Wow. Where to start? We came with a larger group to celebrate our work. Many of my teammates recommended this place. Service was awesome and impeccable (I really don't use this word, to be honest). We were ordering a la carte, and some mistakes were made, but they addressed them with urgency. Perspective: We ordered many appetizers, and there was some confusion, but it was quickly addressed. The staff was quick, professional, and thorough. Food. What did we not eat? We had everything, and I am not an expert, but I took many pictures. Chicken Lollipops will slay any wings you can order. Boneless chicken (called something else) was phenomenal and spicy. Please note that I am not trying to Americanize everything but to give you an example of what it is like. We tried various dosas, some of which were like filled crepes and some like thicker pancakes. I had a goat-filled dosa and a chicken Marsala dosa that was like a pancake. You need to soak it in the sauces for enjoyment. Drinks: They have Indian beers, a full bar, and cocktails. You will see Thumbs Up, which is a rum and coke. Overall, we had an awesome time, and you should check it out. If you are confused or have questions, ask the staff. They will help you and ensure you are comfortable with what you ordered. read more

This place used to have the best buffets and lunch thalis. It never had any ambiance, but a wide range of fresh veg and non-veg dishes, and I looked forward to stopping for lunch when passing through the area. Gave them another try yesterday on a whim when I was near Greentree and found the quality of the food has slipped a lot. The buffet still had a wide range of foods that you won't find on the average buffet, but very little quite reached the level of "good." I enjoyed the samosa chat and goat curry, but the sambar was flavorless and the chai undrinkable. read more

I am obsessed! First real indian food experience and sort of bummed no longer buffet I heard they used to have. I tried the chicken tikala and omg the flavor and how filling! Incredible having the sauce to dip the onion naan in! The price is perfectly reasonable for the taste and flavor. Service is great and welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. Only negative is not open til 5pm! Easy parking free for the full strip of stores. l can't wait to come back and feel like I missed out on life with no indian food before! read more

We are from Cleveland and were looking for a South Indian restaurant . And this place was a great pick . We had the buffet . The chicken biryani , ginger chicken and chicken curry was awesome . The delicacies like Malabar fish curry , shrimp gravy and crab masala was awesome . I am very very particular about fish curry . I won't jeopardize the love for it by trying it every where because i fear i may forget the love for it because of anh traumatic experience . Upon arrival for dinner on a weekday we were seated immediately. Service was quick and attentive to our table of 6's needs. We had a family-style dinner with multiple dishes and everything came out hot and fresh. I was a huge fan of the different flavors and types of traditional Indian dishes. The atmosphere was lovely with decor and music. The prices were reasonable. The service was quick. For the meal we had ordered a 1 heat on a 1-10 scale and it was almost too hot to eat. I would recommend ordering 0 if you do not like spices. However, everything had great flavor and they weren't overtaken by spice. We had lamb, paneer tikala masala, and other ranges of dishes. Everything was authentic and tasty. My favorite dish was the Garlic Naan dipped in the Paneer tikala masala. If I am in the area again I would come back for food. read more

Came here for some authentic Indian food with friends and ordered a few different entrées to try. We were pleasantly surprised at the flavors and spices. We got mild for spice level and the lamb was a little spicy but very tasty. The chicken Marcella was a little bit different from other places it had a slight sweet flavor in their sauce/ curry. The nun was delicious we tried the non-basket so it had a few different flavors. The eggplant was definitely my favorite. Worth a visit. Service was a little slow but food was good. read more

I've ordered Tamarind takeout twice now, purely off of the recommendation from my brother. He lives close to the restaurant and raves about their chicken tikka masala and lunch buffet. I'm not sure if they started the buffet back up again, but in the meantime he has enjoyed takeout. We decided to order takeout the other night since I was at his house. We placed the order through Doordash since my brother had a 50% off coupon if you did pick up. We placed an order for 2 garlic naans, 1 samosa chaat, 2 chicken tikka masalas (for him and his girlfriend) and then baingan bharta for me. The first time I went, I ordered the baingan bharta (eggplant dish) and it was soooooo hot. I love this dish and have ordered it at different restaurants, but this was too spicy for me. I gave it another shot and put "mild spice please!" in the notes. We picked up the order about 45 minutes later and the food was scalding hot. The restaurant was empty and there was no music playing. It would have been awkward to eat in the restaurant. Once we got back to his house we opened the naan. It was SO good and very garlicky. I loved it. My eggplant dish was the same spice level as the first time I got it. Way too hot again. I ate some of it with the rice, but my nose was running and I was sweating! I won't order it again because of my spice preference. My brother and his girlfriend loved the chicken tikka masala as always. The samosa chaat was very soggy and didn't taste fresh. It was okay and had a good flavor, but I wouldn't order it again. It seems like they do a great takeout business. Next time I will try a different vegetarian dish. read more

This place has been a staple for us since we've lived in the Pittsburgh area. The Indian food is authentic and delicious. Tamarind was one of our favorite takeout places during the pandemic. This is a great location with plenty of parking. The restaurant is clean and the service is good. To the food, this is where Tamarind shines. On this night we went with some standards. Of course we got samosas. The Tandoori Chicken was juicy and very flavorful. It came out on a steaming plate. For the creamy dishes, we had the Butter Chicken and the Mutter Paneer (peas and cheese). Perfection! And don't skip the Garlic Naan, it puts garlic bread to shame. We are so glad that this kind of quality Indian food is in our neighborhood. Well worth it! read more

Yusuf, our server, was great. I say this first, because half the experience of a restaurant is due to the people who greet you first. Food was tasty.,i ordered a Chole Bhaturey. Yumm! I eat that dish almost everywhere, but this restaurant's Bhatura was so flaky and soft, airy. Other dishes we ordered were bisibela Bhath, and Curd rice. Dessert was Kulfi and carrot halwa. Great flavors. Good price. This was my inaugural trip to Tamarind and I will look forward to exploring their menu more. Please note that we ordered takeout. The Good: - Chicken Tikka Masala: I split the chicken tikka masala with my wife and we both agreed it was fantastic. In my experience CTM is often seen as that accessible toned-down version of the Indian food, but this was absolutely bursting with flavor. Tamarind gave a nice sized portion with an equally nice sized portion of rice. I would get this again for sure. - Vegetable Samosas - Crispy on the outside, fluffy and flavorful on the inside - these were fantastic. (Two come in an order and they are quite large). - Garlic Naan - A lot of places say "garlic naan" and it has almost no garlic flavor. This was NOT so at Tamarind. The naan was so tasty with a strong, but not overpowering, garlic flavor. The Not-So-Good: - Paneer Pakora - I am used to pakoras being more crispy, but these were just kinda mushy. This featured strips of paneer cheese in a thick doughy breading and friend. I wouldn't get this again. Again, I would order from Tamarind again. Their menu is gigantic and the prices are very reasonable. I would also note that the employees I picked up the order from were very kind and polite - I arrived early and had to wait for my order and they offered me a beverage several times as I waited. read more

Ambiance is relaxed and the server was friendly. Food is fantastic it is not greasy at all. I think it is fresh and delicious and really great balance of spice and flavor. This is an Indian restaurant I would highly recommend we ordered several dishes and they were all great. read more

The best Indian food in Pennsylvania by far. I have been all over the state and this is the best I have found. The lamb saag is so tender and juicy. The chenna masala is so balanced and delicious. The garlic naan is just like home. The atmosphere is lovely! Fun music, full liquor available, and the bathrooms are very clean. Go to Tamarind in Greentree, your belly will thank you! read more

We tried Medu Vada, chicken 65 and Idli recently from this place. The one additional star is for the Medu Vada here. I absolutely loved it and would try again. Medu vadas basically are the savory donuts made of black gram and rice batter, deep fried. It was a little bit oily, but very tasty and crispy. I also have tried aloo bonda from this place which are ok. Overall snack servings at this restaurant are good. Chicken 65 was so so,won't stand up to the near by competitions at other Indian restaurants. read more

Ok, I was very excited to check out Tamarind! The outside of this restaurant is a little strange. It's located in a plaza, but the outer windows are pretty much blacked out - couldn't tell if the restaurant was open from the outside. We were seated right away, and it was pretty busy for a Wednesday evening. Our server was attentive at first, grabbed our drinks.. but then totally forgot about us for the rest of the evening! We weren't in a hurry so it was no big deal, but was almost funny towards the end "Did she forget about us or what?" However, another employee (I'm assuming he was the manager) was EXTREMELY FRIENDLY, and got us beverages, cleaned plates, etc. The wine selection was TINY! Large selection of bottled wine, but per glass was very limited. I ordered the Cabernet and I wasn't too happy with it. Wasn't high quality and I thought it was a relatively small glass for $6.99. The food took a while to come out - but it was good! Very high quality, not huge portions. Great flavor, great spice as well. Would I recommend tamarind, yes - sure. However, I wouldn't say to come here if you were in any type of hurry. I look forward to checking out their weekend buffet - but I'm sure I will be checking out other similar restaurants before coming back here any time soon. read more

Really really friendly!! For some reason there is a social awkwardness between Indians and African-Americans at times even an air of disdain. Not here everyone working was amicable. The price wasn't that bad and I wouldn't care if it was pricey. because of the top notch service. Ordered the Lamb Vindaloo it was a party in my mouth as was the Butter Chicken. Incredibly wonderful food and service! We started with the Idly appetizer and my husband couldn't stop raving about the flavor and lightness of the little rice "pancakes" with delicious chutneys. My father-in-law had the Aloo Gobi Masala, and for an 89 yr old Italian American guy, he cleaned up his plate! My husband had Chicken Khadaj, I had Chicken Tikka Masala, and they were an absolutely perfect blend of spices with super tender pieces of savory chicken. Their Onion Naan was very delicate and the Sweet Lassi just the perfect balance of sweetness. Our waiter John was kind, attentive, and diligent! We can't wait to go back and try other dishes, especially now that they will have their buffet back on Saturdays and Sundays!!!!! read more

Food and service was very good. The only thing I was concerned about was the lack of toilet paper and soap for washing hands in the men's restroom. I have been here several times and always enjoyed the meals and service, but in this day and age, it is very concerning that there were no basic supplies in the men's room. Even more so that I only have seen men working there, and I assume they also use the same bathroom. Not sure if I will be back after seeing this. When you park your car, the aroma outside the restaurant is filled with savory spices and you know you're in for a good meal! Stopping through town we were here on a Wednesday and was surprised how busy it was. Food and service was quick, waters were always refilled. Spent less than 30 dollars for two big meals. We tried the pepper fry with chicken and the chicken chettinadu. Both were VERY spicy and flavorful. If you wanted extra spice, eat the peppers that are in the sauce. I stopped by here this past Saturday night with my wife for dinner. I had never been to Tamarind Savouring India before but my wife had and we were in the mood for some Indian food. Since Tamarind was in the Entertainment book that's where we headed. It's located in a strip mall right off of Greentree road. While the outside makes it look somewhat small the inside is actually pretty large. It is painted in vivid and warm colors like orange and yellow and has some Indian artwork on the walls. My wife and I ended up getting seated at one of the booths. For dinner on this occasion I went with the chicken chettinadu (spicy curry cooked with coconut milk and traditional South Indian Grounded Marsala - spice level 9) while my wife went with the chicken tikki masala. Then since we were both hungry I ordered the green chile and cheese naan while my wife ordered the garlic naan. Whenever it came out everything looked fantastic with my chettinadu being a greenish colored sauce with lots of chile peppers showing while my wife's entree was in an orangish colored sauce. Not only did my dish look good but it tasted good too! There were layers of spices which all helped to form a nice depth of flavor. It was also very spicy but not overly so which was perfect for me. As for my naan, well it was pretty fantastic. It was almost like eating a flavorful grilled cheese flatbread. The green chiles added a little spice while the cheese was flavorful, ooey and gooey and the naan itself was good. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I both had a hankering for Indian food and Tamarind certainly hit the spot for both of us. read more

This is the first time I've been here, food is delicious. Buffet style and you can try all kinds of yummy food. The baby corn Manchurian was bomb, so was the tomato daal. So I recently moved from WI to PA on a new job so its been a while since my last review (I promise more coming soon)!! Alright with my first for Pittsburgh and we go with Tamarind coz I LOVEEE Buffets! Décor : Tamarind has a Non offensive, borderline plain jane pastels of color all through and through and that works perfectly fine for a casual family dining joint. Service : For a Weekend Buffet, Id say service was on par with what one would expect to be efficient. Plates were removed timely, requests were tended to timely, service with a smile at times so all good :) Food : So, If you're looking for variety and options galore, this aint it so lets get that out of the way right now! Having said that, what they do have on offer is all rather tasty! The spices range from Mild-Medium so cater to a larger audience. Food was well seasoned and you could feel a sense of authenticity towards it. Oh did I mention they have Mango Juice (Kinda like the Canned one) and Unlimited Plain Dosas as part of the Buffet, Nice! One big bummer though, was that most of the food was Cold coz it just kept sitting there. Value : For roughly $12 pp, the overall experience was a good one and I can recommend it! read more

Amazing food, I highly recommend the Indian buffet on Saturdays and Sundays noon to 3 PM. I was shocked at how good it is.

I believe they're (yet again) under new ownership but the food was good and we were impressed. We would order again. They should put more meat into their curries though and should cut up their chicken for their bone in biryani instead of just giving a leg. read more

I placed an order for pick up at 4:34, upon arriving they told me that they didn't have my order. I explained that I placed my order over 30 minutes ago. I also explained that I needed my food quickly because I had to be at work, the man working told me that it would be quick. Then made me wait OVER 30 minutes to get my food. After asking many times how long it would take he refused to give me a straight answer and ultimately made me late for work. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

This is my second time ordering from here. The first time was wonderful. Short wait to pick up my food. I wasn't too impressed with the butter chicken, maybe because it was my first time trying Indian food. This time I got lamb tikka masala ordered it mild. I could only eat 2 pieces of the meat. It was delicious but way too hot. It took over an hour to be waited on to get the takeout food. There was only one person doing tables, answering the phone and dealing with take out orders.
