    Mango sticky rice

I have been coming in for 15 years and I am never disappointed. Today after spicy green curry with chicken m, I finished it off with a deliciously fresh mango sticky rice! Come and support this beautiful family.

Family owned restaurant. This place has always been delicious each time we've been. Food is always fresh. We've eaten here about 3 times now and each time has not disappointed. Will return again!

    58. Pad See Eew - no spice

Great hole in the wall spot. I've been coming here for years, but today they really surprised me. I called in my order for larb with pork and pad see eew with beef. They didn't ask for spice level on anything I ordered so I assumed it was going to be made as listed on the website. The pad see eew was covered in red chili sauce (see photo) which made it SPICY. I've never had pad see eew served this way either here or at another Thai restaurant and was shocked to receive this in my to-go order. On the website it is listed as "#58. Pad See Eew. White rice noodle pan fried with Chinese broccoli, eggs, black soy sauce." There is no mention of red chili sauce and the person who was going to eat it can't take spicy food. I called the restaurant once I received the order and they said that's how they normally prepare it. The chili sauce is standard. I explained to them that it was not listed on the website and no one asked me spice level when I called in my order, so I expected it not to be spicy. They offered to make another without spice (see other photo) for me at no cost. While it was not what I expected initially, I appreciate that they rectified the situation swiftly. They remade the pad see eew for immediate pickup even though the kitchen was closing. I appreciate their service and their food is always good with good portions for the price. Highly recommend. Just make sure if you don't want your pad see eew spicy, you tell them up front.

I think this is my favorite Thai spot in Oakland. The fresh spring rolls were great, fresh light, delicious. I enjoyed both sauces they came with. They had a little bit of mint in them and it was fantastic. Chicken pad Thai extra spicy had a good bit of a kick too it. It was not overly sweet. Leaned a bit more into the sour. Only down side wasn't it didn't have a good wok smokey flavor. The tofu in it was awesome. Service was excellent. Will be back, and will bring friends. Thank you for a great meal.

Unassuming but charming place. Generally very quiet with Thai-themed designs. Food is solid. My Pad Kee Mao (with shrimp) was excellent. I asked for "relatively mild" and it was still quite spicy. I loved it but will ask for even less spicy next time.

Went to chao thai today with my son for an early lunch we sat outside since it was a nice day .I got the beef pad Thai and the mango sticky rice and my son got the fried rice and added chicken for Extra cost the service was good when we got there it was only us . The pad Thai was good I'll get it again next time my son seems to enjoy it more than his fried rice the water the nice lady gave us tasted off like soap and lemons other then that everything was okay:

We ordered tom yummy soup, crab fried rice, fresh spring rolls, and mango sticky rice. Everything was ok. My thai tea was more milk and sugar than tea and it was extremely sweet. The crab fried rice was delicious but a little too heavy on the garlic, every bite felt like it was overpowering the crab fried rice taste. We took one bite of the mango sticky rice and it was overly sweet, but good. The service was good, it's a small place so the waitress is able to see or hear you if you need anything. The ambiance is nice and because it's so small you can hear everyone's conversation even with everyone talking low. They should probably turn some music on to help.

The restaurant is just lovely, and in a great location. The service was excellent, everyone is very friendly. I've been to this spot before and usually enjoy the food, but this time it was just okay. The Satay Chicken was good, the Thai Iced Tea was great but the Pad Thai was lacking in flavor. I didn't enjoy it at all. I'm not opposed to returning, like I said I went here years ago and loved it. Maybe next time will be better.

I've tried this place twice and I have no complaints!! Food is super good yeah but I'm always greeted by the nicest person too! It feels welcoming and cozy when you walk in. I really recommend! I get the pad Thai and pad se ew (:

Pad Thai lunch special combo and a Singha
    Marco C.

Chao Thai offers a fairly standard, if extensive, Thai menu, with a good supply of indoor seating and outdoor seating that is far enough removed from Grand & Lake streets that only the occasional crazy wanders in. Good lunch specials, although they are perhaps overly restrictive about changes on the lunch combos- I asked for a #3 (chicken pad Thai) with tofu instead of chicken and my request was denied, she said I could only order that ala carte. So I had the chicken of Thai. Maybe not the best Thai food in the area, I give it 3 1/2 stars, rounding up for good service and the outdoor seating option.

We all split all the specialty cocktails and I got the Khao Pad Kang Kiew (rice with eggplant and chicken topped with a fried egg). Dishes are $20-23 ish each. We were seated at the 6 person table in the back of the restaurant near the bathroom. My favorite drinks were their take on a hard thai iced tea, the lavender mojito, a take on an espresso martini. There was also this spicy drink that had thai chilis in it that is VERY spicy lol. Pros: - the rice dish was DELICIOUS and also huge haha. Came with cucumbers to cut the peppery flavor if needed. - All the cocktails were pretty different and it was fun to try all of them. They were all beautiful to look at and tasty (lots of coconut and Thai inspiration). - Service was pretty good - Has "typical" thai dishes like pad thai and pad see ew, and also more rare ones that are hard to find - Close to many bars and other establishments, so perfect if you want to eat here as a first, second, or third location of your outing haha Cons: - The air flow in the back wasn't amazing so I did feel like it got stuffy/hot - Parking can be tough in this area so I recommend BARTing Another reason to love Oakland!

Unfortunately it was too spicy for my liking and some of the white rice was burnt from the being at the bottom of the pot. There was only 8 eggplant pieces in the entire dish and surprisingly a lot more chicken. So depending on your preference this may be a good thing! I was really craving the sweet, earthy flavor of eggplant so while lots of protein was greatly appreciated I did wish there was more eggplant in the dish. Either way it was a good portion of food so they don't skimp here for sure! The service was friendly and super attentive the moment you walk in. I'd be willing to try another non spicy dish here.

They do an amazing job offering more unique Laotian dishes alongside classic Thai favorites. Some personal standouts are the kor moo yang (grilled pork jowl), grilled beef short rib, mok pa (steamed catfish), and the Lao-style papaya salad -- which is perfectly spicy and packed with flavor. Portions are generous and incredibly filling, and everything is so flavorful and delicious. Even when ordered for delivery, the food arrives fresh and holds up beautifully. But it was not full throughout the time we were at the restaurants. Experience: Food came out pretty fast and it was hot(!). Overall, service was good and they checked in on us a few times to make sure all is good. Food: - Nam Khao was fantastic. Crispy rice, the mixed minced vegetables, and the cooked sausage. Together with the lime that you can squeeze to preference, it was delicious! Haven't had Nam Khao this delicious in a while! - Pad See Ew with pork was alright. It was cooked well and a little on the sweeter side rather than savory, but missing the smoky flavor "wok hei" that would take this to the next level that I love. - Fried Sweet Fish was alright too. Fish is fried with a very thin batter but it had black pepper which my kids doesn't want as they're sensitive to anything spicy. The fish had a light fishy taste to it (fresh water fish) which would be better if they even use a little ginger to cut the fishy taste for a better taste. - Guay Tiew is very similar to Pad See Ew with the exception that it had a fried egg on the top and had seafood (shrimp and squid). - Vientiane Crispy Roll is different from regular egg rolls. Made with rice paper roll so it was crispy but also chewy, which is different and may not be what everyone is used to. Will return to try out other dishes.

I missed photos of the main entrees enjoying our time and honestly not sure what we ordered as we paid with a kiosk and didn't get a printed receipt even thought I typed in my email.. so that's frustrating with technology. If you want a receipt have it printed before you leave. My friend had a spicy eggplant dish and I had a tofu dish with rice and no fish sauce. Wish I could be more descriptive but can't say without an itemized receipt.. doesn't matter though, was all amazing flavors for both my friend (who travels and has worldly palette, and my self with a broad pallet only within the US) Flavors were amazing and service was on par. I did have an issue at first with the first server saying Pad Thai could be done with tofu and no fish sauce so I was excited, but then the next server said it was already mixed and not able to accommodate, but did find me an alternative I found flavorful with veggies, though missed having the peanuts in my dish. I had Pad See You instead without meat or fish sauce. Service overall was wonderful, attentive and didn't have to wait for anything. They did close and allowed us to stay on the patio visiting long after. Would be happy to return again.. I didn't ask about validating my parking and then they closed, so that was a bummer but my bad.. do check when you arrive and see if they can validate to help with a hefty parking cost $20 for us but hung out longer than most..

This is our go-to Restaurant, this year for Thanksgiving & Christmas both. Friends who joined us were impressed with the food & were very interested to know the name & location of this restaurant. Now my In-Laws like to order Take Out more often, and they always want to order Thai food! It used to be they wanted Indian food, which we love but truly had not found satisfactory in the past. I'm so glad because Thai Taste Kitchen doesn't disappoint! They have been impeccable about marking the containers & even packaging meat vs vegetarian items in separate bags, and they allow specifics like "no shrimp paste" or whatever, more of "this" or none of "that". White Rice included free with entrees thst are not noodle or rice based, and if you prefer individual instead of family style, you can add an appetizer to each entree individually for about $5-$6, which is about the same as splitting an appetizer order in half, but sometimes people prefer a different appetizer. I like to avoid fried foods, for example, but others love egg rolls or fried chicken (was that an appetizer or an entree?) Thai Iced Tea comes in one size only, and it's small, but consider the calories. This is probably best in small size & I was thoroughly satisfied, I had not indulged for many, many years and it was so delicious. If possible, get it with no ice so it doesn't melt on the way to your destination, you can add your own ice once you get there. Tbh, I started drinking it immediately & finished it in about 10 min, since my husband was driving. Treat yourselves & I think you'll be really glad you found this place. One caveat, they are short staffed so keep that in mind if you eat in the restaurant, I believe only one person is serving tables and may also handle the register, so it may require patience. The beauty of Take Out is we can set out a buffet, everyone grabs a plate & chooses ehat they like, and we can reheat warm items in the microwave in about a minute, and it tastes it's best hot.
