They didn't freak out that I brought my kid. Didn't get the stuck up vibe either. You pay with card, then tip on some other computer where you're gonna pay the fee for using your card. FYI. This place IS expensive. REALLY Expensive which is the big minus. Be prepared to shell out big bucks but my hair looks good so- you decide! read more

It didn't ruin our day, just started it off on a sour note and yes all the out of town girls have nothing but bad opinions of you and your shop and that's entirely your fault. You and your stylists could barely blow dry and talk at the same time which is why you only got 4 heads done in 4 hours between 3 people. if I could have given a no star review I would have. My daughter booked the salon for her bridal party on an early Saturday morning before her wedding. There were ten in the bridal party who wanted to get their hair styled. Five were booked for 9:00 with five more at 10:00. When we arrived at the salon we were informed that 3 stylists did not show up This was the start of the worst experience imaginable. The three stylists who did show up were all over the place - very slow - very unprofessionalb-!extremely unorganized. One of our bridesmaids actually tried to help out by washing hair. Three of the girls left without getting any service whatsoever. Two of the girls got blow outs but left without being styled. The bride ended up doing updos for three of her bridesmaids. At first, I was skeptical getting my kids haircut because she has curly hair however, the salon specializes in that. Rae did an amazing job. It was my daughter's first time getting a haircut and she made sure every step of the way that she was comfortable. She even gave her some purple ends that she loved my daughter already. New to area and just kinda picked this salon from Google due to location and they answered their phone first‍. I've heard from multiple people that hair services in this area would be more expensive than what Im used to so I accepted the listed prices on the website. Why 4 stars? - time & money! I got a regular cut and highlighting to be honest. It didn't look any different than the $150 highlights I got from my old stylist. I'm pretty sure I can probably go somewhere else that doesnt take 3-4 hours for the same services and doesn't charge as much. Although I loved the service and the outcome of my hair it wasn't worth the money I spent (don't be upset Nikki lol. I'm just being honest). I recommend this place for the atmosphere and POS VIBES!! Great music selection and complementary live concert by one of the other hairstylist. Alanna was really great and I'm convinced of her expertise so I highly recommend her if you can shell out tha $$. DONT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR HAIR!!! I went into Tangled Up Salon on January 26th. I had a consultation with Rae. She did a test strip to see a time frame to strip the black out of my hair. I showed her pictures of exactly what I wanted, see above. I explained I wanted it dyed burgundy. My appointment was February 24th. I went in for my appointment at 130. We finished at about 630. She charged me $886 for my hair when I was advised it would be $130 an hour. 2 days after I noticed as I parted my hair that the whole top of my head was not colored. I went into the salon and spoke with Rae. Why in the world would i want to keep my roots darker when i specifically said i want my hair dyed burgundy. She said that is what Iasked for was a darker root which was not what I asked for. I had her look at how crazy my head looked and she said she saw nothing wrong with it. I left with no solution. I went into the salon the following day and asked for the owner Nicki. She was too busy to speak with me so I requested a phone call when she was done. She called the next day I missed the call. I went into the salon Nikki said she called me and didn't have time to speak with me at that time. She called back and proceeded to tell me this is what I asked for. I told her I came in with a picture which was clearly root to tip and never would have agreed to do what she did. I sent her pictures of what I asked for as well as the outcome of what Rae did. My hair looks so crazy I don't want to go into public. I have emailed Nikki with no response after 72 hours. Per several of her reviews this business owner Nikki refuses to accept any responsibility for mistakes made by her salon. She consistently puts the blame on the customer. She continues to say due the times and how the world is today her salon has to make money and her people don't work for free. So at WHAT COST? Doing shitty work and not trying to make things right. Nikki has not returned my calls or tried to make this right. So here are before and after pictures and you decide if this is the place you want to call home for your hair care needs. Just look at the pictures and decide for yourself if this work is something you would be proud of. What I can recommend is Gary Allen Salon. They fixed my hair and I love it! If you want to get robed, go to this salon. My son can do a better haircut than the man stylist there. Inside is very pretty and well-decorated but that's it. Very disappointed. Received a response from the owner that the hairdresser spent four hours with my sister. Yes, he did because he didn't know what he was doing! plain and simple. He didn't delivered what I asked for and the haircut looks worse than the one I got in boot camp. It is not my fault he spent four hours and had the audacity to charge me 315 dollars. She knows I have so much proof I even have the recording of our phone call in which she apologized tells me to come in the salon the next day take down my original review and that she's going to fix everything Then days before my appointment she messages me and says she's going to give me a $40 refund instead when I spent $200 in total and was about to spend another 200 as the solution because he didn't do what he was supposed to do that I was booked for that day literally refused what I was booked for and she was very confused herself and could do nothing but apologize and then she slanders me online forgetting how much proof I had everybody commented and said what the hell they are in the wrong why would a business post your personal Facebook page up it's just all around a weird, very unprofessional. I just had to pay $151 for a haircut! Are you kidding me. Just because I have curly hair????? Nikki wasn't transparent about the price up front or I would have walked out. She tried to blame her staff for not telling me (shame on her) but she sat down before starting and asked me how I heard about them. She could have been transparent at that time and told me about her unrealistic prices. She said that it's because of her special scissors and her experience. I've had curly hair all my life and never been charged more and they had as much experience as she did. When I asked her about the webpage saying it was $75 for curly cut, she said that it is $75+ NEVER, NEVER NEVER would I go there again. You need to be upfront with people and let them make the decision before they spend that kind of money on a haircut! read more

I recently went to tangled up salon after viewing their website and saw that women's haircuts were $60. I went into the salon met Barry who cut my hair and when it was all done I received a bill of $85! That's a far cry from 60. When I contacted the salon for them to explain to me why my bill was so high Nikki who is the owner told me that she's been so busy and that she hasn't had a chance to get to the website to change the prices. She also said that her prices went up due to the pandemic and gave me her sad story. I have also been hurt by the pandemic in my own business but never would I pull some thing like this. They lure you into the salon with a lower price and then without you even knowing it they s you with a much higher bill! I think they are unethical and I would never ever ever go back to this business again. I very seldom write a yelp review but felt that I needed to so no one else experience what I had to go through. Literally some of the best people I've ever met. Everyone of the people there do a great job. If the other reviewers are accurate, they are far and few between because for years now I've yet to ever see someone disappointed and not smiling or laughing when they are walking out of this salon. The people are absolutely awesome. From top to bottom, everyone is sweet and fun. Its not just a walk in and walk out place, its always a great time and experience. My entire family goes here including our kids and they do a great job for everyone. Even the kids get absolutely ecstatic to get their haircut because of how fun they have. Within a few days, a Living Social deal came up and I considered it fate and purcahsed a cut, glaze, and mini highlght. Well,....I am THRILLED!! Not only did Jimmy do a great job, I LOVE my hair! I had such a great experience at this salon! It was my first time there, and I have been on the hunt for a new stylist after several less than satisfactory experiences elsewhere. I called to make an appointment and was expecting them to be booked out after the reopening of salons due to COVID. However, I was excited when the receptionist (who was super warm and friendly) told me she had an opening the next day due to a cancellation. I met with Taylor, who was super sweet and knowledgeable. I explained to her that I wanted cool Blonde highlights but I understood it would take a while to get them there, as I had put box dye over a bad highlight job‍ (I will blame COVID for this lapse in judgement on my part)! I was so amazed at the results! I have spent 4 hours in other salon's and still have not walked out even close to what she was able to do...she clearly knows her stuff! My highlights are not orange or brassy, they are absolutely what I was hoping for. I will definitely be going back to Taylor, and am happy to have found a new salon! read more

I came in with the hopes that I was going to find someone who would be able to dye my hair here in Virginia Beach. I asked for my hair to be ash blonde and I had previously had my hair dyed ash blonde highlights the last time I dyed my hair. My highlights were faded and needed to be redone. I got my hair dyed here at tangled up, the girl did tell me she would be able to get my hair ash blonde. I had made another suggestion and asked her if the other color blonde would fit me but she explained that if I got my hair the other color that I had suggested I would not like it because it would look brassy to me. So I took her suggestion and decided to re-dye my hair to ash blonde balayage. Instead my hair is brown and the balayage is uneven and there is an orange tint all over. When she was done it didn't look bad but I wasn't in love. But when I got home I noticed the orange tint all over and how dark my hair is. I will have to say that the girl that dyed my hair was very sweet but I don't think she had dyed hair on someone who has super long and thick hair. I have tried calling, left an email and direct message on their insta and no one has answered. I am not the type to leave ratings but at this point I have been left with no other option. I will be getting my hair fixed elsewhere. The money I spent to get my hair done was a total waste. read more

I walked in to let them know my sons were there to get hair cuts the lady who took my temp told me I had to wear their mask over the one I had on. No problem. Apparently I didnt put it on to temp lady's standards so SHE TOUCHED MY FACE! With her bare nasty hands! I jerked away and she was like "Ive washed my hands 6 times" . I don't care don't touch people's face! Then she stares and points at me while she is talking about me to some other lady. The dude who cut my sons hair was really tall and blond he was AMAZING!! I visited Tangled Up Salon on 20 December 2018 and the stylist was Taylor. I showed Taylor a picture of the bob I wanted and she communicated it back to me. I was informed that the front of the bob would come down to my collarbone and the back would rest on my shoulders. It is much shorter then promised and no bob exists. When Taylor went to thin my hair out she cut the front long pieces needed to created the bob look. This hair style is one that I have had many times before. I left the salon hoping that I could style it better and maybe it would be longer. I was even more disappointed the next day. I called the salon on 21 December 2018 and spoke to the front desk. I was informed that the owner would want to talk to me, it's 27 December 2018 and I never received a call. I have our first family photos on 29 December 2018 and I'm so disappointed. The customer service is horrible and the service is mediocre. When you pay $195 for color and cut you expect what you asked for. I will never return/recommend this this salon, which is why I wrote my first Yelp review ever. read more

BUT when I was waiting for my haircut, it didn't seem the most professional place....even with the owner/manager there. When I walked out, there were a bunch of people sitting outside smoking. I just moved here from Tennessee and needed a cut and color desperately. I was nervous because I've gone to the same person for years. Eve cut and colored my hair and it was PERFECT! We went well beyond the time I was scheduled for and she had other appointments come in after me and she didn't rush. She still took her time and made sure my hair was perfect. Impossible to make an appointment. I called the salon three times. First time I left a voice mail. Byron, their receptionist immediately called me back, but it was while I was leaving the voice mail. I called him back immediately and he said he would call me back within 5 minutes. I waited until the next day to call again and it went to their answering machine. I decided to try their online scheduling on their website. Surprise, no response. I left them a note about my experience with them on their Facebook page and Byron said he would call me that day... Still waiting on that phone call. They have had time to update their Facebook and upload photos but not to call back new clients. I have been through so many stylists in the Hampton Roads area, and very few of them understand how to work with baby fine blond hair.....and a woman who is extremely particular about her hair......that is until I found Tangled Up Salon and Jimmy! I love the relaxed vibe of the salon, but don't let that send a mixed signal - this is one of the best trained salon staffs I have ever seen! This used to be my place!! I found the most amazing hairdresser here, her name is Val she now works at Entourage salon (she is the best) and I have followed her. This salon is adorable and most of the staff is extremely nice. The owner Nikki is a complete idiot and a rip off. She never advertises her stylists, if she posts a photo on FB etc it's ALWAYS her client an honestly she is a mediocre stylist while most of the girls there are wonderful. Ashley is also wonderful and super sweet! I have extremely short hair, like we are talking Ann Hathaway post les miserables and Nikki the owner would still have Val charge me $45 for a haircut but a man with my same cut style length would pay a men's cut fee. Now I paid it because Val cut my hair this short and I only trust her, but is warn you DO NOT see Nikki and if she overcharges you like me go to entourage and see Val! Or just see Ashley! read more

i would not go to this salon if it were the only salon in virginia beach! i went there for a hair cut and walked out with a mess. i didn't initially realize this. i realized it a couple days later when washed and did my own hair..... it was the most uneven haircut!! the left side was visibly longer than the right and from the back the left side was about 3 inches longer!! did she forget about the cutting the left side?!? i dont understand how anyone who calls themselves a professional could over look this and let someone walk out of the salon with hair like that. granted this was only one stylist in the salon but if the owner will hire people like this to represent her then i do not want anything to do with this salon. lesson learned the hard way! read more
