to return to our table, she approached one of the mothers and spoke very rudely telling her that the children needed to stay in their chairs. Two children under two in adult chairs... the children were not being loud or disruptive, simply children who don't have the ability to sit still -- we had been there for 45 minutes at this point. A heads up that it isn't a kid-friendly environment or the lack of high chairs would've been wonderful. We would've happily chosen to spend the lots and lots of money we spent there, elsewhere. The two mothers and children left the establishment in tears due to how they were treated, not even having a bite of food ordered. We were absolutely appalled to find out that it was the owner, Daneen Buck, behaving that way -- everyone else working there was extremely kind and the other guests were so friendly with both babies. If you have children or love any child in your life, I highly advise you to spend your money elsewhere. I hate that we gave her any business at all. read more

We waited 1 1/2 hours before we received our meals! The fish special was a 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 " fried grouper" served on top 5 grilled asparagus following a small Greek salad. The grouper was good but too small for the price. No starch, no rolls. Pitiful read more

Service is always nice but tends to be slow, unless you are a regular or VIP. It took 30 minutes to get cocktails, another 30 for apps. When we got our entrees (ready to leave at this point) the steak sadly was overcooked for us both- that had not occurred on a previous visit so perhaps an off night. Love the ambience and again, the staff was nice enough, but timing and customer service is lacking- not if you are a regular. You could clearly see who was important to their team. To be honest, I've heard nothing but great things. However, I did not love Char, and probably would never return if it were up to me. I ordered a New York strip medium rare. The steak was extremely overcooked. The special that night was a steak with blue cheese. I am not a fan of blue cheese at all. My steak tasted like blue cheese, like the grill had not been wiped/cleaned before cooking a regular steak. Terrible. If I wanted blue cheese I would have ordered the special. Ordered two deserts, they only brought one. Our waiter was fine, I think the food and atmosphere could do with an improvement. We've patronized Char 32 on three occasions over the last 12 months. Each time we've had great service and good food. The crab claw appetizer is absolutely the best thing I've tried on the menu. The steaks are always good, but not any better than I make at home. The other dishes are also well prepared and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is also acceptable. For two adults our bill is usually around $250, which keeps me from going more often. I don't think you'll ever get anything that taste poorly, you just might not be blown away by anything spectacular. Parking is abundant. They are a solid bet for a decent steak- give them a try! read more

The only thing disappointing to me was the wine list was average as far as wine options by the glass and bottle.Lots of things listed but really a lot of just average wines that have seen better days. If your steak house could showcase a great wine list with imports from around the world, and offer better wines from USA, I would give you Five Stars. Problem is they brought bread 20 min after arriving and right before entree was delivered. Steak was okay. Problem we had was with service. We sat for 15 min twice without wine being refilled. Came here with my brother because we wanted steak. Char did not disappoint. We did the Butchers Block Filet and it was perfectly cooked. The salads were good and the Creamed Spinach was probably the best I have ever had. Service was very good and the ambiance was relaxing. The only complaint I had was the liquor selection. Friends and neighbors told us they loved Char 32. We finally got a chance to go and were amazed by the entire experience. Beautiful, quiet setting, yet not stuffy. Very attentive staff, service at exactly the right pace. Our server was there when we needed something and not there when we didn't. Husband and I both had ribeyes. They were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I had the fries which were some of the best I've ever had, crispy, tender, and flavorful. The salad was crisp, fresh, and the house made green goddess dressing was herby and slightly tart. Bread was hot and the butter soft. The drinks were very well prepared and served without delay. We shared creme brûlée that was excellent. We will be back again and often. What a hidden gem!!! read more

The owner of this place is awful. We were there for dinner and someone ordered a steak medium. It came well done. She regretfully took the steak back and brought another one which was raw. She then made a comment "the first one was good enough". With the very limited menu they should learn to cook steaks and take some classes in customer service. read more

I went with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day and was disappointed to find that none of the staff were wearing masks- servers, bartenders, hostesses- no one. It is mandated in the state of Alabama currently and it definitely made me feel uneasy that the business was disregarding state guidelines. The service was alright, but my boyfriend's steak was overdone and a little cold. His food was supposed to come with bread and it didn't but when we asked the waitress about it she said "we didn't request any" so that's why we didn't get any-- even though it was supposed to come with his food. A fabulous dining experience! Food all tasty ( although the spinach was bland and dried out). My only concern was we had reservations for 6 people and a few hours before wanted to add one more ( I was thinking a chair to the existing table) I called and left a message to that effect. I got a call back from a young lady that told me (her exact words) they were booked solid and could not accommodate us. I frantically looked for somewhere else to go, but someone in my party said to just show up and see what happens. I'm so glad we did, they just added a chair and all was well. I just think management should know that they almost lost a table of a few or more hundred dollars because of that indiscretion. We'll be back! read more

Char 32 has a very lovely Venue but I have been twice and both times the service was some of the worst I've ever had. There were only 2 other customers there when we arrived and we waited 1 1/2 hours before we received our food. We placed our order and then 30 minutes later they came and told us there weren't anymore scallops. We waited another hour and finally asked if there was a problem. They finally brought our food and it was cold. They have such potential and such a lovely venue that I hope they can improve there service in the future. read more

My husband and I have not had a better meal than we had at Char last night. The service was amazing first start to finish and the food was truly unbelievable. We were so impressed with our first experience last night! New Years Eve is usually a challenge for any restaurant, but not here.
