First let me start with I waiting a week before I tried to contact the owner so I could cool off and not reacted in a hateful manner. We have used Tannenberg Pet Resort two times. The first time was for a weekend and only a few days. We were happy with the way our dog was taken care of and how they were able to fit our dog in seeing they were full. The second time we were not happy at all. We dropped our dog off May 6th 2025 and picked him up after 9:00 am on May 12th 2025. I brought his food and a blanket with us because he is so attached to my husband and wanted him to have something with his dads smell on it. Just so he would feel comfortable while we were gone. We arrived to pick him up the lady at the counter asked if he was scheduled to have a bath and we said yes and she said OK. We paid and she asked for his collar and leash and she would go get him for us. when he was brought out to us his ears were back and He had brush marks in his fur with the strong smell of doggie cologne. (I thought it was just the smell of the dog shampoo until we got home.) She told me he had not ate yet this morning. I said OK I will feed him when we get home. When we took him outside to load him in the truck, he peed a long time then ran to the grass and pooped telling me he had not been out yet that morning. I told the lady that we had a blanket and she said oh let me go get it. She brought it out to me in a bag and said it was in the washer waiting to be washed. I said that is ok I will wash it. the blanket smelled and had something on it not sure what it was. The odor was like it had laid in the bottom of an outhouse. When we got home, he ate right away. He held his ears back for most of the day and was not his playful self. We went outside and came back in and I smelt an odor that was so bad. I cleaned out my trash can clean the garbage disposal. Still the smell was ungodly. Then I bent down to hug my dog and there it was. As a dog owner maybe, I spoil my dog too much and many may not think it is a big deal, but I feel like my dog laid in a cage for 6 days in his own feces. Just a side note our dog has never peed or pooped in the house. He would hold it until someone got home. telling me he pooped and peed in the cage because he had no choice. This is the reason I waited a week before contacting them because every time my dog looked at me, he had sad eyes and I felt so bad for what I let my dog go through. My heart was breaking every time I looked at him. I know if I would have talked to someone the moment I found out where the smell was coming from (by the way we paid for a bath) that I would not have a kind thing to say. all I have to say is shame on the staff at Tannenberg!!!! After speaking to the owner and hearing her tell me what Tannenberg offers and what she expects from her staff I would have written a different review if that was the service my dog received. With that being said I will not be using this business again. I hope this helps open the eyes of the staff and helps them to better themselves and helps fill the expectations of the owner. Also that the owner takes this to heart and fills her staff with people who really care for pets the way a pet owner would. read more

Tannenberg has been taking care of my dog, Pedro, and our cats, Neko and Ani for over 6 years. They are absolutely the best. They take such personal interest in our pets that they've become part of our extended family. They get excited when we put them in their carriers because they know they are going to Tannenberg. I also want to give you an example of the staff's knowledge and care. Our cat, Ani, had been drinking a lot of water and losing weight. Our Tannenberg carer noticed this and asked us if we had ever had him tested for diabetes. We took him to Bigger Road Veterinarian, and sure enough, he had diabetes. He is now on insulin, and he is as healthy as he was as a rescue kitten! That kind of care for our cat and dog is priceless. read more

My girlfriend has been taking her puppy here for years. I came in with her for a pick-up after vacation and the place had a warm, clean, and professional atmosphere. The family-owned business is located behind their home on Stroop Rd. The facility is well-kept and nice; the staff friendly. They walk the dogs twice a day, and provide food during boarding free of charge. Danica, my gf's puppy, actually enjoys showing up there. read more

My pup Maverick stayed here a few months ago. It was our first time leaving him somewhere overnight so I was dreading it!! But after picking him up I realized he was well taken care of and loved. The facilities are very nice and lots of options for your furry family member. I also like that each dog got play time and multiple walks a day. If we ever need to take him anywhere it'll be back to Tannenberg. read more

My in laws picked up my dog on Sunday 7/8/18 and I noticed how extremely skinny he was. You could clearly see his rib cage, backbone and pelvis. Touching him was even worse. I weighed him and he lost around 12 lbs and was there for 12 days. I should have received a phone call if he was under stress and not eating. This is what I'm very upset about. No reason for him to lose that much weight in that amount of time he was there! He was very sad and extremely tired and weak. I even called during his stay and you said he was fine. Never received a report at pickup either. Went in with a 18lb bag and left with 14.2 lbs of food. If I could tell how thin he was then the people at this place should be able to see that too. This is the first time he has ever been boarded and now I know he can't handle being in that kind of environment. Pics does not do justice. read more

I only gave it one start because it wouldn't let me post a review if not. I would give this establishment a negative rating if the option was given. On Thursday evening 7/13/17 we checked our dog into Tannenberg Kennels located at 2625 E Stroop Rd. We were boarding him for 11 nights while away on vacation. Has been boarded dozens of times but usually at our vets office. This was the second time we have had to utilize Tannenberg Kennels due to no availability at out vets office. Unfortunately, the dog we dropped off was not the same dog we came home to. When we picked our dog up he seemed lethargic but had just been bathed. VERY shortly after leaving the Kennel we realized something wasn't right with our dog. We rushed him to our vets office. By this time he had a foul smelling bloody mucus draining from his nose, green drainage from his eyes, excessive drooling, difficulty breathing, lethargy, dehydration and was found to have lost 11 lbs. Our vets office informed us that if we aren't able to get him to take an antibiotic orally by tomorrow then he will need to be hospitalized for treatment. We were told that while he was in the custody of Tannenberg Kennels he ate twice the amount of food twice daily that we normally fed him, that he behaved very well and did great. They deny that anything was wrong with our dog. Does the dog in this video look as though nothing is wrong with him? They refuse to acknowledge their negligence and neglect of this poor animal, our baby. How does a dog that eats 2 1/2 cups of food twice daily (an increase from his 1 1/4 cups twice daily) lose 11 lbs???? How does a dog become so acutely ill in less than an hours time???? Easy answer, it doesn't happen that way. They bathed him right before we picked him up so he'd be nice and clean and all of that sickness would be washed off of him and we wouldn't know he was like that while in their custody. Tannenberg Kennels is trying to deny and cover up. Don't let anyone else have to go through what we are going through. The office manager even lied to our vet office stating our dog had been running around playing with other dogs the entire time there. This is a blatant lie because we had specifically requested he not be socialized with other dogs because he doesn't socialize well. We were reassured that all of their dogs are kept separate. HORRIBLE! Have used in past and "thought" it went well. Our Standard growled when we dropped her off, which isn't like her and should have alarmed us. Didn't check on her for the first three days and then they told me she had diarrhea and they put her on chicken and rice. (We already provided the chicken with her dog food). Called the next day and the same thing. They NEVER contacted me or her veterinarian for something to help her. Checked AGAIN and the same thing. My husband picked her up and I was shocked and angry. She lost 10 lbs, smelled like a cesspool and had something in her chest fur as if she had been vomiting and was very weak. When we ran a baby wipe over her BACK, it was brown! She was very weak. I called and the owner wasn't in until Tuesday, so I complained and left a message on her VM. She called back and just kept saying "I promise you she was well cared for". I told her I didn't believe her and wanted a refund. She never said she was sorry or offered anything. I'm sorry for the recommendations I've given them in the past. Whoever leaves the daily notes on the animals is not truthful. Would NEVER take my pet there again! read more

Love this kennel. We have taken our GSD there twice now and have been very satisfied. She has always come back happy and healthy and clean. The place looks and smells very clean and sanitary. The staff is very friendly and they seem to genuinely care. I have nothing negative to say. Highly recommend. read more

I had my 1 year old pup spend 5 nights here, and she loved it. The check in process was extremely simple and quick. Three very nice ladies made both of us feel very comfortable. And when we came to pick her up, they had given her a bath and she was so fluffy and clean! We couldn't have been happier with her first boarding experience.
