After seeing this place being reviewed highly on social media, I gave it a shot. It was just ok. There were about 7-8 choices in the buffet today. There was curry goat that was good. The butter chicken was bland. The tandoori chicken was a bit burnt but tender and edible. I had to dig to find pieces that weren't burnt. The jeers rice was just plain rice. The saag paneer was ok. The fried veggie patty was a bit over fried but edible. The best thing was the rice pudding. The staff was attentive with refilling our water cups and taking old plates away. The chicken biryani was bland and lacked flavor, probably the worst biryani I've had. My favorite item was the naan. It was soft, fluffy, and easily the standout of the meal. This is my first time visiting after it has been renovated and since they changed their store name. I went for my usual beef momos and chicken chow mein. The chicken felt kind of hard (maybe a bit overcooked) but it was still pretty good. The Momos were good too; I think they're very comparable( in terms of price and taste) to all the other Momo shops in the area. Service was quick and efficient. They are continuing the Delhi Heights tradition (that former name is still there alongside the new name on some of the menus and signs) and while their north Indian menu is a bit smaller than before the food is just as good, which is to say amazing. The chicken they use in the chicken tikka masala is thigh meat I believe and so moist and flavorful as a result. (The chicken tikka platter is also wonderfully moist and flavorful,) The Palak Paneer and garlic naan are both the best in the neighborhood. I was near Namaste Tasi Delek Restaurant & Bar and decided to stop in for dinner. I was looking for vegan options, so I asked the server about the menu. The server was very patient and helpful while explaining the dishes. They told me that many vegetarian dishes include cream or butter, but a few options could easily be prepared vegan, such as Aloo Gobi and Bhindi Masala. I asked if they could prepare the dish with no chili spice, less salt, and less oil, and also make it fully vegan with no cheese, milk, or cream. The server said they were happy to accommodate my request. Each dish also came with rice. I like wai wai sadeyko and chatpat from this place, so i bought some frozen momos. This was the first batch i was making and found hair in my momo. I went there next day, complained about my momo and even showed him this picture. He zoomed it and said this is not a hair, it must the steel sponge that you use to wash dishes. I was shocked. I didn't even expect this answer from him. I just wanted an apology and my money back, but he gave me my phone back and left. After this incident i don't even go there to buy chatpat. I couldn't decide if I liked the steamed or the fried version better. Good thing I didn't have to decide because you can order a combo that comes with both. Been ordering the chicken steamed momo's from here for quite sometime now - almost 7+ years. Even though they have been quite consistent with their momo's (since that's all I ever order), my only biggest concern is they barely answer their phone when I call to order ahead of time. I'm a big fan of Himalayan Nepalese food after trying it out at Nepali Bhanchha Ghar several time. I also don't mind the modest accommodations. My visit this time was to go to Lhasa Fast Food, but after failing to find it, I opted to visit Namaste instead. Here's a quick summary. We ordered the following with a brief comments: 1. Jhol Momo Chicken & Beef - This Momo was lame at best. It was more than 1/2 empty, mixed in a boring gravy and was more dough than anything else. 2. Fried Momo Beef - Filled with a mini sample of beef, again more dough than anything else. 3. Chicken Chow Mein - Chicken was hard and stale. Tasted much better Chow Mein everywhere else. 4. Beef Chow Mein - Beef was not edible as you can see from the pic. Looks stale, tasted old and fatty. Just terrible. Meat was not fresh. Couldn't eat any more of it. 5. Selroti - Took one bite and returned it to the kitchen. Hoping they threw it out where even starving stray cats don't get to it. I'd hate to see the disappointment on their face too! 6. Chicken Fried Rice - left it untouched after I tried everything else! I've had enough disappointment for one place. 7. Coke - The only thing I really enjoyed today! I did not mention the modest basement accommodation because I'm not new to this. I frequent Nepali Bhanchha Ghar which is less than a block away with similar atmosphere, but unlike this place, the food at Nepali Bhanchha Ghar is phenomenal especially the Momo's. Namaste did not live up to the reviews I've read. I'm not a very picky eater, but I expect freshness and heart from the food I eat. This place lacked any imagination and never gave me a pleasant memory to leave with. I can say with certainty that I will never step foot here again. And will be very careful not to blindly believe the reviews on this site. Nepali Bhanchha Ghar has 3.5 stars rating, but it's north of 4 starts in my book. Late night momos have been a stellar source of post 4AM cravings that is a nod to unique variety as it is about simple tastes. The momos here are good, perhaps not as good as Potala Fresh Food (http://www.yelp.com/biz/potala-fresh-food-jackson-heights), but still decent. I find the skin is a big doughy at times, but it still has a fresh inkling of momo juice with every bite. I personally believe they're best during the day time, when it's more crowded, and the momos are cranked out by the dozens. Momos are what they do best here, but I've also sampled some of their balep korkun, a type of flatbread they heat up on a skillet or frying pan, as well as some of their chowmin (chow mein). Whenever I get the flatbread they serve it with this chili sauce that gets some good heat. The chowmin noodles are fluffy without being too oily, but perhaps my tastebuds show my preference to the Chinese variant, since this was a bit on the bland side. Usually I keep it real simple and go for a $5 order of momos and call it a meal. I've eaten at Merit so many times that I can't believe I missed this back counter where Tashi Delek sells their goods. There's a tragic quality about Namaste Tashi Dalek (NTD) - that 900 pound albatross wrapped around its neck is a mediocre Indian joint named Merit Kebab palace (RIP). Whenever the boys at Merit does a bad job cleaning the toilets and the back section start to smell, the customers at NTD suffer. Whenever they piss off a customer at the front with surly service, some misinformed hipster skips out on them. Now that Merit is closed "for renovations" (yeah, whatever. It's probably because they skipped town to avoid back taxes/suppliers and took down a wall to pretend they are working on it.). You will have to go around the block to 37th Av/Diversity Plaza for a fix at their other location (it's downstairs at Delhi palace). The truth of the matter is, Namaste Tashi Dalek is a good place to eat, but you'll have to convince your date/SO that the shabby, busy, noisy dirty looking joint is worth the effort. I took three past SOs there and only one (begrudgingly) tolerated it. Guess which one I ended up marrying. So the first thing to ask...are the momos good? Every momo joint does things differently, and it's up to your own personal preferences. The Potala truck does theirs almost like a Shanghai style soup dumpling, except they use rough chopped beef and mutton. Considering how Potala is an outdoor cart the heartier flavor works better. Friends uses finer chopped but adds some tumeric in theirs so it has a yellow tint. Amdo is similar to Potala but has a thinner skin and a finer texture. NTD? Their momos are actually similar to a Shandong style potsticker, crescent shaped, thinner skin, but juicy. $6 gets you an order and they toss in a bottle of CostCo water for free. I don't usually come in for momos, I gun for their chicken thenthuks. A bowl of hearty soup with free-form "slicker" noodles that has bits of chicken and veggies (previously frozen veggies, the same that you find in their Manchu-Mirch, or Chinese-Indian style chow-meins). $6 gets you a steaming bowl, and all you need to do is add some of their sauces. A dash of birds-eye Chile infused soy, some of their chili garlic hot sauce, and maybe their tomato Chile sauce. A good side dish is the Aloo Dum, which is a mix of spiced potatoes punctuated with jalapeño peppers and peppercorn that goes for about $3 a plate. It's good eats for the winter and an excellent value. As for their chow-mein, it's okay if you like the Panda Express variety, it's fresher tasting and has a bit more flavor. Another thing to try is their thali - about as competent as the ones at Mustang Thakali but quite a bit cheaper. Of course, this place does have its drawbacks. The back table gets crowded with Tibetan or Nepali customers, and the new location involves descending a set of shabtastic stairs. It's also comically arranged as a bar, restaurant and lottery ticket purveyor, but hey, they cater to local needs. Have some patience. You shall be rewarded. read more

I ordered the the Vegetable Mok Thuk (Soup with Momo) and Chicken Momo. The Mok Thuk is perfect for the cold weather, has a strong minty flavor. Momos for beginners, that's how I refer to Namaste Tashi Delek Momo Dumpling Palace. It took me awhile to find this stall, to brave past the Tandoori chicken and chaos. For an outsider who is used to everything so formulated in the restaurant business, it can be daunting to step inside the Merit Kebab and Dumpling Palace. People are shouting all over the place, the line is scattered, and the people are so engrossed in their food you will wonder how to break through that barrier and become one of them sinking your fingers into a plate of colorful orange, yellow, and hot pink rice. All the way in the back is Nepalese/Tibetan food. I like to buy their momos. They come eight pieces in a Styrofoam container. I started out with beef. Once, I watched the juice of the momos quickly coagulate. I now shy away from the beef fat and have moved on to the chicken momos. The veggie momos take 10 minutes to steam and I like my food fast when I'm starving off the train. I have yet to try the healthiest option of momos. The beef and chicken ones are just always readily available. There are two dipping sauces that come with the momos- a buttery sweet Tamarind one or the put your mouth on fire tomato chutney one. I like to get both and switch back and forth. A lot of people say that the momos at Namaste Tashi Delek Momo Dumpling Palace are not the best but I like them. They are a nice introduction to momos and to me they most resemble a Chinese dumpling, plump and crescent shaped. The dough is not too thick. The wrapped is strong enough to hold the filling and hearty enough to warm the belly. I eat them like a meal. On cold days I like to buy the chicken soups with Thukpa thin noodles almost like spaghetti or Thentuk hand pulled thick noodles. The soup tastes homemade and are quite substantial. I like to put the soy based sauce into it with the peppers. It gives it a nice spicy, sour, vinegarish flavor. If you pay in cash, they charge $1 cheaper. The steam table looks good with lots of potatoes and chicken. You won't run out of options with Namaste Tashi Delek Momo Dumpling Palace. You just gotta be a little adventurous. read more

I'm particularly intrigued by the gent who believed the condiments served with the momos are "mustard and ketchup." If I ever had my tongue surgically removed, I'd save lots of money by avoiding restaurants (even cheap takeout stalls) and sticking to Alpo by the can. In New York these days, it's hard to review this kind of thing "credibly." There's always someone who did a few semesters in college in Lhasa who'll tell you that what you're eating is a pale imitation of the "real thing." And then some other scenester who hiked all the way to Qamdo (for the express purpose of getting interrogated by Chinese authorities and posting about it on Facebook) will one-up his Lhasa bud and tell you, "No, man. That Lhasa product is for city suckers. You've really got to hit the roadside momo shacks of eastern Tibet just after the kerosene is delivered." Anyway, I liked my momos. I really preferred the steamed vegetable dumplings to the fried chicken momos. The latter were a bit oily. The skin was a bit too thick, and the filling wasn't quite as flavorful as I'd like. The vegetable momos suffered from none of the above deficiencies. The above mentioned "mustard and ketchup" were the best part. The hot yellow sauce had a kick that I didn't expect. Namaste Tashi Delek Momo Palace is at the foot of the stairs of the subway station at 74th-Roosevelt. It shares the same entrance with Merit Kabab Palace. For momos, go to the stand in the back. It's $6.00 for 8 momos and a bottle of water. The nicest woman ever helped us. We ordered and took a seat. The nice lady brought our order to the table. The momos came with two sauces, one spicy, the other less spicy. Absolutely delicious. We had the chicken and the veggie. The thick momo skins were awesome. So good!!! The dining space is shared with Merit Kabab, which has a million menu items. Lunchtime gets busy and it looks like an Indian fashion show. I loved the beautiful dresses! I cant understand why this place has so many positive reviews... The place is literally a small little stand in the back of Merit Kebab Palace; the new influx of Tibetan/Nepalese immigrants has led to many of these small shops opening in Jackson Heights. However this is probably one of the worst choices for momos and Tibetan/Nepalese foods. In fact the momos I had here were terribly wrapped and they fall apart when you bite into them. For those who have had good momos they are often well wrapped with not too much dough but the highlight is the juiciness of the dumplings. When you bite into them there is an explosion of flavor and sauce/soup. Biting into these you will only give you a sense of disappointment and regret for not going to the other spots. The only good thing about this shop is that it is open 24 hours and because it is located at the back of another store there is a variety of different foods you can have when you decide to visit. read more

The previous momos I had tasted like they were cooked after having been removed from a frozen, pre-packaged container. These, however, tasted fresh. The meat inside was mixed what tasted like cilantro and some other spice which made them really delicious. The best part was the hot sauce with which it was served. Gosh, where do I begin? 6 dollars for a plate of steaming beef momo, alongside a bowl of soup broth, and a bottle of mineral water is as sweet of a deal as you're going to get as far as budget meals in New York are concerned. Add that to the wonderful wait staff, who have been creating these delectable momo for years, and are constantly pleasant- AND tell you not to forget them when you tell them you're leaving New York for a bit. The hot sauce and the tomato sauce are also equally delicious. I had read about it and was eager to try it for lunch. I admit I usually count on my trusty Iphone and the Maps application to guide me through neighborhoods that I'm not so familiar with. After plugging in the address and following the directions, we found ourselves on a very residental street in Queens with no sign of any businesses, let alone a food joint. I soon realized that where Maps sent me was a completely different address than the one I had entered. I have no idea how or why this happened, but time was ticking and we needed to get this lunch before too long. So I had to look up at the numbers and make my way to the correct address (just like the old days), which ironically (and frustratingly) was literally just outside the subway station (a different station than the Maps app told us to take). We went on a wild goose chase for nothing. But this is not a review of the Iphone, so I'll get to the food -- which we had to take out and eat on the train. There are two food stands here. The first is Bengali food and further back in the corner is the Tibetan Tashi Delek. The chow mein was tender and chewy and not too greasy. The vegetables were fresh and cooked well. And the dried beef was incredibly interesting. It had a salty smoky flavor that was reminiscent of beef jerky (in a good way). The chow mein wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it was a good version of a dish I don't regularly eat. And it was surprisingly well-prepared and fresh. The dumplings (I think these were from the Bengali stand) were underwhelming and the stuffing was not overly fresh. The sauce however was incredibly spicy and exciting. The chaat was amazing with both spicy chickpeas and cooling sauce. Next time, I'll make sure I have enough time to select my food carefully and really get a feel for the color of this place. Was hungry and driving through the area on the way home. Decided to Yelp my dinner and pulled over on the side of Roosevelt and search for what was close-by, cheap, and something I'd never tried before. Nepalese dumpings it was! Got the chicken dumplings for $5. Delicious and filling. Wasn't a fan of the spicy sauce, but the milder yellow sauce was great. Very good cooking, the price is right, and obviously the local folks seemed to enjoy it. And I'll be back sometime soon. read more

Best MOMOs in NYC. I moved to NYC few months ago. I decided to find out the best place for Momos. I decided to try different places to find do my "Momo Research". I tried MOMOs at Tashi Delek, Laligurans, Bhim's Cafe, Thakali Kitchen, and Himlayan Yak. I talked to several people who had MOMO at Tashi Delek and other places. I hear the same thing over and over when I talk to people. Anyone who has had MOMO at Tashi Delek will say, its the best among these different places in New York. FYI, This is not a good place if you want proper decor or anything fancy. But, just for food and taste. Momos couldn't be better. read more

Keep in mind that this review is specifically for the Nepalese/Tibetan/Bhutani back counter. My initial reflex is to give this establishment a four. The lady at the counter was extremely patient with my ignorance when it comes to Himalayan cuisine. She recommended the chowmein and the momos, but I ended up ordering a potato dish called alu dum and some steamed bread instead. In terms of flavor, I give the potatoes and bread were very satisfying. However, they were not uniformly heated. I will definitely return to try the momos and chowmein. read more

Amazing Nepalese food . Though the restaurant can be cleaner. The seats are share and there are countless number of mannerless men pushing shoving and walking around. Not your average ' grab food with friends joint' def. not for a date. But the momos and chow run are worth the fight :p read more
