King Salmon as advertised on Tanners website

November 9, 2025 It has taken me some time to write this review of Tanner's Alaskan Seafood. I ordered Salmon Roe, Alaskan Venison Sausage, Alaskan Smoked Halibut, Smoked Jalapeno Salmon Spread, Alaskan Smoked King Salmon Traditional Flavor, King Salmon Bellies, and Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Premium Portions. I will describe the products in the order we tried them. We tried the first five items the first week we received the package. The last two we tried yesterday and today. After trying the first five, I lost interest in trying more but yesterday I thought I would try brining the roe. 1. Smoked Halibut. Awful. They overly brined the halibut and did not smoke the fish. I took one bit and spit it out. No smoke flavor. It was mushy and salty beyond belief. Opened another package same problem. All went in the trash. 2. Smoked King Salmon. Very little smoked flavor or salmon flavor. There are several things that can cause that. 3. Smoked salmon spread. Impossible to tell exactly what it was. Did not taste like salmon and had just the slightest smoke flavor. Went in the trash. 4. Sockeye Portions. Average quality. We fried those okay. 5. Venison sausage. Tasted like the cheap sausage you can find in any convenience store or truck stop. It was impossible to tell what it was by taste. Went in the trash. 6. Salmon roe. Opened the package and the eggs were very small and all were very mushy. I brined the roe but it was impossible to remove the eggs from the skein (the membrane that holds the eggs) because it was all mush. Went in the trash. I still have one bag of roe left. 7. King Salmon Bellies. All bellies had fins attached. It is a common and accepted practice to remove the fin when the fish is filleted. There was a total of 9 pieces in the last package. The pieces I received were small. Below is a picture of pieces in the last package we had left which had not been fried. I put a tape beside the pieces to show how much meat we actually received. You can fry the bellies and remove the fin easier after they are fried. They tasted great. My point with the salmon bellies is that what I received is nothing as Tanner advertises in their picture below of salmon bellies (on their website). I spent around $500 for the product. I lived in Alaska for 18 years. I went all over the state fishing and many times fished various places on the Kenai Peninsula, which is where Tanner Seafood is located. I had a 206 on floats used it a great deal fishing in the 12 years I owned it. I bought seafood from other business in Alaska. I know what good quality seafood is and this from Tanners was the worst I have experienced from any Seafood business in Alaska. I suppose the risk of buying online and receiving what I received is more common these days because what recourse does anyone have except write a review; especially when you live 2000 miles from the seller. Notice on their website, they have positive reviews but go Yelp and you will read many more negative reviews.

I continue to try to post an honest review on Tannersfish.com, but it keeps getting deleted. Seems they are only keeping 5-star reviews on that web site. I ordered whole King Salmon fillets from Tanners, to be shipped to my home. The fillets were plenty big and thick, but the salmon tasted bland, not like fresh King Salmon that I have cooked my entire life. The flesh was very lean, and did not contain the lines of marbled fat shown in the picture on their web site (and like all other quality King Salmon I have purchased from other sources). The fillets I received were just big, lean Salmon, with little fat and almost no taste. If I'm going to spend this much, I'd rather buy the highly marbled King Salmon that always cooks up moist and full of flavor.

Fantastic! Ordered crab, halibut and king collars last time, all were excellent! Received my order this week, the tuna and king collars did not disappoint.

I am not one to post negative reviews but I felt inclined to. Ordered 10lbs of King crabs back in November to arrive 2 days prior to Xmas. Also purchased the weather delay just in case for extra.. The shipment was overnighted on the 12/22 to arrive on the 23rd. By the 24th FedEx showed the package was still sitting in a storage location in my town. I emailed Tanner and was assured that the packages have enough dry ice that they are good for 3 days. The shipment did not arrived until noon on 12/26th with all the dry ice melted as a I expected for sitting at the FedEx location for over 3 days. I reached out to Tanner and explained the situation and told them I even purchased the weather/shipping delay insurance just in case and basically didn't hear anything back from them. Wont be ordering again from them. I can understand this is a difficult year and with Covid vaccine distributions can potentially delay shipping items. However, to ignore my concerns and leave me with potentially spoiled food item even after I purchased the weather/shipping delay insurance is very unprofessional and doesn't deserve my money in the future. read more

We had a problem with the order received. I called twice and left a message both times, expecting a return call....Never heard back from them after 2 weeks. I understand this is a small "Family" run operation, but if the customer has an issue, it should be addressed, not ignored. read more

Tanner's ALWAYS does a great job handling my fresh catch. It is processed the way I want it and ready to pick up when it's time to head home. I have used Tanner's for 5+ years now and never had a problem. Also, try their smoked fish and various other products! We had been on a couple of charters and was getting our fish processed through them. Then we had gone Salmon fishing in Homer and brought back up 7 King Salmon's. We drove pass Tanner's Fish Processing and thought we would give them a try. My husband went in and was quoted a price of .85 cents per pound to package and freeze the fish. He had roughly cleaned the fish but just handed it over to them to process. When we returned to pick up our fish not only did they increase the quoted amount (forgot the vacuum packing was extra) but the fish didn't even look like the rinsed it off before packing and freezing the fish. So they basically sealed and froze the blood along with the fish. I know the fish will still taste good but I will never go here again. The other processors gave us wonderfully clean and cut fish for less then what these people charged. Oh and we go fishing in Alaska every 2 years for the last 15 years. read more

I have ordered the frozen razor clams several times. They always arrive in perfect condition, still frozen, even though they come all the way from Alaska to hot Southern CA, overnight. Tanner's includes free shipping from Alaska. That puts them way ahead of most other fish markets who charge $45. or more just for shipping. They have lots of selection so you are sure to find something you love. Jason, the owner, has been very helpful, friendly and accommodating. The fish processing itself is fine, good quality. But you'll spend the whole time you're not fishing waiting for someone to help you. Everyone who works there has zero sense of urgency or prioritization of work. There is no method to the madness. Nobody works the front desk, and nobody seems to bother with waiting customers in line. You'll have to go out of your way to get help in receiving your fish. read more

Tanner's has done an excellent job again! This time we were not able to get down to the Kenai to fish (and have Tanner's pack and ship our catch) so we had ~30lbs of Tanner's Sockeye Salmon shipped and it was every bit as good/fresh as if we had caught it ourselves. read more

This will be our third year using Tanner's Fresh Fish Processing. We're very impressed by the quality of all of the fish. We've tried cod, Alaskan rockfish and halibut in addition to salmon. Living in Connecticut (where farm-raised "Atlantic salmon" is everywhere), we especially love being able to get wild-caught Alaskan salmon right from the source. We've also purchased or made holiday gift baskets with their wonderful assortment of Alaskan treats: smoked salmon, jarred salmon, salmon jerky and reindeer sausage. My husband snacks on flavored salmon jerky, as a healthy alternative to beef jerky. To round it off, Tanner's customer service has been outstanding, with phone calls or emails to advise when our shipment is arriving, and solid follow-up to see that everything went well! You'll not be disappointed by them! read more

Missing fish! We dropped off 14 reds and 3 silver salmon (61.5 lbs) for overnight processing at Tanner's Fish & Kasilof Seafoods in Soldotna because we were flying out of Anchorage the next day. They told us they would mark the silver fillets. The next morning they took a long time searching for our fish and when they supposedly found our fish there were only red fillets, no silvers! The clerk searched for the silvers for awhile, came back and said that he couldn't find them but he had talked to his manager who said that we had gotten the correct poundage for the amount we had brought in but was willing to trade us some small silver fillets in exchange for some of our red fillets. By this time we were under time constraint to catch our flight so we refused and left. The premise of a seafood processor should be that you trust them to give back the same fish you caught and brought in for processing, not offered someone else's fish! We will never again use Tanner's Fish & Kasilof Seafoods! Beware! read more

i ordered smoked salmon. the website picture has something extremely different from what they send me. all there reviews are lies. their customer service do not want to hear about someone name betty or becky said they have lots if satisfied customer. so my 200+ dollars don't count if i am not satisfied. one name brad said i must stop talking and complaining. i called again another one hang up do not want to hear about it. i will post picture of what they send and the website has all midsection of the salmon, expectation is that i will receive it mix not all 2 and three ounces tail ends with skin and scale so when you take skin off to get the scale off you have one ounces pieces of sraps. read more

We get fish from Tanner's every year. It arrives next day, all the way to New Hampshire, always in perfect condition. I fished commercial salmon for five seasons in Alaska, so my standards are high for good fish. Fish shipped from Tanner's arrives in great shape. You can't get anything better. read more

I recently ordered from Tanner's for the first time, in the past I ordered from a place in Anchorage. I was concerned when part of my order was not in the box, I sent an email and called their store. The person I spoke with at the store was so kind, she did check and sure enough the weight of my box showed that there was an item missing. She told me that she would send it out that morning and I would have it the next day, which I did! Shortly after I spoke with someone from the store I received a call about my email!. The service I received from Tanner's every time was great. Last time, after halibut trip, time was short to get the fish cut to size, packaged, frozen, etc. Picked it up after eight hours, was flash frozen, put our cooler, made it to Anchorage then on to Reno. Fish still frozen when got home. Very friendly too. read more

Not only that, the cost of checked baggage has gone through the roof! After being referred to Paul, I gave him a ring, and he insured me he had a good solution. I had hear good things about him and his company, so I went for it! We came into Homer spit marina in the 70ft. Venturess, with 1600 # of Halibut, Ling cod, and rock fish. Paul had 3 trucks and 8 guys waiting. They took our fish 20min up the road and the next day it was professionally bagged in 5mil bags, 1#ea. perfect sized, separated and ready to ship. Now, we did not want to check it as I said before. Paul had it delivered to Alaska Air Cargo 2 days after we got back to the LA area. He arrange all of the details, it was hassle free! We got a tracking #, and the flight arrived at LAX, we drove one of our trucks to Alaska Cargo, picked it up, and we we amazed at how easy it was! In 2010, you can bet we will be using Paul and Anchor Point Seafood to take the hassle out of our annual long range Alaska fishing Adventure! Don't forget to ask him about the cookies... yummmm!! My main complaint was that the piece of fish was incredibly small. Very cheap. I guess had I asked for the fish to be fried, which is the usual the increased fat content might have made me less hungry after eating the sandwich. Shame on the owner. Give a nice piece of fish for $20. Avoid this place.

I've been with them and bought over $10,000 with no complaints. I order crab in all forms, scallops (the best ever) even fish and spreads, The best stuff I ever tasted. I retired in 2021 simply because people will cheat, embellish, lie and sue regardless of being right or wrong. Any nasty reviews are people impossible to satisfy. Betty Jean bend's into a pretzel to satisfy me, that means their credible. She cant say it but I can. If you complain over goods or service you do it with total disregard for people trying to feed their family by making embellished stories. I had an issue, she ate thousands of dollars for me. Their professional, hard working honest people. I know how hard they work because I was once a fish wholesaler, a filet man and trust me its one of the hardest businesses, its like trimming money the wrong cut means a dollar becomes a dime. I have never ordered Seafood online before so I looked online and found Tanner's and browsed their web sir and I decided to take a chance and ordered King Crab legs from them. I am so glad that I did because they were so helpful in helping me order and they even started to sent me emails showing and telling me what they have. There was a slight problem with the shipping because of airport closings between Alaska and Cleveland Ohio so the order was shipped a day late. But they informed me by Email what was happening and why. It was well worth the wait. The order arrived and was still frozen and we ate the Crab Legs as soon as we got them. We have ordered a variety of fish quite a few times from Tanner's Fresh Fish. Each time they have arrived solidly frozen in approximately one pound individual packages which I place directly in my freezer. The taste and texture is excellent and there has never been a fishy odor. I love that there is no charge for shipping! It is so convenient to order several pounds of fish and have it delivered a couple of days later to your home. We have split larger orders with friends who are also impressed with the quality. I usually speak to Jason when I place my order, he is like my personal fish expert. He is knowledgeable and willing to accommodate his customers. I placed an order with Tanner's and had it shipped to my Cousin and his family in the lower 48. The order arrived in perfect condition even though it was shipped from Alaska to North Carolina. My cousin said he has never eaten seafood that was that good. As the package contained an assortment of seafood, I get continuous emails from my cousin telling me how great the flavor of each item is and how it tastes like is was just caught that day. The service from Tanner's was outstanding. Although purchasing seafood and shipping it from Alaska is expensive, the quality of the seafood, the ease of ordering and the timely shipping makes it so worth it. Tanner's Fresh Fish is the best fish processing company our family has ever done business with. They are friendly, professional and FAST. We shipped over 150lbs of fresh fish back with these guys when we went fishing up there and we can't say enough good about them. The second best experience of our trip!(First was fishing with Al). Tired of the junk (farm raised) fish I can only find around here, I started searching for alternatives. I ordered from two different Alaska seafood vendors this summer. Both had quality fish. However, I placed a second order with Tanner's based on price and free shipping. So far I have tried their coho and sockeye salmon, halibut, cod and smoked salmon sampler. Everything has been excellent. It takes two days to reach me and always still frozen even this summer's order. You do need to be available for delivery. I wouldn't want to leave it out all day. Tanner's is the real deal. I have been ordering our halibut and salmon from Tanner's for over a year and have never been disappointed. As a matter of fact I have always been thrilled with my purchase. The salmon and halibut are the finest fish we have ever eaten. Both are are always thick, moist, and absolutely delicious. We live in Florida and the fish always arrives completely frozen. My wife actually prefers the salmon tails. Their total operation is first class. First time at ordering seafood online, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of Tanners products. Ordered sockeye salmon and halibut, both were outstanding in quality, freshness and mostly taste. The order came overnight FedEx, plenty of dry ice packaged perfectly in a stytrofoam container with each item flash frozen individually. I would highly recommend Tanner's for all your processing and fresh fish needs. They did a great job packaging our halibut quickly after a fishing trip so we could take it back to Washington. I've also had Tanner's ship fish to Texas and Washington and both times it arrived in perfect condition still frozen. All the fish always taste fresh and we love the reindeer sausage also. read more
