TERRIBLE. Came on a Saturday excited to try a new food spot in the area. It was before noon and they were already "out" of beef empanadas. How are you out Saturday before noon? It certainly wasn't busy enough to sell out. We ordered the chicken and a ricotta cheese pastry. The empanada was still cold inside. The pastry was so dry, one could choke. I had this place bookmarked for a while and finally stopped in. I was surprised to see what a low rating it had when I checked in because at the time that I bookmarked it it was four stars and rated highly. Through some digging I learned that the ownership had recently changed. I wanted to give it a chance anyways because the desserts looked interesting online. There is a sign for retail parking in the garage to the left of Tango but the parking spots are all reserved for Sunrise Senior Center and Sunrise Senior Center Cafe. We ended up parking at the lot next door but realized that Tango IS the Senior Center Cafe. The interior is nicely decorated so I had visions of coming again in the future and bringing my laptop to sit and work. That will not be the case though because the food was just eh and very expensive. They have their menu posted on multiple screens and it was a Goldilocks situation to find the right one: the one on the door rotates too fast, the one by the register is too small and hard to read, so we relied on the menu on the TVs behind the register and they also had laminated menus on the tables. I was excited to try all the different things but everything was very pricey. Empanadas are $5 each, and not generously sized for the price. The beef empanada was pretty good but a little hollow inside. My prosciutto medialuna was good but $10 is a steep price for a croissant sandwich, and not even a Costco sized one! So a regular croissant with some prosciutto and mayonnaise for $10 really felt like a price gauge! It was painful to have left a full $5 coffee behind but my partner said his Americano was undrinkable: "overextracted and tastes like motor oil". The Alfajor cookie was $4!! It was soooo dry and crumbly I coughed out chalk dust. The total for everything was $26 for essentially a croissant, an empanada, a coffee, and a cookie. We will not be returning unfortunately. Come for the vibes but avoid the coffee at all costs. Food is hit or miss. Oh and don't believe all the 5 star ratings on Google because they make you post the review when you purchase even BEFORE you taste anything in order to get 10% off your order! read more

A new Argentinian cafe has opened up in the neighborhood!!! We went on their grand opening day and came in around early afternoon and all of their pastries were already sold out. We were able to still get their empanadas though and they were delicious! Super flavorful, packed with your choice of protein (beef, chicken) or veggie (spinach). You can tell that these are handmade with love. I hope that there will be a variety of flavors and maybe a sauce for them in the future? Interior was really aesthetic. Service was super friendly! You can tell that they genuinely care about their customers. I wish we had the opportunity to try other pastry items. With time, hopefully they will be able to provide a wide variety of choices throughout the day. Will definitely have to return to give other food items a try. Come check them out! read more

Do not trust the negative reviews! This is a café made by Argentinians for Argentinians! The pastries are a slice of home and the owner is very friendly. If you're not used to it, go in with an open mind. Get a medialuna (Argentinian croissant) with a nice cup of coffee or tea and that'll get you started--open up to the new flavors and combinations, it'll change your life. I was so impressed that I bought a dozen pastries for my parents and they told me they were fantastic. Then, the day after, we all went together to have breakfast. We were disappointed in Tango Pastry.  The location is convenient although the parking garage can be a little tight.  They have nice outside seating and fun inside seating and the service behind the counter was friendly.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that, seeing the name had the word pastry in it, we went there looking for dessert.  There wasn't much.  The display cases were small and strangely empty for lunch time.  It seems like they are trying to do a little of everything - empanadas, a couple of pastries, coffee, happy hour.  The digital signs out front seemed to cycle through a wide range of options, too quickly to really read through, but, once inside, there wasn't that much from which to choose as the empanada case was also pretty empty.  We decided to try the quince pastry and the dulce de leche pastry.  There was only the media luna and it looked pretty plain.  Once we ordered, there were only two of those, no more dulce de leche pastries and maybe two quince tarts - again - very, very low inventory.  We ate the pastries at home and found them to be pretty dry.  All in all, disappointing.  I don't think we will return even though the staff was nice. read more

Beware beverages past their best due dates. My kids were treated to this rancid chocolate milk which was multiple weeks past it's due date. The staff seemed nonchalant about it and didn't bother checking the rest of their beverages. The food looked very promising as did the lattes we ordered. But alas! They were barely average. Really enjoyed a rainy day visit to Tango Pastry. The shop itself is a bit hard to find if you blinked and missed it on the corner of Liberty Lane and Maple Ave W. Your best bet is actually to make the turn onto Liberty and then into the parking garage for the Sunrise Care facility that has designated "Cafe Visitors" parking signs. The entrance is on Maple Ave (no need to enter the Sunrise facility - no tour required to get to the cafe). Tango is brightly lit and you are warmly greeted when you enter, there are several tables and counter seating that faces Maple Ave inside the shop. I enjoyed a mate cocido (which comes with milk - they do offer almond and oat in terms of non moo juice options). Hubby had a coffee and alfajor (the large one, duh) which he enjoyed. The alfajor pastry was a bit crumbly, but he enjoyed it overall. The mate was weak even though it came in a tea pitcher that contained the yerba leaves and they were soaking for a good while. The rest of the pastries did look very legitimate (from my days living in Argentina), and we will definitely be back to try the empanadas. I was impressed from an ADA perspective with the door width on the bathroom, but please do watch out when you go in, the light switch is on the opposite side side of the room and it's dark, so make sure you walk across the room, and press the button on the left before heading towards the toilet otherwise you will be 'in the dark'. When I first came into this Cafe I could just smell the amazing pastries I had to try some. I got this Custard Pastelra and it was amazing, the custard was so smooth and delicious. This place is not what it used to be with the previous owner. Food is stale, empanadas are dry, facturas are smaller and no flavor, old, Pizzas their cheese I don't know what quality is but it's runny and watery, not like a good cheese, not like the Pizzas they used to make. It was so sad because this place had potential, and it went down so badly. The owner keeps receiving bad comments, but I don't think he cares what their customers think of the food. It's also funny that their Instagram page posts are only liked by himself, his other businesses, and I think their promoter, like they don't have legitimate comments from real people. That says a lot about it, no honesty on their page, and he replies back to himself in those comments pretending like it's not himself, like it's other people. A totally negative experience at the newly opened Tango Pastry in Vienna, VA. We ordered coffee and smoothies, and they were so bad they went straight into the trash--completely full. The drinks were poorly made and barely drinkable. While the young woman who made them was kind and tried her best, the man who appeared to be the owner--sitting at a table watching everything--was shockingly rude. Instead of showing any concern or hospitality, he gave us dirty looks when we asked for the drinks to be remade. First of all, let me say the place is absolutely adorable, right across from the old Amphora. We visited on a Sunday around noon. There are a few indoor tables, some window seating, and a few outdoor tables. I also liked that the tableware is reusable. It's so nice to see an adorable, different option! This place fits right into the Vienna vibe. The people who work there seem to really want customers to be happy. Unfortunately, we were not a fan of the food. We tried four different sweet and savory items. We did not like any of them. I am not sure if they were made the day before, or maybe made somewhere else and brought in, but we found the crust of the empanada, for example, to be dry and stale. Then again I've never had Argentinian pastries before--is that the norm? So glad Vienna has a new spot and I wish the shop well. I don't think it's for us, so we won't come back. We arrived, as we later found out, a couple minutes before closing. The female employee saw us coming and just locked the door right in front of our faces. It was funny and awful at the same time. Not a good way to treat customers, especially for a new place! At least open the door and say "sorry we are closing". Says tons about the service! I recently met at Tango Pastry with a group of friends (16 people) to enjoy coffee and Argentine pastries. Both the quality of the pastries and coffee, as well as the service were excellent. All of the members of our party agreed they had an enjoyable experience trying something new and appreciated the quaint atmosphere for "coffee and sweets" on a Sunday afternoon. I really appreciate how the owner and his staff accommodated a large group for our informal gathering. Tango Pastry is a very nice addition to Vienna and provides a great diverse addition of Latin cuisine and culture that is otherwise not widely represented in the community. Final thoughts: To those who have never made empanadas and pastries themselves, please be mindful of the hard work, time and energy that goes into preparing such delicious, labor-intensive dishes. Parking situation is awful. They have a garage but it's only for the sunrise, future sunrise, and tango deliveries not their patrons. Use the street. They have smoothies but do not list flavors. You have to ask. The smoothies are thick and the paper straw they provide is too narrow. Bring your own plastic spoon to make it easier. They have a Brita filter pitcher and cups but don't refill the pitcher. read more
