Let me start off by saying that is place is beautiful. The aesthetic was gorgeous and based on other reviews I heard I was excited to have breakfast there. This is my personal experience that I decided to share. I did not like the food. The food all looked great but none of it was tasty to me. That's fine, it happens. My biggest issue was with the service because we did not receive any. Our waitress was very friendly however we had to flag her down for every interaction after the initial one. We had to flag her down to place our order even though we told her she could come back after 2 minutes. She never checked on us, not even ONCE. She didn't stop by to see how the food was or to see if we received everything. We had to flag her down for salt and pepper, had to flag her for the bill. We had piles of food leftover and she didn't inquiry about if we enjoyed anything or if we wanted a go to box. I had to quickly ask her because she tried to leave immediately. I did see her stop and interact and assist her other tables. Maybe we were in the forgotten section or maybe she was super swamped. Either way when I go out to eat I intentionally want human interaction and we didn't receive that. I'm disappointed. But once again..my experience might not be yours. read more

Came here from brunch. I had the breakfast flatbread and a tea cocktail. Service was great and quick. Hightops were fine to sit on. The flatbread was delicious and definitely shareable. What makes this places great is you can order their tea cocktails and you will get at least 5 cups out of it. It comes out in an actual teapot. So cute. It had a kick and it was refreshing. Stopped by Tanner Smith's for brunch, and it was such a great experience! Even without a reservation, I was seated pretty quickly, which was a nice surprise since the place was packed. I went for the cast iron Huevos Rancheros, and it did not disappoint--so much flavor and just the right amount of spice. I also tried the soufflé pancakes (super light and fluffy) and the hot honey chicken and waffles, which were a perfect mix of sweet and spicy. My girlfriend and I came in for dinner prior to catching a show. The staff was friendly, and very efficient. We both ended up ordering the Shepherd's Pie, and it was amazing! There was so much flavor from the pie that neither of us used the gravy that was served with the pie. My only issue with the pub is that the restrooms are in the basement. While not the worst restroom location, I am temporarily disabled and having trouble with stairs, it was a bad location for me. read more

We were out here for a business trip, so wanted something relatively close to the hotel, casual, and good food. Tanner Smiths satisfied all those things. I had this big cheeseburger that was quite tasty, and a whisky drink. The burger was cooked very well and melted on my tongue. I appreciate the short walk from the hotel, and the ease of location. Prices are typical NYC prices, and food is typical bar food. Service was overall fine with no complaints, but also no rave reviews. Will I return next time I'm in NY? Possibly. He handed me a smoking bottle and told me to wait... in a world of instant gratification, I found this ask a bit challenging. But I waited, because, someone told me "patience is a virtue". So I waited. About 5 minutes later once the smoke had settled, he came back to me and said "the time has come... for you to pour it into the glass". After I poured the contents of the bottle into a glass, the smell of smoked wood filled the air. It smelled like fall and burning wood. This is how I discovered Tanner Smiths HAD an exclusive downstairs bar area - and overall I'm definitely a fan. The space has a speakeasy-esque feel to the lighting, the bar staff and the atmosphere in general. I've no clue if the menu is separate but they had good options for both food and drink. I ordered their Brooklyn Cider and accompanied it with their Pimento Cheese Dip - which comes in a cocktail glass. Both were great. Neither were cheap. My friends were smart enough to look through the whole menu carefully, and stumbled on this neat $30 Tea Pot that comes with enough alcohol to fill about 3 cocktail glasses (with ice, anyways). Definitely a better bang for your buck, and also quite tasty. Service was OK - not rude or anything, just took a bit to serve us / check in on when we were ready for food and drink. The quality of everything they serve you is quite solid - but you definitely pay for it. I dropped $50 for 2 ciders and some cheese nibbles, plus tip. Overall, they have a pretty creative food and cocktail menu. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. It was way better than I expected. The chicken sandwich was topped with guacamole, hummus, pickles, and a fantastic red pepper aioli. It was tasty, but it fell apart quickly. Visited this establishment around 11pm on a Friday night and was able to get a bar seat almost immediately. For a table, we'd have to go upstairs to talk to the host to put our names on the list. Bartender was very friendly giving us our menu almost immediately. Drinks were great and ambiance was even better. Crowd wasn't rowdy and definitely more to themselves unlike your neighborhood bar. It's perfect for that drink spot after your date's gone well and you're looking to continue the night :) Drinks were reasonably priced and not watered down. Cocktails presented in aesthetically pleasing drinkwares and bartenders know what they're doing. They really want to make sure you enjoy your drink and will check in to see if you're ok with what you ordered. Definitely rare in most NYC bars! I visited on a Thursday night and was pleasantly surprised at being sat immediately. I tried a few appetizers: the everything pretzel, the oxtail arancini, and the Thai deviled eggs. This in itself was a LOT of food, enough that much was left over. The jerk oxtail arancini, which contained risotto, braised oxtail, gruyere, and parmesan, was creamy, meaty, and packed a bite. The Anaheim pepper relish and cherry pepper aioli were great accompaniments. The pretzels (there were three large sticks) were crispy and baked perfectly, and served alongside IPA cheese sauce and spicy mustard. The Thai deviled eggs were served in a creative fashion, but they were not my thing at all. As a southern girl, these deviled eggs tasted, for lack of a better word, musty. Other small plates include: buffalo chicken spring rolls, guac and salsa, hummus, wagyu beef skewers, wings, oysters, cheese and meat plates, and more. For my entree I ordered the forest mushroom dip, served with hazelnut butter, pickled bunches, Comte cheese, pea shoots, and mushroom broth for the dip. It wasn't bad, but I don't think the flavors were capitalized on. Maybe I was just overloaded from the small plates and couldn't adequately tell. Other large plates: lots of burgers and wraps (the burgers looked great, lots of people eating those around me), flatbreads and pizzettes, salads, and a sexy looking truffle Mac n cheese. They also have shrimp tacos and Thai cauliflower tacos. The star at Tanner Smith's is the cocktails. It is actually named the "house of cocktails." I had: Blind tiger: dark rum, made with velvet falernum, mango, lime, and angostura bitters. Mezcal inferno: campante mezcal, dry curaçao, pineapple, hibiscus agave, lime. Not your baby: empress gin, rhubarb liquor, lemongrass, yuzu. Army & Navy: Dorothy Parker gin, lemon, orgeat, and angostura. Maggie's May: vodka, elderflower, cucumber, lime, and black pepper. All of the drinks are creative, complex, light, easy to drink. They also have several whiskey, scotch, and rum drinks. Service was awesome. My server was attentive, and when he went on break, the server covering him made sure I was taken care of. I don't go to midtown often, but if I ever end up over there again, would definitely head over here for cocktails and a burger or some apps. read more

We were in the mood for burgers and stumbled upon this place on Yelp. We did not have a reservation and got sat in 10 minutes. What caught our eye was the ambiance. It looked like a great looking spot. Upon arriving there are two rooms in the main area. The bar and then a dining room in the back. We are glad we got sat in the back by the dining room because the music was not as loud and there weren't people standing. Fun fact there was also a hidden bar downstairs by the bathrooms. The burger was 10/10 and highly recommended. The Caesar wrap tasted a little too fishy for my liking 6/10. The server was great, just wish he had communicated he left and someone took over for him. The truffle fries and pancakes were yummy, 2 of us got avocado toast and they finished those, one of us got a Caesar wrap with chicken and didn't really seem to enjoy it/she had a lot left over. I liked that the pancakes weren't overly sweet, I think they'd be even better with chocolate chips or banana. It was busy inside but not so loud that we couldn't converse easily. My sister ordered the buffalo chicken wontons and said they were delicious. My other sister and I ordered the Caesar wrap with shrimp and although it wasn't bad, actually the dressing was really good, I wish I would've ordered something else. This spot is extremely loud but a great vibe. You can tell many people are probably here grabbing a drink and maybe a small bite after work.
