Tan May is the best Chinese takeout in the area. My family has been ordering from them since I was a kid and they are always consistent in the quality of food and speed of delivery. The pork fried dumplings, lo mein, chicken/beef and broccoli, and the soups come out very good every single time. Tan May Chinese Restaurant sits in the Shop Rite center just off Pennington Road in Ewing, NJ. While primarily a take out joint, there are six tables for sitting in, and for the owner's kids to hang out on during summer vacation. Nice to see the family together. My lunch special was actually better than expected. The egg Foo Young was made with fresh ingredients and the ubiquitous brown sauce lighter and more flavorful than in most chop shops. Even the fried rice, though that prefab yellow cast, was at least tender and full of finely cut veggies. Prices were ridiculously low (under $7), and there was a choice of soup, egg roll or bottled drink included. No extra charge for my Snapple. While the place could be cleaner, and the mess in the hallway leading to the restroom organized and stored out of sight, the food makes it worthy of regular, if infrequent, visits. read more

This is so odd to review a Chinese Restaurant, BUT I had some seriously terrible experiences with finding a decent spot in the area. Most of them were either really dirty or served food that was excessively greasy (not yummy greasy). So by a pour sprinkle of luck, as I finished my shopping at Shoprite, I ended up at Tan's. Inside it looks like your typical Chinese restaurant, but the food is amazing and delicious. They have the perfect Chicken Tso, crunchy and saucy, with a little kick. The crab rangoons are nice and crispy. BEST OF ALL, they have this cheese steak egg roll, that is sooo good. I'm sure these were mainly created for stoner college kids from nearby, but if your just a sober fatty like me, you will love them too. I'm taking away a star because I would love for their rice to have a bit more flavor or more veggies. Also, I once ordered for delivery (which will cost you an additional $1), but when I decided to come pick it up instead they gave me a $1 refund! I really appreciated the honestly. The food is always delicious and arrives on time. Typically I will order a chicken combo platter with white rice and the egg roll. The egg rolls are always fresh and steaming. I will also order crab rangoon and it is always delicious. Their egg drop soup is warm, comforting, and not too salty. I definitely recommend for the best Chinese food in the area. read more

It took Tan May 2.5 hrs to deliver very mediocre Chinese food to my home last night. That was after I called three seperate times to find out where my delivery was. Their website says they deliver in 30-45 minutes -- do not believe them! Every time that I phoned, the woman on the phone would lie to me... "oh, I just got the order at 6:30, well 6:40 really" (I had placed it at 6pm online) "but I will make it super fast and have my driver deliver to you first." At 7:30 I called and asked again where is my order. "Oh, the driver's car broke down just as he was delivering to your house. But we will send another driver right away." At 8:30 my order finally arrived. I would have cancelled the order, of course, but I had prepaid by credit card online when I placed the order. I cannot stand business people who lie. Small Chinese take out in Ewing township. My opinion the best in Ewing plus Trenton. Their hot n sour soup is excellent. Chicken Lo main, sesame chicken n general Tsao chicken is good as well. It is worth to try. read more

Awful service and the food, although tasted ok (not great, but edible) did not come with the items stated on the menu, delivery took over an hour and a half. When I called to find out the status I was told the first time that it should be there any minute, a half hour later I was put on hold for 5 minutes. Yikes...um...its a Chinese food joint...in a strip mall...next to a ShopRite...and one bite of their food and that reality comes shining through. We ordered vegetable lo mein, spring rolls, a roasted pork egg roll, vegetable egg fu young, and dumplings. Everything tasted like old oil. No zip, no spice, no sweetness or saltiness. Just...there. Veggies in everything were pale. Dumplings were gummy. Egg fu young was burnt and tasted like grease and therefore hit the trash almost immediately. Just not worth it. That and the staff at pickup were pretty crabby and ungrateful for the business. Don't bother. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had. How can you mess up Sweet & Sour chicken? It was so greasy and disgusting and was hard. Just your average Chinese food place. I ordered delivery through a third party on grub hub. Food estimate was 50 minutes and it came in 25 minutes instead. Prices were reasonable and food was hot and fresh. Pork fried rice was excellent but Chicken with Broccoli had a different taste. Not awful, I ate it, but I did not save the rest for left overs. Wonton soup wasn't bad, but Crab Rangoon was lacking filling and the dough seemed under cooked / under fried. I would not rule this place out, but I would probably order something different from here next time- if I didn't just someplace different all together. read more

Great place to pick up a lunch special. For a chinese take out place, this is the best in the immediate area. The szechuan chicken extra spicy is delicious! The food here can be a little over sauced but a great way to solve that problem is ask for extra rice... To soak up all the goodness at the bottom... Lol... So I always order from here cause they have really good food for the price. I ordered some steamed dumplings for my mom and she opened up the container to find mice droppings inside. I called back once to explain and they hung up on me so I called back and I was "disconnected" anyway they tried to argue and say it's burnt stuff from the pot... what? From steamed dumplings? No my mom and dad both worked for a pest company so they know what rat poop looks like and even if it was the pot maybe they should clean it. I went to this place for takeout. I should've followed my own instincts. For some reason the restaurant had a strange smell. I decided to get chicken and mixed vegetables. When I got home the chicken didn't look like any chicken I ever saw. I ate a piece and a little bit of pork fried rice and decided to throw it out. I will NOT be going back there again. read more

Went here 04/07/15 based on Yelp reviews. Chicken & garlic was tasty but had a piece of bone in it. Moo Goo Gai Pan was nothing special. Shrimp toast was straight up a waste of money. Four blackish objects appeared on the plate. Filling was more ground pork than shrimp. Very disappointing. Egg roll was greasy and nothing special. I could be wrong but I'm thinking Tan May needs to change out their oil. Wonton soup was decent but they don't even give you hot mustard or fried noodles. Got an order of fried dumplings to go for a co-worker. She said they were nothing special. Won't be going back here.
