I had a very concerning experience with this restaurant and would strongly caution anyone with food allergies. I ordered from Tikka Taj, whose menu does not list shellfish, but when I arrived for pickup the location turned out to be Tandoori Hut. Because I have a sensitive shellfish allergy, I specifically asked the woman at the counter whether any shrimp was prepared in the kitchen. She assured me that no shrimp was used at all. This information was incorrect. After eating the food, I had a painful reaction consistent with shellfish exposure. The next day I called to speak with a manager. The same woman said she was the manager but was unable to address the issue in a knowledgeable or professional way. The call ended with her hanging up on me and then refusing to answer further calls. This experience showed a serious lack of awareness and responsibility regarding food allergies, as well as very poor customer service. Incorrect information about allergens can put customers' health at real risk. Afterward, I noticed many other reviews mentioning negative customer interactions, which suggests this may be an ongoing issue. And they only gave us 1 serving of rice for 2 entrees... luckily the naan was enough but now we had to make our own rice on the side. The food was still good. I came here to get my Biryani from here on different occasions and the taste is always different it's never consistent. They put carrots and the next time you come it won't have carrots etc. I tell them I want my Biryani spicy or extra spicy I pick up my food and the food isn't spicy like I asked them or told them I want it. Ordered the lamb vindaloo and asked for max spice. The dish itself was already strong: tender meat, good structure, and a deep flavor profile that didn't get muddy the way vindaloos sometimes do. Not spicy by default, which is to expected. What really elevated it was that they brought lots of extra spice on the side so I could dial it up myself. Dousing it definitely sacrificed some flavor and balance, but it was worth it. At full blast, it was probably the spiciest meal I've had in San Diego. We also had the samosas, which were a great complement to the meal; crispy and well seasoned. Altogether, the space is a bit dated, but the food more than makes up for it. Butter Chicken and some cheese naan are my go to whenever I'm craving some Indian food and I would recommend this place without a doubt. It doesn't matter whether you go in person or order it from ubereats/doordash, etc, the quality is always great. Review for takeout/delivery: Tonight was my first time trying this place and I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the buttered chicken, extra garlic naan, and jeera rice. I got the chicken mild and it still had a kick to it. I wasn't impressed with the rice at all, it was extremely starchy, dry, and had a burnt flavor. It must've also been my mistake when ordering, but it didn't specify that the chicken came with rice, which is why I ordered more. Big mistake. Please. Do us all a favor and avoid this business. I have had a couple of odd and unprofessional experiences here. I come from a long way to visit SD and this Indian restaurant is an awful representation of a welcoming city restaurant. First time, I was told I couldn't eat inside - only on the patio. No explanation why. Second time, about 10 mins ago, I arrived at 9pm, cause online google says this place closed at 10pm. The neon sign out front was lit OPEN and the door was open, lights on at maximum and people eating inside. As soon as I get inside, the Indians customers eating, gave us strange stares and then the front desk folks appeared from the back acting odd. I stand looking at the menu and this woman sheepishly says they are closed. I say, online it says you close at 10pm. She looks apathetic and gives an unconcerned look. She says again they are closed. I obliged and informed them to please change their online times. Something is not right here. Avoid these people and disingenuous energy. Racial profiling vibes for sure. Best Tikka Masala we've ever had. Creamy, tangy, tomatoey sauce with so much flavor layered in that my eyes watered when I tasted it. I have grown really distrusting of how much this dish varies place to place. Everyone has their preferences with Indian food, and Tandoori hut nails mine 100%. I joked to my partner that I would eat that Masala gravy if she spit in it. It was basically liquid gold, and I used my naan like a vehicle created to deliver sweet, spicy, tomato gold into my face. The naan was good. Unlike chicken tikka, naan bread tends to be pretty universally good anywhere you go. My partner didn't love the rice, but I thought it was more than okay. She said it was kind of gummy and hard, but I didn't feel the same. It was just standard rice and served its purpose as a nice palate cleanser between bites of delicious tikka masala. The chicken also wasn't dry or overcooked. We didn't order anything else, so unfortunately I can't praise anything else from the restaurant. What I can praise is the $15 price tag in a popular neighborhood, when in Vegas we pay $18 for the same dish in the middle of nowhere. Tandoori Hut was worth every penny. read more

This was our favorite place for takeout until last night. We hadn't ordered from them for a while and so when we received our food, I was shocked. The portions of butter chicken and tikka masala have been cut in half (at least), but the prices have remained the same. So we paid $75 for half the amount of food that we normally get. I've been enjoying deep indian kitchen from the grocery store so I wanted to venture out for takeout from an Indian restaurant I ordered the saag paneer, while this is a dish I normally love, it was inedible. The amount of salt of was too much. I tried a few more bites but stopped eating because of how salty it was. If the cook tried what I had eaten, this would not have been served to a customer. The paneer was perfect, silky smooth and I enjoy the slightly larger pieces. The curry itself was very good, creamy but not too creamy. Perfect blend of the tomato and cream. After returning from a trip to London, we were absolutely craving Indian food. In particular though, looking for black daal (or dal makhani). There are very few restaurants in San Diego that serve it but Tandoori Hut is one of them. While the food wasn't quite comparable to the food in London, though we weren't expecting it to be, it still satisfied the craving that we were having. Would typically give 4 stars, but an extra for having the dal makhani. We ordered the butter chicken, dal makhani, alo gobi, plain naan and raita. Butter Chicken- We decided to go medium on this dish and the spice difference was noticeable. Tolerable but definitely not for someone looking for a typical medium. Chicken was cooked tender. Alo Gobi- This is made dry, so it does not have a curry consistency. It was very tasty and I enjoyed it as a vegetarian option! Dal Makhani- Unlike the black daal we'd enjoyed at Dishoom, it had a much more textured consistency. There was a mix of black lentils with what looked like a few kidney or pinto type beans. Great flavor though. Raita- Much needed to keep things cooled down! Pair with some naan. The online ordering platform was easy to use and we'll definitely order again. read more

As someone who is an Indian food connoisseur, I must say that this is some of the best Indian food in all of San Diego! The stews here are unsurpassed, and the accoutrements are unique in their preparation and taste. The Samosa appetizer with garbanzo beans and Indian yogurt was a great start to an excellent meal. This appetizer can be eaten as a meal due to the abundance of spices and portion size of the dish. The Lamb Curry was absolutely heavenly! This dish was loaded with flavors, and the overall preparation was superior to your traditional curry dishes. The Chicken Vindaloo was equally tasty with stewed tomatoes, onions, and large portions of season potatoes. This was a better version of this dish compared to others that I have had from other restaurants in the past. Even the Raita and Keema Naan were unique versions that took this meal to the next level... The Raita had shredded carrots and fresh herbs, while the Keema Naan was full of ground lamb spiced to perfection! I say bravo, Tandoori Hut...
