Recently stopped here along the way to San Antonio. This place was awesome and worth checking out!…read moreI love the detail and history that goes into this rest stop and so far every rest stop along interstate 10. Tons of parking spaces for cars and trucks with clean restrooms and great amenities. Great place to check out in the summer to escape the scorching sun.

So my father being as old as he is has to stop every 60 miles to go to the bathroom, damn all that medicine he takes. Any ways....i decided to stop and stretch a bit while he ran in. Right when you get into parking lot it's free and clear of any trash. The bathrooms are located inside the rest stop building that has a small museum in it with snacks and drinks. There is even a kids play area right outside that is pretty solid. New and shaded area for a quick pic nic and a few nice trees with park benches underneath them. Now if you have the four legged family pet there is also a dog walking trail. I don't of course so I didn't check it out. I'm really impressed. It felt like I was in a huge park ready to enjoy some perfect scenery. If you ever need to stop and stretch this is a location I would suggest. It's definitely not like the scene in the movie "There's Something about Mary" with Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz. If you haven't seen this movie before sure to YT that scene. You will get the joke. Great place for a 2-3 day retreat. Dog-friendly (on leash required). The customer service responds…read morequickly, and check-in/check-out are smooth and easy. This year's water level is historically low (since the 1960s), so direct swimming access to the water is nearly impossible. Boat ramp closed. However, the view is still spectacular. We also appreciate the grill spots -- we saw previous complaints about the grills -- honestly, we don't quite understand why they are being so picky with the public grill spots lol... I can tell they have tried their best to manage/clean. A/C works well, especially at night! Not much noise created. All the fire pits were upgraded and well-maintained. Some things to be careful with: 1/ Some weeds in the grass can be sticky and painful to pick off. Be careful walking in grass near the cabins (wear water shoes). 2/ Some dogs may be reactive to people/other dogs (barking). But everyone was very respectful. 3/ Didn't try the swimming pool; it looks a little muddy. 4/ Coffee station not working well. We noticed from others' reviews and brought our own coffee boiling pot with pour makers. They also didn't provide milk/coffee mate. 5/ Pillows are not quite comfortable.

Can't believe it's been 10 years since my first stay at Canyon Lakeview Resort. Instead of a group…read moreof 40, we were about 24 adults, a few kiddos, and a handful of furbabies. And just like last time, it was a great stay. I'm not sure if I noticed their amenities last time or if they added on facilities in the last decade, but a few things to know: o There is a giant, we're talking massive swimming pool that's 3"5 deep all the way around. As a shawty, I appreciate that. There's plenty of seating, pergolas for much-needed shade. No restrooms at the pool. o Volleyball court o A main lodge area/event space, perfect for family reunions and such. o There's a "motel" also onsite. o It's dog-friendly, with a max of two dogs per cabin and a $25 deposit per pet per night. o Amazing sunsets, direct lake access for swimming or boating, grilling areas, and "The Point" which is a great spot for a nightcap and handing with friends/family. As for the cabins, once again our group reserved five of their six cabins that each come equipped with two decks overlooking Canyon Lake, a hot tub, multiple bedrooms, living spaces, fireplaces, full kitchens.... Note that some cabins may have a studio-style room with no wall. Our AC was kickin' and there was plenty of hot and cold water. Only gripe is the living room seating in our cabin, Cabin F. The chairs stunk like BO. My guess is that guest sit on them with wet river clothes... hope they steam them.

We had a great long weekend stay at the River Rd. Treehouses. The area is quaint and secluded in a…read moreshaded, wooden area under trees. Parking is along the street side directly across from the tree houses, there is no designated parking lot with spaces. To get to each treehouse you have to cross a bridge that is situated over a dry creek- so loading and unloading our belongings took a couple of trips to and from the car. We stayed in Whippoorwill Haus and were happy with the space- we had more than enough room for my husband and I and our two dogs. The house seemed clean upon arrival. The only complaint I have is that I found a bunch of women's clothing and makeup in a bedroom drawer that seemed to have been left behind- so not sure how thorough of a cleaning job they did. There is a loft with two beds that we only went up to once, just to view. The spiral staircase is narrow and somewhat difficult to go up- I wouldn't suggest bringing any bags or suitcases up there. Otherwise we stayed on the first floor of our cabin the whole weekend. The couches were a bit outdated but comfortable. The kitchen is small and has an electric stove. The kitchen utensils they supplied were at a bare minimum and cheap, but it did the job. I suggest bringing disposable utensils and plates. Also, if you plan on making any special meals- you need to bring your own seasonings, special pans, oil, etc. The kitchen is stocked with a minimum amount of dishes, utensils, and pots/pans- this is not like an air bnb- there was no leftover soap or cooking oil in the pantries. No shampoo or other bathroom toiletries, so be prepared to bring everything with you, including paper towels, FYI. We came with a group of friends and so we were able to share the common outdoor patio between our tree house and Morning Dove. There is a charcoal grill located outside of each house which we used every night for dinner. The grill was pretty dirty so bring cleaning supplies. The outdoor shared patio space has 2 large tables which were perfect for our large group. We loved sitting outside in the evenings to watch all the deer. The Guadalupe River access for tubing is across the street and about a 5 minute walk. It is not private as there are other houses and rentals along that location of the river. We went in August and the river level was pretty low so make sure you check the level before your stay if you're definitely interested in tubing. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. It was a great, local Texas escape during covid times. We loved that the tree houses are dog friendly and I highly recommend staying here if you are with a big group of friends.
