Different dining experience than I'm used to. The place is absolutely gorgeous and with so much history. Nice cool vibe, that's perfect for a date. The drinks that I had were not great, but not horrible either. Our waiter suggested the flatbread and the braised short rib for us and she was not wrong. My friend and I stopped at The Dawson for dinner before a show on a Wednesday evening. The place was pretty hopping but we found an open spot at the bar right when we walked in. The bartender acknowledged us right away and was very kind and attentive the entire time we were there. We ordered drinks - a gin 45 and a mango margarita. Both were delicious that we just had to order another round later in the meal. We began with the whipped ricotta crostini appetizer. It was delicious! There were four pieces and each crostini was piled high with whipped ricotta and strawberries. It was a delicious way to begin our meal. I ordered the Pear N' Goat Cheese flatbread and my friend ordered The Dawson salad. I absolutely loved the flatbread. It was delicious and sweet. Almost like eating dessert as your meal, which is something totally up my alley. It was also the perfect amount of food, I ate every last bite. My friend said her salad was very good as well. After we finished our second round we had to head out to the show. While eating at the bar, it did get a bit loud, and it actually felt kind of warm - almost a little humid, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I hate being hot, haha. Overall, the food was excellent at The Dawson and so was the service. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place to eat in that area. read more

Like many neighborhood bars, The Dawson offers a surprising amount of beautiful holiday decorations in a cozy, dim atmosphere. That's right, take it from this NYC local: Skip the touristy landmarks, markets, parks, etc. and head to any neighborhood bar, and you'll find more Christmas decorations and holiday cheer than any of those sites. Bonus: No tourists. Anyway, we enjoyed wiling the night away with wine and food. My Shepherd's Pie was surprisingly hearty and delicious, perfectly baked and crispy where it needed to be. This is one of those super popular after-work spots, and that's definitely been the reason I've been here multiple times. Overall, it's really just a pub with good drinks and nice snackables. I haven't ever gotten actual dinner food here, but their wings are excellent, and their apps overall are really easy to share, which is super helpful when around a large group of people. For the drinks, tbh I don't remember what I got, but I remember being satisfied with it. There's definitely better bars if you're looking for masterpiece cocktails and pro-mixologists, but they've got a solid selection of beverages, from cocktails to beers to non-alcoholic options, that do well to cater to a larger group of people. While I wouldn't come here on the regular, it's certainly a great spot for a work event. read more

With so many options in NYC, my husband I sometimes find it overwhelming to choose a restaurant to dine at. Upon entering The Dawson we found it to be beautifully decorated. However, our experience with the food was very underwhelming. We ordered the artichoke and spinach dip, which was kind of bland. Then for dinner, my husband ordered the House burger, which he ordered, medium to well done and it came out like a hockey puck. I myself, ordered the Dawson burger, which wasn't very flavorful. Our waitress seemed as though she was more interested in tending to the other tables around us with more people. We ordered a second round of drinks, which we never saw. And in general we were thoroughly disappointed. With tip our dinner came to $89 and it was not worth the money. We will do more research next time we are in the city to find another place to dine. read more

We decided to stop by The Dawson for lunch today and the food was great! We had a reservation so the check-in was smooth and we sat in a nice area on the first floor. Personally, I got the classic margherita flatbread, which was okay (but a bit in the saltier end). The other food options and drink came out great as well. A perfect spot to get some great food and well crafted drinks...especially if you're from outta town! From the moment we stepped in the vibe was lively and perfect. Our reservation was confirmed and immediately escorted to our table. The service was also a complete delight! Our server made some interesting recommendations but we felt the Brick Chicken and sliders would be enough (recommended, see pics). I started off with a traditional Old Fashion drink that was (as before mentioned) well crafted. An absolute work of art! The Brick Chicken was like something Ive never had before. Well seasoned and seared bird over some veggies was a real treat! The sliders tho being a small plate option was a pretty good whole meal on its own (great for you "Im not that hungry type of ppl.). Bottom Line: A quaint spot with a lovely ambiance for drinks and dinner. My husband and I went to The Dawson for an early dinner before a show and we loved it. I immediately noticed the cozy atmosphere that was thoughtfully decorated. After settling in to our table we enjoyed various appetizers and small plates including a soft pretzel, two different flat breads and Balsamic and Bacon Brussel Sprouts. I came here solo around 5 pm on a Tuesday. Place was hopping but I was able to find a bar spot in the corner. Bartenders were really good, especially for the amount of people ordering drinks. Ambiance was that of an upscale American bar, which I love but I will say it was pretty loud. Yes I know it's a bar but it seemed to be a little over the top. Their food is great. We had the cauliflower app, wings, burgers and flatbread. The quality of the meat was exceptional. I love a burger when it tastes like steak. Good service too. My only problem was being charged $65 for a Bogle rose. We did not order a $10 bottle of cheap crappy rose but that's what we were served. When I complained I said we'd pay for it but give us a discount. They would not. So buyer be aware about their wine pricing and service. I really like how quickly they got us in despite the obvious state of establishment fullness (they made space for us) and I (and my wife) really enjoyed the food. Why four stars? It's the little things. The appetizer was fantastic and came with these excellent sauces. Yet, both my wife's entree and mine had no sauces or "extras" despite the higher price tag for the main course. They both tasted excellently, yet my wife's flatbread needed a drizzle of... something, and my chicken sandwich came with -- wait for it -- ketchup! Really??? Thank the lord I chose to keep the left over sauces we got from our spring rolls (which were freaking fabulous) and used THOSE to add that... "somethin' somethin'" that was missing in our entrees. The young lady that attended us was great and so was the hostess. The waitress also had a fantabulous accent (killer sound). Plus, with a ready smile, she really helped make the night great!
