I like supporting lil mom and pop places, so I really wanted to like this place. ordered Chicken Tikka mild with a side of garlic Naan. it seems the masala spices were forgotten to be added to the main dish, as it just tasted like a tomato sauce. Also, only a few bites of chicken were cooked in the Tandoor oven. maybe because it's so hot, they forgoed the big oven. The naan was old, and hard. So many 5 star reviews. I think it's 5 stars towards the price, the portions, and service. They offered us a cup of free chai tea. The food came out extremely quick as it's already prepared in a pot. 3 stars in terms of food. The prices here are very affordable and you get what you pay for. Meaning, the food was meh. It was watery, bland and lacked spices. We got chicken tikka masala ($12.99) and Chana masala ($8.79). It comes with rice, soup and naan. Great price for the portions. 30 years they have been in business, and you only get to do that if your good is really good. I went in for a quick lunch and it is a very unassuming restaurant (the hole in the wall type) but the gentleman behind the grill makes one mean kabob. That mint chutney just compliments the spice on the chicken - and the Chicken Tandoori with the sides - excellent. The lentils - I wish I had more of them - that side is amazing. I had a great experience here! The owners were very nice and the price is amazing for the area. Definitely the cheapest I've seen. I got paneer tikka masala, rice, a piece of naan, a full garlic naan, and a mango lassi all for $18! Because of this, I wasn't expecting too big of a portion but it was actually enough food for me to split into two meals. While my friend and I were waiting for our order, the owner offered her free chai which was very kind of him. While this isn't the highest quality Indian food I've had, it definitely satisfies a craving and is worth going to support this small business. read more

We were in the area and decided to try this place out. We did see it got pretty good reviews on Yelp. We found out from the owner they have been open for close to 30 years! The inside decor is ok, there are some booths you can sit in but I don't recall any decorations or anything on the walls that I remember. I think these were flavored well, but the outside seemed a bit over fried and too hard. 3/5 2. Chicken Tikka masala- Probably the favorite thing we had. The sauce was delicious, the chicken was not too bad, we knew it was Tandoori chicken which tends to be white meat which can be dry. Not bad with the sauce, would have preferred more pieces for the price. 4/5 3. Vegetable Pakoras- These also were seasoned well, I thought a bit overdone like the Samosas. 3.5/5 4. Palek Paneer- This was ok, definitely not the best Palek that we've had. I think it lacked seasoning, just tasted salty. We preferred more Paneer and spinach seemed old. I would not order this dish again. 2/5 5. Breads- The tandoori Chicken came with Naan as well as the Palek Paneer, but we ordered different breads to try. We got Onion Kulcha and Aloo Paratha, both of them were pretty good, but the onion Kulcha was far better. I'm so happy to have this family owned business still producing the best chicken Tikka malsa I've ever had! I've been meaning to try out the menu (I've had a few other entrees), but definitely my go-to when craving naan, riata, and chicken Tikka malsa! This place is always clean, staff very welcoming with quick service and lunch special which includes a drink! Flavor has not wavered at all!!! They are conveniently located in Ralph's grocery store parking lot area, plenty of parking, and right next to the subway. My food was excellent, the samosas were crisp and the chutney was wonderful and a little different than what I am used to. I work at the acupuncture school up the street and when I was a student there, I'd come here 2-3 times per week for lunch. Very happy to find a family run Indian restaurant. Chicken tikka masala was all white meat and very flavorful. I would have appreciated more chicken but the sauce was good. I ordered take out and they were super attentive and quick on the turn of my order. Vegetable Bahji was tasty but I would have appreciated a tamarind chutney and not just a mint chutney on the side. This is still the best Indian food value in this part of San Diego. It's a menu of typical crowd-pleasers and we generally get our same favorites. Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer combos are great. Vegetable samosas, fresh plain naan and raita are excellent also. Used to be a good value. My typical combination plate (chicken tikka masala + rice + lentil soup + naan) used to be $10, now it's $14 after tax and the food doesn't taste like anything. The naan is also half the size it used to be. So it's the same story as everywhere else, where they skimp on quality and portion size and then charge you more money for it. One thing that hasn't changed is the gentleman who works at the register -- he still gives off a "give me your money and get out" vibe. On my last visit I asked for spicy and the guy said "yeah okay" while I was paying and then didn't even add the spicy powder at all like they used to do. read more

I love coming here for a special meal! I love Tandoor and have been coming here since before the pandemic. I was so happy that they opened as soon as possible after the restrictions were lifted, and I also visited them during that time. The family of employees here are always lovely and hospitable, and the food is so tasty and plentiful. You always get a LOT of food! I'm a vegetarian and always order the same thing, Palek Paneer, and occasionally add the vegetable samosas, and they're great! Whoaaaa. Have you ever been at a loss for lunch spots and just took a gamble? I did just that wth a coworker. After noticing the amount of people coming out of Tandoor around lunch time, we decided it was time to step out of our comfort zone and try it. I'll be honest, I've never really had Indian food.. I've always seen Masala at the store and I've always heard good things. So after reading a few reviews from fellow Yelpers, I decided to give the Chicken Tikka Masala a try.. I also decided to top my lunch off with some of their Garlic Naan. I'm so glad to have made both decisions. The Chicken Tikka Masala was soooo amazing. I'm not sure what it's supposed to taste like, but I image this is what good tikka masala is. It was packed with flavor and the portion was hugeeee. Much worth the price - which is hard to come by these days. The Basamati rice was perfect.. not mushy at all. The lentils tasted just as good. I can't believe I slept on Indian food this long. I could eat this every day. Broooo the garlic naan... I could buy two and just snack on it all day. I completely and highly suggest trying it if you're thinking about it. The garlic wasn't burnt, perfectly browned and packed with garlicky goodness. My only issue, because I'm a weirdo... is the texture of the chicken. It was packed with fat and tendons or cartilage.. and I honestly couldn't handle that. But I pushed through since it was worth it. I know everyone has their own preferences, so I didn't knock the texture considering that's my own. Now if only I could decipher the entrees so I knew what to get next time. I wasn't even aware I was hungry until I walked by, got a whiff of the restaurant and smelled their delicious dishes from outside. Tandoor is a great hole in the wall eatery tucked away among other restaurants at this Mission Valley plaza. Admittedly, it's easy to miss at first but hard to forget once you've tried it. Their menu is full of savory dishes priced affordably that range from vegetarian-friendly meals to dishes that are from a carnivore's dream. I ordered their Navrattan Korma from this young dude at the register. He was nice in answering some questions I had about the cheese in the dish, and even offered me water when my voice unexpectedly got a little hoarse while ordering. He was kind and I totally appreciated that. My meal included the korma, rice, naan and (I'm so sorry for not knowing it's proper name) a small lentil soup-like side -- all for $6.99!! I couldn't believe how much food I got for that amazing of a price Everything was delectable and tasted homemade. The naan was fluffy and fresh like it was hot off the press. The restaurant is a small Mom & Pop style place. It's tidy and unassuming. I was greeted warmly by the staff and they even offered me some free tea while I awaited my to-go order. When I got the food home, Dad loved it! The Chicken Tikka Masala was mild and flavorful with a single order more than enough to feed both of us. It came with fluffy rice, some dal, and naan. I got us an extra order of naan and some vegetable samosas as an appetizer. Everything was delicious! I would definitely return and explore the rest of the menu! read more

Was in the area and decided to swing by for lunch since my girl keeps saying how she really loves the food here. This was my first sit-down meal since the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns began. After months of take out it was super awkward for me to sit and eat, but the yummy food helped take the edge off and made it an enjoyable experience. I should note that they are open for indoor dining, but I wasn't ready for that quite yet. It was beautiful Fall day in San Diego so it was the perfect time to dine outside at one the many tables available in this plaza. We ordered two of the Tikka Masala lunch specials that includes lentils, naan, 2 vegetable samosas and a drink. Everything was well made. I like how they separate the naan from the food in the container with a sheet of aluminum foil to keep it warm and not get any of the masala on it until you are ready eat. I am ecstatic to eat out again and look forward to doing it again really soon. Hopefully I will get another chance to dine here again soon as well. read more

Very small but very nice semi-fast food Indian restaurant, with good value. Not gourmet, but tasty and inexpensive for what you get. I had the chicken curry, which came with good quality rice, a small cup of lentil soup, and a large slice of an Indian-type of bread that I think is called naan, for $10. The serving was generous and the chicken well-cooked. By itself this particular dish was very mild, as in "spicy zero". I like things spicy, so I asked for chilis and was given a shaker containing an extremely hot chili powder. That did the trick for me. But be forewarned if you do the same that the chili powder comes pouring out of their shaker -- literally. The only real downside to this place is that if you plan to dine in, you should probably have a plan B because there are only a few tables. Like five. All of the people who came in while I was eating were getting takeouts. The restaurant itself is very plain but it's clean and the staff are pleasant. I'll be back. read more

My parents liked the eggplant even though its not a standard recipe. The tandoori chicken was dry like it sat around all day. This place is great if you want cheap food that's decent.
