My wife acquired Alpha-Gal, a tick-borne illness that makes you allergic to certain proteins, such as beef and pork, and we've been searching for protein alternatives. Their products are easy to see, and they are thorough in explaining what is in each product package. You can do a one time purchase, but we opted for the 2 month subscription (you can also do a 1 month subscription). Wild Alaskan keeps you well informed about your order once you place it. We ordered on a Monday, and the order arrived that Friday, as promised. Everything in the order was still frozen solid and had adequate dry ice to keep it frozen. All the seafood was individually wrapped, and was very fresh looking. We haven't had a chance to cook anything yet, but I am positive the seafood will taste excellent. I had high hopes for this salmon but unfortunately cancelled my subscription after two deliveries. Both deliveries contained salmon fillets that did not at all maintain the air tight seal and very very quickly were freezer burnt. Both batches I ended up having to throw away multiple fillets. I even tried to still cook the fillets that were not air tight sealed where lots of ice crystals had formed and they tasted terrible. 0 flavor and looked very sketchy. The fish arrived beautifully packaged in the box and we were so pleased. We put some in our indoor fridge and most in our freezer in the garage! The quality is excellent compared to anything from the local grocery store, including larger portion sizes. We tried Teriyaki salmon (yum!) and had some Coho salmon. On my second box and still just as happy as ever to get fresh, reasonably priced seafood that I feel better putting in my body! The salmon has had literally NO smell whatsoever. Others like the sablefish have had an ever-so-minor yet expected "ocean scent". Speaking of sablefish (aka black cod), I used my first "add in" order last night to do the famous Nobu miso-glazed black cod (copycat) recipe that I dare say was equally as good if not better than Nobu's for less than $18 total (including the ingredients that I have a lot leftover to use later!) compared to their $46 "one-and-done" smaller serving size! It was soooo... darned... good! Will definitely become a standard "add in" in the future. Also did some panko-breaded fried cod which was incredible. Tried all three salmons... king... sockeye... coho. Not sure I had a favorite. They were all good. Both boxes I received arrived with rock-solid pieces of fish with the dry ice fully intact / functioning. Depending on the box and offer you get, 6oz pieces of fish can average around $10+ to $12+ a piece with free shipping. Try getting the same quality of fish even close to that at a decent seafood restaurant or market. The few interactions I've had with their customer service have been fast and efficient. If I had one "complaint" it's that sometimes the pieces of the same type of fish are very different in size and thickness which makes it difficult to cook together without over- or under-cooking one piece.
