Oh Tampico! What must I do to get more people in your door? I have lived in the College Park/Laurel are now for almost 7 years and only recently did a friend tell me about the wonders of you. He said "you must go....I will even take you" Look, I am going to be honest with you. I have an allergy to something that is found in the juices of onions and peppers... But I do not have to worry once ounce about that cause you make everything fresh and to order. No pre-made, No reheat. I have not been in the back kitchen but I am sure that even the chips are home-made. (How to you get them so good?) I have tried a few items and everything has been super delicious. But I have to say I am obsessed (OBSESSED) with your sampler appetizer platter. You get wings (heavenly and juicy), you get taquitos filled with deliciousness, slices of incredibly juicy chicken in a melted cheese extravaganza of a quesadilla, and then when you think they cannot do anything else they make these steak nachos... but they are bite size. I think my wife, born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, would eat every meal here if she could. These guys are the real deal. She picks from six or seven menu items she loves; my go-to is the chicken burrito with mole sauce. Great salsa too! We love it. read more

Very delicious and flavorful. I can't get enough of the rice that comes with the burritos, and the ingredients such as in the quesadillas are fresh and yummy. The only thing is that sometimes the steak is a little underdone, but it doesn't happen all the time. This is a review of carry out only. My husband and I ordered take out from here on a Friday night. The pricing was reasonable and the portions were a good size. Aside from that it was a waste of money......the food was bland and dry. I couldn't distinguish any of the sauces from one another. I cannot believe that as king as I have lived in Laurel that yestewrday was my first time eating at Tampico Grill. The food was so good. I ordered El Presidente and the chips and queso. The chips were fresh and crispy and the queso was some of the best queso that I have ever tasted and I mean EVER! I devoured the chips and queso and I truly enjoyed the El Presidente. The food was great and I intend on becoming a frequent flyer at Tampico Grill. I highly recommend and I am so glad that a few friends convinced me to try Tampico Grill. YUMMY!!!! read more

This place may not be much to look at (it kind of resembles an old photo hut?) but they have FANTASTIC Mexican cuisine! The staff is very friendly and attentive with limitless chips and salsa and refills of beverages. Every time I have come here, I have ordered something different and I've never been disappointed. The food is not at all greasy as some Mexican fare tends to be and they have a menu of sauces to choose from to top off your entree - all very good! The prices here are a bargain too. Yesterday was my first time trying Tampico Grill after passing it a gazillion times. The service was nothing special but quick and straight to the point. For this style of restaurant I didn't expect much in regards to service and got just that. As for the food, I ordered the Enchiladas with chipotle sauce and my wife ordered the enchiladas with mole sauce. Both dishes included cube chicken stuffed in a tortilla topped with cheese and sauce. The tortilla must have been cooked a little too hard or broiled for one second too many, because it was hard and slightly chewy. The flavor of the sauces were decent but overall the enchiladas left a lot to be desired. For Mexican food, I would probably try another restaurant but don't plan on returning to Tampico Grill anytime soon! read more

We went as a work group for lunch on 7/24/2012. Service: 3/5 - standard service, the few employees had sat a lot of people, even though the place wasn't at capacity I don't think they anticipated a big lunch crowd. Our food order was accurate and service was friendly if not very fast. Ambiance: 2/5 - I didn't feel a Mexican theme, or any theme other than budget restaurant decor. Whatever, I don't really go to a place for decor. Food: -1/5 - Yes that is negative 1. Seriously, people go here for the food? They must have a different menu for locals or something because everything any of us ordered came out looking like over-cooked T.V. dinners. The taste was only marginally better than the appearance. Overall: 1/5 - Maybe our experience was one off and they had sat more people than they had the kitchen staffed to serve. Regardless, we won't be going back. read more

They really need to do a better job with their vegetarian options. They aren't very many to begin with! The chips they give you have almost a pound of grease dripping off them. It's really gross. Not at all what I expected! Heard good things but couldn't get past the dated decor to try it before but tonight the chips were down and I went for it! For me, Tex Mex is basically all the same but in perusing the menu I noticed a dish (yes it had a picture) that I was not familiar with, Shrimp Agave. Wow! Huge flavor and fresh tasting! Tequila lime sauce from what I remember. Kicking myself for not taking a pic myself so you'll have to take my word for it-you want this! Excellent salsa even with the huge chunks of onion, which we fished around and left behind. They may need to clean their ice machine, though, the water tasted a little moldy. Maybe drink a Dos Equis instead! Wine was decently priced at $4 a glass. A nice neighborhood restaurant. I will be back! read more

My family and I have been patrons of this restaurant since it opened. It is owned by two brothers who are very friendly. The food is the best Tex-Mex I have ever had. Prices are amazing. You get a lot of food for your money. I have never been disappointment with anything we have ordered. You can dine in or carry out. Don't let the outside of the building sway you not to go in. I live the salmon tacos. You get two tacos with black beans and rice and few taco toppings on the side. The dressing is perfect and is a must. It's a pretty quiet atmosphere and rarely ever too busy to get a seat. The service is great and the staff is very friendly. A good hidden gem for some good Mexican meals. I was swayed by the good reviews here, but as soon as I walked in the place, I knew what I was in for. The chips were stale, the salsa bland. I ordered a bunch of things a la carte to get a feel for the place. I have to admit I liked the guacamole, very fresh. The hard shell taco was not bad, but not good either. The chile relleno was inedible (literally). The enchilada was hard from overcooking, and it came with the world's worst mole sauce. Half my food (including all of the chile relleno) was on my plate when I left. If you want decent Tex-Mex, go to the R&R Taqueria up the road, or Azul 17 in Columbia. read more

Not much better than a taco bell and certainly not any cleaner. The inside had a funky sort of moldy smell and the meat was very dried-out in the tacos. Favorite Tex-mex food around. I heard about this place when I was in High School. One of my classmates his parents owned the place. My mom loves is and first took me there a few years ago. Its so good always. The beef you usually would think would be ground beef but no its steak and the meat is always grilled soo good. All previous reviews mention the slow staff- well... no contradiction here. Very slow although to their defense there was a large party (about 20) in the restaurant. I found Lucy very nice and honest about what was really good on the menu. I decided on beef enchiladas and a chile relleno on the side. My friends ordered seafood enchiladas and chile relleno combination platter. The fresh chips and salsa set the stage for a meal that created silence save for the clink of forks hitting plates. It was great. I ordered the Tampico margarita in a salt-rimmed glass and it was exactly what it should've been. My friends finished their mango margaritas in half the time so either they were great or there's going to be a need for an intervention in the near future. Ordered steak tacos al pastor. Delicious!!! Called my order in for pick up on a Friday night and it was ready for pick within ten minutes. Came with two tacos (flour), pinto beans, yellow rice, lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream. Service was equally as quick when I arrived to pick up my food. First timers; we stopped in for a late Sunday lunch. We were quickly seated and the waiter was attentitive. Chips were fresh, the salsa excellent, and the guacamole tasty. I had a beef burrito stuffed with grilled steak which seemed to be cooked on a wood fire. My wife ordered "El Presidente", a combo that included a superbly authentic tamale. Filthy place. We stopped here after reading good reviews about the food. Someone mentioned that you have to get past the dirty menus, but we were unable to do so. Sat down to a dirty table and some chips and salsa. Neither was very good. The chips were thick and bland. Salsa a slightly weird tang to it. Went to ladies room and son to men's rom. The 50+ year old cheap doors of bathroom were full of caked on black filth from people's hands touching it. Literally never cleaned. The food on people's plates did not look especially appealing and we all wondered if we would get sick from just touching the menus. Our foresome was out before ordering.
