Chicken Lolly Pop Chicken, Mixed Chow Mein

I love finding places that have good food for a good price. This place is a Chinese and Indian fusion restaurant so you know the flavor is always going to be there. The Chicken Lollipop is a must order, practically everyone gets it, I don't know what they put in the sauce, but I need a bottle to take home... This place is CASH ONLY, which I wish was more obvious, there is only a sign at the back that says so. I wish we had been told beforehand, by either the waitress or through a disclaimer on the menu. For two people, we got about 5 items and our total came out to $48 before tip, so it's such a good deal.

I spoke with the waitstaff, and apparently, they have two other restaurants with the same name in Sunnyside and Houston. I was like, good to know because I've been to the one in Sunnyside. Once you walk inside, you'll see a sign that says CASH ONLY! So be sure to have cash on hand. I think they redid the space inside and the outside. There's no need to make reservations. The menu isn't too extensive, and just know that almost everything will be fried. I had to ask what wasn't fried, and the manager said the dumplings could be steamed. My friend and I got the dumplings to start off. The tofu with mixed vegetables, two bowls of rice, spicy shrimp salt & pepper which they made mild, and Thai iced teas. They adjust the spices according to how you like it. Overall, I wish there were some non fried foods, but everything else was good.

Sooo I've been to the Tangra in Sunnyside and had no idea there was one in Elmhurst. My friend and I shared a plate of steamed chicken momos that came with a spicy green condiment. I appreciate appetizers that come in shareable amounts. We also shared an entree of tofu and vegetables and another entree of the spicy salt and pepper shrimp. They came with bowls of steamed rice. The entrees were pleasant and delightful. We each ordered drinks the Thai iced tea. It was nutty and yummy but not what I usually get as Thai iced tea lol. The restaurant is not very big so it looks like many order take out or delivery. Btw it's cash only! No cards.

We went with the manchurian chow mein and the chicken tangra masala. The chicken was very crispy and tender. Both dishes were packed with flavor and had a unique taste. Hidden gem! My family and I decided to come here for dinner last minute and so glad we did! This is a fusion restaurant with an EXTENSIVE menu! I mean massive.. We got the gobi Manchurian, Paneer pakora, tangra masala fried rice, basil paneer entree, manchurian chow mein and rasmalai. The gobi was FIREEE! Highly recommend! Paneer pakora was okay, would skip. The vegetable entrees were great and well seasoned. I would recommend getting the fried rice and chow mein, it was spicy and well flavored!! Everything came out quickly and service was good. this is a great family spot for family style cuisine. Will be back!

I've been going to Tangra for 12 years now, and the food is just so consistently fantastic. We've tried every Indo-Chinese place in the city and this still is our go-to. We truly love this style of food, I go to India every year for work and while there try to hunt down good Indo-Chinese; I'd say Tangra is better than 80% of what you find even in India. Our staples are Chili Paneer Dry, Veg Manchurian with Gravy (dry is good too, but we like some sauce), Tangra Masala Chow Mein, and of course the delicious lollypop chicken. Their hot and sour soup is also great, with a nice indo-chinese take on it. We've been driving there and getting it as takeout during COV19, eating it either in the car or right down the road in a park. Freshness is *key* for this food so eat it quickly!

I tried it this after 14 years. Chicken pakora, chicken lollipops and Manchurian chicken was good and delicious. Thank God no more waiting period. I really miss chilled lychee's with ice cream it it was different. That was disappointing.

Me and my beautiful wife love this this beautiful hole in the wall. Amazing Indo-chinese fusion entrees served up as you like from a friendly staff. Extremely warm hearted owner. My wifey like the mixed house noodles. I love the chili chicken dry, chicken lollipop, and the Tangra masala fried fish fritters (hidden gems). Their hot n sour soup is well balanced and aromatic, probably the best in the city...try it... Meal for two will set you back $30-$40. Go during lunch for their value-based lunch combos. $7-$8 an entree, can't beat it.

Glad I can cross trying Indian/Chinese food off my list! Dined-in on a Sunday evening for dinner around 7:30pm and got seated right away. We started out with the Chicken Hot & Sour Soup which was pretty good. My favorite was the Lollypop Chicken. The chicken had a beautifully crisped skin and I was lathering the chicken with the sauce that came with the dish. It was so good. We also got the Tiger Prawns with Ginger and Scallion and the Gobi Manchurian. Both were good but I think the overall meal was pretty heavy on the gravy, so I'd suggest diversifying. Definitely worth the visit!

This is an Indo-Chinese fusion restaurant, a cuisine that is enjoyed in Indian communities around the world. I went here for lunch with a friend and it was an okay meal, but not great. We had the chilli chicken, chilli tofu, and vegetable pakora as an appetizer. The quantity of food they give is not that big, but their prices are very reasonable. The chicken and tofu dishes were both good. Chilli chicken is made with crispy breaded chicken (similar in texture to sesame chicken) covered in a spicy sauce. The meat here was fairly moist. The chilli sauce they used for the chicken and tofu was the same and is fairly spicy - definitely not for those who can't handle spice. The vegetable pankora was very bad though. It was very hard and dry and was obviously old and microwaved.

I got nervous when I first arrived. The restaurant is dark, cramped and cash-only. To make matters worse, there was a dead bird caught on the restaurant awning. It looks shady. Now the pros: it really is a indian-chinese fusion; really good. And they have the American Chopsuey with crispy noodles. However, I still think the one in Jackson Heights definitely beats this one. The price is affordable, I still wish it were a bit cheaper though. I understand for tourists it seems a great bargain, but I'm a New Yorker. I know I can do better price wise. I'm not particularly fond of their soup. For that I would have to say Sagar Chinese in Jamaica. read more

I really like indo chinese food so I decided to try out this place. I walked it and I felt really squish because their sittings are really near to one another. I ordered chicken lollipop, some fried noodles, and samosas. The food they have taste good, I would love to come back again. read more

Like most of their other reviews, I have to give props to their lollipop chicken and that sauce that turns me into an addict, and ready to sign up for some CS (crack sauce) meetings. Unfortunately, after my last review on the greatness of all hot and sour soups from Great Wall, I'm not sold on their version. Yes, it is different than your regular hot and sour soup, it contains julienne carrots, cilantro. and no bamboo shoots. However, I'm just not a fan of it. Though, on the plus side, you are free to adjust the spiciness in it. Now onto their dry Gobi(cauliflower) Manchurian! Something that is worth reviewing for!!! AHHH, I can't get enough of that darn dish, the slightly burnt and fried cauliflower with dry spices can turn any cauliflower hater into a lover, alright...maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit....but close enough for sure. read more

My family, friends & I are a regular here for years now. Although the interior is suffocating & small as a storage box, their asian fusion cuisine is quite upto the par. Especially their tangra & manchurian fried rice is to die for. The signature lollipop chicken appetizier is also one of the most popular & favorites. The shrimp & chicken thai soup is quite spicy but tasty. Their chicken main entrees can improve a lot more since the chicken always seems to have a weird smell to it. Other than that, this location of Tangra Masala rarely fails me! read more

You have got to have a taste for Indian Chinese to love this place. My friends swear by it. Chicken Lollipop, Gobi Manchurian and the Hakka Noodles being their regular order. I really like their soups and dim sums or momos. I think I have tried pretty much everything on their menu and its all good. Don't forget to try the Malai Ice cream with lychees for dessert. Service is really friendly, the prices not so much. read more

This place is a pleasant surprise and not what I had expected. The fusion of Chinese and Indian culture introduced a new taste that I deeply enjoyed. The decor was pleasing and so was the wait staff. The food was delicious, especially the pakora. The spicy factor was done right, not so much so that I had difficulty enjoying the meal but with a nice kick to finish off a bite. A definite must go to enjoy a different culinary fusion that differentiates itself from the modern fusion that we all love to hate. read more

This location is decent in spacing but the food is always fresh here rather compared to the Queens Blvd location, and their Tangra Masala Rice is unbeatable at taste and pricing. It will end your hunger with ease! And Halal as well! Also the service is superb, here they treat you like your part of their family, I'm a regular there. read more

This place is the most disgusting place I've ever been too. I didn't like the food so I didn't tip the waiters. The waiters ended up chasing me and my friends outside asking for tips. I was quite appalled! I didn't feel like giving a tip because their food was not all that great. The only thing I liked was the lollipop chicken. read more

This place is a waste of time and money. Chicken lollipop is just fried chicken.. "Spicy Chicken with Garlic sauce" is served sweet for some reason. Chilli chicken is tasteless. . I would not recommend this place to anyone.. I am a foodie and I usually find something good in every dish that is served to me but this food was exceptionally bad. read more

Really good food, i just wish they took credit cards. They do a great fusion of indian and chinese, have meat and veggie. The food can be quite spicy so be careful when tehy ask you how spicy you want it. The actually restaurant is quite small and not air conditioned but the food is well worth it. read more

Good: One of the best places for lovers of Indian food. Very cheap and yet tastes really good - hence I visit more often. LOLLYPOP CHICKEN, GINGER CHICKEN are a must try. LYCHEES W/ ICE CREAM for dessert will be a good finisher. Very close to subway station. Bad: Cash only. read more

Delicious! I Absolutely love this place. Their chicken corn coup with a little bit of the vinegar/jalapeno thing that's on the table is delicious. Most if not all of their soups are good though. Get the hot and sour if your feeling a little sick, it'll kick your cold. Every time I go I have to get the lolipopchicken. Its so crispy and spicy and well-made. The sauce they give with it also helps to balance out the spice, if you have trouble with spice. Chicken/vege pakora is also another nice appetizer. I usually like to go there just for the appetizers actually, but the dishes that I always get are chilichicken, manchurian beef, and the pad thai. Also their friend rice and chowmein is pretty good. Desserts arent really all that, I'd skip it and go down the block and around the corner to a bakery if you're looking for something sweet. read more

Cash only, so come prepared! Portions are generous, great for sharing. Price point is typical for NYC. Finding parking is a nuisance, especially on a busy Friday/Saturday. Seating leans towards a smaller space, so be prepared to wait for tables to open up during peak business hours. Food 8.5/10 times has been consistent, good quality, fresh tasting, good flavor. Food tends to be spicier than most asian-fusion spots, but that doesn't bother my palette. Their lollipop chicken is a fan favorite, and for a reason, its finger lickin' good! Their trangra masala fried rice is also one of my favorites, bursting with flavor, heat, spice and depth of taste! Manchurian chicken/beef always a hit too, saucy or dry, its flavors are really good, not just spicy, but has a good taste to it as well. Their chicken thai soup, hot and sour soup has always been really good too. Def a fan of this place! read more

Don't know how this ranks with other Indo Chinese places nationally or internationally, but its the best in NYC , for sure. There are some places in Curry Alley, but they don't compare. Lollipop chicken is brillo, and I prefer the dry chicken and beef dishes to the sauced items. Worthrth the trip to the boonies. read more

I think I made a horribly wrong decision based on previous reviews. I went on a tuesday afternoon for Lunch and the only thing I can say about it was..Stale food!. Nothing was fresh. It seemed as if the dumplings had been made a month in advance and stored in the refrigerator and just heated (that too partially) and served. It was just a thick skin of white flour with hardly any chicken. The noodles left a lot to be desired. Just adding chilli sauce with some soya sauce is not Indian Chinese... I would not recommend this place to anyone! If you are ok with wasting your time and money eating stale, old food then go ahead... read more

Fabulous food. I love indo-chinese food and have been looking for a place that can serve amazing indo-chinese in NYC and THIS IS IT! I wouldn't say that everything on the menu is awesome BUT if you pick whats right for you, you will fall in love. We had 1. Tangra masala fish appetizer (LOVED IT!) 2. Tangra masala chicken fried rice (super spicy - OK OK) 3. Chicken Manchurian gravy (OK OK - I wish I had ordered the dry. Might have been better) 4. Chilly Paneer dry (AWESOME) I want to try the chop suey and the chicken manchurian fried rice and a bunch of other things the next time :) read more

It's my husband's favorite spot for chicken lollipop!!! But I've realized that their dish prices isn't matched to their portion sizes in Elmhurst. A $12 dish you expect to be enough shared among two people but no it's not even enough for one person. read more

Great service!! Great flavors. Not much in appearance, but they make up for it with good food and a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The only reason I haven't given this place 5/5 stars is because it's CASH ONLY. Luckily there is an ATM one store over ($0.99 fee). Fast service. I enjoyed the spicy chicken wings the most! Second was the mixed Manchurian chow mein with chicken, beef and shrimp. I didn't care for the Tangra Masala chicken with gravy. It seemed to be missing something. Otherwise I enjoyed myself. read more

Excellent restaurant for indo-chinese food in Queens. They have a great variety of flavors with some being very spicy. The soups are also a trademark of their place, including the lollipop chicken. The Manchurian fried rice is a must have. They do only take cash unfortunately and are quite pricey. But definitely worth the amount and they're usually very quick with making the food. The downside would have to be the amount of salt used, especially to make their gravy dishes. I usually spend a lot of time just gulping down water. read more

Three times I regret with one order foods from Tangra masala: first when I found them stale, particularly chicken wings and my sisters also had bad impression with their orders of couli and tofu items. Second I had to trash a half, and third it made me immediately rush to bathroom! read more

TOO SPICY. Ordered an assortment which included lolly pop chicken and manchurian beef but everything tasted the same due to the overpowering spiciness. Service rather indifferent. Cash only - you should count your change here. For those looking for a local Queens restaurant - don't bother- place was full of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn hipsters. read more

Well China is a lot closer to India then Mexico. So this easily surpasses anything that the Taco King can do. Tangra Masala was very a nice small place on the corner of Grand Ave and Queens Blvd. The food is tasty and the service fast. Chinese style Indian cuisine is delicious! I will go there again and again. read more

If you understand this cuisine, this is one of the best places in the world for this cuisine. Indo-Chinese doesn't get better than Tangra Masala. It's a hole in the wall type of establishment. So, prefer take out from here. Food is just superbly ridiculously delicious. read more

Nothing great about this restaurant except lollipop chicken. We ordered vegetarian manchurian, tangra masala noodles, chilli chicken. Everything was tasteless. Tangra masala noodles tasted like they added tons of red chilli and no taste. My wife and I love indo-chinese, but this one didn't do it for us. Would not go back or recommend this to anyone. read more

Indo-Chinese food is an indian spin on chinese food with all the goodness of indian spices mixed with awesome chinese food. It was a staple of mine back home so when I moved to NY where you can find any cuisine on the face of earth it was only natural that i try to find it. The biggest advantage of this place is that it is right next to the train station so extremely easy to reach. I hadnt expected such excellent food. A total hole in the wall place which is always packed. I normally just do take out. The chicken lollipop with their own secret sweet sauce is just sexy. A tip: mix the sweet with the schezwan sauce and then dip it and gobble on happily. Nirvana!!! I have tried so many different dishes there but my current favorite is the veg. tangra masala fried rice( add egg) with paneer chili. It is beautifully hot. Not something you find everyday in the US. read more

They had poured some sweet and sour sauce over the top. The fried rice tasted like onions: certain the spring roll was from a box of pre-packaged rolls. Prices have gone up: the food is just horrible. Very sad. Yes, I paid full price and ate very little. I will never go back.

For $8.50 this large portion of boneless ribs and chicken fried rice was awesome. The food was hot, it tasted fresh and it was a lot. You can actually make two meals out of this. The boneless ribs were cooked perfectly and it had an abundance of sauce on it. So much that you can actually use some for the rice. The chicken fried rice was fresh and the vegetables were a great tasty addition. Looking forward to trying something else from the menu and seeing where my taste buds will happily go next time. Parking is not great because it is by a school but weekends look like there's plenty of parking spaces available. Why Four stars you might ask, I'm a big believer in the whole review not just the food.

I know it's hard to rate white rice, but I love white rice and have standards to it. It has flavor and slight stickiness, which is my preference. The mapo tofu is generic like everywhere else. The sauce is not spicy and resembles the same brown sauce you find on other Chinese food. The tofu is great though - it's still soft instead of chewy. The ground pork tastes similar to the pork inside dumplings. The fried rice is super bland and could use salt. The crazy part is the pork pieces - they are AMAZING. They are on par with Texas BBQ. I could eat a plate of just the pork pieces in the fried rice. The egg foo young was really good too and huge portions. Overall, some things were flavorless and some things were amazing.

I will say the one disappointing order I've had is with a shrimp dish, as it was quite small with about 7 pieces of shrimp in total. Oh - they don't take credit card so come prepared with debit, cash, or apple pay!

Had the $30 Branzino (didn't realize that it's fried. And that we had a choice between sweet chili sauce, mango salad, cashew cream sauce). The waitress didn't ask which one we wanted. Also had the $18 Crispy Watercress Kung Fu Salad. We were thinking of a duck dish (& I didn't see the Khao Soi - one either softshell crab that I've seen previously), but the couple next to us who's been there twice within the past 2 weeks recommended these two dishes. The salad was lightly battered vegetable, they used Water Spinach instead (big tuber fritters stuck together). The bowl of Seafood Salad (shrimp & calamari, kind of Thai ceviche-style) was OK but didn't have nuances in flavor (spicy sour sweet). The Liquid was deep at the bottom and it was hard spooning things on top of the vegetable. The presentation of the fish was gorgeous - came out on a fish-shaped platter on top of an little flame. The server poured the sauce over the fish and everything bubbled. There was cauliflower and string beans underneath the fish. Didn't realize that it was fried instead of broiled or grilled. We didn't know what sauce we were getting and at first I thought it was tiny bit sour, as I continued eating, it became like a one-note tamarind. Same - there wasn't any sweet sour spicy fishy. We asked for medium-spice when we ordered. It's a little awkard deboning and serving a fried crispy fish on top of a metal platter at a 2-seat table, but my Auntie-skills kicked in and it's no problem for me since I'm familiar with where the bones are. Friend ordered a Thai Coffee also (it might only come iced). The restaurant is beautiful and has a sleek but tropical Asian decor & about 75% full even up to closing. Has a cute outdoor seating area too - a very different vacation feel on a block of Woodside/Elmhurst Queens. Later I come to find out my Queens - born Thai friend said he stopped going to this restaurant after it's renovation and adding sushi to the menu. The ownership changed and he doesn't think it's Thai-owned anymore. Either way, I kind of wish the food met up to the standards of this "Little Thailand" area of NYC. Maybe I'll try them again if they have lunch specials. A couple was sharing a giant beer glass of Thai Tea.

The former tasted similar to a pound cake in cupcake-like form, sprinkled on top with fine sugar. The latter was a sweet bun with shredded coconut that tasted sweetened with palm sugar. It had a lovely fragrant coconut flavor and was tasty though a tad too sweet for me. The store itself isn't big, a pretty casual set up with seating for maybe 12-15 at cafe tables. The back counter is where baked goodies are displayed, a fridge on the right contains chilled drinks and full-sized cakes which looked made to order. On the left side of the store are some Filipino grocery items on shelves. Staff was friendly and helped answer a couple questions I had about ingredients, (or asked other staff what they didn't know). If I was in the area I'd come back to try a few other items.

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience at Tangra Masala and won't be returning. From the beginning, things went wrong -- my daughter was served water with a straw that had a cockroach inside it. I immediately informed the manager, but instead of offering a genuine apology or taking full accountability, she placed the blame on their supplier. Regardless of where the straw came from, something like that should never make it to a customer's table, especially when children are involved. The overall atmosphere also felt off. The staff appeared visibly unhappy and disengaged, which created a tense and uncomfortable dining environment. It was clear that they weren't having a good experience either, which sadly showed in the service. To make matters worse, the food quality has really declined. Dishes that used to be full of flavor now tasted bland and carelessly prepared. It was far from the standard I remembered. What added to the disappointment was seeing a 15% service charge automatically added to the bill -- despite the poor experience and lack of basic hospitality. It felt undeserved, especially given everything we encountered during our visit. I used to enjoy this place, but this experience was truly disheartening. I hope the management takes this kind of feedback seriously and works on improving both hygiene and overall service. read more

So the employee told me and my mom stupid. I complained to the manager and he told that he ll complain to the boss. But he didn't. A lot of politics going on in this place. That day I felt to slap him but my no continued stop me so i didn't have any choice but swear a god I will slap him next time if I see his fucking face again. I was visiting Queens and someone recommended but it was completely disaster. I went there and I was told 20 mins wait time and we ended up getting table after One hour, the service was bad too they forget few items and there was no taste at all, looks everything was just dipped on some sauce or just mixed with veggie. The panner chilly was very very dry and had no taste, the chilly Chicken from inside has not taste as well. I will not recommend and would visit again because after all this it was very expensive and my tummy hurt entire whole next day and so does some other guest with me. First time I went and tried this restaurant on recommendation of friends food was average nothing amazing or out of the world..... Soups were actually a little better tried both their chicken corn soup and hot and sour soup... Misses liked hers ( hot n sour) I didn't think mine was that good.... I popped in here for some take out. While the service was friendly and efficient enough, the chili chicken I purchased was rather blasé, not spicy and had no chilies. Considering the medium sized container it was packaged in, and the total price of $14.00, I felt rather unsatisfied.
